The name, Idiot's Grace, made me chuckle as I passed this vineyard on my way up to Rowena Crest. I knew that after my hike, I'd have to check out this vineyard. Locaged in Mosier, I didn't realize that there were vineyards in and fruit orchards here, having always stopped in Hood River and Parkdale, never venturing further west. But just five miles past Hood River, the charming town of Mosier with its incredible vistas, trails, vineyards and orchards exists and can stand in its own. Smaller, quaint and even more charming and laid back than its much larger neighbor. The outdoor area here is beautiful with incredible river views and in the other direction, Mt. Hood. There is a covered area outdoors and seating on the lawn for those craving sun. All precautions were taken during Covid to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience. The wines are delicious! Rich, dark, bigger - reminding me of Zins. My preference is for the bigger and bolder reds so I was very happy with the wines I tasted. If you buy a bottle, the tasting fees are waived, and I was happy to buy a few to enjoy back home. The Cab Franc was my favorite and I also enjoyed the Syrah/Grenache blend. The staff happily educated me on the wines while asking me about my preferences to find a match. They shared the history of the surrounding area and the original inhabitants. Nearby Memaloose island was a burial sight for the Indian tribes that lived in this region, who did not bury the dead but created vaults on the island. This was the first time I tried Memaloose wines and I'm so glad I did! I'll definitely stop here again and next time plan on driving on into Washington to try the wines there. I realized that the beauty and good wines just starts in Hood River but there is so much more to this incredible area! Time to explore! read more

A great winery in Mosier which is part of a 50+ acre farm. Very intimate and beautiful property. Our waitress Anne was fantastic! She gave such fun descriptions of the wines, was very knowledgeable of the wine making process, and happy to answer any of our questions. We ended up buying 3 bottles, yum! read more

This is a really cute place. The inside tasting room is really cute. It looks like all of the seating is outside or on the patio. Thankfully we were seated on one of the picnic tables in the green grass, others were in very tall dry grass off the road, a little awkward. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. The wines were okay, this is a smaller operation and your can tell they put a lot of care into there ones but some were just a little underdeveloped, especially in the nose. I liked the little details, pillows for comforts and blankets if it was on the cool side. There was no food served, so bring your own. I would say the parking is limited. They have five or six that can fit and then everyone else has to park on a fort road. We had a great time, this is a quaint friendly operation. I wish there was a 4.5 star option, this fell a little short from the 5 star, due to some of the wines, parking and awkward table set up. But, go here for knowledge, passionate, and warm staff. read more

Had a fantastic experience here last weekend. So many of the wineries in the Gorge have become ridiculously pretentious, with reservations required and obscene prices. Idiot's Grace requires no reservation, and the $20 tasting flight was outstanding - every one of the six wines, plus the bonus Piquette, was unique and memorable. The bottle prices are reasonable and you get a discount on your tasting. Highly recommended! read more

I was in a group of a few friends and children, and luckily we were welcome here and the kids had ample space to make noise without bothering any other patrons. (We also came in the morning so it wasn't crowded.) The staff were really friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed the wine, and the tasting was a reasonable price ($12.) I just received my shipment of the Late Spring 2020 tasting of 2016 Barbera and 2016 Primitivo. I have opened the primitivo. I have lived in Davis near Amador and Placer County zinfandels. This primativo reminded me of those big zins but it is better! It is more earthy. I smelled wet river stones and tasted rich, dark berries. This is the third shipment I have gotten from this winery, both before and after COVID-19. Idiot's Grace offers special boutique PNW wines that I can't find in my small mountain town in Southern California, and I am so impressed that they didn't miss a beat to deliver these amazing wines during these challenging times. We stopped in on a whim this summer and would definitely recommend you do the same. The tasting room was light and bright, the staff was friendly and informative, and the snacks were tasty. We always worry about our wine purchases after we get home; once we get them home, are they as good as when we tasted them at the winery? In the case, the answer is yes. We arrived on a day that was closed. A private event was happening, but the manager Trevor welcomed us. He was extremely accommodating and went out of his way to make sure our wine was filled and we had a great time. Great wines out here! Nice deck over the river, too. This would be a nice place to have a picnic while enjoying a bottle of their wine. Be sure to ask the owner about the history of Memaloose Island. Staff is friendly. The tasting room itself is a little sterile. Feels more like a gift shop than a cozy winery. Some warm, rich colored paint on the wall would do wonders. This would be a good starting point to taste on the Washington side while making your way back towards Hood River. read more

Been here a few times. Place used to have some great staff and a Cab Franc to match. Now one is "greeted" by a couple of pretentious bearded guys pushing a pretty hot (and not in the Good Way! Franc). The deck does offer a nice view but constant 20mph winds make difficult to partake. The inside has gone downhill and prices have gone up. I will forgo this stop for the two wineries, Sincline and Cor, up on the Old Highway 8 (I think?) as both their wine and ambiance seem to consistently improve with age! read more

A couple years ago we toured the wineries along the Columbia and I will admit that we drove right past this one. It sits right next to the highway, and just visually didn't appeal, so we skipped it. This year we didn't and I am so glad! The customer service here was outstanding. We were cheerfully welcomed when we entered and felt right at home. The staff told you the stories of the winery, and details about each wine. The staff asked us questions about ourselves and genuinely seamed interested in getting to know their customers. One of the staff had a foster dog in the winery learning to be around people and as a dog lover I was drawn to a place that would allow that. The wines were all really good. And compared to other wines of the same quality were really well priced... in my opinion. The tasting was waived with the bottle purchase and we were happy to take home a couple. The Whimsy may be my favorite. We won't ever just drive by again! read more

The first time I tried Memaloose wines was two years ago at their vineyard. Their property is so gorgeous, we had some friends visiting from Scottsdale and they loved the breathtaking views. Then I didn't buy any wines but I thought I would come back. Last year they were building their tasting room in Lyle. I stopped by to check it out, my hubby and the twins stayed in the car since we were in a hurry. They were still under construction, but the site was really nice, so I made it a point this year to come back. The finished tasting room is really beautiful, specially since you look out to the river from the balcony. I enjoyed their white blend and the Yorks Reward and I purchased a bottle of their Riesling. This is a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine and take in the fabulous views. read more

Nice wines, but when a customer drops a lot of hints about trying different wines not on the list, the wine pourer really should try to accommodate. If they don't have the authority to open stuff not on the list, they should be given it. I rarely buy a wine I have not tried unless I am blown away by other things there, and that was not the case. I wanted to try to Gamay Noir but no matter how many hints I dropped, they were not picked up on. That said, the wines we did try were very good and we always buy at the tasting room. read more
