Good Italian food has finally come to the South! Located in Hattiesburg, MS, Tabella blew me away. I had the Pasta Roberto which had Italian sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and tomato cream sauce over pasta. It was so good! Not really expecting much from such a small town, I was pleasantly surprised upon dining here. It's locally owned by a group of chefs so they know what they are doing. Ditch your chain Olive Garden, and go to Tabella. Tabella doesn't take reservations so you need to get there early for dinner or otherwise you will end up waiting. If you do wait, it's worth it! They have a great wine selection which covers their entire wall. We had a nice Polka Dot Riesling with our dinner. Can't wait to eat here again when I make a visit to Hattiesburg! They must have been off tonight. It was crowded, but the Friday night routine should be understood for an established restaurant. I ordered a big house salmon salad, as did my friend. What we got were two big house salmon Caesar salads. Being that it took 40+ minutes for the food to arrive, I went ahead and started eating. My friend flagged down another server to send hers back. Our server did not seem very concerned with the mixup when I brought this to her attention. They took the salad off my friends ticket, but not mine. My ticket said big house caesar salmon, so it was her error and not the kitchens. The quality of the food was terrific, only the service was terrible. The manager came by and asked if he could take our plates, but did not ask about our experience. read more

After eating at Crescent for dinner we stopped in for dessert. We got our usual cappuccino and double espresso and I piece of tiramisu. Our coffees were very well made and the tiramisu was outstanding! Our favorite part of the whole experience was chatting with the manager, Tristan. He was a real pleasure. I've been to Tabella two times previously and have been fairly happy with my experience. Considering the lack of Italian food in this city, I try not to be too critical of their food. Being a New Orleanian, I'm used to true Sicilian Italian mom and pop food, so excuse me for my overly critical review. I'm truly trying to rate them fairly. Being a spaghetti aficionado, I decided to try their bolognese as well as ordered a glass of their Pinot Grigio. It was probably the worst PG I've ever drank but I guess that's what I get for ordering house PG. They brought out their house bread which I've had before and usually it's warm and soft. This time it was clearly stale and terribly dry to the point of dipping it in the oil didn't really help any. That's pretty sad. My spaghetti bolognese came out and the presentation was pretty depressing. It didn't look fresh and definitely didn't taste fresh. The meat in the sauce was really hard and tasted gritty. The sauce overly peppery. I could have done better using a bottle of Ragu and ground meat honestly (and I don't like Ragu). I decided since I didn't eat much of my spaghetti to try their tiramisu. This is where the review was boosted to three stars. Their tiramisu is pretty damn good. I like the flavor of espresso coming clear through it, so if you don't like a strong espresso tiramisu then this may not be the dessert for you. The service was great throughout. So that also contributed to the reviewing being three stars otherwise it probably would have been two. read more

I have eaten here twice, today my third. I'm a little upset because the waitress seems like I'm bothering her. The bread is normally the highlight of my meal; however she brought 4 small pieces of COLD bread out. I ask would you happen to have some warm bread she replied I could put it in the microwave, I smirked. Then I rephrased the question asking for fresh bread. She said NO! I started to get an attitude I'm working on me so I kept quiet. I then ordered my entree, now we are waiting for its arrival. I ordered the veggie lasagna and aside from it being a relatively small portion for the price, it was definitely made from subpar frozen ingredients that were tough while the pasta was overdone. Fantastic Italian spot in Hattiesburg. So, as an Italian, Long Island native, I have high expectations for good Italian food and let me tell you, Tabella did not disappoint. I started out with limoncello mojito and it was incredibly refreshing. Following, my friend and I enjoyed the white bean hummus appetizer and did not leave anything on the plate. For my entree I had the chicken piccata which was very good. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and "The Hog" is right near by so you can grab a few cocktails afterward! read more

We heard about Tabella's and decided to try it. After looking at the three and a half star rating, we were kind of skeptical. There was absolutely nothing negative about our experience. Our waitress, Mariya was the best we have had in a long, long time. I ordered the Red Snapper special on a bed of Aglio Olio and Broccoli. My wife had Fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken. From the Bread to the end of the meal, everything was perfect. The Red Snapper was wonderful. My wife's Alfredo sauce was the best she has ever had. Stopped in for lunch with two co-workers and had a great lunch. They had the Chicken Caprese and I had Meatballs with Marinara and it was all delicious. Everything was delicious. We had a group of 10 and they do not take reservations so we arrived at 6:30 on a Thursday. They were quick to accommodate us. We had a variety of appetizers and I highly recommend the calamari. It is lightly fried and so good. Several different entrees were ordered but I had one of the 3 specials which was salmon and shaved brussel sprouts. It was awesome. Had my leftovers for supper tonight. Total win! First visit to this particular StJohn venue and as always, he never disappoints. I had the trifecta which was a small chicken Parmesan, Vail with lemon butter, and fillet with Gorgonzola Treo served over spinach that was drizzled with cream sauce. All three were very good and I liked that lightly cooked spinach and sauce that couldn't begin to eat all of it. Keep in mind these are small portions as there a sampler Dash most men might not find it enough but I could not eat at all. However I did manage to make room for the lemon crapes on the dessert menu and oh my goodness they are fabulous. Crêpes filled with a warm lemon cheesecake like Filling with plenty of bright lemon flavor. To make it even more fabulous the finished Craig was sprinkled with some sugar crystals and then they were likely caramelized to make them crunchy. We tried several desserts and everyone agreed this was the winner. read more

I'm gonna start out by saying they're totally trying to lure the chain-restaurant-loving locals away from Olive Garden...but they're doing it by trying to be a local version of the Olive Garden. That said...even mediocre Italian food is pretty damn good...and at least they understand their target market...BUT: The servers carry around this big chalkboard with all the "specials" on it and THOROUGHLY explain each one to you...which is cool, it makes you feel special and all, but only one of the items on the board wasn't on the regular menu...and the menu already has detailed descriptions. If it's on the regular menu, to me it's not a special. So basically they could have just explained that one actual special to me and not wasted my time reading the menu for me. Again, this is Hattiesburg, so I totally see why they do that (people will not read that shit for themselves) but I'm apparently not their target audience. Next...the two page (front and back...so four pages) menu was inexplicably on two separate menus (instead of doing it book-style) which was mad awkward. Not a big deal, but one of those "what the hell!?" things. ...and then the waiter disappeared when it was check-time and we had to get someone to go find him. It was good and all...and I hate chain restaurants so I wanna support them...but this was just a chain restaurant without the chain. They're doing a decent job of catering to their target market, but if I'd have gone to Olive Garden at least I would have gotten free salad...they had bread and oil but it wasn't very good. The decor was pretty good though...the support beams were cleverly disguised as stacks of boxes and I fell in love with the poster of the buxom Italian girl suggestively long-pouring olive oil on a salad. I feel like I should give them 3 stars...but all the negatives would be really easy to remedy, so I'm not letting them off easy just because they're in the 'burg. read more

The family was passing through Hattiesburg tonight and wanted Italian. We found Tabella and came in. Our food was great, and creative (fried banana peppers with a horseradish dipping sauce was a highlight), and we all really enjoyed it. However, an even better highlight was our server, Kory. He was professional, funny, and really added to our fun! Although we don't come through often, we will make sure to be back (and we hope Kory is here as well!). Big recommendation! read more

I have lived here for 7 years and never took a chance on this restaurant until yesterday. WOW! The lasagna was the best ever. Loved their red sauce on it. The Caesar salad was wonderful too! I was looking for an authentic Italian restaurant, well this is NOT it. We went there for lunch today. It was the waiter's first day. He was very pleasant and that is the only reason for the two star rating. I asked him what an item on the menu was and he said he did not know and left to find out. I ordered the meatball marinara with garlic green beans and roasted squash. I asked the waiter if the meatball came with pasta and he said, "Yes". It did not. The entrees must have been warmed in the microwave as my husband's lasagna was barely warm in the middle as was my meatball. Spent the weekend on Mississippi Gulf Coast and ate at one of the Best restaurants in Miss. the food there did not compare to the Eggplant Parmesan I had at Tarbella's in Hattiesburg. The eggplant was perfect, along with the red sauce and spaghetti. Great meal and service at any price. Recommend highly. My girlfriend and I have been to Tabella a few times and the experience has typically been decent to good. Well our visit today was the worst restaurant experience I've had in quite some time. We ordered within 5 minutes of getting there and ended up waiting about an hour before we even got our food. Our server was amazing through the process, but the manager didn't even acknowledge us because he was too busy talking to a buddy at the bar for 30 minutes. We had a great experience here, and the food was fairly good. Since there are only 2 Italian restaurants (here and Olive Garden) in H'burg. The chicken parmesan was alright but not great. Great family meal. Good atmosphere. Great menu. My husband and I spontaneously ordered the same glass of wine, and he waitress offered a bottle stating we could bring home whatever was left. Great deal! Good is staple Italian. I got the shrimp tabella, and while it was good, it was nothing to write home about. My husband got the steak toretta, which was very good, fried artichokes were a great addition to the dish. All in all, we would probably eat here again. We got a kids cheese pizza for my son - it was the size of a regular pizza! Plenty for his little tummy and bring back for later. read more
