Tabella, what are you doing?? Stick to what you know!! Today after church we let our 4 year old decide where she wanted to eat. She chose the "Apple". Since she started talking, she thinks the tomato is an apple outside. So, we obliged and went it. It's been a few months since we've been here and we first noticed new items on the menu. We decided to try these out. My wife wanted to try the Italian Guacamole. As soon as the waitress brought the guac to the table the image of it was extremely off-putting. Only thing worst than the image of it, was the taste. Basil, does not belong with guacamole...if it does, then it doesn't at Tabella. We looked at the burgers and thought...burgers at tabella?? i'm sure it's good. We've had the branch burger before so we assumed that it would be just as good as Branch. MAJOR disappointment. We both ordered it medium. Medium means there will be pink and juicy. My wife couldn't cut through the burger due to it being burned. Mine was the same way. The burger was extremely overcooked and dry. The management was extremely nice about the issue and made a concession. This is the only reason it received two stars. We aren't sure if we will be back, but want to make sure Tabella knows to KEEP TO WHAT YOU KNOW! Today was the most disappointed we've ever been with Tabella and any RSJ establishments. read more

This place is one of our local favorites. Fun atmosphere, great food, attentive staff. Ordered takeout tonight from an extremely pleasant hostess who made sure I knew all my options and exactly what to expect in these weird times. While I was disappointed that tiramisu isn't part of their limited menu, our meal was ready when I got there, looked and tasted great. This was my second trip to Tabella and my first review. My friend Thomas had the Toasted Ravioli, Chicken Parmesan and a Chocolate Souffle. I had Fried Mozzarella (with Horseradish Cream sauce instead of Marinara), Chicken Piccata and a Chocolate Souffle. The Toasted Ravioli was a little on the soft side but otherwise very nice. The Fried Mozzarella was soft also but the Horseradish Cream sauce was a great ( if counter intuitive) substitution. The Chicken Parmesan continued the evening trend of softer than expected fried foods. It was accompanied by an good Fettuccine Alfredo. Chicken Piccada was nice however my side of Spaghetti Marinara tasted like a good canned pasta sauce. Our Souffles seemed like warm brownies with ice cream served in ramekins. To be fair it was the first souffle for both of us and we may have been been expecting too much. The price was not bad for the amount of food we ordered ( with wine) and the server was nice. The fried foods were the real disappointment and it's possible that we just went on a bad night. I love this place. The big house salad is delicious. Fresh lettuce, tomato that's been seasoned, parmesan off the block, grilled chicken. When I lived in Hattiesburg, I used to get this thing 4 days a week, I kid you not. The to go is super easy and you can just wait in your car. The bread they give you at the beginning tastes great dipped in marinara. Really, most everything is good here. The mozzarella sticks, chicken parmesan, and egg plant is good too. This is our first time here. I have to say we will be coming back. Just walking in the wonderful smells coming from the dining room and kitchen were awesome. I had the bolognese with gluten free pasta, it was very tasty. My husband had pasta with vodka sauce, he said it was very good and my father-in-law had the beef lasagna, he said it was very good, had lots of meat and cheese. Went in with family for dinner and ordered calimari appetizer (small for 4 people, good for 1 person) and ordered the kids pizza, shrimp and angel hair, shrimp and chicken fettuccine alfredo, and a margherita pizza. Everything was good. The only thing that was a turn off was the dough used for the pizzas. For all the pizzas being thin crust, I expected them to be crispy, but it was a soft, uncooked middle bread. Like the pizzas are premade pita or tortilla style, doesn't taste like fresh dough, taste like that make your own pizza crust you buy at the store, that's already bread, not Digorno, some other knock off brand. The rest of the food was awesome. Awesome service. Delicious pasta. Good calimari. Huge portion. Just that pizza dough. If I hadn't tried it I'd of gave it 5 stars. read more

I went to Tabella's when it first opened and was underwhelmed with the food. I recently decided to try it again, and the result was the same, underwhelmed. Two biggest issues that I have with Tabella's Italian specialties - meatballs and spaghetti, chicken parmesan, and lasagna - is the tomato sauce. 1) It tastes like its right out of a can. My Sicilian Grandmother and my Dad cooked their sauces for hours. Rightly or wrongly, that's my standard. If this sauce sees more than five minutes over a flame, I'm surprised. 2) The servings are really stingy. They mix a bit of sauce with the pasta, but only pour about a tablespoon over the pasta. The meal goes dry pretty quickly. Service is average. The food doesn't support the pricing. read more

I love Tabellas! The restaurant has a great staff, chef and a manager who always make my dining experience special. On my last visit I had a great waitress, Mariah who was fantastic and I would definitely ask for her on my next visit. I had the Baked Ziti which was so good, that I am going to try to duplicate it at home. My BF had the Shrimp Scampi with greens and pasta which didn't disappoint either. A disappointing experience. Food was fine but service was deplorable. Wait staff and manager were all dressed like slobs--gave the impression that they didn't care what they looked like and that was a reflection of their service. Food was very slow in coming and was barely warm when served. No offer was made to refill drinks. Request for additional condiments was ignored. Neither manager nor waiter visited table after food was served. Dessert order was taken after everyone had clearly finished their meals but no attempt was made to clear the table. In fact the waiter delivered the desserts (after a too-long wait) and attempted to place the desserts amidst the uncleared dinner service. He had to be asked to clear the table. Again no visit to the table and after finishing the desserts and waiting for the check, I had to get up and walk to the waiter, who was chatting with someone at the bar, and ask for the check. I have eaten at Tabella's several times and have never been disappointed . The food is fresh, well prepared and presented. The wait staff is prompt and very accommodating The selection wines is nice and there are good bottles at a very reasonable prices. Just heard a really disturbing report about these guys failing to make a celiac (severely allergic to gluten) boys meal gluten free (after assuring the table they could.) The boy got violently sick and when a family member went to complain was treated abusively to the point of tears. Things started out great. House salad and roasted tomato soup were very good. Service a little slow but we were not in a hurry. My wife's Fontina Chicken came in a little overcooked and parts had a fishy taste to it. The accompanying Fettuccine Alfredo was also overcooked and had separated. As a corporate pilot I stay in 170 hotels a year and eat in about as many restaurants every year. This was my first time in Hattiesburg and first time at this establishment. Quite simply, the decor was very nice, the atmosphere was equally as nice (we were there early on a Tuesday evening..about 5:30pm), and the service was good. After ordering the server brought out some very tasty bread with a small bowl and plates with olive oil. They didn't have the seasoning in the oil like some places but it was still good, and the bread was absolutely terrific. I ordered the chicken piccata and my copilot ordered a pasta dish called Butcher's Pasta. Chicken Piccata came with some roasted potatoes and green beans. Salad is a la carte, and being I wasn't so hungry I skipped it. The chicken was tasty. It had a mild sauce and wasn't that "lemon-y." It was nice. Chicken was tender and cooked perfectly. The sides were both very good also. Copilot's dish was this bowl of a rather different looking curly pasta, with pancetta and sausage. I wish I tasted it but only have his word to go by. He said it was very good and even when he was full he had to continue to eat it because it tasted so good. I thought this restaurant was great and would love to come back. The value of price to quality of meal can't be beat. My dish only cost $10. Would have been a little more if I had ordered a salad but still a great value. His dish was around $13. I'm sure if I lived here I would be going about twice a month till I tried most of the menu. read more

The ingredients were clean and flavorful, the portions were large, and the wait staff was curteous. Will definetly be going back again. This was highly recommended to me by a good friend of mine so I decided to order carry out on my way home from work. They held my credit card for over 20 minutes without thinking to bring it back to me even if my food wasn't ready. Then both vehicles next to me received service quicker with their orders and I waited for an extra 30 minutes to receive my food after the initial 25-30 minutes they told me it would take to make only to receive cold meals. We've been waiting excitedly for Tabella to open its doors for nearly 5 months now, and managed to get a table this evening on it's first publicly open night. The restaurant itself was very well decorated and had a nice cozy feel to it, even though it was quite open and airy. The service was outstanding. Our table was never cluttered with old dishes or watered down drinks, but we never felt the least bit rushed. Our waiter was great - he was on his toes with everything. The other service staff were friendly and efficient. We started with meatball sliders. DELICIOUS. At about $3.00 apiece, each meatball was a about 2in. big over a bit of mozzarella on a house-made bread. I wish I could remember what I was told it was! I ordered chicken parmesan over fettuccine alfredo and a house salad (apple cider vinaigrette?), and my husband got a shrimp lasagna - we shared a side of sausage and peppers. All of it was perfect. I'm not a fan of sausages or ground meats, but I think I'm in love now. We finished with limoncello cheesecake, which was made in-house. That cheesecake is my new best friend. I can't lie - I'll be sending my husband to bring it home after work at least once a week from now on. To finish, we were also brought two tall shots of limoncello, a thick Italian lemon liqueur. First time visiting Hattiesburg for my sisters graduation. We ate here after the ceremony even though it was VERY packed and very busy the service was great and the food was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Piccata with the green beans and roasted potatoes. The dish was delicious, the potatoes were probably the best part! Perfectly crispy and seasoned well. I look forward to visiting again and coming here. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because it took a little too long to receive our drinks once we ordered them, around 15-20 minutes when we all only ordered water. I'm a BIG FAN of italian and mexican food, and was dead set on "olive garden is the best" (atleast in this area) until I ate Tabella's. They blew Olive Garden out of the water! It all tasted so genuine, and fresh!. I was truly astounded! Although my spinach Florentine was a little on the salty side everything else was beyond my expectations! The Italian food at Tabella's had a true Italian taste to it, in comparison to any other italian restaurant I've visited before. It was such a pleasure feeling "at home" in the restaurant, and as though the people truly wanted us to be there for them to serve. Was given dirty, room temperature water in four small glasses out of a glass water vase or jug. Latter witnessed a waiter or bus boy clearing off a nearby table and poured used water into a main vase then took it to the back. We received excellent service from Daniel. He gave us great suggestions, and helped us decide on the Chicken Parm (for my husband) and Meat Lasagna (for myself). We cleaned our plates as much as we could before busting! The lasagna was huge, so I left stuffed and got to take some home. This place is a solid bet when you're in Hattiesburg. That being said, your best bet is getting one of the specials. I recommend the calzone special (whatever it is). I was sad to see the sandwiches removed from the menu, because I enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan sandwich when I had it. Pesto pasta salad is good - pesto is a touch on the oily side. A pretty nice environment - mostly one large open room with booths and tables. Highlights: -Some of the best desserts you will find in the Hub City. This restaurant is solid, but don't expect anything terribly interesting. I've found that it's best to order pasta or meat entrees, as fish tends to be overcooked. For example, the salmon with lemon and capers routinely comes out dry and MW; although the servers will tell you the kitchen's salmon policy is "medium," I wouldn't believe it. I've had better luck with dishes like chicken picatta, a simple enough yet potentially delicious dish. I'd avoid items that sound like they might be drowning in cream and cheese. Knowing RSJ's restaurants as I do, it seems that the menu developers/exec. team have barely met a dish that they can't imagine adding tons of gloppy cheese or under-developed cream sauces to. I would try desserts, though: they offer a nice and light (how the H did that happen?) limoncello cheesecake, a nicely-executed tiramisu, and a great chocolate coppa. For sides, the green beans are good, as is the aglio olio. There is also a good version of the St. Louis classic, toasted ravioli. If you order judiciously, sticking with simple dishes, you'll be fine. read more
