"If you can't afford it, go somewhere else!"
I set everything up for my parents. I did this so I can be in charge of their account and take care of it from home. I live out of state. This is difficult sometimes. I tried to do it via the Website but it wasn't working. So, I was forced to go to this store and talk to someone.
To preface this, I was asking a lot of questions and was confused a bit. I wanted to make sure I knew everything about the bill and what was going on because I care about my parents.
The first thing I did was do all of my due diligence before I went in, in order to resolve this as fast as I could. This was after my 70 year old dad was told "you have to have your number released from your provider to have it transferred". I knew this. So, I contacted the previous provider, got the information etc.
I went into T-Mobile, explained what to the schlub what I was told by the previous provider, which was " T-Mobile has to contact them, and they will release it, here is all
of the info" the Schlub replies "that's not how it works" and I said "but it is how it works because I just got off the phone with them, here's all the info you need when you call them" and he said "oh, okay". Oh... yeah, I do know what I'm talking about.
We talked about the bill, he then said it was going to be $35 for a SIM card. And I didn't want to pay for that. Not because "I can't afford it" but because I know I'd I do all of this online and have it sent to my house, there isn't a charge. Which I was told by a previous T-Mobile schlub.
I Said "I don't want to pay for that". He says "okay, I tried to help" and gets up and walks away. I say "yeah, I know what you're doing". He says "what, what am I doing?" and this is from about 15 ft away. He leaned into the situation like a real dumba**. I said "there's a card on the account, I set this up online to avoid this, you want a sale". I turn to walk out the door and from about 30 feet away, with employees and customers in the store the schlub says "tried to help, if you can't afford it, go somewhere else". Or in other words "I don't like my job and I wish I was fired".
Look, there's a card on the account for the expenses. There wasn't even a chance for me to explain this. I get it, make your money, but also, work with me! Place it on the bill. You can add anything and take anything away to the bill. Add it to the bill. I know why he wanted me to use a different card in the store.
Out of respect for everyone else there, I just walked out. Also, I was pretty taken a aback by it. Now, to that employee, you're not smart, you're not kind and you should not be working at a job where you could potentially have to de-escalate a situation. You should be placed somewhere under a car, changing oil or in a dish pit. You're a back of the house kind of guy. I'm not asking for you to be fired, because you are working and that's a positive but I am asking for your supervisor to place you in a back room of the retail store and only exit that room when other employees let you know that the trash needs to be taken out. You might actually be better off making phone calls from a sewer. No human interaction what so ever.
Look, if you have a real issue with T-Mobile and go to a retail store, they say "contact T-Mobile, we can't help you". If you're a customer and need something like a new phone, SIM card, charger, etc they will gladly take your business and charge you.
I set all of this up on my account in order to avoid these stores. Maybe I wasn't transparent enough about what I needed. Maybe I'm a jerk. Or maybe the employee is a schlub. read more
