What a cool little place. During my 1st trip eva to Fall Riva, a friend took me here for some authentic Portuguese food, and a questionable milky green alcoholic bevvy. Upon walking in, it was pretty quiet, except for the old guys at the bar speaking in their native tongue. My friends imitations were spot on! I finally got what he has been talking about! :) I let him do the ordering. It was all amazing. We had a steak w an egg on it, I couldn't for the life of me tell you what it was called, but it was GOOD. We also had the pork w the little necks. Also, great. It was pretty quiet for a Monday afternoon after a hurricane, and Im sure this place gets packed. I'll be looking forward to anotha trip to the Riva for this place. read more

How many family restaurants can you go to and get a Piece of Ass with your meal? Not many,... so look no further and go to TA's and while you're at it, getcha mind out the gutta!! Piece of Ass is a shot the bartender created and made for us after dinner as a "dessert". The calamari with banana peppers was fantastic!! It came in this cute fish shaped bowl that I totally wanted to steal,... The classic Portuguese steak plate was amazing! Can never go wrong with Portuguese Steak at a Portuguese restaurant! The couple I was having dinner with knew the owners and everyone chatted with us while we drank and ate so my experience here was a very positive one. My plate was loaded with food so of course I asked to have my leftovers packaged to go. I get home, pop them in the fridge and wake up anxiously to take my leftovers to work.... boooo I left for work and forgot my leftovers in the fridge. Thats okay, I'll eat them for dinner!! I get home open the fridge.... WHAT?!?!!? NO LEFTOVERS... I looked everywhere in there! I began accusing my mom of eating my leftovers, but nope it wasn't her. A few weeks later, we're out to a family dinner and I asked my dad if he ever ate my leftover's from TA's... he said oh no no no it wasn't me. Sorry, this was not a hit. We had a $25 gift certificate for this place, and I love Portuguese cuisine.....I wasn't impressed. We felt like 2nd rate customers from the moment we presented the gift certificate. The wait staff was incredibly slow, especially seeing as it was a Wednesday and there were maybe 4 tables between 2 waitresses? The biggest party was of 4...this isn't rocket science. At the beginning of our meal we asked about a wine, she said she would double check on it. She didn't remember the wine again until our main entrees arrived. I asked for a 2nd soda, seeing as wine never came...I got my 2nd soda during the middle of our main entrees, after the wine even. We asked for no lemon juice in the shrimp appetizer...we seemed to get extra lemon juice and several more lemons to squeeze into the app. There was a long wait for apps, and an even longer wait between apps and our actual dinner. We got desserts to go, and even this they couldn't do properly. We asked for triple chocolate mousse and plain cheesecake. We got cheesecake and tiramisu....thanks but no thanks, neither of us like it and we didn't realize it was incorrect until after we got home. Not worth the hassle, all set. read more

What a great surprise! My daughter and I came here after shopping for her bridal dress and loved it! Great atmosphere, food and prices. Please don't ask me to pronounce or write what I had, I can't but I will describe it! I'm a carb freak, so it started with Portuguese rolls all soft, lathered in butter, my mouths watering just remembering and a bottle of Portuguese white wine (only $15). I had Steak tips with shrimp in this delicious dark garlic sauce for my entree, I could have licked the plate clean it was so good! My daughter had a traditional steak with a fried egg on top, she loved hers but I'm not a big egg fan . Rice pudding with lemon rind was dessert, I was a little disappointed in that, it was tasty but rather dry, I prefer more custard than rice. Next time I'll try the flan! Here's the rundown: - Classic Portuguese Restaurant in Fall River - Fantastic prices - Best Rabbit I've had anywhere - surprised it was a special and not on the menu every day - Octopus was easily some of the best I've had at any Portuguese restaurant which are notorious for overcooking octopus - Steaks were all a bit dry. Not sure why they were skimping on the molho (sauce), but it made for three disappointing steaks at this table of 8 - Shrimp Mozambique app was solid - Quejo Fresco was very good as were the Littlenecks - The big miss was the service. I've never been to any restaurant where the server wouldn't help the runner/busboy run food from the kitchen especially if it's busy and backed up. It was odd I'll come back for Rabbit or Octopus. read more

My mother and I came here on a suggestion from the bridal store next door. Authentic Portuguese cuisine and an excellent waitstaff! I had the Bitoque, I asked for medium and came out well done, but nevertheless it was hot and delicious. My mother chose the Picadinhos de Carne e Camarão, beef tips and shrimp in a brown garlic gravy, and THAT dish was better than my own! All this served with some Aveleda wine (which was reasonably priced), and the rice pudding. My only complaint would be that the pudding was very dry, but still had great flavor. If you're on the quest to find the elusive "perfect Portuguese steak" in Fall River, then you mustn't neglect TA's offerings. Because despite the subjectivity such a discovery entails, you would then have a glaring lack of credibility and be openly mocked and scorned by your peers immediately after making any type of culinary pronouncement. Sometimes, you just have to do your homework. Venture here for European charm and hospitality. Yeah, it's of the Portuguese variety, so it's sometimes crude, but they keep it real. I no make joke. I think the crew of guys at the bar came with the restaurant when it was created in the early 80s. I am convinced they would melt á la Wicked Witch of the West if they ever ventured outdoors. But while still among the living, they seem fond of futebol, Sagres, vinho e companheiros. Don't miss TA's calamari appetizer. It's not the greasy type often found in Portuguese cuisine. And you might want to order it as your entrée because it can fill two grown men. While you're at it though, don't deny yourself the deliciousness of the Arroz de Marisco. Predictably, much of the menu is composed of variations on a theme: lots of starches, olive oil and beef offerings. So in many ways, TA's rendering of Portuguese fare is well done, though it still seems somewhat mundane. And I think that if the latter is true, it's only because of a regional saturation of places just like TA. read more

I am Portuguese and grew up in Fall River, so I have eaten A LOT of Portuguese food! This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The portions are big, prices are reasonable (my husband and I often get drinks, soup, appetizer, and meals for about $50!), and the service is superior to other Portuguese restaurants. There have been a few times I have had to complain about bad service or food, but 99% of the time it is a wonderful experience. Nothing has ever been so bad I wouldn't go back! Try the kale soup, littlenecks, chourico bombeiro, pork altejanta, azorean baked fish, etc etc. All worth it, I have never had anything on the menu I didn't like, and I have had just about everything! They always have great specials too. $15 for a bottle of wine, how can you beat that?! They do take out as well, and host parties downstairs. That can get a bit a loud sometimes, but mostly it is a quiet, romantic atmosphere, with Portuguese music, candles on the table, and hardly ever a wait, even on weekends. read more

My octopus was the best I'd ever had, his porco alentejana was perfect, a Licor Beirao for dessert was a revelation. T A Restaraunt was a wonderful dining experience. We are from Florida, and they had great Portuguese dishes. The Shrimp Mozambique was out of this world, especially with a pitcher of Sangria. We also had the Octopus. I was a little leary at first as I have never had it before. It was amazing, grilled, baked and sauteed. The owner, Kevin, sat with us and answered any questions we had. I've been going here for years. The last few times I have been the service has been not quite spot on. This past Friday night the service was HORRIBLE! When we entered there were only 2 tables with people at them on the non bar side. There was no party downstairs. They started to push some tables together in the back for a party of 8 they said so we decided to order ASAP before they got there. Well there were 3 other tables seated within our first 8 or 10 minutes there. Their servers greeted them and brought drinks while we sat waiting. Our server showed up and we ordered drinks apps and our meals. It was more than 10 minutes before our drinks came out. Other tables seated after us got their apps at about the same time. We got the Bombeiro and some clams, came too slow, our server didn't bring then another server did, they were warm and only tasted of SALT! There were 4 of us at the table 4 of our meals were WRONG when they finally showed up! The entree itself was correct but either rice fries or veggies were not what was asked. Again they were not brought by our server, but by the woman that was sort of working the door that night. They were just warm and overly salty. This used to be the place to go, but now they got 3 strikes and they are out for me. read more

After checking many different portuguese restaurants in Fall River, it seems, that this is one of the only ones open on Mondays. Smallish on the inside but it felt like a nice home experience. Fresh bread and butter is given to start. The family ordered the goat cheese and red pepper, they loved it, but it's not an appetizer meant for me. My food was very good, ordered the Pork Alentejana, which I have tried just about everywhere. It was a smaller portion than other places but it had some of the best flavor, and quality meat. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals (mostly steak/pork dishes) so it seems that most dishes are a safe bet. Everything was well-seasoned, and presented nicely. Very glad we came to this restaurant even though it wasn't our first choice, I will be returning whenever I want a high quality Carne de Porco Alentejana. read more

I had never been to a Portuguese restaurant so I had done some research on what I might want to order. I checked on Yelp and everything kept coming back to the octopus. That it was the best thing on the menu and people would come back just for that. So I was delighted to hear one of the specials was Grilled Octopus. I ordered it and when I say it was probably the best thing I have ever eaten I am not exaggerating. I was worried it might be chewy but it was grilled to perfection. I cannot wait to go back but will be calling ahead to see if they have that on the menu. read more

Fall River is not known to be a foodie destination. TA did nothing to dissuade me of that notion. The dehydrated rice and veggies were cooked well (you know the kind with the little shriveled up peas, the square pieces of carrot, and the tiny pieces of corn) but it was a little bland. My wife, who will eat anything, thought the powdered potatoes in the potatoe and kale soup were also a little bland. The frozen shrimp were in a sauce that did have a hint of spice. The french fries were on the soggy side. The rolls were stale. On a more positive note, the water was cold. read more

Just had dinner there. Food was sub par and extremely salty. My wife sent back the tuna. It was inedible. The waitress offered to bring something else. We took her up on the offer, ordering cod. The cod, which was to be a boneless piece and grilled, arrived with bones and was fried. When we got the bill I noticed a 2 dollar item added on to the bill. I questioned the waitress who told us it was the difference between the two dishes!! That was a first for us: not only the first dish was inedible, and returned, we paid for the difference, which by the way, since both were specials, we were not aware of either price. It's been around that long because they serve very good food at a reasonable price. I'm not an octopus fan, but everybody that has had the octopus here love it. The BEST in Fall River. Their steak is like every other in town. That's because the Portuguese tend to over cook their meat. But still good flavor. I tend to go with chicken, seafood or pork. Well the beer is cold. The service was seriously lacking. Manny was our waiter maybe the poor bugger worked a double shift I don't know. So we started off with the littlenecks as an appetizer. They were very good especially when I was sopping up the broth with the Portuguese rolls. Then we waited a very long time in a near empty restaurant for our entree's. We got the pork and potatoes which were average at best. We also got the strips of steak and potatoes which came in a dark garlic gravy which I would go back there for. I don't think TA's is your normal Portuguese restaurant it is a little different than most that I have been to. So if you are looking for more authentic I suggest trying somewhere else. read more
