So mad! I knew Swing's location on 17th had to shut down because the building was getting a makeover but I had no idea they moved to this location until yesterday -- and I work around the corner! Cut to the chase -- Swing's is a DC institution. It's a great independent alternative to Sbux and Peet's (and Pret, and DD, and ABP, and Panera, and Cosi....). The coffee is excellent. I've missed Swing's over on 17th & G (they should be back this year!). I'm glad they have opened up another location in the District. The service here is amazing, friendly, and warm. I have family who have become addicted to High Mountain, and I'm fond of many of their drinks too. I believe that the pastries are different to what they had previously (I'm missing the almond croissant). All-in-all they are fine. There's some seating, but I wouldn't say that there is a large enough space for a book club. read more

While working in our D.C. office I typically would run to the Starbucks on the corner, but luckily last night I saw this place when I left our building. All I can say is that the latte is incredibly smooth and tasty. I became accustomed to Starbucks bitter or burnt espresso, and occasionally will get the treat of venturing out to an SF coffee shop where they know how to make a latte. This place, knows how to make a latte. I am glad I found it and now every time I work in the D.C. office (and will share the info with the co-workers), this will be a go-to spot. I also prefer to support local businesses over massive chains, so this was definitely a good find. Give it a try! Finally! Quality coffee in the District! This morning I had the pleasure of getting my morning cup at Swing's. The menu is small and simple. You won't find the crazy complicated concoctions that most coffee places have. Here, they focus on making the coffee good so you don't have to cover it up with all of the extras! I purchased a latte and it was so smooth and creamy that I barely needed to add any sugar at all. The coffee tasted dark, roasted, and fresh. It was free of the acrid, heartburn inducing taste that most coffee at coffee shops has. I didn't purchase any pastries (it took almost all of my willpower to walk away) but they looks amazing! The croissants looked light and buttery and there were several other selections that were more unique than I am used to seeing. All in all it was a great experience going into Swings and getting my coffee this morning. I can't wait to go back again! read more

I could not recommend this place more. There is absolutely no reason to head to the Starbucks across the street now that this gem of a coffee shop has opened. Better prices, better atmosphere, better staff, and superb coffee. Trust me and order the nitro latte. It's amazing and that's all I'm going to say about it because it truly speaks for itself. I wouldn't order any of the scones/muffins/donuts. I've tried a couple, waiting to hit the jackpot but have been unsuccessful. My all-time favorite beverage: Swing's iced dirty chai. Even in the dead of winter, I'll make my way down 14th Street to treat myself to a cup. When Swing's temporarily closed to move to their 14th Street location, I experienced withdrawal symptoms. Absolutely delicious! I also love their bourbon barrel-aged beans and try to buy them when they have them in stock. It's a small space (three tables and then bar-type seating). Basically, it's a no-fuss coffee shop (i.e., the baked goods aren't the star of this place). If you avoid the morning rush, it can be a nice place to get some work done since they do have wi-fi and outlets. Also, it's a plus that they have a friendly and knowledgeable staff! read more

Sad to say that I didn't even get a chance to taste anything here. I walked in this morning and the person at the register was so unwelcoming that I walked right back out. The first question I was asked was "are you ready?" How about "good morning" or "how are you today?" I've heard such great things about this place, but my first impression was definitely not the best. I don't know if she's having a bad morning or if this is her everyday attitude or maybe I interrupted her phone conversation, but something needs to change if this company wants to continue with the "great reputation" that they have. read more

I love this coffee shop. They have another location at Alexandria but I find the DC location t be awesome. The staff is great and honest with their recommendations. While they are limited in food they do their best in providing quality options a that pair well with their drinks. I tried the I heart valentines drink today and was impressed with the flavor combination of the cardamom and white chocolate topped with raspberry. Their nitro cold brews are a MUST. read more

Their "Nitro Latte" by default comes chock full of vanilla flavoring even though it isn't mentioned anywhere on the menu and the cashier didn't ask or state this was the case. I didn't assume something listed as a latte would be so heavily flavored. It was extremely disappointing. I love the new location. They have some of the best drip/filter coffee in town, and it's way cheaper than the other options. The new space is beautiful, and they occasionally have something really interesting like a cold brew made with whisky barrel-aged beans. Was told about Swing's coffee by a colleague and because I LOVE coffee shops I had to go. I even went in the rain. It's a cozy little place. I would say the layout could use a few more stools at the bar and a few more tables but the detail and decor suit the shop well. I don't think I'd knock off a star for that. The coffee itself was great. I had a capuccino and it was well made without all of the extra's that you'll find at a conventional shop. I enjoy taking coffee breaks and dropping by Swings on the go or just simply hanging out. read more

The only place my husband and I get our coffee. It's a lovely treat to go in for a pour over, and they'll grind their beans to take home too. We prefer a medium roast but are under strict orders to bring their dark roast diplomat blend to my in-laws every time we visit them in North Carolina. They're a hit for all tastes! read more
