Having been satisfied with delivery in the past, I decided to drop in to order while in the area. BIG mistake. The woman at the counter had a pissed-off, surly attitude. She seemed annoyed to even be there at all. The interior is unsettling, because you wonder what the last time was anyone actually dined-in. Decorations that added charm in the 80s now look like sad reminders of this restaurant's former glory. Now the once-dining-room is a unkempt living room for angry schoolgirls who are pissed-off they can't watch tv uninterrupted with their friends. Orders will sit there till the cook (mom? dad?) scolds one of them to carry it to the counter, some thirteen feet away. The food was good enough, and I hoped the kitchen looked cleaner than the rest of what I saw, but I won't order from there again. Just too shitty and depressing. read more

Rudeness, disrespect, and racist behavior are indicative of not only poor customer service, but also poor business and inadequate interpersonal skills. Most of May Flower's customers in this neighborhood are African American. If the person who is filling an order cannot accept a customer's concern about a product that was below standard, they should not be involved in the food service industry. Mayflower has moved across the street and is no longer a dine in restaurant. They have some of the BEST roast pork Yat Gaw Mein I've ever tasted! Also, try their House Fried rice. I would also recommend trying Shrimp Fried Rice add roast pork, AMAZING! read more

It was 12:30am when I finally found a Chinese restaurant in Baltimore that was 1) open and 2) would deliver. That Chinese restaurant happened to be May Flower and they happily took my order* and had it delivered to me prior to 1am**. The food was awesome. I order beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, pork fried rice, egg rolls, and wonton soup. This was some of the freshest take-out Chinese I've had in a very long time. Typically I am not a fan of ordering Chinese food in any city other than NYC - but there's something about the sound of pork fried rice after a night out that just is just sooo tempting to me. In eight years of living in this area, I've never had Chinese food delivered. I assumed it was all low grade stuff made from pigeons instead of chicken. Man, was I wrong a bout May Flower Chinese! I decided I couldn't leave the house during the Olympics to pick up dinner. Enter May Flower. I called and had my food in under 30 minutes. It was steaming hot and super tasty. Without a menu I was able to order the cheese wontons (SO SO good), general tso's tofu (would prefer deep fried but why am I trying to kill myself), egg drop soup and a very tasty lemonade. When my food arrived there were two sodas included for the choosing. I guess I ordered so much they assumed there was more than one of me.... I'll be back to May Flower. Usually they're pretty good (admittedly the best Chinese food in the neighborhood) but they're incredibly rude. They don't pay attention to delivery instructions AT ALL, and are generally unpleasant on the phone. My most recent experience made me resolved to never order from there again--I spent more than 20 minutes talking to a downright abrasive delivery man trying to figure out WHERE he was so I could pick up my food, and he never gave me an answer. Decent American Chinese food for pretty cheap, especially at lunch. We always get take out, and it's ready quickly, often in 15 minutes. Food seems fresh, hot, and portions are huge. My husband would order from here almost every night if he could! read more

People who run this place must live in there because they were camped out in the dining room like it was they're living room. That made for strange ambiance. Then as we waited for our meal we got to witness what appeared to be an argument between only what i can assume was the mother and daughter. That lasted through half of our meal. The later half of our meal was interrupted by a woman coming in to pick up for carry out. She was angry because in her opinion they had a problem with women because when her husband calls in the order they get it right but when she calls it in they get it wrong. We ordered there at midnight, then called when the food did not arrive. We then left a message saying that if they were closed, just cancel the order. The next day, at noon, they called saying the food order was there. We said that the order was from last night and we cancelled it. The manager called us later and yelled at us, and when we said that the order was from 12 hours ago, and that we left a message to cancel it and that it's reasonable to not want food that we ordered 12 hours ago, the manager just yelled at us more, told us we weren't getting the money back and hung up. I have to say I am disappointed to be writing this review, which has both high and low points. I have been ordering from Mayflower for 2 years and the food has always been of the highest quality. The delivery has always been relatively quick and always fresh and hot with what someone referred to as "soda surprise". However....they always have an issue with the credit card machine. Some work while some don't.....or sometimes the machine is not working at all. SPEND THE MONEY AND REPLACE THE MACHINE!!! The lady taking orders is generally abrupt and you feel like you get hung up on once you complete your order. She comes across as very rude, but you tend to let it slide because, well, the food is quality. Most recently, however, order was given and taken. Had the usual game of which credit card will work today and then, about 25 minutes later the delivery man arrived. Only problem was that when I opened the bag, they had made a mistake with the order. In place of House Mei Fun there was House Fried Rice, which I might have let go were it not for the large order of Shrimp and Pork Fried Rice that we had ordered. No one needs that much rice for 3 people. So I called and advised of the error. After listening to a 3 minute exchange in chinese, the lady tells me that I should set the erroneous order aside and that the driver will bring the Mei Fun to 'exchange' for the unwanted rice. Ohh, but I will also need to pay an additional $3.15 and return their mistake. Mind you, it's not about the money or the exchange protocol. It's simply the idea that I should be required to pay for their mistake. I have many years of customer service background and I even used to manage a family restaurant. Never would I ask a patron to pay for a company error. You correct the error and eat the few dollars as a gesture that you value the customer more than a singular payment. You demonstrate that you wish to retain a long term buisiness relation with the customer. I always tip well. $5 to the delivery driver when the restaurant is a 3 minute walk from my house. I even gave him an additional tip when he delivered the "hostage exchange". This put me off and served as a final straw and the last time I will ever order from Mayflower. Somewhat sketchy looking from the outside and the decor inside is less than inviting but don't let that keep you from ordering to take home. The buffet itself is standard fare, but nothing special. What gets my praise is their delivery! Food is HOT and PLENTIFUL. Singapore curry noodles with large shrimp (not those tiny crappy canned ones), orange chicken with the right amount of breading, not too soft, not over cooked. And frankly "steamed vegetable perfection" - Broccoli that's *bright* green, just a bit of a 'bone' to it. And finally, it's the serendipity of the sodas you get with every order (you don't have to ask, they just come with your order) : When you open the bag up it's "Soda Surprise"! Every time, something different. Random back of the shelf brands and flavors (Pineapple?!) to name brands - but in different sizes too - 12oz + .500ml, or three 16 oz, or 2 of 1 and a 3rd something else. It's a riot!
