A gorgeous location that is easy to get to with not your run of the mill reds and whites. My personal favorite is the Gruener Veltliner and the Cinsault.

    Winery dog!

One of my favorite winery experiences in Washington State. Tucked into old oaks in the Columbia Gorge, Syncline is a relaxed new-school winery with an old-school feel. Vines, aged oak trees, old wood barns, family-farming, wood fired pizzas, friendly winery dogs, kiddos running around smiling, hammocks, bocci ball, oxidized metal patio chairs, and some darned good wine. We tasted seven wines for $5, and their very reasonable tasting fee is waved with a Yelp check in (AND waved if you went to Maryhill Museum that day and can show your receipt, OR waved if you buy a great bottle of wine here. Seriously, you can't loose.) We apparently just missed Seattle chef impressario, Matt Dillon (the winery bragged) who came up for the weekend and this very morning made breakfast for the wine maker (lucky!) in exchange for staying here (lucky Matt.) I forgot to ask what they had for breakfast. I would make breakfast too for the privilege of staying here. Gesh! Beyond the name dropping and the great foodie tie-ins, the thing is just that Syncline is simply, setting-wise, one of the most beautiful, family-friendly, low-key (complete with winery dog!) Washington wineries I have visited --and I've visited a few. A local Hood River pizza spot had pulled out their portable wood fired pizza oven and was holding court, one of Syncline's remarkable reds was selling out (got a last few bottles) and the warm breeze was blowing through the oak trees as our daughter rocked in a hammock. Did I mention the gourmet smores we had for dessert in the wood fired oven (thanks to local wood-fired Solstice Pizza being on-site the day we visited)? My kiddo grilled me to verify that I was giving this place five stars. Answer: yes!

Located in the high desert area of The Gorge, COR Cellars is a beautiful and serene setting. There…read moreare several seating areas: a large patio surrounding a garden of native plants with chairs and couches around the perimeter; Adirondack chairs near the vineyard overlooking the grasses and hills; indoors next to a fireplace with sweeping views of the property; and even private tents up on the hill. We were thrilled to be there on one of the first sunny days in a very rainy 2022 Spring, so we sat on the sunny patio with the bright blue skies and native plants as the backdrop. We were greeted with a glass of Cab Franc Rose, which I had never had before, and we both really enjoyed it. We selected the flight since it was our first time having COR wine and we wanted a variety. The flight arrives in a tin bucket with individual carafes of each pour. There were four plus a complimentary pour, so three whites and two reds. Of the whites, the Cab Fran Rose remained my fave and I also enjoyed the Pinot Gris which was crisp and light. I'm a fan of big, bold reds but because of the sun, the red wines got so hot that we couldn't drink them which was really unfortunate. They did include a small bag of ice in the bucket to keep the wines cool but it was no match for the sun. Next time, even if I am tempted by the sun, I will select a seating area in the shade so we can enjoy all of the wines in the tasting. To round out our experience, we ordered the charcuterie for $35. COR continues to be very careful with Covid protocols so the charcuterie is a kit that you put together. Olympic Provisions salami, a box of hearty crackers, Marcona almonds and casteveltrano olives in mason jars, and a soft cheese were provided; all delicious. Service was warm and friendly, they answered our questions thoroughly. Some customers like to have the staff pour each taste and explain the wine; at COR you pour your own and info on the wines is provided on a card. I prefer it this way so I can drink at my speed and our conversation isn't continuously interrupted with a description of the next wine. Everyone has their own preference but this style works for me. Will definitely be back!

If you love wine tasting ... want to try a naturally fermented wine ... perhaps you're an…read moreeco-friendly person ... care about the planet ... a tree hugger or salmon lover ... support those who care for the soil and its ecosystems ... then support this place. It's a uniquely awesome wine ...and aged vinegar ... tasting experience! Klickitat Canyon Winery ( a gem to visit) is a small, family-run winery creating natural wines all hand-crafted. Their motto is "we let the grapes make the wine" using natural yeasts in the grapes and don't add sulfites or other chemicals. Best wine you can drink! Enjoy the natural tastes swish over the bulbous linings on your tongue and pallet - soothing the throat into your body's temple. The wine develops at its own fermentation pace until proper dryness and taste, then bottled. This process produces complex unfiltered wines that will please and surprise your pallet - we can attest to that! Most all the wines are organic. The estate grapes are "eco-dynamic" meaning keeping the land in tact as is, keeping other ecosystems out, and paying attention to maintain a healthy soil. Native wild flowers, lots of lupine and balsam root, grow throughout the vineyard. Wild flowers attract pollinators. In fact, the vineyard is "Bee certified" by Oregon State University (I think). Western meadowlark (we saw them) eats the bugs off the vines - that helps eradicate pests and the need to use pesticides. How cool is that? They also produce a bunch of 8-year aged organic wine vinegars that tasted wonderful. We picked some to go with a few bottles of wine too! Tasting room inside and outside makes you feel you are out on the farm - definitely out of the city into the Klickitat hills, oak woodlands and wildflowers. A pleasurable natural wonder setting to enjoy the naturally fermented wines. Overall a 5-star YELP experience! The wines we tasted - we could tell the difference of natural yeast on inside our gums and tongue - unique - loved it: Organic Meadowlark Gold 2020. Grapes grown on eco-dynamic property. Subtle fruit flavors of pear, apricot and hazelnut. Dry and light. Organic Chardonnay 2020. Fruity berry forward, pineapple and lime flavors. Light and refreshing. Organic Estate Monarch Rose 2019. Delicate with syrupy fruit of pomegranate in a nicely balanced acidity, fragrance of rose petals. Smells and taste like a liquor to me. Organic Marechal Foch 2018 - Northwest Wine Summit medal winner. Dark cherry, deep, velvety and rich with white pepper and tobacco notes. Organic Tempranillo 2014. Rich and fruit forward, nice acidic finish with a hint of vanilla. Organic Ruby Red. Blend of Syrah, Pinot noir, Marechal Foch. Balance with grapefruit, deep very, earth, tannins and leather. Organic Pinot Noir 2018. Bold with notes in Marionberry without much acidity and a fine barrel aged quality. Organic Estate Syrah 2017. Deep and smooth, fruit forward with dark berry notes like dried cherries and plums.

I told them they should open a bottle themselves to check it so that one, they know I am not lying about this, and two so they stop selling spoiled wine to people! After reading online reviews, they have done this to other people in the past. So incredibly disappointing to be treated like this from a business.

This was our first visit to the winery. We ended up buying two extra bottles to take home. One of those bottles had been discounted to $15 since it was a 2022 vintage. We paid the cashier to with our debit card and my husband put the receipt into his wallet, so I didn't see it until two days later when I was doing our banking. That was when I noticed we had been charged $25 for the $15 bottle of the discounted wine. We had even mentioned to the cashier that we were happy to find one of our favorites on their discount shelf. I called the winery on Saturday morning and left a voicemail regarding the overcharge for the bottle of wine. Then I went to Maryhill Winery website and emailed a message to their customer service. Later that day, I received an email from the wine club administrator advising me that she had forwarded my message directly to the winery. She had also set up a shopping account for me and when I added my information to the account, I saw that there was a 10% discount on my first order. I wrote back to her and let her know that all I really wanted the refund, so I included pictures of our receipt and the bottle of wine showing the discount price sticker which we were overcharged for. It's been four days and no word from anyone regarding the overcharge for the wine. I have no use for the shopping account either since I can buy Maryhill wines cheaper in our local grocery stores. We should have gone over to Biggs Junction and purchased our wine there because all the small grocery store's Maryhill wines were priced at least $10 a bottle cheaper than at the winery's. We realize that we should have checked our receipt before leaving the winery, but at least I caught the error and notified them of it. Four days later, Maryhill Winery's customer service has not deemed my request for a refund worthy of a reply. After reading other one-star and two-star reviews on their restaurant food and service, it appears that we aren't the only ones unhappy with their customer service. Needless to say, my husband and I will not ever visit the winery again.
