Food was great, service was not. We were in only ones in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes to get two calzones. The calzones were so good it bumped up the review from a 3 to 4 star review. Waitress was alright, didn't seem super interested in quick service considering we were literally the only ones there and it was so slow. read more

Had one of the specials tonight and it was delicious. Baked sole with tomatoes, shallots, garlic, and basil. This should go on the menu or be a regular special. It was fresh and light, very good! My husband loves the calzones, he gets them almost every visit.. Tonight was no different and he was so happy with it. Service was good our server was friendly. read more

Sweet Basil - One of the specials tonight and calzone in the background - Italian Near Me - Tully, New York

Yep! 5 stars! Had a pizza there last night with a few magic hats ales and a merlot. Awesome place! Excellent food and service! Won me over! A great craft beer selection! read more

I have been to this restaurant before and had decent food and service but tonight I experienced something I never have at a restaurant before. We had made a reservation for 4 and at the last minute a 5th friend joined us so we showed up and said we were here but had added a 5th person. The hostess said this might be a problem because they they have limited 5 tops but said she'd check. When she came back, instead of saying there would be a longer wait or offering an alternative, etc, she simply said, "we can not accommodate your group this evening." If she had said, it would be an hour or longer and we could wait at the bar, we might have considered staying but with the bluntness of her tone, we'll never be back. Too bad, nice spot that we had frequented fairly often in the past. read more

The other night marks last time I ever step foot in Sweet Basil or give the owner a cent of my money... After my last horrible review the owner reached out to me asking me to take it down and give them another chance.. I respected her and did so and gave her another chance... over the last year that I have been giving them a chance and EVERY time I have ordered my order has never been right during take out and even when dinning in. Tonight drew the last straw and the last dollar I will ever give that place. I ordered 12 BBQ Chicken wings and when I got home I opened them up to find that they were plan ( I have a picture if anyone can tell me how to attach it I couldn't figure it out how.) Second I ordered my child a kids menu meal the side for it I picked fries he got 9 single fries, 9 fries!!!! Lastly I ordered a calzone with pineapple, ham, cheese and no ricotta with sauce on the side. I got a calzone with pineapple, ham, cheese and lots of ricotta! My last 6 orders from this place have been messed up and i have called overtime, its always an I'm sorry we have some new cooks or an Im sorry this must have happened. I took the food back and I wasn't giving them another chance this time they gave me the refund and I left and won't ever step another foot in the place. From talking to people Im not the only one this is happening to. I hope the guy that was looking to buy across from burger king to make the small banquet hall and italian restaurant does it he would have my business ! read more

We love this place. My wife always gets the Carmalized Pecan Salad. For me I always evaluate the specials of the day. We've never been disappointed. read more

The food is decent but I have had horrible service there on more than one occasion. We had a reservation once and still had to wait an hour to be seated. When we were seated we were seated separately (there were only 7 of us). So they didn't prepare well. Also another time just two of us ate there the waitress was really rude and actually slammed one of our drinks on the table when we complained that she hadn't brought us our drinks yet (it had been a good 30 minutes since we ordered our drinks) We were trying to be polite, we just wanted our drinks. After that we asked if we could speak to her manager and she told us no. I could list a couple more issues we had with that particular waitress but to keep it short she was very rude. We ended up asking someone else to let us speak to the manager. The manager apologized and said she would address it but nothing else was done and we don't know if the waitress was ever spoken to. We never went back after that. read more

Food is mediocre, beware that to go pizza has a $2.99 to go charge and a pasta meal has a $1.99 to go charge, prices are already high here but this puts it over the top for me. read more

Great food, these people can cook, the owner always has specials,My son eats there a lot and so does a lot of our friends, some say they are not cheap, I say good food is no cheap, It cost a lot to run a business, they also cater my sons wedding and did a great job.I guarantee if you go there you will return again. read more

I have experience in the restaurant world and we eat out frequently. I also like to recognize good restaurants. This was the second time we ate here, the service was fair, it was hard to find the waitress and it took a long time for her to check on our meals and to return to get the check. The worst part was that the steak was cooked medium well instead of medium rare. Very big difference! When the waitress saw the steak she agreed it was not cooked as ordered and she said she would inform the kitchen. Then she never returned. Since he was hungry and she never returned he ate most of the overcooked steak, assuming that there would be some type of adjustment to the bill as compensation and not wanting to be wasteful. When the bill arrived there was no adjustment, when asked about this, the waitress told us that she would check into it. When she returned she said the manager said it was cooked properly (based on an incorrect explanation about juices) and since he ate it there would be no adjustment to the bill. Terrible management decision, we will not be returning. Poor customer service and management. read more

The food is pretty good. The service is beyond terrible. It takes forever to get a table, even though there are tables waiting to be cleaned off. You wait over an hour for your food every time and the waitresses never check on you. The cooks and managers need to learn a new system because it's beyond awful. My restaurant would never let it be longer then a half hour and if it is, the managers are running over to say they're sorry and give free food. read more

I was recommended to this restaurant from a client of mine. I made reservations, arrived at my reservation time and was promptly seated. Upon entering it was a nice decor, almost seamed like half a pizza shop and the other half was casual dining. It took almost 15 minutes for a waitress to greet us and take a drink order. Another 15 minutes for her to come back and take a food order, although she was very sweet. We ordered the sampler appetizer, surf and turf, and shrimp scampi. We were not allowed to sub any salads for the house salad that comes with the meal and was charged full price for the salad of our choice. The appetizer came with breaded fried mushrooms, onion rings, and spinach dip. Presentation of the appetizer was a D minus, the food looked and tasted like they opened up a bag of freezer products, threw it in a fryer and with oil still dripping tossed it in a fast food basket with some wax paper. The spinach dip was bland and tasted like it was from a can. The only tasty item on this sampler was the BAJA homemade dipping sauce, which i was not allowed to know the main ingredients says the waitress, Thank God I didn't have a food allergy. Before finishing our pizza shop style appetizers, we were bombarded with the salads. Pecan with leafy greens, cranberries and feta crumbles. I must admit this salad was good. Probably the best part of the meal. About halfway through our salads, here comes the main entrees. With no apologies the waitress attempted to put the plates down as we are mid bite of our salads. We thought which was rude. Now on to the entrees, can any one say just shy of hospital food. The surf and turf was a 8 oz petite sirloin (asked for medium) and broiled shrimp. Came out well done and was more like Bland shoe leather and rubbery shrimp. Mashed potatoes looked good except the canned beef gravy on top, they were soupy and Bland. Also a side of coleslaw which looks like it had been sitting for a week. For the Shrimp Scampi, it was a pound of angel hair pasta drenched in butter and parsley, super bland with 5 rubbery shrimp on top that spent way to much time in the broiler. This was recommended as a Casual Dining Restaurant. This place is a half step up from a pizza place. The food was bland, the wait staff (by the way looked like they were in high school) were way more interested in their cell phones and the local kids from the high school to be bothered with clearing away any dishes or a table that had finished 20 minutes prior with food still on the table. The decor is nice, there is an eeriness to the place, no background music, very awkward. Overall rating C - . read more

Don't waste your time. The food isn't dreadful, but it's meh at best. The decore is tacky right down to the mismatched wallpapers and hideous light fixtures. What really makes this place a waste is the truly terrible service. My husband and I are locals and have given this restaurant multiple tries, always in the hopes that the next time would be better. Unfortunately we have yet (out of 3 times) to have a good experience. The waitstaff, which seems to mainly consist of younger women, are far more interested in chatting than working. If a person they know walks in, forget it. Tonight I was treated to a 15 minute soliloquy from our waitress to her friend about Sears delivering a washing machine while my husband patiently sat waiting for the condiment he had requested 20 minutes prior. I had to flag down a hostess after a half hour just to get our server's attention. If they were packed to the rafters and she was busy working, I would understand. I was a waitress for years and it's a thankless job. However, when you can waste time chatting away (and make a few trips to the kitchen to gossip with coworkers) rather than doing the job you're paid to do, you lose my sympathy. TLDR; Bad ambiance, mediocre food, horrible service. Take your business to one of the better eateries in the area. Your wallet and stomach will thank you. read more

This restaurant is good if your looking for good food. But the lack of service is terrible. We got 5 slices of bread it was Burnt. Also the manager lied to me by saying that he came to the table three times and he only came once. And we had to leave because we did not get our food after 2 hours of waiting so it was not Worth the drive. read more

Food and service is very inconsistent, unpredictable. We live nearby and have been there many times, as there is such a limited choice. Calzones and pasta dishes are generally very good, generous portions. Do NOT order a sirloin steak. Tried it twice, months apart, and both times the meat was so spoiled you could smell it the minute you cut it. And there is an "up charge" for everything. $1 for extra salad dressing, $5 if you want Alfredo instead of marinara, for example. Ordered a side Caesar salad once and got garden greens with crumbled Bleu cheese and Caesar dressing because the waitress did not know what a Caesar salad was. Bread only comes with PASTA dinners, none of the others, and then you have to ask for it. If you order a "special", you get it their way. No substituting one side for another, no leaving anything off the sandwich, etc. Every time you go there are new faces. The owner is such a b#%=× to work for, not many stay long, and she obviously invests little effort in training. This could be a gold mine if it were managed well. Small town businesses need to take care of locals. Word gets around. read more

The food here is alright but the service is terrible!! Twice they have made the wrong pizza and when I called to complain they would not answer their phone. I have also tried to dine-in there twice, at 9 o'clock and once at 9:15 and they told me they were closing, even though their hours are until 10. Pizza and more is right around the corner and has much better food and service !!! read more

My husband and I stopped here for a late lunch last Thursday while traveling to Canada. He ordered the Italian Nachos and I had the Bruschetta Chicken Salad. The food was very good - super tasty - and I would definitely order it again. I am only giving this three stars though because the service was poor. I think our server seemed inexperienced. She was much more interested in holding conversations than waiting tables and I noticed several other tables other than ours who were neglected. I would give this place another shot, hoping for better service. read more

This restaurant is amazing I have travelled the world and this local place is fantastic had the crab crusted haddock it was amazing. Danielle my server was a 10 the bar for a pre drink was friendly and they even put on my requested channel for the channel that I wanted I will be back read more

Food was good as always Service went downhill After paying our $105 bill plus $25 tip and within minutes of getting our last drink we were told we needed to leave so the table could be turned We happen to be in food service and with thousands of miles of dining have NEVER been asked to leave to flip a table especially when there is still a part of dinner to be finished 8/5/2016 read more

Came for dinner. Service is really slow. They said they had a waitress call in and most of the others were college students that left. Meal finally arrived and it was very good Louisiana pasta was fresh with a fair amount of sausage and shrimp. The peppers were diced but seemed fresh. Others had haddock sandwich which was good and fetta pasta which was a good sized portion. Overall meal was very good. Service needs help read more

I'm the type of person who would rather cook at home because most restaurants are not as good as home cookin', this place impressed me.

Nice restaurant with a quaint atmosphere. Food is average, steaks were the special of the day and we were disappointed for the $24.99 price they were not tender. Waitress was very friendly and did her best on a very busy day. read more

This us a favorite place to come. A nice drive from Syracuse, especially in the Fall. Food is always good. Lots of choices. Asparagus is offered as a side which is a rare treat. Gluten Free pizza was good and reasonably priced. Restaurant is most always busy, thus the dining room is quite noisy. Our server Amanda got a workout last visit keeping many tables happy. But, she did a great job. Try Sweet Basil, if you are in the area. And, then treat yourself to ice cream at one of two ice cream shops nearby. read more

I've only been once with coworkers. Everyone enjoyed their meal but the service was subpar. The beer list was quite good but comes by the bottle. The menu had a surprising number of cuisine options but mostly relied on crowd pleaders. Great option considering the area. The asparagus was spot on! read more

Stopped here instead of going all the way to Syracuse. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The chicken Riggies were amazing and it was nice enough we sat outside. Just perfect!! read more

My husband and I randomly stopped here on the way from Canada back to MD. This was the best pizza we've ever had in our lives. Everything is fresh and made right there. Absolutely delicious. Super nice staff, great service, cute atmosphere. Converted house and all the tables are tables like you'd have at home (not restaurant-type tables), so you feel at home. Very reasonable prices, especially considering the great quality of food. Absolutely loved this place. It would be dangerous if we lived near it :) Very highly recommend! read more

The food has always been delicious. Portions seem inadequate relative to the price. $15-$20 meals for a small town restaurant. No drinks, one appetizer, two dinners = $50 not including tip. Side of vegetables costs $3 and it was literally 5 broccoli crowns. No option to swap out the salad. And no vegetables available during lunch hour. read more

We have come several times. It's pretty consistent. The food is very, very good but the service is generally awful. The waitresses are always sweet but horribly slow. They also always seem frazzled. We usually end up missing something that was ordered. read more

Spent two hours waiting for my order. By the time the first dinner appeared half the party had to leave. One person never got his order, never got the coffee he asked for. It was not a pleasant evening waiting for service to initially appear, and drink orders to finally arrive - took several trips to get it close to right, and then another hour and a quarter waiting for food to appear. No offer of bread, no refills on wine or anything else. I don't plan on going back. Had the diner been open on Sunday night, we would all have been home in bed by the time the first dinner arrived at the Sweet Basil. read more

Went here originally for pick up and they forgot my side (asparagus), that I payed an extra 2$ for, so I called them and they said I could pick it up which is completely out of my way to back track. They didn't even offer me a refund for it. The next time I got pick up from them I thought that maybe that was a one time mistake so I ordered Alfredo pasta with scallops and mushrooms added to it, additional charges of 10$. I received no mushrooms in my pasta and only 4 scallops when usually many more are given (especially upon additional charges). An employee even insulted my boyfriend who picked it up for me about his choice of clothing. Not happy. read more

I would like to first start out that I have never written a review on a restaurant before. My family and my husbands family flew in from out of town to celebrate our wedding last weekend. We went here for our rehearsal dinner and from the moment we walked in, our waitress extremely rude. We heard great things about this place but we made reservations for 25 guest at 5:00 and was given attitude that we were late, arriving at 5:30. Our reservations were at 5:30 and if they did not think we were coming, as we were told, they should have called us. The tables were not set up to fill our party, the waitress was rude to all of our guest from start to finish. She gave my husband attitude and told him that the reservation was for 20-25 people, which it was because I made it. We had 2 guest arrive late because they were traveling from out of town which only made the number of people to 23, so I am not sure what attitude was about, once again. We were all very disappointed and this was embarrassing for my husband and I especially this being the first time a lot of our friends and family have been in upstate New York. The food was great but this was supposed to be a dinner to remember being our rehearsal dinner but all we will remember is the horrible service. read more
