The most overhyped salad. This was my first SG salad ever, as I tend to gravitate towards Chopt (not out of any loyalty to Chopt, it just so happens to have a ton of locations where I work/travel). I don't understand the craze for Sweetgreen. A mediocre salad for $20? It did the job in terms of filling me up but I was left spiritually unfulfilled. Ordered the kale caesar (but swapped romaine instead of the kale, because I'm a heathen and my hatred of kale only exceeds my hatred of romaine), and the only source of flavor and moisture came from the roasted corn I added on an impulse. Everything else was so, so dry. The chicken was an insult to grilled chicken. I am no chef but I could make a better chicken. I needed a lot more dressing and I never say that. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. People say the salmon and the wild harvest bowl here are good. This is the closest Sweetgreen to me. I've been getting the Spicy Green Goddess for the last couple of times (but replacing spring mix with kale). I don't know what it is, but when they mention that there's no seed oils and more protein, I always fall for it. This location is clean, and the set up looks a bit different compared to the one I visit near Bryant Park (i.e., ordering on a kiosk instead of standing in line). It wasn't that busy around noon and was easy to pick up my online order. There were a few tables inside where you can sit and eat. Would be back to try other salads/warm bowls! read more

Sweetgreen was recommended by my friend, so when the day felt like a salad for lunch kinda day, I gave it a try. Pickup was seamless, with a dedicated pickup shelf area to the right the moment you step in. I got the Harvest Bowl ($14.95) with the Apples substituted for Spicy Broccoli because they didn't have that day. The bowl was perfectly compact where everything stays still despite shaking it. I haven't had salad in a minute, let alone a Kale salad, and it tasted better than I anticipated. There was a good amount of texture in every chew, from the chopped nuts to the stringy chicken. I didn't enjoy the ever-so-often hard grit against my teeth that came from the wild rice though. The goat cheese was a unique add-on that not only left a smelly impression but also a fun gamey tasting edition to the mix. Rude employees, poorly managed kitchen. I work a block away, and would love to add Sweetgreen to my regular rotation for lunch. But I'm not going to pay to be disrespected or have my time wasted. Not when there are so many other great options in the neighborhood. I waited in line almost 20 minutes just to get up to the counter. And it wasn't overly busy for lunch time, they were just working at a snail's pace. When someone finally took my order, she then asked the woman behind me for her order, without moving a muscle to make mine. I asked if she was skipping me, and she said, "No, I'm making both at once," and proceeded to fill the other woman's order. Apparently my time is of no value, and I'd just have to wait while she completed the order of someone behind me in line. She then informed me one of my ingredients wasn't ready, and it would be ANOTHER ten minutes. At that point I walked out. Honestly, I should have walked out sooner. There is no excuse for treating customers like garbage, and I can see from the other negative reviews that this is the rule here and not the exception. Nor is there an excuse for slow, lazy service. I am so so grossed out with sweetgreen right now! Went here with my coworkers last week and took it back to our office. One of my coworkers opens up her lid to see a bug. 5 minutes later...ANOTHER BUG. She took pics, tweeted them at sweetgreen and naturally we all proceeded to toss our salads. Two bugs in one salad either means she got REALLY unlucky that the ONLY two bugs in the entire place ended up in hers, or whatever topping or green these bugs came from was infested. She also reached out to complain through the app. She did't hear back until the next day and only received a refund and $15 credit and the explanation that their stuff is just SO FRESH. I don't even want to go there with the list of things that can be found in naturally in nature that I still don't want to find in my salad. She reached back out because one time they accidentally put the wrong toppings in her salad and gave her a $10 credit, so only $5 more for two live bugs seems to not make sense. Honestly, we all felt she was kind of brushed off and on top of that, it was 3 fresh salads out the window and no desire to go to that sweetgreen again knowing that we have to sacrifice CLEANLINESS for FRESHNESS. Simple and short: I really liked the salad I got from sweetgreen. The dressings made a huge difference from other not so bad salads around this area. The price was kinda bummer, you can't pay $11 to $15 dollars every time you are craving a good salad. They have unquestionable notoriety and it may seem like their offerings are second to none, as far as healthy salad/bowl chain options go. But what once may have been an innovation, is now a tired and old, capitalistic regime that pumps out poor quality food and lies to the masses. It is disgustingly overrated and sad. But because they have established such a strong foothold, people willingly turn a blind eye when emptying their pockets because they are scared of change. And while their ingredients look somewhat normal and taste edible, the portions are egregiously mischaracterized by glossed up pictures and promotions. I ordered two separate types of chicken, expecting my bowl to be represented with a hefty amount of protein. But to my dismay, I was greeted by what could've been a store bought, prepackaged salad (the ones that come with sporks). The amount of chicken amounted to roughly 2.5 bites, without any other ingredients in each bite. To top it all off my avocado, which could have been quite possibly the smallest half avocado I've ever witnessed, was hollowed out past the pit boundary, making it less that it already was. If you have any sort of self-dignity left, I implore you to pursue other healthy salad/bowl alternatives. I've always thought sweetgreen was a bit on the pricier side for a salad, but didn't realize that a customized bowl could only cost ~$10 and be split into two meals! My coworkers love to come here during lunch hours, and there's always a line out the door everyday without fail. The service is ok, probably because they're so busy with the flood of customers everyday. The salad tastes much better than it looks! I added almost everything that didn't cost extra (aka "premium") - but that's all the good stuff, like eggs and avocado and bacon! Although my salad was devoid of those, the sauces they had were super delicious. I picked a citrus aioli and another one of their sesame ginger vinaigrette! They also ask you if you want slices of bread (free!) that I gladly accepted. The salad tasted fresh and really flavorful because of the house made sauces, but I wasn't a huge fan of the bread - it was definitely a few days old and really tough to rip apart or even chew, which is no wonder they were giving it out. Otherwise, I was able to split the salad into two meals, so it was really cost-effective and healthy. I'd come back another day for lunch! Additionally for every $99 dollars you spend you'll get $9 credit and $9 credit for your birthday. Might as well get credit versus just using your credit card at the cashier every time. They also started offering the option of having the salad mixed on the app for pickup instead of dressing on the side. Though I will say I often have to wait 5 minutes even if I am late for my pickup time (still better than waiting 10-15 minutes in line). Review is for the service/consistency not the salads themselves (which are quite good). They have very variable serving sizes. When you order by standing in line they will give heartier servings. But I've noticed when I order through the app the serving sizes vary from stingy to the regular portions I have come to expect. The cashiers additionally charge different amounts every time I have gone through the line (versus when you pay through the app) and I have to remind them of substitions that shouldn't cost me extra (like subbing parmesan which already a "premium" item on their menu for brussel sprouts). read more

Favorite salad place ever! I'm lucky this place is legit right next to my apartment but the line is always out the door. All the ingredients are as fresh as can be and sources specifically. I wish they had jalapeños but maybe one day. You can either order a hot or cold bowl or salad from their menu or you can build your own. The kale salad is by far my favorite. All of their salad dressings are homemade. The portions are huge and usually under 500 calories for everything. They ask if you want your dressing light medium or heavy which I think is brilliant and everyone should do that. They also throw in a piece of bread as well!
