Upside down, inside out, right side up - any way you turn it, this wine is fantastic!!! A friend who is a wine club member has been raving about their wine for years, and I finally stopped in for a tasting flight. Every single wine in the flight was good, which is rare. My absolute favorite was the Mourvèdre, a serious red with dark fruit and notes of spice. Complex, yet easily drinkable. Their Mourvèdre blend was also a standout. Upside down Wine is located right on Oak, the main street in Hood River and located right next to the clothing store, Parts and Labour. The name is very subtle over the door so if you aren't intending to go here, you most likely will walk right by. Don't! The very stark, modern interior, which feels a bit sterile, comes alive with warmth from the friendly service and the chatter and laughter of other patrons. You can stand along the long bar, European style, or sit at a high top for two or in comfy chairs in the back. Now that I've had the opportunity to visit the wineries in Hood River and the Gorge multiple times, previous faves no longer hold a candle to some of my new favorites. Could be that my palette has become more refined, who knows? I just know that my top 5 list contains none of my original choices and Upside Down wine is now in the list! read more

Incredibly pleased we found this vineyard. We traveled all over the Hood River Valley and tasted many lovely wines, but this one hit a home run by leaps and bounds, in all three of our opinions. I belong to a couple of vineyards in the Dundee area, a couple wine bars in Portland and have tasted from here to Temecula, but I seldom go through every single wine loving each equal or more; I generally like one or so and the rest are meh. A shout out and even MORE of a reason to stop and support them, is a percentage of their proceeds go to non-profits. There are several, but two that stuck out were a humane society as well as a stop human trafficking organization. The wine maker and I believe owner or part owner was in today and was so passionate about the wine, extremely knowledgeable and kind to us. Don't miss this tasting room on your adventures. PS - Prices that everyone can afford, instead of leaving bummed you didn't get a bottle worth a weeks groceries. read more

Beautiful and modern space with tasty wine. We did a day trip to Hood River and this was a fun activity. They do a $15 tasting waived with a purchase of a bottle. So we went that route. Tastes their wines and got a bottle of the one we enjoyed the most. The guy who helped us was very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. read more

Went there on a busy weekend. The wine is so good. I truly enjoyed the space, it was simple yet relaxing. The owner knew so much bout wine and made us super excited to know more. He told us about the processing of choosing the grapes and how much work is put into each bottle. Another plus for me is that all bottles sold have a donation attached to them. Not only unique in its modernistic black and white décor - think Swedish - the wines are absolutely phenomenal. What do you do when you love everything on the flight? Beg, borrow or steal, but take them home with you! Operations Manager Cassidy Lawrence is a real asset and very knowledgeable about the wines. This is my favorite winery in the gorge. Their Nebbiolo Rosé is to die for as well as their GSM and Rhône blends (although all the wine is delicious). With Washington grapes, they have some different varietals to offer than what you usually see in the area. The tasting room staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, you can tell that they genuinely care about the wines. The tasting room is super cute with minimalist vibes, not to mention the place is dog friendly!! I would definitely make this a stop on your Hood River wine tasting list and consider joining their wine club! Don't forget to bring your four legged friends with you. read more

If you're going to charge $15 for a taste, your wine had better be really freaking good. This winery does charge $15 for their tasting, and well, their wine is really freaking good. At least the reds were - they had one rose, which was kind flabby. The rest here were reds and fantastic - their GSMs were both excellent, and the cab we tried was absolutely fantastic, a total of 7 wines (6 listed and one bonus they had open). They were also super friendly, and I loved the decoration on the wall depicting the journey of wine grapes into wine, but that doesn't matter unless the wine is fantastic, which it was. I'd pop in again if I were back in the area, which is something I don't say super often of places that have $15 tasting fees. (Just sad the wine we liked the best here was also the most expensive one, as they do waive the fee with a purchase, but it would still have been expensive even with the "discount".) read more

This is hands down my favorite winery in Hood River! Their tasting room is clean and modern. I buy their magnum bottles of rosé on the reg...you should while you can, their rosé goes fast! Came in on a Tuesday and it was just such a respite from the busy, buzzy vine so many tasting rooms are getting. Our pourer was enthusiastic, well versed and very accommodating. like others have reported, I don't see how anyone can leave with the rose. it was between paydays or I would have gotten more than 2. those bottles are going to evaporate at summer picnics. My husband and I stumbled into the upside down after riding into town and were immediately impressed with the charm of this tasting room. The husband and wife owner team immediately greeted us with smiles and were quick to quench our pallets. The Rose here is incredible as is their GSM and Syrah. I would highly recommend stopping by here for a tasting while you're in town to not only learn a little bit more about the wine making process but for a more relaxed hospitality. One of my favorite tasting rooms in downtown Hood River. Has a comfortable yet slight contemporary feel. One of the best rose' in the Gorge. All of their wines are delicious but especially the "GSM" blend (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre), which is one of my favorites. A portion of their proceeds go to non-profits which is pretty cool too.
