a bowl of soup and a glass of wine
Valerie D.

Stopped in for a quick dinner tonight before a curling game. I ordered a tomato bisque soup to start, it was decent, I would order it again. Today is Tuesday, which means that the specials are "half price wings (1 lbs)" and "kids eat free". I noticed that there are three different types of wings on the menu: boneless, breaded, and original. I asked if all of the wings are on special, our server explains that only the original wings are half off, the breaded wings are $8.50 (instead of $14, I believe) and the boneless wings aren't on discount at all. Why? The boneless wings are the exact same price as the original wings, $13 per pound. Why wouldn't they be half price too, or at least $8.50 like the breaded wings? It makes zero sense to me, which is why I gave this place three stars. Get your act together, guys. Wings are wings. If they're the same price on the menu regularly, offer them at a discount on wing night! Our server was polite and courteous. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. I would visit again.

Greek salad with grilled chicken

Came here for lunch with co-workers. I have been to other Broadway locations in the city and while I do enjoy breakfast, Broadway's are not my favourite. So while everyone else ordered breakfast dishes, I went for the Greek salad with grilled chicken. I'm not sure if the waitress was new, but the service was not the bed. Many of us asked for glasses of water (no pop or coffee) and she only brought one. It was... odd. It was a while before the rest of us got our glasses of water. The food came in decent time and I was surprisingly pleased with my salad, although there was a bit too much feta cheese for my taste (I know right, too much cheese?? What??). The pita with tatziki sauce on the side was a really nice added touch. The chicken was grilled perfectly and the lettuce was crisp and fresh! The waitress seemed to disappear at some point, after she took our empty plates away, we didn't see her for a good 15 minutes. We were in a hurry to get our bills and get back to the office. I'd hope that if I came back here for lunch, the service might be a bit better. But I would definitely order the greek salad again.

a plate of breakfast food

My 2nd day in Canada and my Aunt brought me here. Apparently the best breakfast around. I got bacon, home fries, pouched egg and fruit. Dina's something I think this brekkie was called?!?! Home fries were good, pouched eggs were good but the bacon was pretty greasy. I was not impressed. I have a feeling I will be back here at some point during my 2 years in Canada so I hope they impress me a little more. Am I just an ex pat who is already comparing everything to back home? Or was this just an average breakfast experience. Who knows.

I loooove their Broadway skillet. It's so good! I get it every time we come and also have ordered it in many times and it's still great.

Their sandwiches and chicken plates were really good but the pasta was average, nothing special.

Food was very good. I didn't know what to expect at first. Flat bread curry chicken was big and thick like a Pizza.

More creams and lighter oaks used in the dinning room. It was a pleasant and nice change. The fam and I came here for a family get together and it was fine. I do frequent Moxies in other parts of the city frequently so the menu can get a tad tiring as its stayed pretty consistant over the last couple of years with some minor changes. I decided to try the beet salad which was new to the menu. It was large and it was topped with SO SO SOOOOOo many crispy beets, that they were all stained and stuck to my teeth and lips when I went to the restroom. I had no idea. It is not a "date friendly" salad. I also ordered the espresso martini which was $5.00. It was very potent and tasty, but it didn't come with 3 espresso beans on top which is supposed to be for luck. The hubby had the mahi mahi and I tried the mashed potatoes and they were delish. Service was to the point and not overbearing.

TLDR: Good food, nice environment, great service. Moxie's fit the bill. I've been to Moxie's before, but only locations in Toronto. They are all kind of the same, which is not a bad thing. The food is consistently good, service is attentive without being intrusive and the ambiance is modern casual. One of my friends was coming from out-of-town and we hadn't seen each other in 7 years, so we were chatting and chatting and the poor server was waiting for us to order. After several attempts she said to close our menus when we were ready to order and she'll take the cue to come over. I thought that was fantastic. And she was super patient with us. I got the Thai Chicken Salad ($25.50). I asked for the salad dressing on the side, and it came as requested. I advised her I was allergic to sesame seeds and poppy seeds and she let me know the manager will come and speak with me, as that is their practice for all allergies. The manager came and let me know that the salad and dressing did not contain sesame or poppy seeds, but there's this crunchy mix they have that they purchase but no longer have the packaging so cannot rule out contact with sesame. We decided that the best option would be to have it on the side and I could visually inspect it and decide whether I wanted to eat it or not. I appreciated their extra attention to allergies. I didn't see any sesame seeds in the crunchy mix, so I added it to my salad (I can tolerate sesame oil, just not actual seeds, so I was confident I'd be fine). I enjoyed the crunchy texture it added. The salad was mostly arugula with maybe some cilantro or other herb. The amount of chicken was very little, but at least it was lean breast meat. It had shredded carrots and red cabbage. Avocado slices, cashews and pumpkin seeds. The dressing was a creamy cashew dressing. I enjoyed the salad. I was going to get some dessert, as I love their mini desserts, especially "bite of brownie" but I was surprisingly too full. My first choice for dining out is always small local independent restaurants. However, I would never object to going to a Moxie's. In fact, I'd say of all the chain restaurants, it's my favourite. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (103)

Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

The Long Version: The Alembic Stillhouse is the restaurant/pub attached to the Cartier Suites Hotel. It has the usual pub fare like fish and chips, burgers, chicken fingers, etc. but it also has some Latin American dishes like arepas, tequenos, tostones and churros. My husband and I had dinner here and it was overall really good. I had the Arepa with Soup ($15) and added a second arepa for an additional $9. I got the Pabellon and Reina arepas. The soup of the day was tomato basil. My husband had the fish and chips ($18). I really enjoyed my arepas. The Pabellon was layered with shredded beef and feta cheese on top (the open end), and black beans and plantains on the bottom (the closed end). The Reina had the filling uniformly distributed - pieces of lean chicken breast mixed with avocado and cilantro crema. The corn meal arepa shell was crispy on the outside and held the fillings very well. I can't even decide which one I liked better because both were so good. I didn't like the tomato basil soup though. It had a cheesy note to it which I found off-putting. However, my husband loved it, so I gave it to him. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips. I had a bit of his fish and while it was crispy on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside, it had a strong fishy smell and taste that I didn't like. The fries were crispy and hot but were from frozen. Service was pleasant. The place has a pub feel. They have karaoke on Fridays starting at 8pm. We left before it started, lol. 5 stars for the arepas, 3 stars for the other food I tried, so 4 stars overall since service was good. I would get the arepas again. Street parking is the best bet (some streets have free parking and some streets have paid metered parking which is about $3 an hour). There's indoor hotel parking but it's a daily rate and over $20.
