I was here multiple times several years ago, and I realize the absence of a review sets a poor example for younger generations of Yelpers or even those who might enjoy an archive chronicling today's fast-casual Greek establishments. I got the beef-lamb platter and didn't realize it was just regular meat, not a gyro. I enjoyed the tzatziki and salad, plus the lemon potatoes, which are more readily found in Astoria-type classic restaurants rather than quick-serve spots. Years ago I liked the horiatiki. I don't recall all of my legacy dinners but I'll use this as a teachable moment to write quicker reviews. read more

Got lunch take out today, and although the food was pretty good, I felt it was way overpriced, even by Manhattan standards. I got the Greek salad, and it had good flavors, but the lettuce was a bit yellowed and the portion size was pretty small. i also had the vegetarian pita, which was good as well, but again, smallish portion size. The meal was a bit over $30, and I was left feeling hungry. I probably wouldn't reorder from Pita Press unless i am really craving Greek food and I can't find anything better in the area before then. read more

Growing up in and around Astoria, I get really weak for Greek and food sometimes. There are only about 2-3 spots for Greek food in the area, this being one of them. But it's not at the popularity level of Uncle Gussy's or GRK, mainly because of the shady-looking location--tell me I'm wrong. I've been here twice now and it does the job if you're craving Greek food. I am somewhat biased, as I've been spoiled by amazing Greek food in Astoria, but the quality here is average--you're also paying Manhattan prices and Manhattan lunch quality, so don't expect too much. I liked the juicy, tender cuts of the lamb and beef gyro, but it was heavily lacking in flavor. There wasn't enough tzatziki sauce and not much seasoning in the meats either. The serving size is also on the smaller side, so best to order a meal or a side if you have a big appetite. It seems that they heavily rely on online and phone orders, which I suppose the one of the reasons this place stays afloat. There aren't many customers ordering during lunch time and it's probably because it's so hidden. OK for a grab 'n go bite, but not my top choice for Greek in FiDi. read more

Using Yelp to search for Greek pitas my food travels takes me to the Financial District. My one pork pita $7.40 was very messy and the lettuce does not appear fresh. The Tzatziki sauce was mediocre. My pita was wrapped in a roll to be consumed on the go New York style. Desserts and traditional Greek sweets of Baklava and Kataifi are available including the popular rise of Greek yogurt. Note: No restroom facility on site. No utensil counter or napkin freely out in the open to dispense as all is distributed in your order. Since there are no restroom facility on site Pita Press should at least provide moist towelettes for patrons who do dine-in. Bring your own moist towelettes or hand sanitizer. Pita Press contains very minimal ledge (not table) seating available with stools as this eatery is designed for takeout. I am not overall impressed. read more

We regularly order Pita Press at work. My favorite dish there is the vegetarian pita wrap with the zucchini and pita fritters. There's the perfect proportion of veggies to fritter to Tzatziki. The pita is never soggy, and is wrapped in a way that it doesn't drip all over you. I also really like their vegan fritters with the fava bean dip. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wasn't a fan of their Baklava, which tasted stale and overly greasy the one time I ordered it. I ordered the chicken souvlaki platter during my last visit here and I'll have to say that it was mediocre at best. It wasn't the worst Greek platter that I've had, but it certainly wasn't the best. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a lady at the counter who wasn't exactly the friendliest. No biggie, since I came here for the food and not the service. Like I mentioned earlier, the platter did not exactly blow my expectations away. The "tzatziki" was especially disgusting since the consistency was reminiscent of old butter or cottage cheese. My friend went with a lamb and beef plate that comes with a side salad and pita. It was good and relatively inexpensive ($6.50 for a chicken sandwich/$9.75 or $8.75 for a plate pending on what meat you go with) but nothing wowed me. What I think surprised me the most for being a little greek take out place, they don't sell falafel. They do sell zucchini fritters, but no falafel. Wtf. I had the beef/lamb platter with beans. The woman in front wasn't very nice. The salad which accompanied it was fine though the dressing lacked some flavor. The pita was a little cool. I mean I don't mind having generic pita but at least heat it. In terms of the meat, it was actually pretty good. There was a good mix of fat and flavor. The side that came with it, the beans/gigantes, were OK. It had a light tomato sauce which didn't add much but at least the beans were soft. I might go back but this area has a ton of halal carts with much cheaper food with better service also. The spanokopita salad with greek yogurt dressing is my summer-body staple. Each leaf in the salad is precisely cut to fit into my small mouth. I came here for lunch and I was excited to finally try this place because I knew that this was a very popular lunch spot. I opted for the chicken souvlaki platter. They give a side salad when you order when you order a platter in addition to another side. I thought that was a great deal. Unfortunately, my whole meal was burnt. Ever since my first visit, this hopped onto my mental top 10 FiDi Hotspots list. It also happens to be located less than 4 blocks from work, which is gold because my bldg is surrounded by landmarks (and the corresponding tourist mobs). I normally alternate between the tomato fritters plate or sandwich, depending on how hungry I am, but have tried the zucchini feta fritters plate and the Zeus greek yogurt smoothie once. The zucchini fritters are equally crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but not as flavorful as the tomato kind. The Zeus smoothie (with berries, cranberry, ground walnuts, wheat germ and cinnamon) is probably good but a tad too sour for my tastes. Unfortunately, I have yet to add Greek yogurt to my food vocabulary and cannot say much on this. My favorite remains as the tomato fritter plate with their lemon potatoes as the side. I love the fresh zesty romaine salad it comes with and the pita is always addicting. The quality of food given at this quantity just can't be beat. If you like croquettes (and c'mon, who doesn't), get the fritters! My friend has told me their salads are worth trying so when I don't feel like stuffing my face in the summer heat, I will go down that part of the menu. I have visited Pita Press twice for lunch. I have not eaten there. This place is efficient. Even when the line was long, they kept people moving and called out their numbers very quickly. I first sampled the zucchini feta fritter plate (complete with lemon roasted potatoes.) It was really, really good and really, really filling. It came with pita, salad, and tzatziki sauce. This was a lot of food and it was all very well prepared and seemed very fresh. The fritters are REALLY good. The second time I visited, I had the Greek fries, which were deliciously crispy and very nicely seasoned with a bit of feta, oregano, and perhaps some lemon as well. I munched through the entire bag on my walk back to work. The best thing about the fries is that they are crispy and not at all soggy. I'll keep coming here. The food from here is great! read more

We usually get food from Pita Press for lunchtime meetings. I have had their chicken with roasted potatoes, salad and tzatziki. I live how they season and cook the chicken! The potatoes are good too, but sometimes they are undercooked. The salad and tzatziki are my favorite, as well as the pita bread that usually comes warm. This review is strictly on delivery. I have never been inside this establishment. I order delivery from here when I am at work a few times a month. I LOVE their food. For my side I nearly almost always get the giant baked beans. Those are absolutely my favorite. If I ever find a nice young greek man, whose parents come from Greece, I'm doing everything I can to win him over so he can introduce me to his Greek family, and I can go over for dinner. That's how this place makes me feel. This place makes me want to go Greece and it makes me want to marry a handsome dark haired, light eyed, greek man. I know it's crazy how food can do that to you. I've tried all the options listed under plates. I have zero complaints. My favorite is the roasted chicken. So moist and flavorful!! Today I tried the Bifteki. It was good, but I'm not certain what meat they used to make the burger. Maybe if I knew greek, I would know. Where is that Greek Man when I need him? Haha. The only complaint I have is that they put their food in cardboard boxes and then wrap it in plastic wrap to deliver the food. You can't do that. It makes the cardboard damp and soggy.
