I hadn't been to a Swiss Chalet in over a decade and I have to say that they have really upped their game, and for a mega chain family restaurant that I have always associated with a place that teenagers go on dates (maybe because many of my dates as a teenager were at a Swiss Chalet, lol), it delivered much more than I expected. My father-in-law was craving some of their ribs, so I went there with him and my husband recently for dinner. The last time I was at a Swiss Chalet, they pretty much only had rotisserie chicken. They had chicken pot pies and wraps, but I'm pretty sure everything was chicken. Well they now have ribs, rotisserie beef, and even shrimp! They had lots of healthy salads (with trendy kale and chickpeas) too. We started off with some chicken spring rolls ($7.49), and I got the rotisserie beef and garlic shrimp with the kale Caesar salad as my side ($15.49). My father-in-law was originally going to get the ribs, but then decided to get the same entree that I did, except he got regular fries as his side. My husband got the rotisserie beef and half rack of ribs with Parmesan fries as his side ($23.49). The spring rolls came 4 per order. They were actually a lot meatier than I expected. They were filled with mostly shredded chicken, with some onions, red peppers and spices. They were hot and crispy and overall pretty good. My rotisserie beef and garlic shrimp dinner came with 8 medium sized shrimp, a small serving of coleslaw, horseradish sauce, a dinner roll, and some beef in gravy. The kale Caesar salad came on the same plate and I asked for the dressing on the side and it arrived as requested. The salad was a mix of kale and romaine, with real bacon bits, real shaved parmesan cheese, and croutons. Ingredients were fresh and the salad was really tasty, especially since I was able to control the amount of dressing (as I always feel that restaurants overdress their salads for my liking). The shrimp were ok, some were plump and tasty and some were a bit dried and rubbery, at least they weren't overly greasy/oily. The beef tasted a little bit like processed roast beef to me, but I liked that it was mostly lean and not full of fat or gristley bits. It was however, a bit too salty for my liking. Overall though, pretty good for a casual chain restaurant and for the price. I'm usually not a fan of coleslaw, but this one was not overly creamy, so I didn't mind it. I had some of the parmesan fries and some of the regular fries too. Both were good. The parmesan flavour was really mild, and they tasted more like herbed fries. Swiss Chalet fries are not as crispy as I like, but they are still good, and at least not mealy. Our server was friendly and upbeat. She checked up on us appropriately. The air conditioning was blasting that evening. It was about 30 degrees Celsius outside, so I was dressed appropriately for the weather, in a sleeveless mini dress. I was freezing in the restaurant, lol. Other than that though, it was a pleasant dinner. I'm giving this place 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) for what it is, a casual mega chain family restaurant with reasonable prices and large portions. Haven't been to Swiss chalet in years, unfortunately neither my husband or I enjoyed this trip at all. We stopped on our way home from work and almost drove away from the drive through because we thought maybe they weren't open yet, turns out it just took forever to acknowledge us. Ordered 2 chicken dinners with white meat, it was so dry I hardly ate any of it And I found the gravy very spicy, almost like it had too much pepper in it. The fries were undercooked and seemed like they may have been sitting for a while. I did find the coleslaw very tasty. The service at the window when we were receiving our order was very efficient and friendly. So 2 stars, one for the coleslaw and one for the service. If you are known for your chicken, and that's why people go, you should at the least get that right. read more

they were sold out of almost everything. It took an hour and a half to get our food. There were kids, coughing and yelling beside us the whole time. Tons of flies and fruit flies flying into your mouth. I don't know how this place hasn't been shut down yet. I went there years ago and everyone in my party got food poisoning. E. coli or Salmonella or both bloody diarrhoea for two weeks. My friends son is the head cook. He's 19 and stoned out of his head constantly. Apparently the manager is a piece of work. read more

I have been going to Swiss Chalet quite frequently lately as I had a stack of gift cards that I have had built up over time. I have tried quite a few items on their menu and have a few personal favorites. The ribs, Swiss Chalet has nice and tender ribs that fall off the bone. As it is the holiday season I tried the festive special with chicken, 1/3 rack of ribs with fries and Lindt chocolate to finish it off. The meal itself was tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Canuck sandwich, another great option. Who could resist a sandwich that has chicken, beef and bacon? It was a very tasty sandwich and have gone back to this one a couple of times now. Now for this location specifically, the service is hit or miss. I have had great service a couple of times and a couple of other times I have had super slow service to the point that I was getting frustrated as we would be sitting around waiting forever for our bill. read more

I'm not a huge Swiss Chalet fan, but it has sentimental value for me as my grandmother used to love it. However, their food is good, and it's consistent. To me it's a comfort food, and I tend to go here maybe once or twice a year. We received coupons in the mail which is what encouraged us to go, and this was a convenient time to go to the local SCR. We got a special of two quarter chicken meals for $16.00, and Hubby paid extra for white meat. I chose a baked potato instead of fries. It wasn't too long to wait. I was initially a bit disappointed with the size of the leg, but to be honest there was enough food that I wasn't hungry when done. My family of five arrived for a pre-game meal on a cold winter Senators game night. The available parking was in short supply, although it serves D'Arcy McGee's as well as East Side Mario's. The place was packed with Senators fans at 5:30pm, but we were seated after a minimal wait. The server attended to us quickly and efficiently. The food arrived briskly. The place cleared out at 6:30, an hour before game time. Swiss Chalet is a Canadian casual dining restaurant chain, and most of the Ottawa franchises have been renovated and revitalized. This Kanata location is definitely dated and could use a reno. To be fair, most clients don't come for the decor. I recently visited Switzerland, and there is absolutely nothing that connects it to the land of chocolate and cheese. This is a somewhat unique franchise as it offers a drive-through, in addition to the dining room and take-out counter. The online portal is horrible. You cannot check to see if your order had anything wrong with it once delivered. The Terry Fox location in Kanata obviously CAN'T FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. I ordered drinks with our meals along with condiments and cutlery for three dinners. I didn't receive any drinks, condiments or cutlery. I called the toll free number. They said that they would deliver the missing items quickly. It took almost an hour for them to arrive. Ok, I thought, late but at least we get our drinks. But NOOOO. What was delivered were the three drinks, all different and not what I ordered, one set of cutlery, condiments for one person, and SOMEONE else's order. I had to call the toll free number again. This time I got pissed off. Neither management at the location nor counter staff are paying attention to the orders that come in, they are not packaging them correctly, and then the drivers just pick up all packages without reading the addresses or the order names. Shame on your staff. The poor person didn't get his food cuz I have it. I will end up sticking it in the fridge! read more

I ordered delivery through the phone and it took 3 agents and over 20 minutes to order. The first agent's computer was down; the second agent got disconnected. Got into the drive through at noon when the store opens and had to call out ten times and drive back and forth before someone answered. They said they would not be ready for another 10 minutes but finally took my order since I was the first in the line up. We ordered 2 chicken leg diners with no bun and stated we wanted extra fries and no drinks, total was $24.81 and went to the window. After another ten minutes waiting we got our food. When we got home there was NO extra fries just open space where the bun goes and cold white fries, the gravy cardboard container was half full and one of the two diners was not closed properly. Not impressed, never again.....and we are regulars to this Swiss Chalet. read more

Put an online order and after confirming the order pick up time, I went to the pick up desk. Paid and was told that my order will be ready in a minute. However I had to wait more than 20min, while watching the other customers (who came after me and put order over the counter) were able to pick up their orders very quickly. So I was wondering what's going on this WTF situation in mind and patiently waited for my order. After 20 min they found my order was put in the warming storage 30 min ago!!! So angry that nobody said "sorry" about this ridiculous mishandling of order. Won't come back ever again. Food was all cold, and terrible taste. Exterior sign board was all broken and didn't lit. Food is usually good but if you want delivery expect waiting over an hour and they nearly ALWAYS mix up the order. 9/10 deliveries were either incorrect orders completely or missing items that were an additional charge. Last time we ordered they screwed everything up and said they were going to give us a credit for a free meal next time we ordered- the next time we called they had nothing on file and were pretty rude about it. This review is for the restaurant. I've never tried the take-away or used their delivery system, but there are some other (not so good) reviews about that. The interior is pretty standard Swiss Chalet... except the last couple of times we have gone to Swiss Chalet on Terry Fox, we were seated in the "other" dining room, where they have bigger tables that can be put together for bigger families. This dining room kind of reminds me of a hospital cafeteria. It is very institutional and the sound echos a lot so it gets really loud and difficult to hear each other talking - especially when there are children or babies present. Got nothing against kids (have several myself) just pointing out that there is nothing to dampen the sound. On our latest visit, the service was very good. The young lady really had it together. The food was decent... but the wing on my chicken was burnt to a crisp. My piece was also smaller than the others - portion sizes should be more consistent. I have been ordering delivery from this store frequently for the past couple of years. In recent months, EVERY order I receive has something missing. It could be something minor, like salad dressing, or something major, like a whole salad or order of fries. When this happens, I have to call customer service (while my food gets cold!) and then wait an hour for the replacement item to be delivered. I don't mean to be condescending, but I really am forced to ask: How hard is it to read an order ticket and pack the appropriate items in a bag? This makes me sad, as Swiss Chalet is one of the few remaining wholly-Canadian-owned restaurant chains, but I am no longer willing to tolerate this and will not be ordering Swiss Chalet any more. read more

Had dinner delivered from this location tonight. I ordered wings and, not only were they EXTREMELY FATTY, they were raw. I called to tell them about my experience and they proceeded to tell me in order to get a refund I need to go into the store... Needless to say, not impressed. I came here the other day. I went through the drive through, their buzzer must be broken as you have to say "hello" when you are ready to order. I said hello and the woman said "I'll be with you in one second" I waited 7 minutes for her to come back (already not impressed) I then said hello again and they took my order. I pulled around to pay and receive my food, I then waited TWENTY FIVE MINUTES for my chicken and heard the people in the kitchen bickering. If I could give this a minus gazillion stars I would. The terrible service we had tonight is truly unbelievable. I ordered by phone for deliver service, which started off with me being disconnected before completing my order. I had to call back, then, in the middle of it, their system froze and I was transferred to someone else to complete after being on hold for some time. I was told the food would arrive within the hour. When it arrived, I had only one-third of my order. I had to call back to the 1-866 number to find out about the rest. They didn't know but assumed the rest was coming with another driver. I had 2 other families visiting and waiting for the food, so I had to put the first order (ours) aside and wait while it got cold. I was told the other two orders would be complimentary. The second driver arrives and argues with me that it was not free, but finally gives me the food, only to see that it was again another third of the order, the other family's food was still not there! I had to call again. I was told that they saw that the third order had not been made from their end and they were rushing it so it should be there in 15 or 20 minutes. After half an hour I called again. I was told that they couldn't reach the store, but it should be there soon. The lady said she would call me back in 10 minutes. No call came, and no food. I called again. I was told that they didn't know where it was but it should be coming.,By then it was 3.5 hours from when I ordered. I never received the last part of the order and the other family never got their meals, while I spent half the night on the phone. They offered me a 10 dollar credit for that, if you can believe it. Terrible customer service from the store and from the central station. Unbelievable!! read more
