I was recommended this restaurant by some friends, so I decided to try it out. This place is a very cute little restaurant in downtown Oak Harbor. Edwin and I got there around lunch time seated right away, there wasn't a lot of people eating so it was nice. The server was quick and we were able to get our orders in. We ordered the crab rations for apps, and I got the chicken Phad Thai, and Edwin got the red curry with chicken. Both of the food came out in a reasonable time. I loved both of the flavors each dish brought and it was all quite filling. I would definitely recommend trying it out for some good Thai. read more

Was visiting Oak Harbor and dropped in for lunch. Started off with a Thai Ice Coffee (not too sweet and topped with half and half). Was a refreshing beverage on a warm day. For my lunch, I ordered the chicken Phad Thai which came with a side salad and fried spring roll. The noodles had good flavor and when topped with some of their chili oil was really really good. Would definitely come back if I'm back in the area. Staff was friendly which is always a plus. read more

The food was so delicious my sis enjoyed her pineapple shrimp fried rice but they did mess up one of our dishes so it was awkward. I feel like when that happens they should only charge half for that dish. I did eat all of my drunken noodles/pad si ew I cant spell. I wish their outdoor seating was larger we had to eat inside on a beautiful summer evening. read more

I enjoy Sweet Rice. As a vegan, I often get the fried tofu and that, alone, is pretty filling. I've had a couple of different curry dishes and enjoy both the pineapple and peanut curry dishes (although "no spice" is still too spicy for me!-- I'm a little over-sensitive...) I love the artwork and decor in this restaurant because it feels very authentic. Wooden carvings and other pieces are abundant here. Hosts and wait people are always kind, patient, and helpful. This is a solid Thai eatery. read more

This establishment has changed ownership but they retained menu items from former owners plus extra special offerings for each month, we were told. The co-owner, Ploy, is super friendly and sweet. Hubby and I ordered the green papaya salad, cucumber salad, deep fried spring rolls and orange chicken with sauce on the side. Everything tasted wonderful and authentic. We also liked the sticky rice and mango for dessert. As usual, I ordered the Thai tea but they are awaiting their license for liquor so I didn't have the added vodka in my Thai tea. The restaurant is clean and refreshingly calm for diners. Our server Lucas as well as Ploy steadily checked to see if we need anything else. Lovely night of dining out even though the evening was a bit chilly outdoors. read more

Service is always excellent. Menu has stayed mostly the same, after change in ownership. But the chef is adding too much sugar to the sauces, like cashew chicken. Too sweet! Beef quality in pepper steak has changed, not as good as in past. Will give them some time & try them again in a month. Every new business has to have adjustment time. read more

Really good Thai food. The staff is incredibly kind, and it is refreshing to have a good service yet again... Inside the restaurant is really pretty and thoughtfully well done. I actually had the option to sit on the balcony overlooking the ocean on a sunny day! Since this was my first time to eat at sweet rice, I ordered their famous peanut curry. Red-based curry with heavy peanut influence. Solid proportion of vegetables to the protein... I ordered Thai spicy and it was not at all. So I ordered a side of Thai chili peppers in fish oil, which made up the difference. The dish itself had an overarching sweetness to it, which I have not had before... and I think it overwhelmed the dish just a bit... I will have to go back and try another dish or two, and see if their name runs throughout all of their dishes. That being said, it is a return place for sure! Obviously they have influence from northern Thailand. read more

Sweet Rice - Peanut curry for lunch... $12.45 - Thai Near Me - Oak Harbor, Washington

Tasteful and fresh food. I appreciate the work they put into their food. There are a lot of things to choose from and they allow for spice level from 0 to 5 for each dish. The service was attentive and pleasant. The prices were modest and affordable. I have no complaints as to the ambiance. Good for groups or good for couples. read more

I'd heard as I was walking into the restaurant on my most recent visit that they had changed ownership and to expect what had already been good food to be even better. I was picking up food to take home but the service over the phone and also when I got to the restaurant was super friendly. The food was delicious. My gal pal and I split Phad Thai with chicken and the vegetarian delight (although we added chicken to make my friend happy) with an order of rice. I will say, the new "stars" for spice level has definitely changed so we did have a hotter experience on the phad thai at 2-stars, but it was still absolutely delicious! I was sitting in my easy chair at home contemplating my dinner and the available options to me. At home I could make a tuna fish sandwich on Russian Rye, I could order pizza or wings, or both delivered. Or, I could get my lazy butt out of the easy chair and go grocery shopping or eat at a restaurant. I chose the restaurant route. My next choice was the cuisine. I had been thinking about Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken all day and decided it would be my dinner. Normally I go to 1-2-3 Thai when I eat Pineapple Fried Rice, but I decided to go somewhere else tonight and I picked Sweet Rice on Pioneer Way. I ordered some Spring Rolls for my appetizer and the Pineapple Fried Rice for dinner. I arrived right at 5:00 pm when they re-opened for dinner, so no waiting to be seated and my food selections were brought fairly quickly. The Spring Rolls arrived first. They were nice and hot. The roll was light and crisp and the filling was very tasty. I really enjoyed them. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken spice level 4 stars out of 4 (a.k.a. Thai Hot). Anyone that has read my reviews knows I enjoy spicy food. This "Thai Hot" Fried Rice wasn't all that hot... to me. The was a noticeable spicy flavor, but didn't precipitate any sweat nor any sinus draining. So I was mildly disappointed. However, the Fried Rice was very tasty! It had just the right amount of cashews, and Pineapple. There was a small wedge of lime and garnished with a few sprigs of cilantro (I think). The staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and would not hesitate to eat here again. read more

We love this place. Best Thai food in Oak Harbor! Great service every time. We came here for our anniversary this time and had Tiger Cries salad, Pineapple Curry with duck which is not on the menu anymore but they sometimes have it available and it didn't disappoint. We also ordered the crab Rangoon and Thom Ka soup. All was delicious. Can't wait to come back for more. read more

Last week we stopped in for lunch while searching for vegan options. Due to COVID-19 the restaurant had limited seating inside. Staff were observing proper safety protocols. Hubby ordered the Veggie Delight with soft tofu. This was a great tasting dish. The veggies were nice and fresh and the sauce was very good but left you with a garlic breath. It is good for keeping vampires away. I ordered the orange tofu with brown rice. I have to say I have had a lot of Orange sauces all over the United States and this was the best orange sauce I ever had. And the veggies and tofu were perfect. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean. The prices were very reasonable. read more

Sweet Rice impresses me each and every time I'm there. The staff are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their dishes and appetizers are excellently proportioned, seasoned, and balanced across veggies and protein. This peanut curry is so delicious! The tofu had a good crisp on it that really worked well with the sauce, noodles, and veggies. We also got calamari and it's one of my favorite calamari of all time! Their ginger cosmo cocktail is such a phenomenal balance between tart and sweet. read more

You're going to order whatever you're going to order and wonder why they don't have a Michelin star (and honestly Michelin stars can ruin the authenticity of restaurants at times so thankfully they currently do not). The place is a bit low-key at this point. I've been going here for a few years and I go here every once in a while. When I do, it's a hit every single time, whether it's Panang Curry, Phad Thai, Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon, Sticky Rice, etc.. These are all pretty dang good dishes. You will not find a better Thai place on Whidbey than this spot right here. read more

Best Thai food outside of Thailand!! Found out chef really from Thailand. Worth trying to find parking.

Too spicy for mild. Tough beef. High prices for small portions. Not very flavorful pad ze ew and made with bean sprouts. Pineapple curry is made with tomatoes and canned pineapple and is virtually flavorless except for the taste of spice and coconut. The peanut curry tasted like if you liquified a cheap peanut protein bar and then added a gallon of siracha. If i could put 0 stars i would. This is not thai food it's fraud. read more

We had a not so delicious lunch here. I ordered the Tiger Cries Salad and it was not good. The steak definitely was not grilled over a flame and it was not a tenderloin. It was most likely a marinated flank steak that I see in lots of these photos with the curry. There was so much liquid at the bottom of the bowl that made the lettuce soggy. Not good at all. The glass noodles in the peanut curry were not glass noodles they were ramen noodles and the flavor was off. The sticky rice was good and the chicken tempura was good. It was our first time finally trying this place and unfortunately we won't be back. Prices are expensive and the food was lacking. read more

Sweet Rice never fails to please and we will continue going as often as possible! We've tried so many things on the menu and everything is always delicious and cooked to perfection! Sweet Rice is our favorite Thai restaurant. The food is authentic and delicious. The staff are very nice and helpful. Highly recommend them!

Very good service and good portion! Taste was good as well but more on the sour side overall which is not a bad thing and i actually enjoyed it quite a lot (pad thai, pad kee mow). Id recommend this place to anyone near the area! read more

Sweet Rice is my absolute favorite dinner location in Oak Harbor. The servers are so attentive and friendly. The food is absolutely amazing. My kids gobble down the Chicken Satay. The cucumber salad is always refreshing and crisp. If they have specials going on it is always a good idea to check out their offerings. If you are looking for fun cocktails the Ginger Lime Cosmo can be made "sweet" or "sour" and is delicious either way. The only trouble I have if deciding on which delicious meal to order as every dish is amazing. Located on the downtown street this location is perfect. read more

Ok. I've never been a fan of Thai food. My yayas set it up for my sister's birthday so I was "forced" to go. WOW, was I impressed. Everything my sister ordered was absolutely delicious. I order something "safe" the Vegetable dish. I loved the fried tofu and the sauce. But my favorite was the Thai chicken tempura. Very light battered, crispy, and awesome peanut sauce. And yes I have been back since. Curbside is great for this time,. At the moment call first and they are closed on Monday. read more

The most amazing food! And the people there are great! I can't get enough of their pad thai or their curry. The service was great but the curry was really thick and had an odd flavor. This is a really high 4 star place. The food is really, really amazing for Whidbey Island. There isn't much to choose from and to compare when it comes to Thai, and Sweet Rice wins it here. My husband and I love Authentic Asian food since we lived in the Far East for a few years, and we cry if it's mind blowing. We didn't cry here, but we seriously enjoy the food here more than almost any Asian place on the island. This is our go-to restaurant. Highlights: -Their Penang curry is fabulous, as well as probably all their curries (we hadn't tried them all yet) -My husband claims the fried tofu here is the best he's ever had so far when it comes to flavor. - Service is always gracious and friendly. Our drinks get refilled constantly. With all the spicy food, it can be a god send. - Ambient and casual setting - reasonable prices! Always a plus!! Craving Asian and on the island? This is your place!!! Check it out!! read more

It was a cold winter night and we came in expecting to be warmed up with flavorful Thai food. We ordered Thom Ka - chicken - spicy 2, for starters. I had green curry chicken - spicy 2, and my husband had Prakking Princess - chicken - spicy 3. It was indeed a comforting meal! Everything was well flavored. Spicy 3 was a suitable level for my husband. The spice lingered and built over each bite. The spicy 2 level was enough for me to just complement the flavor and add a hint of heat linger. read more

Ordered spring rolls, mai tai, and beef gold garlic dish...2 Star. Took about 5+ minutes to get my drink with one other table in the house and two people on the floor. Spring rolls are vegetarian but they are delicious and a good portion. Their sauce for the rolls is not the normal red, sweet sauce; it's better. Mai tai was made very well. Beef dish with white rice had the desired flavors and a light spicy kick, as I was hoping for with a 2 star heat request. Not crazy about all the julienned cabbage with the gold garlic dish but it was mild flavor. Overall a good experience and if I lived around here I would be back to try some other dishes for lunch and dinner. read more

This place is the best. The phad se ew (spelling??) is delicious and the spice levels are great but flavorful. Try the Thai iced tea!!

We were just driving through the town and stumbled upon this spot. The food and service far exceeded our expectations! Overall would recommend! read more

We just moved back and wanted Thai so we thought we would give it a try. The food is basic. Definitely nothing to write home about. I ordered the peanut curry and it had very little peanut flavor at all. The noodles were tacky and it all felt like it was microwaved leftovers. Not Impressed. read more

Painfully slow service. I have eaten here with my partner a few times, and every time our visit was almost 90 minutes, and not by choice. I felt captive since I was constantly waiting on the server. The meals took almost an hour to bring out, out beverages would go empty, and far too frequently, no waiter was visible to ask for refills. I am greatly disappointed with the service. One of the first visits, the restaurant was genuinely packed, and we waited for a table, so that first visit I saw as a result of being slammed. Subsequent visits have had far fewer patronage, and same lousy service. The food is OK. I have had the See Ew and Kee Mao here and boy for me, they needed more flavor and spice. I was able to load up on the table spice but I thought a spicy would have been that. It wasn't. The portion sizes were smaller than most other places around Oak Harbor that serves Thai. I have given this place a proper try, both my partner and I will likely not return to Sweet Rice. Reading other reviews, others have had the same issues so at least I know it's not because we are two gay men. read more
