Good food and good ambiance. Wait is always long so be prepared to wait or sit at the bar (if it is available at all). The food is well executed and there are multiple choices on the menu for all tastes. The burger wasn't that great but the pasta and the short ribs were really good. The banana dessert is a must. I managed to get a reservation for the first week of the new sycamore. It was spectacular! So many nice touches. It looks stunning inside -- I'd go for the ambience alone. I had the carrots, focaccia, muscles, and the village salad. My date had the fish. We enjoyed the entire meal thoroughly. It's nice to find a restaurant that is really forging ahead with well balanced, contemporary dishes that are somehow comforting. There's a real warmth to the entire experience. We dined here on NYE. Absolutely no complaints on the service, food and drinks - they were all excellent and no bad choices here. Part of The Sycamore's charm is its intimate size, its a small space which is typical in German Village. However, it felt a little cramped and the lighting was too bright for dinner for my taste. We've been here for both dinner and breakfast. The new atmosphere is wonderful. Casual yet upscale. The service is super friendly. Highly recommend if you're in the German Village area! For dinner, we had the birria and the sea bass. Both were delicious. A friend said their burger was one of the best they've ever had. For breakfast, their egg sandwich and omelette are delicious. Before this weekend I hadn't been here in four years. Our waiter was very friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend got two appetizers as his entree -- the clam chowder and Brussel Sprouts. Both were hearty enough. And the Brussels had a unique flavor! I ordered the Birria. The meat was tender, flavorful and had the right level of spice. Many of the pieces were really fatty tho. The tortilla was used to sop up that extra sauce - yum! However, I didn't think it was a complete meal. It could've used a vegetable on the side because it was only served with a few pieces of tortilla, in addition to lime, cilantro and onion. I have been at Sycamore twice. The first time service was a 5, the second time it was a 2 so I guess is a hit and miss situation for the service which is unfortunate and truly not sure of why service would be bad as this is a small restaurant and they were packed and did have enough servers yet our server would leave and won't come back for a long period of time, we would run of drinks waiting. Other than that, the food is delicious and so are the drinks , the ambiance is also good and the restaurant is nice looking. I had the Scotland Backyard and a Cinnamon Toast Bruch Beer. My fiancée had the Danish Clover and the Sixth Street Gimlet. All were top notch cocktails, although her selections were the best of the two. Wonderful flavor profiles in the cocktails were intended to wow the pallet. Fresh herbs and fruits created a dynamic indulgence. So after reading that, you're probably wondering why the review is a 3/5. Again, I value service. In some of my reviews, you will notice that service has bumped up the overall review. In this case, it bumped it down. Without being too callous, our bartender was simply not friendly. Her overall dynamic was poor and the way she made both of us feel was nothing short of offensive- almost like we were a chore to serve and not "elite" enough for her liking. The place had very little patrons at the time, and I understand that folks have bad days, but to feel like we didn't belong, when we were not picky, didn't not cause her headaches, minded our own business, and spent $50 on 4 drinks is not the way patrons should feel when leaving a restaurant. We were dressed nicely, exceptionally above the folks in T-shirts and flip flops. I couldn't understand what the deal was. We were two steps down the sidewalk and my fiancée asked why they were so nasty. I echoed her sentiment. The charcuterie appetizer was awesome - definitely one of the better ones I have had in awhile. The small size was large and could be shared easily among 3 people. There was a blueberry goat cheese, meats, other cheeses, pickles, a jam and toast points. The offerings were many - about a dozen different things. The flavors in the Rosemary Lemon Chicken were excellent. I loved the mix of the redskin potatoes and artichoke hearts and roasted red peppers. The chicken was mostly good. The dish came with two pieces of chicken one of which was a leg which I found mostly inedible. The other piece though had a lot of white meat on it which cut easily away from the bone. The entree was served with a large bowl of creamed corn which I ate as a soup. It was too runny to spoon next to the chicken as a side especially since the sauce accompanying the chicken was liquidly as well. Service was nicely paced, but the kitchen was quick when orders were finally placed. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, but with nice restored touches like the tin ceiling. Usually love a visit to the sycamore. Last night was not on point. My old fashioned was incredibly weak. Tasted mostly like melted ice. All three of our entrees were too salty to eat. Not just over seasoned but just bad. To theoretically credit the server sent the manager over and the took the entrees off the bill. Our server brought the bill shortly after we had issue with our entrees. We were surprised he didn't ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. So after telling home we'd like dessert we ordered their pie but that didn't have ice cream??? Overall atmosphere was spot on as usual and Ben our server was great. But we walked away super disappointed in our meals even thought they did the right thing with apologies and removing from our bill. read more

This is one of my favorite treats to myself. I love the location of this spot. It reminds me of one of those restaurants that you find in a alley way type area in Paris or San Juan with the cobble stone streets and homes in close proximity. The inside of the spot has like a elegant divey type of feel to it. The set is interesting because the structure of the restaurant is pretty long and narrow. It has a rustic elegance but when you go to the bathroom, it's like a totally different world in there. My GAWD I can write a review just on the bathroom alone. But I digress let's talk about the food. Depending on the day you go. You could be in for a long wait to get a table as well as to be served. Once you are served though, the staff is really pleasant. My go to at this spot is the LOBSTER ROLL! JEVUS CRIS! If you go here definitely try this dish unless you are allergic then don't. The lobster tastes as though it was flow in fresh from Maine. The Sycamore Club was an old man bar where my grandfather used to hang out. With the renovation and overhaul it's become much more hip and modern -- in a good way. The menu has quite a bit of variety and everything I've had so far (3 or 4 visits I think?) has been great. Even if you've only stopped by for cocktails I highly recommend the focaccia, it's quite good. The staff is also excellent -- knowledgeable, pleasant, and attentive. Reservations seem to be more necessary as the place continues to grow in popularity, and though it makes me happy to see them doing well I think I liked it better when I could just walk in and be sat immediately with no wait. I love this place. I came here for a birthday celebration. My order: - Bottle of wine: the bottle of Pinot noir we ordered wasn't available, so our waitress found us a similar bottle at the same price point. Lovely. - Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich: This looked and tasted amazing. The chicken itself isn't very hot. However, the pickled-relish type topping made the sandwich hot. So you can remove it if you don't like spice. The chicken had a nice sauce. Also, the fries were homemade and tasted wonderful. It came with some type of aioli. But I used ketchup. -Chocolate Silk Pie** ***Come here for the desserts!!!! This is quite honestly the best piece of chocolate cake I have ever gotten at a restaurant. It comes with a huge portion of whipped cream. The crust has an extremely slight Oreo taste, and the chocolate pie is incredible. We also got the special which was some type of flank steak with seared vegetables. The vegetables had almost a tangy flavor and were an excellent choice. The Banana tartlet was very large- Could definitely be split. (I would never split the chocolate silk pie because it is too delicious, I would never be willing to share with someone.) I will definitely be returning just for wine and desserts. Pro tip: Make a reservation! It is a very small restaurant with a small patio. If you don't have a reservation, you can sit at the bar or the "community table", which tops has maybe 9 seats. You will be waiting a very long time on a busy night. I've been here a couple times with coworkers and have had a great experience every time! The Sycamore is a relatively small restaurant but we usually can get a table for our group of 8 if we call that day to get a reservation. I've only been here during the week so it's likely more crowded during the weekend. The service has always been excellent and the food is even better. There are some very unique dishes and my favorite is the ahi tuna with wasabi mashed beets. I also love their appetizers- they have a great charcuterie board and pancetta wrapped dates that are delicious! I highly recommend stopping by the Sycamore next time you're in Columbus! read more

The service was great and so were the fries. However fir the prices we paid I would expect much better food. The Pork Tenderloin was overcooked and dry. The mashed potatoes were bland and the drinks were not that great either. Daughter was not happy with the bass or the ravioli. The deviled eggs were ok but I'm not a fan of sour cream mixed in. And to top it all off they were out of the shrimp appetizer. Dont think we will go back. Hopefully your experience is better than ours. read more

I've been in the Brewery district it was a wonder that I have never been to the Sycamore. So we set this place as the host for a date night. When you walk in, you will notice that it is small but a very nice setting. It's kind of dim inside, at least at night time. But there are a couple tables and a bar you can sit at as well. We got set at the back luckily, where it's more secluded and not as much foot traffic or noise from neighbors having their own conversation. Their menu looks really good. I think there is something for everyone here. But what we settled on was the Charcuterie plate, Wedge Salad, The Scallops w/Risotto, and the Lobster Mac and Cheese. The cheese board was really good, and I dare say one of the best ones I've had at a restaurant. If you love them then this is a must have when you go. The salad was a lot bigger than expected. This can easily be shared. But it was good none the less as well. Right amount of dressing, even though I ordered extra just in case. The scallops were really nice. Cooked very well and had that nice texture and not to chewy from overcooking. They risotto was rich, creamy and flavorful. Everything in the dish came together nicely. The creamy and richness of the risotto and the sweetness, and freshness of the lobster and scallops all combined to make a very well put together dish. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was also on par with the Scallop dish. It had a little spice which was nice. They heat with the creaminess and sweetness of the lobster was really great. In my opinion I liked this dish a little more than the Scallop dish. But not by much at all. The service was kind of slow. This was the biggest disappointment. We got there and were served our first entrée after a couple that was seated about 5 min after us. And let me remind you that we got a salad and cheese board. So there really isn't any cooking, just preparation. So I believe the order might have been put in late. But I'm not too sure how that works in a restaurant so I can't say for sure or definitively. Also when we did get served it was about 20-30 min after we ordered. I would think that this was a onetime occurrence however. I doubt it would be this slow on a day to day basis. Overall the Sycamore was pretty solid. You won't be disappointed in terms of food quality. Their food is spot on and in terms of what I had, it can stand up to almost any other of the great restaurants in German Village. I'd say definitely check it out if you have never been. I'm sure you will be happy with what you are getting served. read more

First time at The Sycamore. My mother in law and sister in law rave about this place! The interior is cute. I can see it as a nice neighborhood bar. Our table wasn't the best. It was tucked in the corner, by the stairs and the bathroom. Not very scenic and hard to get in and out. Service was good. We started with the bacon wrapped dates (delicious) and chicken wings. The chicken wings were not good. They were grilled, but tasted charred and burnt. No flavor just a blue cheese dipping sauce. My husband had the soup of the day- a butternut puree, which he thought was OK. I had the beet salad, which was good. We shared the pork that came with a side of Brussels and potatoes. The plate was too tiny and very hard to cut the pork because of this. Something about the dish wasn't too appealing. Maybe too much sauce on the Brussels and potatoes. Not enough on the pork? We also had the burger, which the fries were delicious, but my husband didn't care for the burger- again Iike the chicken wings too burnt. Overall, I would not care to return. read more

A hidden gem of Columbus. Went here for a friend's birthday, and had an amazing experience. The space is small, but we easily got a reservation. The decorations are beautiful and well curated, creating a cozy atmosphere. We shared a delicious cheese board follow by our mains. I had a seasonal short rib with a beet purée and some vegetables- it was more than fantastic. To finish of we had a drink or two and a slice of home made pecan pie. I had the beef cheeks, which were just OK. more fries and bread than beef, but the taste was great. I think the only issue I had was the uncomfortable seating. There were 2 of us in what was supposed to be a 4 person booth, but I could NOT imagine 4 people sitting there. The two of us had to straddle the table poles and not sit right across from each other.
