You know how even bad pizza is usually pretty good? I'm not sure that's true here. The pizza here used to be pretty decent, and we got it a lot. Last night we got takeout and it tasted like a cardboard grocery store crust with mediocre cheese and hardly any toppings. I ate one piece. I never only eat one piece of pizza. Furthermore the lettuce in the Caesar salad was so icky and wilted in spots that I didn't feel safe eating it and had to throw it all out. And the boneless wings were mostly cold and had no blue cheese. Oof. I guess it's worth it to drive a little more to get better pizza now. read more

There chicken wings are way way too expensive. $12 for 6 and they slice a round pizza like they're trying to make someone with OCD go postal. read more

Delicious. Loved the scallops picata and the riggies. Good prices. Good service good speed of service.

A party of 7 at 5:45 on a Thursday is never a easy thing. These guys were up to the task. Our server had a great sense of humor and was super attentive for our entire stay. We shared a appetizer sampler that was made up of jalapeño poppers, cheese sticks and potato skins. Platter was a bit small for the price. Everyone had different diner selections and we all enjoyed our selections. I had the Philly cheesesteak. The portion was good sized and the flavor was good. The overall experience satisfactory. The server (can't remember her name) and beer selection pushed this from a 3 star to a 4 read more

Homey feeling. Great tasting food. Italian chicken riggies are wonderful! Friendly. Small town for a walk after dinner.

The food was excellent, good size portions for the price. The waitress we wound up with was Jada. She came over and took our drink order, brought them out and then disappeared after giving us menus to look over. Luckily, there was another waitress who was taking care of a nearby table and saw that we were ready to order so she took our order and gave it to Jada to place. The food was delivered quickly, it was fresh and hot. However, never once did Jada return to check on how everything was or ifwe needed anything. She has no customer service skills and it's obvious being a waitress is not her thing. If you can get another waitress to take care of you while here, I would highly recommend stopping by. read more

Service is lack luster. Had to ask server to introduce herself. Charged me a dollar for extra marinara. What are you McDonald's? Food is generic and over priced. Of all my visits there have been major flaws with the main entree protein preparation. Alcoholic beverages are cheeper down the street. I would rather make my own wings and pizza... At least then I KNOW it will be delicious and for the right price. Elm street is better. I would not send my family here, or friends. Go to happy China, at least they smile. I won't ever go back again, I'm done wasting my money. read more

The menu has a lot of Italian food and classic American dishes. The pizza is really good and so are the wings. The calzones are huge, like three meal huge. The spot is in a house so it's unique. Also have a very nice outdoor eating spot. Not too much to pick from in Tully but this place is worth a try. read more

We stopped by here on our way back to NYC from Buffalo. We did a random restaurant search and stumbled into this little town and quaint restaurant. The restaurant is in an old red house looking building. The inside is okay, not as cute or cozy as I was hoping -- just functional. I have to admit that I actually thought it was going to be a Thai food restaurant. On the west coast anything called "Sweet Basil" would be a Thai food. This is an Italian/pizza place that also has a small bar area. We came by on a Sunday when their menu is more limited so I am not sure we got a full flavor of the place. We didn't want pizza so we got pasta, sandwiches, and salads. The food was pretty darn bland. The meatball sub tasted exactly the same as the baked penne. But there were lots of locals there so maybe the pizza is good. It did look pretty inviting.... Nothing to go out of your way for, but they have a great beer selection. read more

We were cruising around in our convertible Sunday looking for a place to have lunch. Years ago we stopped at a cute place there and wondered if it was still open. Very happy it was. Our lunch was delicious and our waitress,Megan, was fabulous. I had the California chicken wrap with asparagus and sun dried tomatoes....superb! My husband has the fried haddock sandwich. Very very good. We will definitely be back! read more

Nice little find in the village of Tully. Casual fare with a very good selection of craft beer and a wide selection of menu options. Went for dinner on a recent Saturday evening and we easily found a table inside the entrance. There is seating both inside and out here. I had the smoked prime rib sandwich which included peppers - a basil mayonnaise and was smothered in cheese. Perhaps a little too much as it didn't sit too well in me later that evening. My wife had the special that evening- Lip Smacking Bacon Mac N Cheese(which included pulled pork). She liked it a lot and said how hearty it was. Our server, Michelle was very attentive as she balances our needs with several other tables she was working. I would recommend Sweet Basil to others and look forward to stopping here again down the road. read more

Sweet Basil - Italian Near Me - Tully, New York

I have been a regular customer of Sweet Basil since it first opened. I won't eat there because it is to cramped and even with reservations, I have had long waits. Take out works great for me. However. I was quite shocked when I got home Tuesday with the skimpiest of toppings I have ever had. There was not even 1 of each topping on each piece of pizza. I am hoping this was a fluke. If my next pizza looks like this last one, it will be the last time I order from what has been up until now my favorite pizza joint. read more

We were traveling and find this restaurant searching on the internet. It was easy to find. First impression: nice and clean (specially the bathrooms) and the decoration in side is so cute. Service: well, the lady was not very welcoming. We wait a for like 10 minutes. We got our table and she was very helpful with the menu. The waiting for the food was not to long. The food was very well present it. The flavor very very very good. SPECIALLY THE DELICIOUS HOME MADE CHIPS. I never had Chips like that. The sandwich is was a good size for two people. And the salad was fresh and love the blue cheese dressing. We will comeback for good food and chips. The waiters was very nice during the ordering and serving of the food. read more

Been here several times for lunch and think it's a pleasant place. My review is similar to lots of other people who think the food is good, but the service is lacking. Recently had a fried haddock sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The fish and the fries were tasty. The cole slaw, however, was the complete opposite: one of the WORST things ever put in front of me! I've never had anything that bad in any other restaurant. It tasted old, musty and was clearly about to spoil. Inexcusable. I've never seen a manager (or at least someone who acts like a manager) here, and the service suffers as a result. The atmosphere is of a place without a steady hand at the helm. It's difficult to get a server to acknowledge you after entering; once they do, they seem surprised to see a guest there, are unsure as to where to seat you, how to offer menu suggestions, to carry on any conversation, etc. Dining here is an odd experience, due solely to the limited people skills I encounter at Sweet Basil. To sum it up: the food is pretty good; the service needs to be improved. read more

Not my favorite place in Tully to eat. The food is great but the service is slowwwwwwwww. Prices are also higher than youd think for such a small town with nothing going on. My family of 6 easily drops $80 here and that's without alcohol. Dont expect anything quickly though, not a spot for a quick bite. Not even close. read more

Great place, plus it's the only place in town where you can eat good food and have a beer. Recommend the salads and pasta...very accommodating...especially when I didn't want cream sauce. read more

The food is great and consistent, the service is okay. However, it's visited by a lot of locals and if you look around town...it's really the only restaurant serving that kind of food. Otherwise you have a Chinese take out, a pizza shop (very good pizza as well), a breakfast/lunch spot, and not much else. I manage restaurants and I'm trained as a chef at The Culinary Institute of America so I kind of know what to look for. If you are expecting fine dining look elsewhere, if you want good food you'll find it at The Sweet Basil. While service is sketchy occasionally it stems from a lack of training not desire. read more

Probably one of the best sounding menus in town but unfortunately they don't seem very interested in customers. Our family (all adults) were in town for a week and of the three times we came here, only once were we able to be seated for dinner despite plenty of empty tables each time. The first two times we were asked if we had reservations (no) and then we were told they were full for the rest of the night. Seriously? Since there was plenty of available seating both inside and outside, maybe they are understaffed and don't want to work too hard? We really wanted to try their food so the third time we made a reservation (after someone finally picked up the phone after many rings and then being left on hold for a long time) and when we arrived, pretty much the same amount of empty tables and (since we had a reservation) we were seated. Saw other customers arrive and be turned away despite empty tables. Food: large portions. Flavor: good and but not great, though one of our party did love the Greek salad and so we all tried it and agreed it was better than the entrees - four cheese mac n cheese, salmon. Steak at an adjoining table looked and smelled very tasty and we may come back to try it but really aren't sure since being turned away twice was a big turnoff, our food was underwhelming so it seems like this place is an iffy choice. However, the desserts were great, so maybe better as a place to grab a drink and dessert. The peanut butter pie was absolutely delicious. Beverages: a nice selection of craft beers. Server was friendly and stopped back to check but not overly attentive. Overall, it's a cute place with a nice menu but I don't think employees are very interested in seating customers even when there are empty tables. Not sure why. Seems like they just aren't too worried or just don't care. Disappointed except for that pie. read more

Sweet Basil - Dining room - Italian Near Me - Tully, New York

Dining in is always good but too many times when we order food to pick-up, the order is wrong and late. Our last experience, I placed my order online. The order was not ready until 30 minutes after the pickup time from their website, the order was wrong and they charged more than the price in my email confirmation. read more

Typically i order for pickup - I have never had an issue ordering from here, food is always ready when they say it will be and exactly as I've ordered it, service is friendly and food is fantastic - definitely try their pizza and wings if you haven't yet! read more

So, my family and I went to The Sweet Basil tonight to get a seafood pizza. They were out of lobster. I asked if we could get a seafood pizza with double crab in place of the lobster. On the plus side yes, yes we could. On the negative side there would be a five dollar up charge. Ummmm, not sure I get the math here. We asked to speak to the owner but he was on the line and couldn't be bothered. I've gone out of my way to go to this restaurant. That will no longer be the case. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would but sadly that is not an option. To quote a customer one price for pizza and then to tell them a week later upon placing an order for the same pizza that they were misquoted and charged and by the way, could they pay for the balance of what they were incorrectly charged for previously is outrageous. This business knows nothing about customer service and should be thankful for the business they do have in such a small town. The best part is that they don't seem to care how they treat their customers. This review is less about letting them know their faults as it is clear by their continued ignorance that they don't care, but more about letting others know if they want a good experience when they go out, they should most certainly go elsewhere. read more

I came here Thursday after skiing with a buddy of mine. We were seated and we weren't even greeted by a server after about 25 min. I tried to get the attention of the staff several times and even made eye contact with a server but it was like we were invisible! I have no idea how good the food is, but the service was terrible. After being there for almost half an hour, I walked out without even having a glass of water. I will not be coming back, and I suggest you don't bother. read more

I have eaten here a few times the food is pretty good for the price the staff is usually super friendly except for today we went there for lunch the 1 and 3 year olds were served last! And our waitress which was a older lady was rude and acted like we were bothering her when asked for anything we got up charged a dollar for a side of ranch dressing and another dollar for a side of tarter sauce which if we knew we were being charged that for a side of dressing I could have gone without... My sister got a salad instead of a wrap she ordered and not so much as a I'm sorry for messing up your order... I used to eat here regularly. The food is usually very good. Within the last couple of years, things have gone downhill fast. We've seen some horrible, rude service. We stopped in on a night when it was expected to rain, and the wind was kicking up. No less than three times, we had to tell the waitress we did not want to sit outside, while she explained that "it wasn't that bad out there". We have waited a very long time for our food. They are busy, so I thought I would try take-out pizza instead. I ordered a "large deluxe" to go.. at a shocking price of over $50.00. We won't be buying anything there again. read more

I have not been so disappointment in a restaurant as I am with my recent experience at Sweet Basil! This was the first time that I had visit the restaurant in a could of years, since my first visit I always raved about how great of a dining experience it was. However, after tonight another word of praise will never come from me again about this establishment. We waited almost 15 mins to be seated and basically got silverware and menus thrown at us and told to find a seat on the patio on the far side. Okay, get it busy so we follow directions. Once our food was ordered we literally waited over an hour! I want to tell you that we ordered some amazing meals and that they took extra time to cook- that is NOT the case. Literally an burger, calzone and chicken parm sub. In the time it took to receive our food we never saw our waitress, she never came to see how we were or if we needed drinks, if we had she would have known that we were empty well before our food arrived. Once our food did arrive, only after I finally went and asked about the status, my onion rings were still partially frozen, the calzone did not come with sauce, and no refills on drinks, even after they were requested. We were also clearly not the only ones with frustration of the service and wait time. For we were the first ones to get food in the entire time that we were seated out on the patio and that includes people that were seated before us. We even witnessed another table's pizza come out and it be completely wrong and they originally sent it back. Then once they realized the wait it was going to be to receive the correct order they accepted the mistake! There was no apologize for the wait! I visited with my husband and our 2 daughters (1 & 7), I will say I am impressed that my kids sat as well as they. I made my dissatisfaction very clear the waiter and she literally shrugged off and didn't seemed bother by it, so I am guessing that the restaurant isn't going to bothered by my review either. read more

Yelp review worthy! Looking for a place to eat while traveling I-81 through NY. SWEET BASIL sounded and looked like a good choice based on ratings. Nothing bad on the menu. Food was fabulous as was our server Michele. If it wasn't a 4 hr trip from home I'd probably come back weekly; heck still might. we had wings w alabama sauce, personal pan pizza, chicken wraps w asparagus and sauce (?) and i personally had baked pasta dish in iron skillet, w homemade meatballs all very very good! read more

Traveling through Tully, N.Y. headed home to York. Ready for dinner we came upon a super cute looking place. Started of with a fresh side salad and Ruben egg rolls. They come highly recommended!! We have tried this restaurant several times. The food is good and the portions are generous. The service however, is seriously lacking. More often than not, servers do not know the menu, make mistakes, and are slow to serve. We have taken friends there for dinner and have been embarrassed for making the recommendation. We believe in giving restaurants a chance to improve but it seems they just don't care. read more

The food is good to very good but the Hostess and service needs serious work. We used to go a couple times a month now its once every couple months. If it wasn't for the food we wouldn't go back. The food is great but the service is fair at best and it's rare that you have consistent decent service. Seems like there is high turnover of wait staff here. Don't see the same people working there all of the time. My last visit, i called in an order of wings. Was told it would be 30 minutes. I got to the restaurant at about the thirty minute mark. I waited another 30 minutes before my order was ready. It appeared that they did not cook enough wings in the order as the wait staff gave the cooks the wrong order. I was told me that they will void my check and I did receive the wings for free. Want to support a local business but it's tough with the high turnover. read more

I've eaten here a few times and the food has always been consistent. The staff is friendly and they have a great beer selection with most beer $4 and under. The garlic pizza is great. They have a few different styles of chicken wings and they are all good. I've also had a couple pasta dishes and the haddock Florentine. It's all been good with no complaints at all. We went because they have gluten free pizza and pasta and my daughter cannot eat wheat. Her pasta was overcooked. I ordered a steak sandwich with Greens which the waitress said were like Utica greens but they had no peppers of any kind and tasted very bitter. Steak sandwich was ok. So, I read a ton of reviews about the bad service at this restaurant. We decided to go, because the reviews said the food was very good. Well, This place was AWESOME.. Our server, Garrett was very attentive. Always on point. We were seated within a minute. The Reuben egg roll was delicious. My husband ordered the ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. I had the broiled captains platter. WONDERFUL, the clams were breaded, which Garrett told me about and they were HUGE, meaty and delicious. We ordered carrot cake to go, HOMEMADE no doubt. So creamy and yummy. If you have read all those negative comments about service, they took note, and fixed the problems. It's a must go to place. There is something for everyone. From burgers, pizza to excellent steaks and seafood. Go there, you won't regret it. read more
