If someone asks me about zappy equipment, I always refer them to SWS Electronics & Computers because the friendly, informative staff can't be beat. Over the years I've purchased TV antennas, headphones, and other zappy equipment. Everything has always worked really well, and they helped me figure out what I did wrong if it's not working. SWS has been very helpful for me. I've purchased a gaming pc through them and they also worked on a Lenovo Thinkpad that I unfortunately spilled liquid on. They were able to take apart and clean the laptop and found that none of the liquid made it to key components. SWS provides an exceptional service at a very reasonable price. SWS DID ME DIRTY! I took 3 computers to SWS for service. I have an older laptop that I was having a problem updating, but worked very well otherwise. SWS made several attempts to rectify the issue with no luck. On their final attempt, they somehow damaged the ability to use Wifi AND DID NOT TELL ME THEY DAMAGED IT. When I returned to tell them to fix what they broke, they threatened to call the cops on me to have me removed from the store. THEY WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR PREMANENTLY DAMAGE MY LAPTOP! I can no longer use Wifi on my laptop due to their negligence. THEY REFUSED TO MAKE GOOD ON WHAT THEY DAMAGED! read more

I was thrilled with the repairs at this place! The power switch on my laptop broke, and they needed to open it up to see the issue. That was a $50 service charge. They called me a few days later and said that they fixed it for that price! Then, the guy said that my machine was slow to boot, and they could figure out why. The next day they called to tell me that the hard drive was failing, and they could replace it and "clone" the data to the new drive for about $200. When I got my laptop back after just a week, it's lightning-fast and like brand-new, and all data was on the new drive. I'll definitely return to SWS. read more

"Drastic mischaracterization" nope, everything I said is pretty accurate to what happened. "First off, you brought your computer in for service last October", you do realize how much time has passed since right? Do you guys just want me to leave my main resource for school with you guys indefinitely? It was shown to SWS in October and it is currently March. We didn't even resolve the issue cause your moronic techs misdiagnosed it. If it was an internal component that was overheating and causing the screen issue, why was that not found out in the first place? I took my laptop back once I was able to afford the asinine prices under a student budget. You guys wanted for repairs, $50 to look at it, $50 to install the screen, and another $220 for the screen itself. Do the math Fred, January, February, March, how many months does it take for SWS to diagnose an issue properly and fix it? Apparently, that answer is a "?". "You mentioned that the computer runs hot in idle but did not request or pay for a diagnostic service." Actually, I mentioned that as a side issue on the original request about getting the screen replaced due to artifacting. I made the screen the main priority and only slightly mentioned the temperature problem to see if they could figure out why the laptop was running hot on idle, they returned to me and said "that is just how hot laptops usually run", once again your techs fault for doing a shitty job. Also, your techs did not offer this service to me, they said it would be $50 to look at the laptop and mentioned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about a separate diagnosis about the overheating. Lie more Fred, I get it you have to keep your fraudulent business afloat. You guys ordered a screen for me, and it came with 3 broken pixels (2 white dots and 1 red dot) and made me waste more time because you morons like to order from the worst manufacturer you can find! Great job! "We advised that there is a threshold for failing pixels through most screen manufacturers" Imagine giving your customers a threshold about how meeting the requirements for an inevitably bad screen is the precursor before returning it. You guys ordered a shitty screen, that is on YOU. I didn't "conveniently" leave out the fact that you guys returned the money I paid for the screen. I left it out because you did the BARE MINIMUM in fixing the problems you guys created. The amount of time wasted in ordering what 3 screens? What a stupid business practice. I deserve MORE than what I paid you guys for the sheer amount of my time and energy you guys wasted. How is returning $330 of my money going to make up for a destroyed high-grade laptop worth $1500? "We adjusted settings temporarily so that you could get work done on your laptop." All you guys did was change the setting so that my computer would not go idle. A terrible solution, one that I already thought of myself and ultimately is bad for the laptop in the long run if it is not able to dim the screen and save power. "Delayed response from you after the initial complaint, " What delayed response? If it fell within the warranty time to replace the screen, how was it "delayed"? What does my "delay" have to do with the "low availability" on the screens? You guys decided to use an unnamed manufacturer, and once again pin the blame on the customer when parts aren't available? How pathetic are you Fred? The loaner laptop that I had to PLEAD for was only given to me once I BROUGHT IT UP, and I only got to borrow it for what 3 days? Out of the weeks and weeks, it took you guys to do nothing, I got to borrow a notebook for 72 hours. Wow, amazing, riveting. You dipshits didn't even think to offer it to me after making so many mistakes, after ordering several shitty parts, and after making me wait several weeks. I had to ask this of my own accord, not because you guys thought of it, which you didn't, I did. "We cannot be held responsible for the parts or shipping times for our vendors." They have fully custom computers, networking and technical assistance including installation services. SWS also carries accessories like mice, sd drives, keyboards, modems, joysticks, ups. The essentials include power supplies, motherboards, cpu, ram, harddrives and more. They also have a lot of used parts and components at very reasonable prices. If you don't need new cables or parts then this is an awesome place to pick up parts. read more

This place seemed nice at first, but it wasn't until I brought my laptop in for a repair that they weren't able to help me with. That's no big deal, it was when he said I should throw my laptop away, that upset me. It's a HP 360 convertible, it was newer when I brought it in. The men there made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about, and seemed very sexist towards me. If you need computer repair, go to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, not to SWS. My husband brought his computer to SWS for a total cleaning of any malware. Expensive. A week later they called to say it was ready. He picked it up, fired it up, and immediately had problems. He then took it to Geek Squad who found 2 more malware. Now it works perfectly. He went back to SWS to tell them that they hadn't done the job correctly and to get some discount from what he had paid them. They don't stand behind their work. I was building a new pc, but couldn't get the screws off the M.2 SSD heat sink because the manufacturers over twerked the screw. Wow very disappointing and sad customer service I wish he gave me one reason not to yelp it's such a good store focused from A to Z to anything related to computer it's niche market segment where they sell for specific type of customer in a repetitive so it should be a high quality of serving their people because they would spend money . I purchased a laptop from SWS, knowing I was paying top dollar. However, I wanted them to transfer everything from my old Mac to a PC which I paid an additional hefty fee for. Within a week I had to take it back because certain letters on the keyboard didn't work. They did the whole process again with a supposedly new computer. A few months later the screen randomly goes black for a minute- not shutting down, just nothing on the screen. Took it back and was told I now have to go through Acer's warranty. IF they replace it (I know this is not going to be an easy task) I will lose all the data they have transferred twice and which I paid hundreds of dollars to be saved and transferred. They sell horrible computers and are not helpful when you have issues with them. I will not be using them in the future. Best Buy has better customer support and that's saying a lot. Edit 1: In response to your response: no data was transferred for free. I paid a total of $365 for that service- two different charges. One charge for the computer and the other for the hard drive. I'm already dealing with Acer on the warranty myself. I stand by the fact that you sell subpar computers. Never would I expect to have to go through 3 computers to get one that works. You already replaced it once due to a non-working keyboard button. Edit 2: please share your email with me. I would be happy to send you the multiple receipts I have of the transactions. It's nice to talk to a computer place that is upfront about pricing, gives you options, and is patient and honest. We have gone in several times to get computers fixed, hard drives put in enclosures, and really old computers and printers recycled. Obscure cords? They likely have it. Parts? I knew my PC was too small for a 4080 so I went in to the store and asked the employee what I needed to upgrade to something that size. I also specifically asked that 3 GPU powering cables be left out so I can upgrade when I get it. He 'made note of it' on the records. He shows me PC cases that will supposedly fit it and I get one of the ones he recommends. I ask if I need a new power supply because I know 750 was skerting the edge. He said I shouldn't need a new one it just might turn off every now and then. I realize now that I should have stopped taking advice from this person and left the store with my computer still in tact. I choose to upgrade the power supply anyway. $650 ($250 of that being labor) and a week later I get a call that my PC is ready for pick up. I come in and the PC does not have the 3 cables out that I needed out. I ask why there are not 3 cables and the front desk guy said that it was in the PSU box and I can install it if I needed it. I said I did need it and the $250 should have paid to having that installed like I had kindly asked several times upon providing them my PC. He goes back to the PC tech to ask for that to be done. Fine, I think. At least it is a quick fix. He comes back out and asks what kind of graphics card was it again? I Tell him a 4080 Gigabyte gaming OC. He tells me that that graphics card might not fit. I am blown away by this. I tell him about the other employee who told me these were the parts to get and I got them. He then goes back to the tech and tells me if they take out 2 of my fans then it would fit. Which is still beyond upsetting to me because why should I put up with less airflow than I started with? I ask if they could put it in a new case and they said I would have to pay for labor again. WHICH IS INSANE!!! I paid you the first time to do it right and the PC techs never read the notes and every safety measure was ignored and now I am out who knows how much extra money after all this is hopefully said and done Monday. I have spent probably close to $2000 here in the past few years getting repairs and upgrades and now I am being treated like a jerk for not getting what I paid for. This is beyond upsetting. My son needed a part for a something or other. The young man helping him was so helpful and sure enough what my son bought for about 5 bucks worked. This is a great place if you need any kind of repair. They are honest and helpful, letting you know if a repair is worth it, or of the cost is high enough that you should just get a new computer/laptop. When the screen on my Dell laptop stopped working properly, they did a quick check and told me that the whole back would need to be replaced, at a fairly high cost. We agreed that at the age of the laptop, etc., it wasn't worth fixing. They did not try to sell me anything at their store. They even offered to help me (for free) if I had any trouble loading software onto my new laptop. My husband had a desktop built for him there several years ago, and he's been thrilled with it ever since, with no problems at all. We highly recommend SWS. read more

My computer broke and the guy on the phone was very and helpful. He said that I could bring the computer in and they would take a look and attempt to repair it. I took the computer in to have them take a look and the employee I spoke to listened to the story and immediately dismissed it as a motherboard issue and refused to even diagnose the problem. He kept coming up with a story about the bios not working with replacement t batteries, and refused to take a look at other possibilities while glaring at me. I am pretty tech savvy, and I have done my share of Computer troubleshooting g and repair. I know for a fact that the issue does not have to do with the bios because a cursory search online demonstrates that the issue is battery related. I only give the extra star for the helpful guy on the phone. Otherwise, do not take your computer to be repaired here. They will treat you like an idiot, and maybe refuse to even try to diagnose the problem, if they do accept your computer they will assume that you know nothing and try to rip you off using jargon to confuse and intimidate you. read more

I'm going to try to make this brief, and not a "stab" or rude. However, I desire simply to share my experience, and other shoppers/visitors can take or leave this information. I have visited SWS many times over the last year or so, simply to see what a local PC hardware shop has to offer. I am a very tech savvy person, I build my own PC's and know exactly what I'm looking at, and looking for. I visited with the full intention of buying products I need if they had them. There has only been one time in approximately 5-7 times I visited that anyone has spoken to me. As an example I went to the store yesterday 1/23/2019 and there wasn't a single other customer in the store when I arrived. No one said hello, hi, or can I help you find something. Through my time browsing the store, still, no one said anything to me. I made eye contact with at least two of the store associates and the situation remained the same; no greeting, response, or offer of help. I proceeded through the gaming keyboards, the two sides/isles with computer cases, looked at the processors they have behind the glass cases - bearing in mind that I'm on the market for the i9-9900K - I looked around and still nothing from the staff. I looked at the motherboards that are also displayed in the glass case, the graphics cards, all of which are VERY high priced items - again nothing from the staff. After about 15 minutes of browsing the store, and no communication from the staff I proceeded to leave - without surprise not even a "have a nice day," "come again," "good bye" - nothing. I will not be revisiting SWS because I've tried too many times without success to support this local business. read more

could have been a lot better , im just now getting to writing this even tho it was a couple months by now , I took my pc in and they diagnosed it telling me I need a new cooler for cpu so I buy a $300+ one and pay for them to install it which is another 120 or so too much if u ask me but I needed it now and I have no tools to do it myself , so after o pay for everything they call me telling me I need to bring a cable to see of it works your telling me you didn't have a cable to test it then let me know before I drove 20 min they had me come back and fourth to the store multiole times after paying for diagnostics the new cooler AND install they call me to say it's done so I make the trip again and take it home and guess what happens as soon as I plug it in IT OVERHEATS and the new cooler has a led display that literally tells you the temperature so that means they installed it and said good to go or good enough not checking anything to make sure it works also I realized my gpu fans were not spinning so they didn't see that either and after paying all this money for parts and labor I still had to redo the install dust out my pc and take out the fans of my gpu and inspect them and put it back in the guys where nice that I talked to but whoever worked on my pc did not want to do their job and costed me too much time and money for it to be worth it I would not recommend getting your pc serviced by SWS from my experience read more

I came in four times in one day to have help fixing my computer. They never even asked me what kind of computer I have. They kept trying to sell me multiple parts that didn't work with my laptop. Evertime I came back to complain the salesman told me if he had asked me one more question he would have known not to sell me that particular part. EVERYTIME I CAME BACK he told me this. When I spoke to management to voice my complaints with their service and return the useless parts, I was told by management "it's not the job of the people on the floor to know what parts you need." what kind of business are these people running? I thought they helped repair computers, but don't actually know anything about fixing computers? I think best buy could have helped me more, which I will try next time I have an issue. So much for trying to support local. Also, they let me return some parts and refund the money to my credit card I paid with. And then all of the sudden they said they had to refund me in cash. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Took my husband's laptop in for a repair. The first person I spoke too seemed disinterested and generally not very geared toward helping me with my repair. He informed it would be $50 for a general diagnostic and then another $100 to open it up if necessary. He brought out his manager who was initially nice and then immediately became defensive and condescending. I finally agreed to just do the $50 diagnostic and go from there. Another young man behind the counter writing up my order...by hand...in a computer store. He needed to get a customer # from another guy across the store....in a computer store. Then he disappears in the back room. I stand there for 5-10 minutes. So angry, I packed up my stuff and left. I'm so tired of poor customer service. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

The staff was too busy chatting to help me. I knew exactly the card I needed. I found it on their website and it said they had 3 in stock. They recommended a part that was twice the price of the one I needed, even though their price list on their website said they had 3 in stock for the price I wanted. Told me to go look for the card I wanted on the other side of the store. The one I wanted was behind the locked glass shelf part but there was no one to help me get it. Argh. I try and shop locally whenever I can, but I don't need to deal with the arrogance of the employees at SWS, so I'll be shopping on-line for my computer parts. I recently made a sizable purchase and as we are dealing with a global pandemic I asked for some hand sanitizer from the huge bottle they had on the counter. The clerk denied my request. "Employees only" he snarked. Well, if you treat your customers like that I doubt you will need to worry about your customers using your precious sanitizer...you won't have any customers. Horrible. I'm honestly not sure what SWS stands for, but in my mind it should stand for Super Wonderful Store! I recently suffered a terrible loss... my hard drive failed. I know, the worst tragedy ever!!! Even worse, I'm a moron and didn't back up my hard drive. Even worse than that, it was during one of my final weeks of school!!! So when the Apple store told me the fate of my beautiful computer I started freaking out because my entire semester was locked in the most expensive paperweight ever. Fortunately, even though the Apple store doesn't do data recovery, one of the employees suggested I go to SWS. Needless to say, I went immediately. It was a $25 charge just for them to see if there was a chance to recover any data (totally worth it to just try). I brought them my external hard drive (I was optimistic) and gave them a wish list of the things I wanted recovered. I got a call the next day telling me that everything that was on my wish list was recovered. It felt like Santa had come early. For the data they recovered I paid another $25. Hands down, the best $50 I've ever spent. I'm pretty sure that the guys that work at SWS are super heros... or as close as we get in Tucson. read more

Pretty much, SWS is the only independent computer hardware store in Tucson. Hardware is sold at a reasonable price and the service is good. The machines they build are above-average. Since they moved locations to the mid-town address, the look of the store is more updated, more accessible and is simply a place you visit more often. They carry just about every kind of hardware you need as well as custom case modification essentials. I love them and hope they continue to grow. read more

Horrible place. My drivers license was demanded when a credit card was presented for payment. Firstly their merchant agreement with Mastercard percludes such insainity. Dont fall for this consumers, simply walk out. If you want to hand over all the pieces anyone would need to assume your identity, well then...
