I've been looking for a great bakery for years and I finally found it. Owned by a local couple, Sweet Beginnings is a great mix of traditional and modern treats. My family and I have ordered several cakes from here ranging in simple chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream to a bit more involved almond & espresso cake with chocolate ganache. The bakery is our go-to for celebrations. They are very accommodating with orders and even have cakes to purchase right out of the cooler for last-minute treats. Regardless of what we have ordered, the cakes are always perfectly moist. The buttercream, which I'm quite picky about, has a great consistency and flavor; never overly sweet. We usually stick to cakes, but we have tried cupcakes, seasonal goodies and cookies, too. All of which have had the same great quality. I haven't ordered any carved or stacked cakes yet, but from the look of their Instagram, they are very talented at decorating, too. The bakery itself is welcoming and clean. There are a couple of display cases facing the door and one to the left side of the room with other options. There is a cute room to the right with wedding cake and other large celebratory mock ups. Although I haven't explored the room closer, I'm guessing it is for tasting and ordering large cakes. The service, in person and on the phone, is friendly and knowledgeable. Who can say no to baked goods!? Found this shop on a whim and they have a great selection of baked goods. I had the bavarian cream eclair and the custard was SO good! Sweet Beginnings made the cake for our wedding. The cake itself was absolutely delicious. Chocolate with a chocolate mousse filling and a white cake with raspberry filing. So good. In person the cake also looked good. We just had a very simple white icing with flowers that matched our bouquets between the layers. Upon looking at the photos, though, I've realized that there were spots where there were missing flowers and where the icing was kind of messed up. Clearly it wasn't a huge deal because I didn't notice until we got the photos back later, but clearly it wasn't perfect. Very nice people at the shop, though, and they were accommodating of the fact that I had to come in for an appointment a month or so earlier than they normally schedule for weddings, as I was planning from New England. read more

I have recommended this bakery often. I've had several cakes from here including an incredible "mistake cake." But, 48 hours notice for a simple cake without a ton of decorations is stupid. My son wanted a chocolate cake with blue frosting. 24 hours notice seems more appropriate. I wouldn't bother if you are a busy person. read more

My daughter and I went to a bridal show over a year ago and found Sweet Beginnings. We had taste tested six bakeries that day and knew we had to have Sweet Beginnings for her wedding. The wedding was this past Saturday and we certainly made the right choice. We had two flavors, chocolate and funfetti and each was excellent. I am extremely disappointed in my experience at Sweet Beginnings. My mother called and spoke to Jamie to set up a time to come in while I am in town to find out more information about what they offer for wedding cakes. Jamie explained that she did not have time for a consultation but that we could come in and she would quickly show us the showroom & cake photo albums. When we arrived we had let the women at the front desk know we were in to look at wedding cakes and to touch base with Jamie. When the women at the front desk went to speak to Jamie she loudly exclaimed (in a room next to where we were standing with the door open) "I told her she could come in to take pictures. I never said I would meet her or that I would talk to her!" We were sooo taken back! We let the women know that we heard Jamie and that we would just go online to look. The women at the front desk was SO NICE and apologized a number of times about the miscommunication and for them being busy. She seemed embarrassed about what was said. I scrambled looking for a bakery that could deliver with just a little over 48 hours' notice. They came through, with mixed berry pies that were spot on! Not too sweet, not too tart. I tasted one of their cakes at a birthday party, and it was good, so I decided to visit and see what they had for sale in their cases. I bought a small traditional cake with white buttercream frosting and a bear claw. It came to $12 and change. *The bear claw was terribly dry and didn't have any almond paste in it. *The cake was dry, and both the cake and frosting tasted old. Very disappointing. read more

This little bakery is amazing-anything we have ever gotten there has been delicious and fresh-but my latest purchase "takes the cake" so to speak... My husband ordered my birthday cake there-my request was for cheesecake. He got "the mistake" which is a bottom layer of any flavor cheesecake, middle layer of the filling of your choice,top layer of regular cake of your choice, all frosted with whatever type if icing you want. Mine was plain cheesecake,choc mousse filling,vanilla almond cake frosted in choc buttercream-obviously very rich, you just need a small piece-but absolutely out if this world!! When I got married in Buffalo in August 2013, I wanted to order a groom's cake for my husband and I had heard great things about Sweet Beginnings Bakery. I set up an appointment during a time that I was going to be in town (we were planning our wedding from out of state) and they were very accommodating. I am not sure who I sat down with for the consultation, but he was wonderful...enthusiastic and very friendly. I had a cake design in mind and when I showed it to him, he said that it would be no problem! Needless to say my husband loved his Xbox cake that you guys made and it was a big hit at our rehearsal dinner and with his groomsmen. Even the people at the restaurant we held our rehearsal dinner at were impressed by the cake. I stopped in here last week for the first time on a whim. I wanted to pick up a tasty little treat for my other half on the way home from work. I was hoping to find a cannoli to purchase, however I was disappointed upon gazing through the glass and finding zilch. I decided to settle on a colossal chocolate chip cookie cupcake, topped mile high with frosting. It was even accented with a charming fall scarecrow surrounded by leaves, smiling back at me. For $3.50, I was set. I proudly gallivanted home with my delightful finding. After dinner, I couldn't wait for us to dive into the cookie-cupcake (hoping we would make it to the bottom through all the frosting). To our dismay, it was not tasty at all. The cookie cupcake was ROCK HARD. Such a disappointment. Not only did it taste stale, it tasted days old. I have had baked goods sit around the house for a couple days that tasted better than that. I had to microwave it in order to make it edible. After a couple of unsatisfied bites, it was tossed into the garbage. I really expected more from a bakery like this (there were wedding cakes on display all over inside). Needless to say, Tops or Wegman's bakery would have sufficed. Heck, I should have just whipped up a batch of something myself. I guess I will give it 2 stars instead of 1, just because I have only been there once and tried one item. I have been trying to really like this bakery. They are, however, hit or miss. The first item I bought there was a pumpkin pie...and it was delicious. So delicious that I went around to everyone in my office bragging about it. The next week, my boss asked me to pick up an apple pie from them. I placed it on his desk, and there is a hair dead in the middle of the crumb crust...how embarrassing. I called to complain, and the person on the phone wasn't even phased by my problem. She just kept offering a new one to me...which I accepted. I have to it was a pretty good Apple pie....crust was golden and insides cooked to perfection...perfect amount of spice and flavor. I didn't give up on them...in the weeks to follow my office kept ordering from them. One week their food was they were spot on, the next their food was dry or overcooked. Their customer service, quite honestly, isn't that great either. One day I went in to complain and had to stand there for 10 mins while the owners wife babbled to one of her customers about their upcoming trip to Disney and how they're coming up on ten years in that location and are trying to determine whether or not to buy the building...either was I was completely ignored. Thanksgiving came and I decided to give them one more shot and bought a chocolate cream and pumpkin pie for my family....chocolate cream was spot on....pumpkin had very little filling and the spice was overwhelming. That said Sweet Beginnings is a great bakery if you do not expect consistency with their food on a weekly basis. Their pricing is pretty decent, however, they really need to work on their customer service. read more

Ordered a birthday cake with a softball theme for an 11 yr old girl and it was perfect.! A yellow softball with red stitching on a partial ball diamond with outfield and blue sky. A work of art! And taste? Yellow moist cake with chocolate mousse filling. The icing was buttery fresh and left NO greasy taste in your mouth. While ordering the cake we bought a butter ring (best taste EVER!) plus a peanut butter mousse volcano and some macaroons. Everything was of excellent quality. Our wedding cake was 4-tiered and had a lot of black decor on it and it was perfect! To this day, we get so many compliments on it. This past new year we asked for a replica of our wedding cake on a 8-inch cake, and OMG! it was gorgeous. Our wedding cake was banana with butter cream filling, and marble with fudge filling.
