We walked in and ended up, ordering the wine flight and sampled a few wines. We didn't like any of them enough to purchase. We came here for the bubbly spirits, but they were out. Service was a bit off putting and we didn't feel very welcomed. We ordered the charcuterie and it was so so--we got about a teaspoon of the fig jam and the cheddar cheese was so hard and dried that it was inedible We wouldn't come back The seat outside had very bad unfinished wood and I got a couple splinters in my leg when I slid into the booth area. read more

Quaint winery in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Sitting outside in the covered seating area, sipping wine while listening to the rain on a fall day was everything. Sunshine the cat kept us entertained and joined us on the couch by the fire. Known for French style Rhone wines, we tasted two then I opted for a glass of Fleur De Lyle, a cab syrah blend made with local grapes that had hints of cherry, caramel and cacao. nice to drink on its own or with a meal. Friends purchased a bottle of the Mourvèdre and Fleur De Lyle while I chose the Katydid, a bolder blend With a peppery back note. The ride to the winery is so beautiful and I enjoyed every minute of the scenery, the sun and rain dancing on the hills creating so many deviations of color within a single pallette. What wasn't there to not like? Fantastic wines, great conversations with the wine maker, and a cozy wine tasting room. This is the wonderful wine tasting experience you do not get when you just stick around town. Seriously, every wine we tasted was delicious and crafted with care. My partners and I loved each one of the taste offerings and walked away with several bottles. We are a red wine crowd and highly recommend any of their reds (how's that!). It is rare that you go to a winery and love all their offerings. We walked away with several bottles and a wonderful experience. Great tasting in a beautiful location! Good variety with some bubbles and orange wine too. They're getting a location in Lyle closer to the river soon which I'm so excited about - will be even easier to visit! Such a beautiful, quaint winery. Loved the wine flight and service was impeccable. We had the great fortune of having the wine owner's son join us and talk about life-wise human for 10 years old. Excellent winery--our new fave. We've been looking for place to call "home" as the place we love to hang with friends is in Gilroy, California. We love the "feel" of this great place, both inside and out. It was wonderful to cozy up inside on the super comfortable leather couch. Outside is pretty--several tables and a place to play pétanque. Kid friendly, dog friendly. Good wine--love that the vineyard is organic and a very small operation, all done by hand. Fave wines include Black Dot and their Viognier. $10 tastings, small selection of boards with delicious cheese, meat and olives. We were out hiking the Catherine Creek trail and the friend I was with recommended this place. We happened to catch decent weather going out there! I love family owned wineries that are out in the middle of nowhere! The wine was pretty good and reasonably priced and the cheese board was yummy as well. My favorite two wines were the Black Dot and Katydid. The whites were ok too. Nice people and I can totally see coming back here on a nice summer day!! Friendly tasting room with excellent Rhone varietal wines. You will likely see the winemaker on the property and possibly in the tasting room in his flip flops and with his wife and young children, along with a friendly tail wagging winery dog scouting around. The reds here are delicious and this and at nearby Syncline winery are both excellent finds and well worth a visit for that quintessential Columbia Gorge wine tasting experience. We stopped in last weekend on the recommendation from a server at another winery. Glad we did. This is a very relaxed place to taste and buy wine. The quality of the wine exceeded expectations. We joined the club, something we rarely do. These a very good quality wines sold at a very fair price. Further, the club costs are also very fair. This feels like a place that makes very good wine and are happy to share it with people who make the drive to their location. What a great find in the Gorge! Just over an hour away from the Portland/Vancouver area is this hidden gem. We happened upon it when one of the larger wineries in Lyle was overcrowded. We're so glad we stopped. They were pouring just outside the tasting room along with the regular offerings in the tasting room. They were very friendly! We loved the big reds and came home with a case of the Black Dot! read more

This is not a winery you want to pass up visiting if you are in the Gorge area. Especially if it is a nice summer or spring day, becasue the outside seating area is quite nice. The thing I love about this winery the most (other than the delicious wines) is that they have a fenced in dog playing area!! As a dog owner, I always love it when I find a place to visit that is pet friendly. They bring new meaning to pet friendly with the dog park. Another awesome bonus about this place.... they have their own Frisbee golf course right on the property! How cool is that? My favorite wine of theirs is hands down the Katydid. It is a stunning red blend that leaves your mouth feeling like the fourth of July. I knew the moment I had the first taste that I would not be leaving without a bottle in hand. I saved the bottle for several months waiting for a special occasion to drink it. That's how much I loved it (becasue I have a hard time saving wine). The entrance is well marked, but you do drive out a ways to get to it. Don't worry if you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere (because you are), if you don;t seethe entrance it is becasue you haven't gone far enough. Don;t turn around - you'll regret it. This winery is worth the drive. read more

Stopped in on Sunday for a wine tasting.....everything was good and very reasonably priced. The wines were well balanced and easy to drink. The service was good without being intrusive. We sat outside and enjoyed our tasting. Once we were done with that, we bought a bottle of their Rose and had a little picnic with cheese, crackers and pate we brought with us. Great start to our time in the Gorge. They have a two bottle a year wine club which is a great idea. We signed up for that and look forward to receiving our "souvenirs" in February. read more

Ahhh. Ahhh. Ahhhh. I can't even describe the wonders of Domaine Pouillon. From the knowledgable staff who speaks just to you, the owners always on site, the stunning views on the winding roads to their tasting room, to the outstanding wines - everything about this place is phenomenal. Their Savoy Faire is one of my all time favorite whites. Bought a bottle and sat with the in-laws outside on a lovely picnic bench with propane heaters in med-Feb. Of course the sun was shining because it's the east side of the Gorge. Had lunch, watched the dog play, drank amazing wine. What more can someone want? The drive is very worthwhile. After all, isn't the scenery part of the draw to the Gorge? These people are a little gem at the end of the trail. Definitely going back again and again. read more

I had tried to visit this place twice in the past but had been given poor directions. Thankfully the nice owner of Memaloose east of here provided spot on directions. We visited during the Columbia Gorge Wine Growers Passport weekend. I was happy to walk into the winery and see a few other friends. This winery has some of the friendliest staff I have encountered at any winery in the area. I left feeling like I had made some new friends and I wasn't even drunk! Pours were generous, owners on hand greeting people and happy to talk about their winery, wines and future plans for a new location for their tasting room. Yes, they will be opening up a new tasting room with better views in the not to distant future. Happily sucked into another wine club membership, which means I will be dropping one across the river. The one very popular one across the river doesn't even allow one friend to taste for free and you have to sell your first born to pay for one of their club member exclusive dinners. DPW has 3 pickups a year and for each of those pickups, they do a complimentary casual picnic style dinner for their members and free tastings for members and a couple of friends, I think. Plus the wines at DPW are much better than the winery I am dropping across the river. read more

The young man behind the bard yesterday was funny and friendly and we liked that they provided little nibbles of cheese and crackers to help cleanse the palate in between tastes. This is definitely one of my happy places. I can't help but get a big goofy smile every time I come here - whether we sit outside and take in the gorgeous scenery or sit inside and feel like we transported to France, this place is GREAT! And the best part is their wine is freaking DELICIOUS. Some of the best wine I've had in this region. It's a bit of a trek to get here, but it's 100% worth it. I finally decided to join their wine club last time I visited. When you join, you get Grand Cru tastings and a free chase plate with every visit...! Don't need much more to please this girl. My wife and I decided to catch one winery in the central Gorge after a couple of days in Hood River, and this was our choice; we'd had two of their wines off restaurant wine lists previously. Outstanding blends, both white and red, and their dry Gewurtztraminer was as good as any I've had in the northwest! It's very clear that Alexis' training at Chateau de Beaucastel gave him the skill to produce these beautiful Rhone-style blends; I look forward to future releases as they become available, as well as the beautiful drive to the winery to pickup wine club shipments. Our favorite winery, hands down. We got there at 7p.m., left at 9p.m., and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We had a delicious salad with house smoked, locally harvested salmon, duck, and pie with cherries inside, all catered by Normas in Hood River. The wine severed was way above par for other local winery's. I have to say my favorite beverage of the night was the fortified wine, AKA porter. read more

Wow! You MUST try Domaine Pouillon. Alexis, Juliet, and T-Bone (the precious dog) run a fabulous operation. The wines are divine (we love their Cabernet, their white blends...and their "Black Dot"...which is a red blend.) I recommend joining their wine club...even a 2 bottle a season wine club will save you dollars...and give you a great reason to come back. It's a small commitment...with a super "up-side." In addition, they can really cook! Periodically, wine club members are invited to amazing dinners (free...with unlimited fantastic wines...request for donation only). They have excellent wine pairings...in an absolutely breathtaking environment (think beautiful hillsides, rushing rivers, etc.). Check out DP. Join their club. You won't be disappointed. read more

Absolutely gorgeous new tasting room with killer views of the surrounding hills. All of the wines are highly recommended, but especially the rose, which is one of the best I've ever tasted. This gem is a must for Washington wine lovers. If you are traveling to or from Portland and the Oregon coast's best beaches you won't regret the detour. I first came here in May, and accidently stumbled on their special barrel tasting of some of their wines. All the wines were so superb (even just being sucked out of a barrel), that I actually decided to join their wine club. Yes, it is off the beaten track (but only an hour from Portland), but gorgeous drive there, to a place where you will feel comfortable. This is our favorite Washington Winery without a doubt, and hands down some of the best Rhone Varietal wines we've had that are produced domestically. The winemakers' prior experience at Beaucastel couldn't be more evident in the quality of each and every one of their wines! I especially appreciate their focus and desire to keeping case production moderate (3000 or so total cases for all of the wines they produce currently) in order to make wines with character and distinction and avoid having wines that just feel like products (which is something most wineries succumb too given market pressure). In addition to that, Kyle and the tasting room staff have always offered us exemplary service each and every time we've visited. It always feels like catching up with longtime friends. This is and no doubt will continue to remain our go to winery both for the wines, people, and lovely ambiance of the surroundings (on the right day there is even a Le Mistral like wind rolling through). 5 stars has never been an easier rating. I have known Alexis for over twenty years and I have watched him, slowly but surely, realize his dream of being a vigernon: from the early dreaming years, to the Soil Science studies at Cal Poly SLO, to the internship at Chateau Beaucastel in Provence, France, to choosing a wonderful spot in the Columbia Gorge to stake his claim, Alexis, now teamed up with his awesome wife, Juliet, have really made an impressive winery. All this and they can cook too! Alexis's mom is a professional chef, owns two award-winning restaurants in D.C. and her talents clearly rubbed off on Alexis. I HIGHLY recommend visiting DPW and, given their reasonably-priced wines, becoming a member of the wine club (as I am) is easy, affordable, and allows me to enjoy their wines without ever leaving San Francisco. This is an absolutely outstanding winery that is destined to gain much broader recognition and award. Alexis and Juliet are producing some of the few -- and the best -- blends in the Pacific Northwest, which requires great skill and understanding the attributes of the grapes as they change from year to year.
