Just okay! The service and was fine, which would be more understandable if it was more affordable. The food was oddly super salty? and i love salt. I was disappointed in the sisig, it didn't have tons of depth and was bland. The kinilaw though was the true star. so flavorful so delicious, and a little spicy. I would come back just for this. Note it's a BYO restaurant.

Very limited vegetarian / vegan options, and of the two options we really liked one dish. Made a reservation on a Friday night - the space is really small and the bathroom is in an alley, which is fine, but just things to know before going. The music is so loud for seemingly no reason; service is nice but nothing special. We shared the South Philly Laing (broccoli rabe in coconut milk) and the Pritong Tokwa (fried sticky tofu) with garlic rice. The Laing was okay, too bitter and the sauce / seasoning didn't do much to hide the bitterness. We really liked the fried tofu - super crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a spicy sweet sauce. With the garlic, it was delicious! Overall would not come back to Tabachoy, but glad we tried it once.

Really cute lil Filipino inspired byob restaurant! Loved their small but unique menu. Definitely would recommend getting the app sampler (all the dishes were great) and the shrimp curry with garlic rice! The sigsig was good, would have just preferred the pork to be a little more crispy. Also the ube sundae was perfect ! Staff was attentive and helpful. The space is small but cozy. Definitely recommend for a cute little date night!

I've come here several times, but I haven't had the chance to write a review. This is based on their offerings during their Filipino Independence Day celebration. I thought the food was good, the service was quick and the ambiance was very upbeat. However, because they were getting food out so much faster, I think there was a lack of robust flavor profiles, that I'm used to when I eat here. Overall I love eating here just on this particular day it was just a lot more volume!

Stumbled onto this place while driving through Philly. Nice tapas style filipino restaurant. Modern flavors mixed with traditional dishes. Staff was very friendly. And the food was yummy.

The best plates we had were the Filipino spaghetti and the adobo. The spaghetti was indulgent and creamy. The lemongrass it the adobo was so good, I'd definitely go back for that. The rice was tasty too and cooked perfectly. The lumpia were ok, the sauce they came with was good. I wish there were more veggies in the dishes. It was loud as others have said and pretty hot inside despite it being a chilly night. Service was friendly and fast.

What a super filipino fusion cuisine restaurant. It's in a cool neighborhood and the service is awesome. I loved the minimal menu selection as everything on was made beautifully. We tried most everything on the menu. The venue was nice and quaint. There is a time limit on eating 90 min for the 2 of us. The food came quickly and was very good and it's BYOB which is nice.

I have a new little tradition of going out for a meal on the day of the Super Bowl when it's a little easier to get a difficult reservation, and Tabachoy was my choice this year! Made a reservation for 4 online about a week in advance without a hitch. It's a tiny dining room, so you definitely want a reservation and don't gamble on a walk-in. Our group started out with the sampler platter, and got an extra order of lumpia since the sampler only comes with three and we didn't want to fight over them! Each of the apps - lumpia, fried chicken wings, and even the salad - were delicious and bursting with flavor despite their apparent simplicity. For entrees, we got large orders of the chicken adobo, sisig, and pork kare kare. I didn't expect the chicken adobo to be a highlight - another usually simple dish - but the sauce was OUTSTANDING with a deep dark soy sauce flavor and rich sweetness. We had to stop the server from taking the bowl away when we finished the meat because we wanted every last drop of sauce! The dark meat chicken was fall-apart tender on the inside yet delicately crispy like Peking duck on the outside. I had high expectations for the sisig which were met, with a good balance of crisp skin and tender fat, though I'd have liked just a hint more acidity to the flavor. The kare kare unfortunately underwhelmed; the pork cheek was fork-tender, but the peanut-based sauce/seasoning just wasn't flavorful enough compared to the other dishes. I do love other Southeast Asian peanut sauces and curries and this one didn't pack the same punch. For dessert, we got the pandan cheesecake and ube sundae, and the restaurant was kind enough to give us an extra scoop of ube ice cream on the house! The ube ice cream and cheesecake paired really well together and I'm glad we got them both. However, bits of the inedible leaves that the cheesecake was baked in got caught in some of my bites and I had to fish them out. A couple other things I didn't love: the cramped seating (some two-tops were arranged really awkwardly making it hard for diners to get up), the bathroom placement requiring stepping outside the restaurant, the food service being quite slow (maybe why we got the free ice cream?), and I found some of the dishes quite pricey for what they were and the level of ambience/service. I overall still really enjoyed Tabachoy as a treat meal, though I think they deserve a new larger space that better accommodates both guests and crew. I'm glad Filipino food is repped among Philly's popular restaurants and our city could use more!

2.5 Recommend to make reservations the space is pretty tight. Gentrified Filipino food, overpriced considering the portion size. The sisig was good, the egg makes it creamy was well seasoned. The pritong tokwa, is just fried tofu with a sweet and sour sauce, nothing special. I would not go out of my way for this restaurant there's better Filipino food where you can get a larger quantity. The space is so small where you have to exit the restaurant go through a sketchy alleyway to access the bathroom.

I had a resy around 5:30pm and it was fairly empty when we arrived with only 3 other tables occupied, which soon filled up. The overall ambiance was welcoming + our waitress was really nice and explained the specialty dish of the day + menu. For small plates, we got the special of the day (butternut squash ginataan which was a pureed dish that was delicious), fried tofu (our personal fave app), and the south philly laing (super creamy but a bit bitter). For entrees, we tried the adobo which was so so good - the chicken was so moist and flavorful, so worth it. And we ended with the pandan cheesecake + ube sundae, the stars of the meal. I was joking beforehand that I wanted to go to Tabachoy for the desserts but to be honest, the food was all around delicious. To echo some of the other reviews, I also didn't know there was a 1.5 hr time limit and was kind of surprised when the waitress came by to tell us we were nearing the end of our slot (I also wasn't entirely sure why we were being rushed out since other tables had opened up). She was kind enough to add another 10 mins to our time so that we could finish our desserts so that was nice.

Tabachoy is a cozy Filipino restaurant. I had their their lumpia, Filipino spaghetti, pork sisig, and a shrimp curry dish. I really liked everything I ordered - the ones that stood out were definitely the spaghetti and sisig. The entrees come with a choice of white rice or garlic rice, and Filipino garlic rice is always something I like! I also had the ube sundae for desserts and I really liked it!

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it fell short for me. As a Filipina living in the Philadelphia area, I was super excited to hear that a Filipino restaurant opened up. I arrived thinking that I would be served by a fellow Filipino and see a Lola or Lolo in the back but boy was I wrong. This is definitely gentrified Filipino food lol. Not to say that it was bad but as a Filipina, I wasn't impressed. On top of that, the servers kept explaining what each meal was to me in detail which I guess it great but felt weird since I obviously knew what the meals were since I'm filipina. I feel that if you are serving Filipino food, you should know your audience... We did the tasting menu for 2 since there were a lot of options and it was hard to choose from. For $55/person you get to try the appetizer sampler, and all of the following but they get to choose what it is: 2 side dishes, 2 main courses and a dessert). Appetizer Sampler - the caesar salad was alright... I couldn't tell if I liked it or not but it was decent enough that I ate it. The lumpia was so-so, it's hard to mess up lumpia. The chicken wings were definitely bomb though. I just wish they cut them up since they serve them to you kind of whole and it's messy to break apart. The sauce that came was also good. Roasted Brussel Sprouts - While the single layers of the brussel sprouts were crunchy and flavorful, once you got down to the bottom of the dish it was extremely salty. Not surprised since the seasoning for this is thai chilis and patis (fish sauce). Shrimp Ginataang - Was very hesitant on this dish but it turned out to be okay. The shrimp was decent and the sauce was cooked well. Pork Sisig - This was pretty salty in my opinion and nothing to brag about. Dessert - We had the lecheflan cheesecake which was decent but then again, nothing to brag about. Overall, it was a decent experience. It is weird that the restaurant is so small and it feels kind of claustrophobic inside but good for a quick date night or meal. I hope that I can come back and they add a little bit more authenticity to their meals!

We came here to try their Chef's tasting menu set at $55/pp. The restaurant itself is very small. It feels like you stepped in someone's living room and although we had a reservation, we were seated at the bar. In terms of ambiance or decor, there's not much going on. From the bar, it almost feels like you're sitting in a diner. For starters, we got the starter sampler which included lumpia, tabachoy Caesar, and fried chicken wings. We thought it was just fine. Lumpia was probably the best option out of the three. For small plates we got the broccoli rabe, which was also just okay. Nothing really unique or worth noting. For the entree I believe we got the pork sigsig and clam curry. The pork sigsig felt pretty heavy and the clams weren't anything special. We ended with the ube sundae which didn't have much flavor. I think for the amount of food you get, the price is decent. However, for the food itself I was not a huge fan as I thought most of it was oily and lacking flavor.
