Had never been to this location before. I remember back in the 90's, the bread was free, now $9, no cheese!? Wow! Inflation! Walking in, the hostess was atrocious and... I'm pretty tolerant, especially around the holidays. Barely a greeting, slapped menus down on a 2 top and off she went as she turned on her heel. We moved tables to a small booth for comfort within the bar which wasn't very busy. Server took a long time to come over but he was friendly and gave his fave recommendations. We just didn't see him a lot. Ordered was the Argentinian red wine, very good. Guac and corn chips. 3/5. It's like they take store bought goop guacamole and then top it off with a cut up avocado. Hmmm. It was edible. The salsa on the side was good and had a small kick. The sweet potato fries were perfect. Hot and fresh, just not enough for 2 to share. Came with a good Chipotle mayo. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the kale to other ingredients ratio in your "apple kale salad with chicken" bowl. It consisted of 80% kale, one small piece of chicken, and I had to dig through the greens to even find the apple, spicy nuts, feta and cranberries. Definitely not worth the price. read more

3 1/2 stars if only I could. Jack Astor's has long been an irregular hangout for us. But yesterday afternoon's visit was decent, both the service and the food. Although, there were a couple of items just slightly off the mark - partly because I mis-understood what I read, when I should have asked questions: I ordered the buffalo chicken wings on a cobb salad. Overall, this salad (at about $17) was delicious! The menu said the chicken bits were mildly Buffalo (ie: hot). I should have asked about that, because to be honest, this "mild" business had my nose running in no time! The other slightly off the mark issue was a mild one at that, but funny - I asked for water, which was brought out quickly, but there was so much ice in it that I had to ask for another glass almost right away. Second glass, same thing. Tilted my head back ... and got a face full of ice! Ok, joke's on me!! But the service, food & company was good. We will be back! read more

Jacks is always a pleasure. They have an interesting menu that includes some specialty "Jack Astor" items. Friends ordered Chicken Fingers and fries. Another had vegetarian Bowties with Tofu. This one was a little spicy. Wife ordered the Classic steak. It was cooked perfect was very tasty and tender. She had mashed potatoes and veggies, also good. I went for the California Grilled Chicken Salad.Also very tasty. Our waiters and waitresses were all efficient, friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the surroundings and ambience. I ate here with my husband on a Friday night. They were packed but we were still able to get a table. I got a burger and poutine as my side. My husband got a chicken bottle pasta. Both dishes were awesome and our waitress was friendly and quick to keep up with the refill of our drinks. I would recommend a stop here if you're hungry and in the area. read more

This place is awesome for lunch rushes in the area. It's not the greatest of food but it's consistently solid and not overly expensive compared to some of the other places inside of Centrum. I usually stick to the open face steak sandwich but have strayed into the burgers. Nothing else on that menu is intriguing to me. I might want to recommend...but not for the faint of heart is the garlic bread. It's more like a garlic butter soup with a lot of bread put on top of it! Ordered meals for my family of 4 through a delivery app. Unfortunately, my wife's meal was not included with the delivery, and did not show up on the receipt. Obviously the employee entering the orders into their system off the app couldn't be bothered to double check that she didn't miss anything. Not as expensive as Crazy Horse next door, not as boring as Subway and Quizno's, etc, - just good food and great variety! Seriously, there's something for everyone here... burgers, pizza, steak, Asian, salads... perfect for groups! Went in there. Ordered our drinks from a waitress who was dressed like a cheap hooker. Got delivered our drinks. Then 30 minutes later no one had come to take our orders. We walked out, and went to the Hunt Club one. In the same amount of time that we waited no being served at this Kanata location, we were served, ate, and paid at the Hunt Club one. Also, not only did the Hunt Club location have a better menu, but their wait staff were dressed properly and did not make me feel the need to get an STD test just from dining in the restaurant. We went here on a thursday evening at around 7.30 and it was BUSY, the wait was about 20 mintues, we decided to wait. The actual wait turned out to be 30 minutes and our group of 5 was stuck in a booth for 4. Needless to say, the 3, who had to share a side were not happy and kept elbowing each other. We ordered a regular pepperoni pizza, thai curry w/rice, chicken tenders with buffalo sauce and for appetizers - chips with the spinach and artichoke dip. The chips were crisp, fresh and non greasy, the dip was perfect and in a huge bowl. The pizza was just average, the bread too thick for my liking. The chicken tenders were awful, they were greasy and hard, the crust was soggy. We had asked for medium hot on the sauce and it was super bland. The fries that came with it were crip and good. The star of the night was the thai curry w/rice. Perfectly cooked vegetables and chicken with the curry not too sweet not too spicy, just perfect. I love Jack's. It's a fun environment with really good staff. The food is consistently good and often excellent. It does trend to be a little loud during the lunch and supper rush and on weekends. The noise level fits the venue for the most part but it's not where you want to take grandma for an evening out. I went to this restaurant with a party of six after a hockey game at Sensplex. It was close by and conveniently located at the Centrum so we figured we would give it a try. Casual setting and friendly atmosphere. The kids loved it, with the crayons and draw-on type paper tablecloths. They also liked the rootbeer that came in a bottle that looks like a real beer. The food was good and portion size decent. I had the huge meatball on noodles with in-house made tomato sauce and would highly recommend this to anyone. Yummy. I would go back just for that one item. Everyone enjoyed their meals from appetizer to dessert. Notably their desserts did not disapoint. They have a good menu, including a small brownie for $1.25, it is the perfect finish to the meal if you just want a little something but not a full portion. For the type of restaurant that this is (far from upscale, not as expensive as Milestones but then again not a quizno's either), I wouldn't hesitate to tell you to go if that it the type of place you are looking to eat at. I would have given the restaurant 5 stars, but the service was slow. The waitress was very nice, but the service was slow and it wasn't really that busy either. When you're out in Kanata looking to go out, there's one of two ways you can do it. You grab the car and drive the 20 minutes or so into the city, park, eat, then drive home, or try to do the same somewhere much closer to home. So then you're left with what's on offer around. By hitting the Centrum Shopping Centre, there's several around. Yes, they're mostly franchised and cower in the shadows of the big box stores like the Best Buy (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/best-buy-kanata) and the AMC 24 (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/amc-kanata-24-kanata), even as franchises go, there's some decent things to be had. Not my first choice usually, I actually like the Jack Astor's in Kanata. Though I tired by the strategic-letters-burned-out-on-neon-sign gag pretty much as soon as I saw it, it's not a bad place to grab dinner and a drink. The staff are consistently friendly, the décor is what you'd expect in a JA's, and the drinks menu is decent. You also get to draw on the placemats, so try that at your other fancy-cloth-table-cloth restaurants. Admittedly, the burger is the best thing on the menu, in my humble opinion. That and a whatever-is-half-decent-on-tap should be enough to get you fed before you hit the cinema or the movie rental place. read more

At lunch at this restaurant yesterday abscess very disappointed in the quality of food. The food was expensive and servings were skimpy. I ordered the quesadilla and revived for triangle pieces. The pieces were about the size of a Piece of cheese. My friend ordered a burger and it was cooked so well the Sens could have used it that night. For lunch, the other couple and two children ended up paying 110$ for their meal.... This is lunch people. This restaurant should take the "tors" off their name and add an "s". Positive note. Every time I go up to Ottawa to visit my grandma, we almost always make a stop at Jack Astor's. It's your standard bar and grill with lots of American-type food, but I love it! On our most recent visit, my mom asked for the nutrition facts due to her Weight Watchers diet. No later than several minutes later, one of the managers was at our table with an iPad scrolling through menu items helping her decide on the best dish to suit her diet. She ended up getting the Sesame Salmon Salad, and she said it was a great option for relatively low Weight Watcher points. So, thanks to the staff for helping her find the best dish! I, on the other hand, went all out and paid no mind to the calorie count of my meal... I ordered the poutine (when in Canada?) AND the Brie Burger. Grandma said she'd help me on the poutine, but let's be honest, I destroyed that bad boy. And were informed they were reserved for tonight. When asked about the ones out back ohh they need to be cleaned. We in 10 min and 4 staff standing at the front gossiping about the cute hockey guys coming in and other crap. you could not clean them. When how much longer we got told ohh a while we are waiting on the ones to be cleaned and they take forever. When asked for a supervisor got told there was non on staff. This event took place Saturday at 2pm on Jan 2nd. This place was a decent place to get snacks and a meal. But this was strike three with the hostess. The last 3 times I have come they hostesses were unprofessional and cared more about socializing and on the phone than the client. You have lost my business and we will no longer recommend you as a great GF place to eat. With staff that is not professional does not mater how good the GF is it is not worth the hassle. read more

I have been here a few times now and it's mediocre at best. I really try, but the service although pleasant is not very good. Today we called to find out what specials were on for Sundays. We were told it was a $6.00 appetizer menu and cheap Corona and Hop City bottles. This was at 630. We arrived at 710 and were told by the hostess that it doesn't start until 8. But that if we tell our server she can do it anyway. When our server arrived we informed her of what happened but she said she couldn't do anything. "the system won let her". No manager, no offer to serve us and punch it in later. Nothing. Needless to say we left without ordering anything. The hostess needs to be informed when she answers questions on the phone. The server did apologize but could have tried a little harder to accommodate seeing as we drove all the way there. I'll probably be back just because we like to switch up the places we attend. But I would not recommend this place as a go to restaurant or bar. read more

Also ordered Dippin Don't be Drippin Roast Beef sandwhich, just the right about of horseradish aioli and au jus was flavourful, not watery.
