These guys are terrible and rude. They will argue with you that they can't take a credit card for delivery but they eventually do if you argue enough. Had an order tonight that came to $24.12 and when the delivery driver came to the door she told me $25. Told her they told me 24.12 and she played the dumb and confused card. Gave her 30 and asked for 2 dollars back since I was already charged $1.40 for delivery and she claimed she doesn't carry cash and walked off. Just terrible. Have had issues every time dealing with them and this one was the straw the broke the camels back. Never again. read more

This was our first time ordering from here. We called first to ensure that they delivered and took credit cards over the phone. The woman with an accent taking the order seemed very pressed for time and when we were pretty sure she didn't have the correct address as she kept repeating back something totally different, we started counting down the 30 minutes she said it would take for delivery. At 25 minutes a man called and took the address again and appeared within 8-10 more minutes. He assured us the food would be terrific. Made us wonder if he was an owner. The food was ... good. The House Special Wonton Soup was loaded with al dente veggies, meat and wontons like I like it but the broth was a little bland. A bit of soy sauce worked. The "[#4] Seafood Delight with Fresh jumbo shrimp, lobster, scallops & crabmeat w. assorted vegs in tasty seafood sauce." was also good. The fish was cooked nicely, wasn't tough and again the veggies weren't overcooked. We did notice that there wasn't a single piece of recognizable lobster and we're pretty sure it was imitation crab meat. We were tired and hungry and it was satisfactory. read more

I got a big relief from the anxiety that I've been experiencing every time I go to Szechuan Express. The lady behind the desk is so nasty. I asked her for an extra fortune cookie and she said "one dollar and twenty five cent'. I waved my hand at her and said forget it. Over the phone she is rude and disrespectful. The owner is even worse ! The food is no where near as good as it was a few years ago. The place is dirty. I noticed that they send you old food when you call in for delivery. So, I just stopped getting food from there. I'm not about to spend my hard earned money at a place where my business is not appreciated. What's the definition of insanity? Dong the same thing and expecting a different result. I wish there was a government office that I could report them to. They need to go out of business. Maybe Better Business Association is a start. Meanwhile, I've come up with two places that have good food and respect for their customers. "Two Chinese Boys" in Joppatowne will deliver to Abingdon. They are very nice and just ask that you take care of the driver for the extra distance. It's worth it. Then there is a relatively new restaurant called Habachi Grill. The low mien is great. For the first 6 years I lived here, we went exclusively to this restaurant for Chinese. It really started to go downhill at some point around then, the food tasted worse and the inside, which was never excellent to look at, got dirtier. My wife finally told me to stop going there, which was fine by me. I do miss their fried dumplings, but they hadn't been the same the last few times I had stopped there. read more

This place does have good food but I will not be ordering from here anymore. I called last night and was told they were "too busy " to take my card number. I work hard for my money and believe that if a business makes it an frustrating to take it doesn't deserve it. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I called to place a delivery order and a VERY rude and nasty woman answered the phone. She asked for my delivery address, which is 2 miles down the road from the restaurant, and she YELLED, "NO. We don't delivery to you," and hung up the phone. The next time we went in to pick up our order we were told that they do accept credit cards for delivery and didn't know why we were told they wouldn't take a card for delivery. Some items are better than others. Any of the chicken dishes that are battered and fried are mostly skin and fat it seems. Order chicken that you actually see the meat and you'll be OK. I have been going here on and off for the last 10 years. It has always been dirty with cardboard boxes cut up on the tables, dirty floors and disgusting bathroom. They act like they are doing you a favor when they give you your food, no smiles and no thank you. That is unfortunately what we have come to expect from these little Chines places so I guess I was willing to put up with it as long as the food was OK. It was never anything to write home about, but recently it seems to have gone way down hill in terms of quality. The fried rice now is like dark brown soaked in soy sauce rice with a bad taste, and the food generally is not good. also the prices have gone up. Fraid we are done with this place. Easily the worst Kung Pao Chicken I've ever had. Absolutely inedible, I threw away 3/4 of it. The order was loaded with diced carrots and peanuts and very little chicken. And oddly enough, that was probably a good thing, because the quality of the chicken makes me wonder if it was actually chicken. Fried rice with it was tasteless. Perhaps there was a management change? On my most recent and most likely last order the food was bland and the texture of the bourbon chicken and lo mein was off. Szechuan Express used to be the only Chinese food I would order in this area (even though they would never let me pay with a credit card for delivery). But recently it seems like they completely changed out their cook crew. All of my go-to menu items had a different flavor than before and the quality was seriously lacking. The first time I thought it was just a fluke but when I ordered a second and third time and found the same problems, I had to give up on them. Ive ordered general tso chicken several times and never was it *hot and spicy as the menu claims. I've even asked for it to be prepared extra spicy and it was still served in a very sweet sauce. A few months ago I tried them again and ordered combination lo mein and was again disappointed to find there weren't any vegetables, I went a different route tonight and ordered just veggie lo main. To add a few shreds of carrots and two small pieces of broccoli DOES NOT SUFFICE AS ENOUGH VEGETABLES TO EVEN CALL IT THAT. I mean, I've had more vegetables in a side of fried rice and they don't call it vegetable fried rice. I've decided to never order from them again because its not even mediocre Chinese food. This is one of the very few Chinese takeouts in Harford County, most of the time, their food is pretty good but I have always had an issue with their customer etiquette. I usually overlook the rude customer service but today- I just could not. Me and a visiting relative entered in and there was not a greeting or any acknowledging of our presence. I actually had to say, "Hellllllo is anyone going to attend to us". One seemingly arrogant teen looked at us and proceeded to do what he was doing behind the counter and completely dismissed my comment. The owner quickly stood up as he could sense our unhappiness (he would have been able to sense it sooner but he was so focused on his cell phone) and finally gave us our food. My aunt was so shocked at how rude the teen was she had to say, "we resent being ignored, we understand you are busy (even though it was 9:15 on a Sunday night and no one was in the restaurant.) but the least you could do is say, "One moment please I will be right with you." The whole time this teen employee was smirking and laughing. After she said that, the teen finally picked up his head and said,"I don't care". He was in front of the owner when he said this. I was enraged but out of respect for elderly aunt, I did my best to calm her down. I wish I would have thought more quickly on my feet because I would have not taken the food and kept my money and dignity. My aunt has lived 50 years in Brooklyn, NY and has never witnessed such lack of respect for the customer. This will be my last visit. The food can be good but I honestly lost my appetite. read more

General Tso Chicken and Four Seasons (chef specialty) were very good. The fried rice that came with our meals was mediocre, may just order a side of pork fried rice next time. Crab wontons were quite tasty. My one gripe is that the staff was not friendly whatsoever. We've ordered from this place for years and have always dealt with the less than stellar customer service because the food was always good. Well it's been on a decline for a while now and the customer service is worse than ever. Between the abrupt rudeness we're always greeted with and the refusal to accept credit cards randomly it's always been questionable, but tonight took the cake and has solidified us no longer ordering from there. Ordered delivery tonight and they delivered about ten minutes before they close only to open our bag and find we were missing an entree. So we called back and the woman just kept speaking over my boyfriend saying "It's on the way" and then hung up on him. Well about ten minutes goes by and I called back only to have her cut me off and tell me too bad they were closed now even after I explained we had tried to call ten minutes ago and had gotten hung up on after her telling us it was coming. Told her this was unacceptable and inquired about receiving our $10 back to which she told me I could come get tomorrow though I doubt I'll ever see it as we were not provided with a receipt. We just moved to the Abingdon area and enjoy the good food at Szechuan Express. The past 3 times we've ordered take out they have had quick delivery but tonight 9/12 the lady who answered was very rude said our house was out of the way (2 miles away??) and after giving my order then quickly stated that they only take cash and hung up on me. My wife called back the same employee answering, and stated that we had ordered at the restaurant and there was never a problem with delivery. The woman immediately stated they did not take credit, which is when we offered a check. She said she needed the number right now because of false checks they were receiving. My wifes aid that she just needed to go to our desk to get the check number when the employee said the same story again. My wife then explained she did not need to be rude, as the woman kept yelling. At this point, my wife stated that we no longer needed to give our MONEY and BUSINESS to a place that was argumentative and rude. It is safe to say, we will NOT be ordering from this establishment in the future. Unfortunately for Szechuan Express but fortunately for us we found Chinese boys (5 miles away and no problem with delivery) they also except credit cards and offers 2 free egg rolls with delivery!! read more
