My coworkers and I will take the long walk over to Sweetwaters when we need a caffeine boost. The service and coffee is worth the walk. The last time I went, early December, I had an excellent Pumpkin Latte with an extra shot of espresso and a chocolate croissant. The croissant, which I expected to be a little stale, was actually fresh, crispy and full of chocolate deliciousness. The coffee shop doesn't have a ton of seating, but there's always a friendly atmosphere here. As with any coffee shop in New Jersey, prices can make you roll your eyes, but they are no worse than anywhere else. We'll continue to take the walk...it's worth it. read more

If you like fresh made espresso don't do it. Walked in 15 minutes before closing ordered a latte and the young lady said she couldn't make me a fresh latte. BEST LEMON BAR EVER!!! WOW it's chewy but also has a bite it's amazing. I wasn't crazy about the chai late. It lacks flavor. Service is excellent - staff is super friendly. They have a rewards system too which is nice - you can sign up with your phone number. The shop is a bit cramped - it can feel a bit claustrophobic if it's packed. read more

My partner goes here more than me tbh, but we both like Sweetwaters. He worked in the area for a brief stint and Sweetwaters turned out to be the meetup for his coworkers at the time, where they went to get out of the office and reset. It's ideal for that with its nicely decorated, spacious interior and ample seating. The teas are nice. Coffee is not the strongest out there; so if you like strong coffee, you may consider going to another spot on Halsey. However, the desserts and sweets are all amazing. This is a cute spot in the Hahne building; worth checking out once to see if it's your jam. read more

We stopped here after visiting the Picturing Black Girlhood exhibition up in Express Newark. I'm glad we did, but they were closing at 4 and we had to take our drinks to go. I rarely (if ever) leave bad reviews, but one particular young lady with the blue hair has a NASTY attitude (the second time I've experienced it....everyone else has been great). While I waited for her to finish serving the customer ahead of me, I stepped off to the side to decide if I wanted to purchase something in addition to my coffee. All I heard was a pointed "yeah?". So I looked up and asked if that meant she was ready and she goes "that's why I'm standing here". I had to leave immediately before saying what I really wanted to say. I don't need the pleasantries but I'll be damned if I pay for a side of attitude with my espresso. Imagine! Lovely coffee shop in a great location. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff, and they recommended beverages based on my taste preferences. Ended up getting the green tea latte and a few macaroons. The green tea latte was perfect as I didn't want an overly sweet beverage, it was balanced enough to still have the earthy flavor of green tea but the right hint of sweet. The macaroons were regular, nothing to rave about but not bad either. They had a full display of pastries and desserts, so definitely would like to come back and try a few of those. Deliciousness this place is a hidden gem on Halsey! A sweet lovers dream. I had the red velvet cake and a matcha tea and they complimented my day nicely. The cake was moist and the matcha tea was a great balance of earthiness and sweetness. I also got a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream when the manager overheard that I love ice cream. Sweetwater's is by far the most cohesive integrated One-Stop shop for all your coffee needs very convenient granted that it's right next to whole foods coffee and bakery goods priced just right for the high quality you get and the energy is incredibly positive.. I believe they have a manager there named Trinity and she's made my experience their overall very pleasant and seems to have rubbed off on all the employees even when she's not there I still feel that I'm in a coffee shop that accepts me and my business. So this was my first visit to this place and I regret it. I asked for a cup of hot cocoa and needed to know about the sizing of the cups- the server told me the ratio of chocolate and milk is the same in each size. She didnt seem polite/ friendly to begin with. I placed my order and what I received was extremely sweet and not palatable, spoke to her and she says if I had gone for a bigger size it would have more milk and less chocolate. Like really? Didnt I ask this the first time around? Ofcourse I was unhappy and told her it didnt make any sense. I'm a strong supporter of small local businesses and I truly want them to flourish. But for this to happen, they have to be good. Well I am sorry to say but the cappuccinos at Sweetwaters are not good--they are flavorless. Over the last three days, I have had cappuccinos at Starbucks, then Dunkin Donuts, and now Sweetwaters. Of these, Dunkin Donuts was the best (to my surprise), Starbucks next, but Sweetwaters at the very bottom. Just no coffee flavor or aroma in their cappuccino, all I can taste is milk. Not good. And note that I have been comparing cappuccinos (which have less milk) and not lattes (which have more). So for there to be no coffee flavor in a cappuccino is truly sad. Went in here for the first time and I loved it! I got the iced tea lemonade with the mandarin orange tea, and I'll definitely come back for that. They have lots of different cookies and other cafe foods. The fruit and yogurt parfait was pretty good. I think that the actual cafe is clean and has a nice atmosphere. Went here with my family. The strawberry bliss ice dragon was a huge hit with my daughters and I loved my coffee iced dragon. I highly recommend the lemon squares and monkey bread. They were delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will totally be coming back soon!!! read more
