I somewhat stumbled upon Hawkins Cellars after a recent fire this summer in the gorge blocked access to my regular spots (fortunately they are ok!) and I'm SO happy I did! First off, yes, the view is incredible.... but there is so much more to love about this place. The staff and owners could not be nicer. I joined the wine club, and they host really nice/cozy events each quarter, complete with wine tasting and some tasty housemade food/snacks. I recomend checking this place out unless you only like giant fancy wineries. This is more in the boutique casual (in a good way!) category, which is exactly what I like! Loved everything about my visit to Hawkins and will definitely be visiting this winery again. The wines were all very drinkable, meaning they are good with food, but also very good on their own which is what I look for in a wine. Service was friendly, genuine smiles and conversation. The various seating areas are intimate yet still give the sense of being around others and sharing an experience. And if the sun is out, the view of the mountain is spectacular! When you come to the Gorge to go wine tasting, visit Hawkins for a lovely time, sitting in an Adirondack chair or at a picnic table on the grass sipping wine and taking in the beauty. There are a few other wineries to visit while in Underwood so make a day of it! read more

3.5 Stars---Hawkins Cellars has a great view of Mt. Hood and that's about it. The staff were very friendly and their tasting flight pours were generous. The grounds and house were also a great touch with the view we had. I felt as if their prices were too high for the quality of the wines. Out of six flights, I only cared for the Riesling and the Pinot Noir. The Riesling has a price of $28 for non-members and $22.40 for club (they should just round it down to $22) ~eye roll~ . If I were in the area again, I would certainly take my friends there for the view and let them decide on the wine profiles. read more

My family and I visited Hawkins Cellars in Hood River over vacation. We really enjoyed the red wine they had to offer as well as the whites. We tried both flights of the red and white wines. I know my reds better than whites but truly enjoyed both. Their Riesling was very refreshing on the hot days (which I usually find too sweet but this one was perfect). Their Syra red was extremely delightful and by far my favorite. The staff was so enjoyable to converse with. We typically had Bruce helping us and he is such a joy to talk to. Had a lovely time visiting! The owner (I think?) helped us set up a private seating area in the grass for our toddler to play while we enjoyed the tasty wines. As I drank one of their delicious wines yesterday, (2015 Mourvèdre) I realized how much I miss going to taste their amazing offerings. Unfortunately I have since moved out of the area, but have great memories of being a part of Club Cuvée. Thane, Deb and team are amazing, and their passion shows not only in Hawkins wines, but also how friendly and attentive they are with patrons. Our visit to Hawkins Cellars was a real treat. The view of Mt Hood was spectacular. The shaded yard was perfect for relaxing to taste the fine wines of Hawkins Cellars. Came here after a hike and they have the perfect little outdoor space that overlooks the hill, and on a clear day, you can see Mt. Hood. They're dog friendly, so I sat outside on the lawn near their fire pit with my fur child while I enjoyed a glass of their rosè (which was amazing). We live within 20 minutes of many great wineries in the Hood River/White Salmon area, but Hawkins has by far become our favorite. Great views from Underwood mountain, and owners Thane and Deb are wonderful. We spent several sunny summer afternoons hanging out there with live music, friends and an egregiously stunning Mount Hood view. Walked in on a Sunday at around 2pm. Sign on the street (14) advertised live music from 2-5. There were many cars in front of the tasting room. As I approached, I noticed that there was a large spread of food, and people were enjoying the picnic tables and their wine and food. I walked straight in, toward the tasting counter. Nobody was manning it or paying any attention. I came for wine tasting. But there wasn't anyone offering wine tasting. I waited while some young staff approached other guests. This winery is amazing! The view of Mt. Hood is gorgeous and the atmosphere is so cozy and inviting. The wine is on point and they make and grow the Pinot noir on site. Our visit to Hawkins Cellars was perfect. The setting is intimate on the Underwood Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge. From its easily accessible, secluded location we enjoyed their tasting selections, from their comfortable outdoor setting, with their grapevines and Mt. Hood in full view. Had to join the wine club soon as I experienced the lovely wine and atmosphere at Hawkins Cellars in Underwood, WA, which is a quick hop from White Salmon, WA and Hood River, OR. It's taken me two years to join one of the wineries in the area because I wanted not only great wine but also super friendly people. I always receive a warm welcome when I show up with friends to visit the winery. Plan your trip to visit Hawkins in the spring when they open up their tasting room and you can enjoy all their wine while sitting on the expansive green lawn overlooking their wine grapes and the view of Mt. Hawkins Cellars is my number one favorite winery! I love love love their wine and the owners, Debra and Thane. This is the only winery that I can say I like every single one of their wines -- and I overheard other customers say the same. If I had to choose my favorite- it would be the reserve Syrah which is bold and delicious. The Caldera Red is also really good and smooth. We enjoy Hawkins Cellars wine with friends on our deck, with dinner, movies, special occasions, and even take it camping -see photo of my husband during our Deschutes River rafting/boating and fishing trip. The view from the Underwood location is breathtaking and the tasting venue is a comfortable and relaxing place to hang out. We have visited a number of times since their opening and always receive exceptional customer service! During the summer we enjoyed several picnics up there and live music. It's a must do activity with local and visiting friends and family!
