If you want anything computer or audio/visual related, this hands down the best place to go in Tucson. They always have plenty of staff on hand so you don't have to wait for answers to your questions. The staff is super knowledgeable and they will get you exactly what you need. I really appreciate that in my 20+ trips to SWS, I have never had them try to sell me into something that was more expensive that what I really needed. And what is most surprising, is not only are they competitive on prices, a lot of times they are actually less expensive than Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc... Friendly, knowledgeable & honest staff with prices at or below their bigger national competitors? All the more reason to support a great local business! read more

SWS is what all electronic stores should be like. I am from California, so my entire life I shopped at larger electronic stores (*cough* Frys *cough*). I thought that while the customer service at those stores was lacking, the selection and price could not be beat. I was very wrong. I needed a new hard drive. The person told me I am not using a third of the terabit hard drive I had and suggested I get a smaller CHEAPER one. Who does that. This is the place to go for all my computer needs. Staff was helpful, but it was confusing getting the Yelp Deal, and I was kind sad that I couldn't combine the Yelp Deal and the Check-In Deal. In the end, we worked something out, but aside from the confusion there, they have anything computer related I could fathom needing, and prices were fair. They're local, they're central. You walk in the door and ask for help- they give you help, quickly. I end up there probably once a month and whether I'm spending $5 for a cable (what I needed yesterday) , $100 for a router or $1,500 for computer, they're ready to help. Sure I could save a couple of bucks buying on line, but the money stays here in Tucson and it's a real person to talk with face-to-face. What's that worth? LOTS! SWS had been highly recommended to me by two tech-savvy friends, including one who used to work on IBM mainframes. So when my current computer died and I decided to replace it, I went to SWS. This store may well be the best computer shop in Tucson, but the employees only "speak geek." They can't communicate with those who aren't as fluent in geek speak. I'm not saying don't patronize SWS, but if you are NOT very tech-savvy and need solid advice based on specific needs, this is not the place to go to purchase a system. (One employee didn't know what Word was. Kept telling me their system has its own wp program. I explained my publisher insists on Word. I asked if their program could do tracking changes in the margin. He had no clue what I was talking about. So not only were we not on the same page, we weren't even in the same textbook.) One of my tech friends later said I probably should have gone to Best Buy or somewhere where the employees are accustomed to talking with "normal" people. So, again, not saying don't go there, just not a good place for people not very tech-savvy. read more

Very disappointed in this business. have spent literally tens of thousands there over the past years, yet they refused to return, or exchange an item I purchased (which they knew I had purchased as I am in the store quite often) when I could not produce the receipt. A universal charger costed $35 but it turns out my charger was working after all and if it wasn't for the tech double checking, I probably would have thrown away a perfectly fine charger and spent another $35. these guys can be irritating at times with their overwhelming spew of tech specs. i go in once in a while to see what is new but have not purchased from there in a very long time. last visit the store seems to have turned into a somewhat recycling center for old equipment which tells me they are not far from saying GOODBYE. the thing i find strange is they sell USED pc's that are nearing end of life for an absurd amount of money. these machines can not be upgraded and many will soon no longer be supported with windows 10 as the hardware support from microsoft runs out. to the owner: why did you let it get to this point?? you used to have the best stuff locally and even hard to find stuff. now you are a mere junk store with overpriced merchandise. get it together before you end up like the rest of the businesses in tucson with shuttered doors. read more

Bottom line: this place is exactly like a car dealership they know you dont have the knowledge, time, or motivation to do it yourself. And when it comes to parts and service they are 1000000000 times better than best buy (so you can only guess my opinion of them) I feel I have a love hate relationship with this place. On one hand I am happy a place like this exists in Tucson. On the other hand I dont feel like anybody in that store has my best interests at heart. There are 2 reasons I go here. If I am building something weird and I need a small fan, power supply or am just grasping at straws I will go here. The other reason I go here is the wheels just came off a computer and I need a part to fix it now. The problem is this place is but a tiny spec on the computer parts radar and they must have wholesale costs similar to what I can buy my self on the internet. So then you would say, well they must have a great staff and excellent customer service,... well no. No one there can really think out side the box and are little more than used car salesmen. I am usually trying to fix or build something that is well out side of normal and they can NEVER keep up. On the small chance I do ask for advice or suggestions they jump right to the UPSELL mode. In fact I have never been there when didnt hear a staff member trying to upsell some one or a staff member trying to upsell me. To them YOU ALWAYS NEED the biggest most expensive part/tool/computer/service that they offer. Furthermore they are good at too, they usually win. I have an axiom in life that I live by there are two types of people who win negotiations The patient, and the well informed/prepared Shopping is just a very one sided negotiation the seller says here is my offer and thats it... usually. If you are coming here remember Do your homework before purchasing anything (informed/prepared), and remember newegg only takes 2-4 days to get you the parts at 60% or less of the cost of this place (patient). I should point out I have been shopping here since 1999 and will for the foreseeable future, but I am not exactly excited by that thought. Watch out for these guys. I was encouraged to buy a product that they assured me would fix my network problem. I was assured that I would be able to return it if it did not work. When I came in to return the item several days later, I was charged a 5% "restocking fee". They said that the item was "scratched". There is no way it was scratched while sitting on my counter for 5 days. They claimed it had a plastic protective cover when I bought it, but it did not have that. I wouldn't trust them. I think they sold me a used item and then charged me 5%. Be careful. read more

Computer monitor acting up so I bought a new video card thinking that should fix it. New card seemed to make it worse. OK took the machine into SWS for the $50 diag. Was told the NEW video card was bad but would not take the bad card back or refund the diag fee. Review: sold me a bad video card, charged me $50 to tell me the new video card was bad and refused to replace the bad card. read more

This computer repair store has the WORST customer services. First they said the repair will take 5 to 7 business days...it took them two weeks to even get back to me with the issue. Then they said "we are unable to get the part from our distributor so we can't repair it at this time." Take your computer repairs somewhere else to save both time and money. read more

I've been in the store a dozen times over the past few years buying cables, memory upgrades, computer repairs and sometimes just to look around. Never met one staff person who wasn't helpful and courteous and directed me to what I needed without overselling. SWS is not particularly close to my house, but I wouldn't think of shopping elsewhere. I'm sure I could save a buck going online for some part but with the large SWS inventory, I can get what I need and be home in an hour or so. No online venue delivers that fast. Newegg has much better prices, but if you need something small like a heatsink or case fan, it's not a bad place to pick up a few things. I went in needing to get some answers (and potentially service) regarding malware and viruses on my relatively new, and very expensive laptop. Mike greeted me as soon as I walked through the door and took me over to the service department to talk. I explained my issues and the DIY measures I had already undertaken; Mike listened and then effectively communicated some possible reasons and solutions. While the ultimate resolution (for now) was some more DIY remedies, prescribed by Mike, I was extremely happy with my experience! I wasn't being sold something I didn't need or taken advantage of because I don't work for Google or Apple and they saw a "live one". After this experience I will stop at SWS first for all computer needs as they earned any future business based on their great employee, Mike. read more

I had the best experience I have ever had at a computer store today at SWS Computers. I just needed a small part, a connector between a mini-USB and a USB for my speakers. They didn't try to sell me anything but what I needed. I explained what I was looking for and a young man took me to a wall where the part was located. He then opened the part to make sure it not only would connect with my speaker (which I brought along) but then hooked it up to a computer in the store to make sure all the parts were working. We're talking about a $3.50 part, and he was so helpful and took his time. When I need a new computer or anything else computer-related, I will start at SWS Computers. Always helpful and knowledgeable. They have reasonable procedures in place to protect themselves from fraud and stolen credit cards and I do not find those practices to be unreasonable. It's so much better than the big box stores who often really aren't very much aware of the features in their products. SWS guys do know. I just bought a motherboard from these people on 11/8/17. And found out that the chip I was going to fit with that board wasn't going to work out. So I took the board back to see if I can get a different one. Waited about 30mins for them to open, finally they opened and I asked the girl working the register if I can exchange boards. She went to talk to the manager. Came back, said that I couldn't exchange the board with cash back from the remaining balance, and said it would be "store credit". First off, I don't think it's fair to make a person not get his/her balance back when clearly it states on the receipt "15 days return, 30 days exchange" it's the 13th for heaven sake. It's only been 6 days! Then after asking to speak with the manager, she said she would talk to the manager. I wanted to talk with the manager. So she does the return with the old board, charged me $69.99 for a $64.99 board, and gives me $15 cash back. I am not pleased with the customer service or their "change-at-will" policies. This is a no good business doing people wrong, and yes I will be filing a complaint with the attorney general and the bbb. I have went to them for everything computer related, and now I feel like everytime I go in there, I have a target on me that says "scam me" or something? DO NOT BOTHER SPENDING MONEY HERE!!! Now this place understands customer service!! I had my computer at another shop for a week and no one had time to look at it, even though when I called I was told that they had nothing on the "bench". I picked it up and took it to SWS. I was greeted with a smile and a helping hand getting it out of the car. Theresa, the MAC specialist, took it immediately, plugged it in and started cleaning out the mess I had made. More ram was added and some software issues were resolved. I picked it up a hour later and paid my very reasonable bill. I had a great customer experience. I have done business with SWS probably 6 or 7 times over the last 7 years. I've bought a refurbished desktop, several parts (e.g. WiFi cards), and had them upgrade 2 Lenovo laptops to Windows 10. I've always found their prices to be reasonable, their service excellent, and their sales and tech people to be knowledgeable, accessible, and helpful. When I need help I just walk up to someone and ask for it-- when I've done that I've always received excellent help. I'm quite happy with SWS and I will continue to use them as my go-to choice for computer parts and service in Tucson. The only reason I'm writing this review is that I've read some of the very negative reviews here on Yelp, and over and over again the details of the long tirades in those reviews are the complete opposite of my own experience with SWS. Of course shit does occasionally happen, and if you visit any business at a busy time, customer service personnel won't be available to help you IMMEDIATELY. And of course different people react in different ways when problems occur. If you deal with enough people there will always be a few that don't behave rationally, a few that will walk away unhappy, and a few that will leave very negative reviews. Still, taking all that into consideration, some of the negative reviews that I've read are *so* different from what I've experienced that I have to wonder whether they are genuine reviews by real people, or fake reviews by trolls. The disconnect is that extreme. So when you read a VERY negative review here, I won't say it's wrong... but my advice is to take it with a grain of salt. read more

I was hoping that SWS would be able to fix my tablet but they couldn't since they only work with laptops and towers. However, the staff were really friendly and were able to help my husband with his video card. They didn't have to do that. They could have tried to sell us all sorts of expensive stuff, like at other places, but were more about helping us with what we had. I appreciate that. We had been shopping around all day at other stores and this place was less about hassling us with a new sale and more about customer help. I recently landed my first contract to produce CGI visual effects for an actual budgeted and distributed Hollywood movie. This work doesn't make its way to Tucson often if ever, so it was important my career and Tucson in general, to get it right. I web-ordered a high end computer from a out of state and well known vendor that specializes in computers for this kind of work to handle the extreme workloads feature film production puts on machines. Anyway, the machine, which came weeks late, from the other "high-end" vendor blew a mother board after one crashing/freezing week of trouble. The shot were due in one week so there was no time to send it back and make my deadline. I called a big electronics in Phoenix and was put on hold... Then, I called SWS in big hurry and they hustled for me immediately helping me think through all of my options. Computers of my specifications are not often available anywhere in Arizona and never on a moment's notice. Two employees from SWS, stood out and stood up to the plate, spending extra time and energy with me, even skipping lunch. The helped me buy and customize one of there Phoenix high-end systems that could handle the workload and deadline. These employees were Vlad Averkiev and Kristian Gonzalez, they knew every part, piece of what I need and they all worked together. Within a two hours I walked out the door with the fastest and most stable computers I have ever used for this work for small fortune less than the VFX specific machine manufacturer charge for the same hardware. This machine is still humming away crunching away at 8 gig VFX files, writing/reading TB sized simulations and rendering feature film quality 4k digital film frames day and night,with not one hiccup. SWS literally saved the day for me. In fact, they helped this major production go out in time as they scheduled editing based on my deadline. I would recommend to any professional doing high end work in Arizona to visit with these guys before ordering something out of state or buying a slick fruit based system for a huge mark up.
