BLUF: On the outside, the pastries looked beautiful and delish. On the inside, they didn't taste nearly as good as they looked. Worth the drive? Certainly not after this experience, which is really disappointing because I love good baked goods... and locally made baked goods would have been a distinct plus up! 3 stars for artistry only. And, just know, it pains me to write this review for a fledgling small biz, but hopefully this is helpful constructive motivation.
I couldn't wait to dive into the box of pastries!!!!! They looked sooo goooood, and I can't pass up a good pastry. So, I plunged in, cutting each one in half so that I could taste them all and not feel too guilty that I ate a whole box of pastries in one sitting.
Sadly, I wished I had resisted the temptation of these attractive baked goods. Not because I wished I had more to eat, but because I wished I hadn't eaten any. In sum, what I received weren't fresh. None of them. Dry, tough, stale, a little rancid tasting from all the butter maybe (though they didn't taste buttery and the box was deeply, darkly stained by the grease). A good-tasting pastry can retain some yum after a day or two, but unfortunately, I couldn't find residual yum in any of my pastries. One wasn't even filled with anything I could taste nor see. Had it dried up? Evaporated? I don't know. Had a hard time finding some flavor in the empty pastry. One had too much jam, which was too sweet and not very tasty in its coagulated, lumpy kinda way. The tart? Overbaked and burnt on the sides and edges.
I really wanted to enjoy every bite of each pastry, but I ended up very disappointed mostly because what we received was just not fresh. If I wanted to eat day-old baked goods, then we should have been charged for day-old baked goods rather than full price. I'm leaning toward a "no" from me on future purchases. I'm SO bummed. read more
