Great Harvest Location. Good food and wine and extremely great service. And very dog friendly.

It's not often that every wine in a flight is delicious. (Only other place I know like this in the gorge is Wy'East Vineyards.) The new Chardonnay is the best I've had. Sadie Red also a standout. The view is just so beautiful and if get there with sun, as often happens out east, and no wind (not as often!) it's a slice of heaven. The indoor seating also features the view. The staff here is the friendliest you'll find and know their wines. You can bring a picnic, or they have some offerings. We brought food, so I can't comment on theirs, but it looked delicious. read more

We had such a nice time wine tasting here. Reggie took great care of us, answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable about their wines. We had the most wonderful experience tasting library wines at Jacob Williams on Saturday. We were in their barrel room tasting proprietor's red from the Columbia valley, years from 2016 2018 2021 and 2022 so fun! The staff was perfect, Regina is fun putting on our experience, always delightful. Peter the wine maker knows his stuff, he was very knowledgeable and told us about every vintage, it was nice to visit with him and ask questions. We then got to go in their new wine room that they just revealed for us with all their library wines that we got to taste and buy. We are members and love all their wines. read more

The service was beyond slow and they weren't busy. When you get a tasting and find yourself waiting around 20 minutes with empty taster glasses multiple times in a row it really ruins the experience. The charcuterie was really good, the wine was whatever at best. Won't be back. See zero reason to give it a second chance. If you can't keep up with three tables pre-pour the flight and leave it... Don't let people get bored enough to wander up to the counter with their glasses between pours. read more

Fabulous experience! If sipping wine in a serene setting with expansive views of the Columbia River and Mt. Hood is your thing, head to Jacob Williams Winery. Located at river level, the view is incredible. I recommend sitting outside on an Adirondack chair and just breath in the fresh air and take in the beauty around you. In the warmer weather the fresh flowers in planters add to the ambiance. Inside are several seating areas and the setting is casual and comfortable. Even the winery tuxedo cat, Rosé, is friendly. Without encouragement, she will pick a lap to jump on and cuddle. She is adorable! Service is phenomenal! Reggie is welcoming and extremely knowledgable, offering descriptions of the various wines in terms even a novice wine drinker can understand. No pretentiousness served here! Typically I drink red and I've always been hesitant to buy white after being told so many times that it doesn't age well. Reggie explained that while many reds take on more characteristics as they age, which is why some reds are best after holding a few years, whites don't need the aging, but they don't lose anything. Good to know! Truly I enjoyed so many of the wines, there weren't any that I didn't like. For the reds, I particularly liked the Sadie, a red blend from multiple vineyards, is the perfect everyday drinking wine. Plus I love the black lab on the label, reminding me of my friends black lab named Sadie. Their Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon were also full bodied, my preference, but I ended up buying a white! The Voignier was so crisp and refreshing and I will definitely enjoy it on a warm spring evening sitting outside. The drive is totally worth it! I love the beauty of the river in one side and the basalt cliffs on the other. The cliffs are lush and green in the spring then turn golden in the summer and burnt orange in the fall. There are several wineries in Underwood and Lyle so you can stop along the way, but save a chunk of time for Jacob Williams because the setting and wine are both spectacular. Came here on a Sunday after a long hike the weather was beautiful of course because it's summer right now they have a really cute patio behind the winery and the service was really good the woman did a great job explaining the different wines in helping us pick which ones we might like. Would definitely come back here again after a long hike in the area. Did not get to try any of the cheeses although they looked really good. read more

Absolutely feel in love with their Sauvignon Blanc (2017) at a wine tasting and made a special detour on a recent trip to stop by their tasting room. The tasting room is a little out of the way but well worth it. Quite a few people were there and I was able to get a discount immediately on the wine I was purchasing when I signed up for their club (which didn't go out until February). We can't wait to take friends out for wine (they also offered cheese plates which I wish I'd had time for). A great small operation with big flavors. Definitely a new favorite in Washington though I wish they had a location in Seattle, they do deliver for for VERY reasonable postage rates. read more

Charismatic and knowledgeable staff with fantastic wines to match! We stopped here because we had a Wine Passport that gave us free tastings so decided to give them a try. And boy, oh, boy were we incredibly impressed. From the views of the Columbia river with the cherry trees and hillsides in the background to the deliciously full-bodied reds and floral whites, this place is a gem. Not to mention it was super busy and the staff was friendly and chatted with us about not only the wine but the history of the winery itself which we found very interesting! This place is fantastic!!! We were a little skeptical on the drive from Government Camp as mountains gave way to forest gave way to the river gorge gave way to industry and arid dust. But this is a lovely little oasis with a lovely view of Mt. Hood and the river butte. The wine was terrific. Service was friendly as were the tasting room pets. Altogether a tremendously pleasant way to spend the afternoon. read more

First, let's talk about the smoked olives! Whoa. I've never tasted olives so incredibly delicious in my life! They could have sold me a gallon and it still wouldn't have been enough! All the wines on the tasting menu were lovely. Great flavors and balanced body. My personal favorite was the Syrah and with runner up being Sadie's Red. Absolutely fabulous in every way... The tasting room in McMinnville was quaint clean and inviting, it drew me in, Shantel is wonderful! JW is lucky to have her! I joined, not only because the wines were all delicious. My sister and I bought 9 bottles to take home to portland, seriously would have procured 1 of every blend had I not have limitations for carry on on my return flight. Needless to say, we basically drank them all before my return home. So looking to moving to McMinnville and making trips to my new found love Jacob Williams Winery tasting room. Jacob Williams is a hidden gem! Tucked away in the Gorge but honestly the best wine in the area. The crew is incredibly friendly, easy going and very welcoming to all! Their chardonnay is to die for. Most of their other wines were good, but I could easy go back and buy a case of their chardonnay (and I'm usually a cabernet sauvignon type of gal). The location was fantastic. Right on the water. The two ladies were knowledgable and friendly. They also explained the names that had been given to each of their wines. A lot of thought has gone into the making of each type they bottle. We wanted to take a bottle to our picnic and they uncorking one bottle and gave us a few plastic cups. A+ hospitality. read more

Across the river on the Washington side east of Lyle, this winery rocks! Scrumptious wines, amazing hospitality and a sweet spot right on the river with picnic tables. This is definitely a place you'll want to load up on any of their big reds (whites are great too). Kudos to Wine Club Manager Jenny Buckalew for her outstanding service in setting up a special tasting for my wine ed group - everyone loved, loved, loved the wines! Jacob Williams Winery. My wife and I live in Wishram (5 miles away) and we wondered if anybody else would show up for the release party and wine tasting today with the bad weather and closure of I-84 eastbound due to a rockslide west of Hood River. To our amazement, it was packed from when we got there and got even more packed as we stayed to sample four wines from the barrel introduced by winemaker John Haw who drew wine from the barrels as we watched: two Pinot Noirs 2012 and 2013, a Reserve Chardonnay 2012 and a Gewurtz 2013. My wife liked the 2013 Pinot and I liked them all. We are members of their wine club and I am still getting used to the idea that Wishram (I grew up in this historic railroad town in the dry end of the Gorge) has a winery of such exceptional quality. read more

The Wishram tasting room is always a fun excursion. The beautiful views of Mt. Hood, the picturesque Columbia River and the wonderful, friendly, attentive and sincere staff at the tasting room are special treats. Most people we know haven't heard of JW becasue of the somewhat remote location, but the wines are excellent. The new tasting room in McMInnville should help with name recognition. Hopefully, the wines and service will continue as the winery becomes more well known. Two favorites (amongst many others) are the Rose of Cabernet Franc, which is a lovely summertime pour, and the Sauvignon Blanc, which is crisp and flavorful. The Reserve Cabernets are some of the best Washington reds we have had. Disclaimer - we are wine club members, so a bit biased, but the first time we visited, we were so impressed by the wines and had to join up - we have no regrets about that decision. read more

Had a great time here on June 8th. Love the location (amazing view), the wine was very nice, and there is a laid-back vibe with a house cat in attendance. The young lady who served us was very friendly, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Would have given 5 stars, but I bought a Groupon (which popped up when I looked at reviews here) and the winery charged $24 for two tastings, even though they were included in the Groupon. Wasn't going to haggle after a lovely experience. So, definitely go, just don't buy a Groupon for a tasting, because it won't save you any money! (It did give us $10 off a bottle of wine we bought, but the Groupon cost $10, so there was no point buying it, really.) read more
