Locaged in Mosier, I didn't realize that there were vineyards in and fruit orchards here, having always stopped in Hood River and Parkdale, never venturing further west. But just five miles past Hood River, the charming town of Mosier with its incredible vistas, trails, vineyards and orchards exists and can stand in its own. Smaller, quaint and even more charming and laid back than its much larger neighbor. The outdoor area here is beautiful with incredible river views and in the other direction, Mt. Hood. There is a covered area outdoors and seating on the lawn for those craving sun. All precautions were taken during Covid to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience. The wines are delicious! Rich, dark, bigger - reminding me of Zins. My preference is for the bigger and bolder reds so I was very happy with the wines I tasted. If you buy a bottle, the tasting fees are waived, and I was happy to buy a few to enjoy back home. The Cab Franc was my favorite and I also enjoyed the Syrah/Grenache blend. The staff happily educated me on the wines while asking me about my preferences to find a match. They shared the history of the surrounding area and the original inhabitants. Nearby Memaloose island was a burial sight for the Indian tribes that lived in this region, who did not bury the dead but created vaults on the island. This was the first time I tried Memaloose wines and I'm so glad I did! I'll definitely stop here again and next time plan on driving on into Washington to try the wines there. I realized that the beauty and good wines just starts in Hood River but there is so much more to this incredible area! Time to explore!

What a charming setting to taste and enjoy some delicious wine! Located on the prairie in Mosier,…read moreDouble Strand is a welcomed addition to this tiny town of 430 residents, bringing the number of wineries to four. Grapes and fruit are sourced locally from the nearby vineyards and orchards in Mosier and The Dalles they offer several varietals. Known for their unique dessert wines made with fruit or honey in addition to grapes, you can do a tasting flight for just $15. They also offer flights of their white, red or a combination of Both. 6 1 oz pours for $15. Since I prefer reds, they happily accommodated my request to do a 2 oz pour of three of the reds - Pinot, Merlot and a red blend. While typically I prefer the red blends because they are bigger and bolder, their blend was lighter like a Pinot. Still young, it should become more full bodied as it ages. Not typically a fan of Pinot, I absolutely loved theirs! Same with the Merlot. Both were bolder and complex, delicious right out of the bottle. I purchased the Merlot ($35) and they waived the $15 tasting fee. The grounds and tasting room are lovely. So much care went into the design and layout. Inside, it's all wood with windows looking out to the prairie, giving you a sense of oneness with nature. The large live edge wooden table with an apoxy "Columbia River" down the middle is both beautiful and functional for groups. There are several small rooms and intimate seating areas with various table and chair set ups throughout. The outdoor space is equally beautiful. Sit amongst the birch trees that provide shade. Or out on the deck. Either way, Spooky, the black winery cat will greet you. The owners and all who work here are super friendly and gracious, fits right in with the small town charm of Mosier. I'm looking forward to spending many leisurely Saturdays and Sundays here, as they are only open weekends, 12-5. Mosier is one exit past Hood River, and with Double Strand, Garnier, Idiot's Grace and Analema tasting rooms - plus Runcible Cider and several u-pic cherry farms, the gorgeous Rowena Crest and Tom McCall Plateau for hiking, Roanoke Coffee and MoCo for dinner, plus three food trucks downtown, it's a worthy destination.

There…read moreare several seating areas: a large patio surrounding a garden of native plants with chairs and couches around the perimeter; Adirondack chairs near the vineyard overlooking the grasses and hills; indoors next to a fireplace with sweeping views of the property; and even private tents up on the hill. We were thrilled to be there on one of the first sunny days in a very rainy 2022 Spring, so we sat on the sunny patio with the bright blue skies and native plants as the backdrop. We were greeted with a glass of Cab Franc Rose, which I had never had before, and we both really enjoyed it. We selected the flight since it was our first time having COR wine and we wanted a variety. The flight arrives in a tin bucket with individual carafes of each pour. There were four plus a complimentary pour, so three whites and two reds. Of the whites, the Cab Fran Rose remained my fave and I also enjoyed the Pinot Gris which was crisp and light. I'm a fan of big, bold reds but because of the sun, the red wines got so hot that we couldn't drink them which was really unfortunate. They did include a small bag of ice in the bucket to keep the wines cool but it was no match for the sun. Next time, even if I am tempted by the sun, I will select a seating area in the shade so we can enjoy all of the wines in the tasting. To round out our experience, we ordered the charcuterie for $35. COR continues to be very careful with Covid protocols so the charcuterie is a kit that you put together. Olympic Provisions salami, a box of hearty crackers, Marcona almonds and casteveltrano olives in mason jars, and a soft cheese were provided; all delicious. Service was warm and friendly, they answered our questions thoroughly. Some customers like to have the staff pour each taste and explain the wine; at COR you pour your own and info on the wines is provided on a card. I prefer it this way so I can drink at my speed and our conversation isn't continuously interrupted with a description of the next wine. Everyone has their own preference but this style works for me. Will definitely be back!
