I thought our wait was a bit long for a day/time where we were the only customers who likely just placed an order in-house, waited more than 35 mins before our food got to table. There were 2 other groups there but they were already eating and looked like they were about done also. We ordered the loaded fries w/ fried chicken, a chicken sandwich, and mac and cheese. We really enjoyed the loaded fries and thought the chicken sandwich wasn't bad either. but the mac and cheese can definitely use more work. I rarely go to Williamsburg, but when I do this is usually where I like to end up before I head back to the city. The staff here is super friendly, the vibe is a lot more divey than the lower Eastside or LIC locations, but I like the artsy feel of this spot. I've brought some friends in who have never been to a Sweet Chick before, and they have been delighted with the food, which makes me happy for recommending them. I like some of the menu changes, since I don't eat chicken anymore, it's nice to have some fish options other than the shrimp and grits (which is my fave!) Going back to the vibe of the spot, It feels like a bit of an escape from the rush of the city here, always a good music selection playing and candlelight to calm your nerves. My husband and I decided to eat Sunday brunch here at this Williamsburg location because of the extra long wait (90 min) at their Manhattan location, which we opted out last weekend. I was really anxious to try Sweet Chick and after trying them, I must say, this place definitely lives up to the hype! Parking was moderately easy to find on Sunday because it's free everywhere and it is located in a res neighborhood. The wait was an hour and 8 minutes to be exact and they text you when your table is ready so you have 10 minutes to see the hostess. If you can't make it back in time, then you lose the table. Honestly, it was well worth the wait and I have no complaints at all. Mind you, there are no stores around the restaurant so we decided to stop by Fulton Mall (outdoor complex with 150+ retailers), which is about 10 miles (15 min away). We were able to go in 2 stores and then drove back to the restaurant to get to our table in the allotted time. And since we didn't get a chance to walk around all the stores, we decided it would be a good idea to go back after lunch to walk off our meal. Upon arrival, we were able to sit at the bar, which allowed us to watch the bar tender handle his business in a graceful manner. It was however, a little tight but the decorations were tasteful with a little hip hop flare. We ordered the white chicken chili and the chicken 'n waffles with a side of maple glazed bacon to share. This was no doubt the best fried chicken and waffles I've ever had in my entire life. The chicken was sweet and salty with amazing flavor and the waffles were fluffy and tasted very soft and moist. There were also 3 different types of butter along with maple syrup and hot sauce for the waffle. My husband said that his chili was the best he's ever eaten as well. The chili was a little spicy but the chicken tasted so moist and tender, that melted in our mouths. After hearing good things about Sweet Chick and seeing photos, my three friends and I were excited to stop in for brunch. But alas, we did not have a good experience. The decor and overall vibe of the place was welcoming and charming, but I was confused as to who worked there and who did not. We walked in and were not greeted, they just sort of looked at us and pointed at where to sit. We didn't wait long to have our order taken, so I figured it would be smooth sailing from there. Nope. My one friend and I ordered the chicken and waffle sandwich, and the waiter didn't even ask us which side we would prefer. We assumed it came with the shoestring fries so we left it alone. My other two friends ordered the same thing as us, but made it clear what side they wanted. After waiting about 25-30 minutes, my friend and I that ordered first got our food. Both of our plates had a side of potatoes (what I assume they call home fries.) My friend's plate was full, and mine sort of looked like I got what was on the bottom of the barrel. It wasn't until about 20 minutes later that my other two friends got their food. They got home fries as well, even when they asked for the sides they wanted specifically. "I'll put it in right now," the waiter said, as if he didn't even listen before. By the time everything came, our food was cold and I didn't even want it anymore. The food wasn't bad though, I just wish I could've had it hot. When we received the check, we were charged for the extra side that they messed up. Luckily, after we said something about the wait they took it off. Apparently it was a "miscommunication in the kitchen." Heard this was a cool brunch spot so we trekked to Williamsburg to see what the hype was about. We had no problem with the 45 minute wait and were texted when a table for 2 was finally available. My wife and I happened upon this place while exploring Williamsburg after I'd mentioned seeing it on Yelp the day before and commenting on how good it sounded. Walking in, the excitement within Sweet Chick matched the excitement I possessed for this meal. Having traveled the South, and knowing Sweet Chick's reputation in the city, I was eager to give their chicken and waffles a go..... and boy were they disappointing. Nothing about this plate was Southern: the portions were mediocre, the bone-in chicken was kind of dry (albeit crispy), the sauce a horrifying mistake for chicken and waffles (my own for trusting the vision), and their blueberry and lemon butter accoutrements were out of place. The quality of the dishes was little better than had they come from a random diner in Virginia (which isn't even Southern) and the absent waitstaff was completely void of any hospitality--but ultimately it was the "bacon and cheddar" waffles that were so offensive: haphazardly discarding a meager dash of bacon into the waffle batter as it pours in the mold and then dropping a sprinkling of white cheddar afterwards so it doesn't even melt are lazy practices. This is NYC's premiere restaurant for southern inspired chicken and waffles, and they couldn't be bothered to make a dedicated, seasoned batch for the day that allows the batter to really highlight its ingredients? Although it didn't make me sick--unlike Jacob's Pickles (I'm still not over that)--I'm begging NYC to please just try a little. Act like you care, honestly. There is a great variety of chicken and waffle items, like chicken parm, and these items are matched with a specific waffle. The waffles are beautifully prepared - light, fuffy, and sweet. I really need to get the recipe for the batter that is used at Sweet Chick. The service is pretty on point and the server will make recommendations based on what you like because there is quite a bit if food on the menu. Plus, they have daily specials writen on the board. Sometimes the lines (or rather, the wait) can be very long - ~45+ minutes. However, I've noticed that the wait times have not been as bad since other Sweet Chicks have opened in NYC. Finally made it to Sweet Chick in Williamsburg and I must say it was worth the wait. Got there around 2pm on a Saturday and the wait was 45mins-hour for 2 people, so come early and expect a wait! I had the eggs Benny which has shredded smoked chicken and smoked ham on a biscuit and came with home fries. I was disappointed to learn that you could not take the ham off, apparently it's made together or already mixed? (minus 1star). So if you don't eat pork, unfortunately this dish is off limits. However, I really wanted to try it so I still ordered it. This was one of the BEST renditions of Eggs Benedict that I've ever tried. It was so much shredded chicken, which was tender and had lots of seasoning and flavor. The biscuit it came on was also to die for! Buttery and soft, and paired great with the eggs. My BF had eggs and toast, but also ordered the biscuit and gravy with chicken which was super delicious. The biscuits may have been the best part of the meal! I didn't get a drink but my BF had the sweet tea and Raved about it. All in all, would definitely visit sweet chick again, definitely for the shredded chicken eggs Benny and maybe to try the chicken and waffles that everyone raves about. read more
