I haven't been to a Jack Astor's in probably 15 years. I was pleasantly surprised with the super welcoming, kid friendly environment. It was just after the lunch rush, and we were seated promptly. Crayons and kraft paper filled each table. I ordered the three fish tacos and fries. They were pretty solid (see pic). Hubs got the hot chicken sandwich and fries, and the kids got chicken fingers and fries. Only complaint is the portions were on the smaller size, we devoured our food pretty quickly. We weren't stuffed, but we weren't hungry, just content. Another handful of fries on each plate would have been awesome! We did contemplate ordering another side of fries for the kids after they were done their meals, because they were still hungry. Service was super cheerful and pleasant. This is a fun chain restaurant. I'd come back and recommend for family/group gatherings. read more

Great restaurant with a huge variety of food! Consider Jack Astor's like a step up from a Montana's or a Kelsey's, they have great meals and their options are always excellent. We were there with a large group for a birthday party, another party was late leaving so we had to wait for our second table. The staff were more than accommodating and provided us with an app to chew on while we waited, no problems. After ordering, the food and drinks came pretty quick and everything was excellent. Quite disappointed. Came in and sat down at a table, and was waiting for 30 minutes before I had to have a staff member assist. The assisting staff member proceeded to roll her eyes at me when my back was turned (the group I was with saw it happen). A server then proceeded to come along (who was the nicest human being and did a great job), and was then taken over by an older server whom was less than charming and was not nice at all. Absolutely garbage. Was there last night for an after work function, in which appetizers were already preordered. First thing was there was no A/C. Secondly, hardly anyone in the place (bad sign). Third, drinks took forever to arrive and there is nothing like piss warm beer in a sanua. Fourth, the food didn't show up and after our complaints, we got "I'm really sorry excuse " and" we had issues in the kitchen ". Whatever food trickled out was crapping Sysco factory made stuff. Fifth, the bathroom where absolutely disgusting, the females in our party were so grossed out. At that point we wanted our tap , but they couldn't even handle that. I like to end my reviews on a positive note. So, I'll start with the stuff we didn't like. I wonder about how fresh the food is based on the speed that it arrived. But, this is a chain restaurant, so I can't expect gourmet stuff. The rice served with the salmon was from a packet, most likely Uncle Ben's. The potatoes served with my steak were from a mix. The butter was some type of petroleum byproduct. When I'm paying for food at a sit-down reataurant, it should be real. If I want fake food, I'll hit a drive thru. That being said, expectations this location exceeded expectations. We were greeted at the door with a smile and seated promptly in our booth. A perfect booth for 2, raised from the floor so that you can interact with your server easily. There's even a bar at foot level to rest your feet. Our server greeted us promptly and took our order. We already knew what we wanted, such that drinks, appetizer, and mains were taken right away. Bread and drinks arrived 5 minutes later. Calamari arrived 5 minutes after that. Mains arrived 10 minutes after that. We enjoyed every chew. Nicely seasoned. Dessert is a must when we eat out, especially with cheesecake. 1270 calories though. we always love Jack Astor's and feel you can't go wrong. this location offered a great atmosphere and excellent service, however I must offer feedback for a menu item I hadn't yet tried. the Chicken Pad Thai was just "okay" and would not be something I would order again. the sauce is not a traditional peanutTy flavour, and was too sweet and there was barely any chicken. perhaps you may want to consider using a different recipe. read more

I'm giving this place four stars mostly for the service otherwise I'd go with three. The food is ok, not extraordinary, neither bad but decent for the price and quick service. I often go here for lunch or happy hour with colleagues since it's nearby my work. Employees are usually friendly and useful; the ambiance is excellent especially the patio on summer months can be quite enjoyable. Personally, as I'm trying to follow a Keto lifestyle and avoid carbs, I usually go for steaks and replacing fries with veggies or salad, but this place is not the ideal setting for it. I wish they'd offer more low-carb options such as bunless burgers. If you're looking for a hip, pub-style ambiance to socialize with friends and colleagues around a nice cold brew and some finger food, I would still highly recommend. read more

I'm waffling between a 2 and a 3. This is the 3rd JA's I've been in and all were different. This one was, well, odd. Firstly, the staff seem to like to hover...around each other...and gab. Our particular Server was fine but we did have an issue getting her attention. Very pleasant though. My dining partners coffee came in a dirty mug. The reply was that their mugs stain. This came from both the Server and the Manager. Now, I know the difference between a stained mug and one that has a thick coffee ring half way down! That's a used mug no matter how many times you repeat what sounds like a scripted response. Stacked Poutine! Never ever order this if you want to finish it before it gets cold, this is not clever, just plain stupid. Make sure you like grated cheese because I found lots in a simple dish thats supposed to be curds only. Otherwise it's just french fry soup. UGH The Guac was tasty; too bad there wasn't more of it. I have never eaten at any Jack Astor's before. So why am I writing this? On Wednesday December, 14th, I did a beer keg delivery to the Jack Astor's on West Hunt Club in Ottawa and was greeted by an on-duty manager by the name of Leah. I don't normally do keg deliveries, I work for a local courier and freight company who was asked to help out due to the increased demand this holiday season. Some people at Bars, restaurants, and retail stores treat delivery drivers like something they scrape off the bottom of their shoes. Not Leah, she was very respectful to me. Actually the most respectful from a consignee that I have had in years. Leah understands that delivery drivers are potential customers. We need to eat too. Not only was she very professional, she even offered to bring me a fresh brewed coffee. We sat as the coffee was brewing and had a nice chat. I have been on the fence about visiting Jack Astors as a customer. Not anymore. I will be back as a customer. If my server is half as professional and courteous as Leah, I will have an amazing time. The good: Went here just before christmas after leaving another restaurant due to bad service. Server was excellent. They were accommodating to our infants car seat. Server knew the menu. Made recommendations on the burger and she was bang on. Great variety on the menu. Their new location will bring us back. We weren't fans of the Kanata location. Decided to give it a try. Walk in and get a table right away, waitress shows up to offer drinks almost immediately after..... Then it turned around and went downhill.. Only noticed one half of the restaurant but every single table is a high top, and half of them were tiny round tables meant to fit 4 that have a weird pedestal coming out of the middle that blocks social interaction and takes up way too much space. Not enough room to hold and read a menu or get your food and drinks. Menu was a little strange. Was expecting something like a steak and burger house and half the menu was a mix of Korean bbq, curry, Greek and salads with weird dressing and toppings on them. Atmosphere was also weird, the place was set up like a classic rock/country bar but the music was top 40s pop remixes with a DJ playing in the middle of the room??? Staff looked like they had no idea what they were doing, the place wasn't even half full and the ticket times on bar drinks was ridiculous. Saw the bartender pour a simple whiskey on the rocks and it sat on the counter for 5 minutes melting before a server finally picked it up. And our server was nowhere to be found. We got our food.......we finished our food..... Not a single time did she come and ask if it was okay. And it wasn't. My mashed potatoes felt like they had clumps of sand in them and my boyfriend's burger wasn't cooked properly. When we finally got our bill, it also sounded like we were being rushed out because a party of 50 was coming soon. God help them all. Extremely unimpressed and will never come back. The waitress took forever to take our drink order, took three times to get a refill and even longer for our food to arrive, and when it did, it was before the starter we ordered. The food was a little expensive for what you get, $15 dollar burger that's tiny and a$19 pasta that had nothing else on the plate, no salad, garlic bread or anything. The one saving grace of our experience was the manager who comped the whole meal when we brought our concerns to his attention. Came in for a going away party for a colleague on Friday, what a great time! Was surprised at how large the bar area was, lots of bar top tables and high booths, and the bar counter is like kind of U shaped to optimize the seating. The servers were wonderful, very quick and attentive, which also surprised me given the amount of ladies milling around socializing and going from table to table. I had a beverage and nibbled at some of the appetizers going around. The nachos were AMAZING! I came here with coworkers after work because we all equally dislike moxies, the vibe when you walk in is very good we were seated fast on the bar side at a tall table, the couch is a bit slippery my coworker kept sliding lol. Our server was Awesome her name was Leah, she was so friendly and chill, they Accomidated my veganism by bringing me An iPad that listed everything I could and couldn't eat, I just ended up ordering the guacamole which was on special, a side of rice with vegetables and French fries, the guacamole size was quite large and you get more nacho chips if you run out before the guacamole, and the rice with vegetables was so reasonably sized I was pretty full after all of it, the guacamole was also DELICIOUS. The French fries I ordered took awhile (which was totally ok because I was stuffed) but none the less because they took so long jack astor's made them on the house, and also provided my table with a free dessert, it was also my coworkers birthday so Leah and the table came up with the idea that her and just the men of jack astor's would come out and wish the ladies a happy birthday, it was pretty hilarious LOL, but then I'm Assuming the manager (a female) came over and didn't introduce herself she just said like oh who's birthday is it etc which we found odd/ creepy because we didn't know who she was LOL until she went and talked to staff Awesome experience, we all for sure will be back it's our new work spot!! read more

The bus service to this location is abhorrent. You got the 176 stopping a 10 minute walk away. And good busing is important when you're main money maker is getting people drunk. Anyway, the pictures on the back of the menu creep me out, but the menu is different and significantly better than the Kanata location(which looks like a brothel). The wait staff dresses in uniforms, so not like cheap hookers, unlike Kanata. If you're going to drink, the alcohol selection is shit in that it's only beer and wine. Put a cider on there for those of us who hate/can't drink beer and want a drink of the same status. Though seriously, edit your allergy menu. There was a sandwich and a kid's pizza on there that did not show for containing wheat. . .so I dunno if you just randomly make your pizza's not out of wheat, or if your allergy menu is wrong, but probably in your best interest to get that checked. read more

Inflexible hostess. I know they are just starting up after pandemic, so I hate to be critical, but I have to be honest. We had a reservation for 5:00 p.m. to celebrate our daughter's birthday (on the patio of course - the only option at this time). The patio was empty except for one other party when we arrived. We were seated at the first table at the entrance beside the only other party and at one of only two tables right beside very noisy Hunt Club Road. Seeing all the vacant tables the same size as ours that ran down the side of the building and away from the noisy traffic, I asked the hostess if we could be seated at one of the other tables. She said no, she had reservations for all those tables too. Now unless people making reservations specifically asked for those tables, and I doubt that each and every one of them did, I don't see why she wouldn't have accommodated our request. I have made similar requests over decades of dining out and have always found the restaurant willing to oblige. What made things worse is that when we left well over an hour later, three of those tables had not yet been occupied. Clearly those reservations weren't for more than an hour and half after we arrived. The overall experience at that table was terrible.(The guy at the next table was on his speaker phone conducting a business meeting, but that's another issue) The food was okay, except the fries that accompanied my burger were doused in way too much salt. I know they can't put salt on the table, but before you put that much salt on a customer's food, you should at least ask them if they want salt. I should have sent the meal back. read more

Just had the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The batter was overly thick and over cooked. The fish itself tasted frozen and had no flavour what so ever. The colslaw did not have any dressing and the fries were mushy at best. The beer was cold and the service was quick, so I can't give a 1 star for that, but I would not eat here again. read more
