We hired Switch Electric to install power to our shed. We had used them in the past. We paid them 3.5k for the job. Right after they left, our microwave dedicated breaker kept tripping. We replaced the microwave. It happened with the new one as well. I called the office within 3 days of the job completion to tell them there was a problem. The response I got was that I would be billed $275 for them to come out and,"troubleshoot." After explaining that this was not acceptable, the office lady spoke to the owner who dropped the fee to $175. It is absolutely poor customer service to take the stance that the homeowner has to prove the contractor didn't do their job. I called another electrician out and the issue was confirmed to be a loose wire to the breaker. $3,500 and Switch Electric left us with a loose wire!!! The breaker was hot to the touch. I am absolutely disgusted and will never hire them again for any project. They lost a customer because they did not address my concern, but threatened to bill me even more to check on a breaker that they moved in the panel. Horrible customer treatment. read more

We had a home backup generator installed by the folks at Switch Electric. What a great experience. From the initial meeting with Joe for the estimate, to the final installation with Bryan, Ryan and Josh it was seamless! Joe's knowledge is beyond reproach. And he was always available to answer all our questions to make sure everything was ready for installation. During install the guys were very thoughtful and respectful. They scheduled the actual power outage for the very minimal amount of time thereby only having the power out for 2 hours! They were great about explaining how everything worked and even doing a system test power outage to ensure everything worked properly. Switch Electric just finished the installation of my solar power panel system and electrical upgrade. We had a full panel array installed at our house. We spoke with at least five other companies and selected Switch Electric, mainly because of their expertise, and their pricing was reasonable. Jeremy and Brett were the two main people who I worked with during the entire project. They were very efficient, and they completed the project in time and under budget, which was a really nice surprise. I was very happy about that. Jeremy was patient with all of my questions, as I had a lot, since solar power is very new to me. Jeremy was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions without hesitation. You can tell and he explained to me that he has been through this process plenty of times and knew exactly what the process is as far as getting the solar panels installed including taking advantage of all the tax incentives and power production incentives and working through the city inspection process. Their entire team took care of everything, including all of the necessary paperwork for the building permit and solar power incentives. Could not be happier with Switch! We had them install recessed lighting throughout our house. Their bid was very reasonable (we got several), and their work was top notch. The latter is important to call out because there is a fair amount of judgment when installing recessed lighting--spacing, the number of lights for a space, etc.---and their electrician Brian totally nailed it. This is the second time we have used switch elettic for work around our house and they were great. Punctual, curteous and very quick. Work was performed efficiently and left no mess behind. Update: in the end, Switch Electric did come to my house, so the new rating is based on the actual work they did combined with the terrible experience of scheduling. After posting my original review on Yelp, Tyler, the owner of Switch Electric, contacted me and apologized for the situation. He indicated that several things had been mishandled on their part and that usually when someone wants to cancel, they should be directed to him (which did not happen in my case). I suspect he didn't know what had happened until he saw my review. He was also surprised that they hadn't just come at the original time we had scheduled since parking a block away in case the street was closed did not seem like a problem to him - this would have avoided having to reschedule at all or any of the complications that came after! Since Monday was not an option any more, he offered to send someone out to our house on Sunday instead which happened to work for our schedule, so we made the new appointment. On Sunday morning two electricians from Switch Electric came to our house. We talked over what they needed to get done and they got down to business. Joseph (one of the electricians) immediately noticed that the hardwood floors in one of the rooms is new and quickly found drop cloths and towels to put under the ladder, so they would not damage the floors which I appreciated - no one wants their new floors scratched! They put plastic over the furniture in the other rooms where they would work in order to minimize any mess from the job. Mostly there were no surprises - the job was not particularly difficult - but there were a couple of things that were unexpected, so they asked me how I would prefer they handle it before they did anything. In one of the cases, for example, they were supposed to set up an extra switch for a fan next to the existing switches for the master closet light and the master bedroom light but there was no room for three switches because of where the stud was, so they ended up moving the master closet light inside the master closet after talking to me. One of the other surprises was that they couldn't install one of the fans because when we took it down for some of the other work we did in the house, my husband accidentally killed it (poor fan). Joseph showed me which part needs to be replaced and then they set up the switches and wires, so that after we get the part, we could easily install the fan ourselves without needing more help (he did tell me several times we could always call with questions or call them to come out and install the fan). In the end, they were done two hours faster than they had scheduled for, which was nice, and they did not accidentally fall and make holes in any of the walls. In fact, they didn't accidentally cause any sort of wall damage - one of the light switches they installed does have a couple of spots in the dry wall that I am going to have to patch and paint over, but they are small and since I was planning on painting after they come anyway, it is not an issue. It probably wouldn't have been hard to patch even if I had painted ahead of time. They cleaned up most of the dust and little bits of insulation that had fallen on the floor or the furniture while they were working before they left too. Tyler called a couple of times towards the end of the job - once to check on progress and to tell them to only charge for one fan box instead of two (that was a nice touch :)) and once to remind me about this Yelp review thing (which I found amusing since in my mind it was always implied after he originally called to apologize and reschedule). Oh, a couple more things - Switch Electric was the only company we got a quote from that included a permit from City of Kirkland (and an inspection) in their quote. As part of the job was adding a new outlet (extending the circuit), they are required (I think) to do that but none of the other companies were planning on it unless I asked them to. It's an extra $120 that the owner (a.k.a. me) ends up paying, but then the City of Kirkland gets to inspect the work and make sure everything is up-to-code. I also do still have to change the wall plates of some of the switches they installed since they didn't have the right ones - they had said they would, but it turned out they didn't. I wish I had known ahead of time, so I could have picked them up at Home Depot before they came over, but changing wall plates is pretty easy, so it's only a small inconvenience. Overall, I think their electricians did a really good job and they were also careful (with my floors, etc.) and thoughtful (with surprises, etc.) and I would call them again though I would try and schedule directly through one of the electricians or Tyler as I don't relish the idea of talking to their admin/office manager. read more

Tyler, the owner of Switch, not only refunded our money for the initial consultation we had with one of his employees, but he then came out to our house himself to diagnose our issue. After looking at what we were dealing with, he came up with a plan with us that would resolve our issue. At the next appointment, the original technician came back out and performed the work that we and Tyler had agreed to have done. Brian, the tech that came out, acknowledged that he had dropped the ball on us, apologized, explained some VERY mitigating circumstances as to why (I'm not going to elaborate on this, suffice to say I was very satisfied with his explanation). Given our overall experience with Switch, I would absolutely, wholeheartedly recommend them to a friend, despite our initial impression. Switch made it right. I bought an Angie's List BIG DEAL for $399 for 8 hours of electrician work. My jobs included: identifiy and label entire breaker panel; install fluorescent lights in garage; troubleshoot and resolve several strange intermittent lights and outlets; disconnect wall heater; provide access to outlet between two cabinets; fix two outside lights; provide assurance that panel and wiring were safe; I can't say enough good things about Switch Electric and especially Bryan, who spent 8 hours working diligently through all the issues with our electrical issues. We had bought a house several months ago - and the electrical work was suspect and the breaker panel was not labelled. I communicated with Tyler by email before the job - and got assurance that they could do the various jobs I had specified in their $399 Big Deal for 8 hours of electrician work. Bryan was very professional and very knowledgeable - and had to trace down many wires and circuits that had been installed in a non-standard and undocumented way during a prior remodel. After Bryan left the house I had a couple other intermittent problems and he came back a few days later and spent another hour at no charge identifying the loose wires in the breaker panel which corrected the problem - for no additional charge.
