Weird flavors but was excited to try them out. When we got there I asked for a sample and they told me that because of covid they could not let people sample. That force me to choose the most "normal" flavor they had: "watermelon sorbet" but I think they should rename it to: "watermelon with a side of butt" or "wet chalk with a side of watermeon" that's how it tasted. This review would probably be different if the store was currently allowing samples. The girl working was helpful in describing flavors to me. I went with the best seller which was salted caramel (I normally love this flavor). I couldn't have more than a bite because I found it way too sweet and not at all edible. I tried my boyfriends milkshake and it was equally as terrible. It was also quite pricey for a milkshake and a small scoop of ice cream. Well, if Stranny's Whiskey Brickle (with real whisky from down the street!), biscuits and jelly (with real biscuits!), thai tea, or Olathe sweet corn/Palisade Peach sound good- you're in for a big treat. We had a quick midweek visit as our introduction to Sweet Action Ice Cream. I've been watching their rotating flavors for a few weeks and we were going to be nearby so it was time to give them a try. They are being extremely cautious and are taking social distancing very, very seriously. They only allowed up to five people in their storefront at one time. Works for me. I don't have to elbow anyone to see the cases of ice cream. Their staff was great! One person even used their elbow to ring up our entire order which was impressive. We tried the salted butterscotch and peanut butter pretzel as well as a root beer float. Truth be told, I just had to go look up the flavors because the peanut butter pretzel that I was dying to try was not memorable at all. But on the flip side, the salted butterscotch was sooooo good! I've told multiple people about it since I ate it. My husband really liked the root beer they provided for his float and made a note for himself so it must have been good. This is definitely a spot we would try again as a few of the rotating flavors were definitely calling my name. read more

I live a couple blocks from the Broadway location and try to only go on special occasions just because it's very easy to spend a lot of money on ice cream. So I went in tonight after not having been in a couple months and they must be trying to do some remodeling. They built a wall in front of the ice cream so you no longer can see what you're getting, turn off number one. Turn off number two. The new freezers the ice cream is in have these lid doors that the staff open and close and with the emptiness of the shop and, I am assuming, this new wall the loud slamming noise is too much. Turn off number three the only menu of what flavors they are serving is on the wall by the door. So when you get in line you have to constantly turn around to read the menu and they use many different colors to write the names of the flavors and the darker colors are difficult to read. Overall by the time you get to the front of the line you are turning around, away from the staff member, to read what you want while you cannot see what the ice cream looks like as the freezer lids are being slammed open and shut from The staff member helping the person in front of you. The nicest part of sweet actions awesome unique flavors was seeing what they look like. Not anymore. read more

It used to be that you could see the flavors on the wall to your left upon entering and then be reminded a the glass case. Now they is a 4 foot wall and you bc annoy see the ice cream. This is our favorite ice cream shop in Denver by far. Tonight we came by for dessert after dinner nearby. Upon entering there is a huge chalkboard with flavors and prices. There is plenty of staff to help you pick a flavor (or many flavors) and I like how they are happy to let you try samples of as many flavors as you want. We each got a milkshake...my wife's was cornbread and honey (really good) and mine was peanut butter cup and smores (also very good). They have seating inside but we chose to get ours to go. I came across the shop after seeing a film at the nearby Mayan Theater. The large garage door windows out front were open, and the smell of sugar pulled me right inside. Being lactose intolerant, I was hoping they would have a few sorbet selections, so was delighted when I found out they had quite a few dairy-free flavors to choose from. I ultimately decided on the Vegan Cantaloupe flavor, single scoop in a sugar cone. The ice cream was absolutely delicious. Creamy, smooth, and bursting with cantaloupe flavor, it really felt like I was biting into a slice of the ripest cantaloupe I've ever had. Staff was all very friendly, and the shop was very clean. If I ever find myself in the area again, I will definitely come back for more vegan ice cream. read more

Honestly it probably gets 3 stars because it sells ice cream, which is better than most stores which don't sell ice cream. They do have cool flavors, so if you're in to that then def check it out. One that looked super cool was almond cardamom (shoutout to GBBS ) but I accidentally ordered before seeing that one so I didn't actually try it. I didn't think the ice cream itself was super creamy which is why I can only give 3 stars, is because I'd take a fatty creamy vanilla over a less-creamy-but-cool-flavor any day! It didn't feel as dense and smooth as some other places, so I'll probably go somewhere else instead next time. read more

I got a double scoop to-go (everything is to-go now because of COVID), and look forward to coming back. I had one scoop of the stranahan's whiskey brickle and one scoop of the salted butterscotch. I wouldnt recommend the whiskey brickle. I thought it was supposed to have toffee bits in it but it was completely smooth and plain. No evidence (taste, texture or site) of anything in the ice cream. It still tasted fine but it was very underwhelming. The salted butterscotch was great and redeemed the ice cream! Their ice cream is smooth and creamy, almost reminiscent of a middle ground between soft serve and regular scoop ice cream. Service was friendly and they're taking smart COVID precautions. The staff member cut her finger while filling up a pint for my order. Her finger was dripping blood. She served me that pint that had blood smeared down the side, 4 cones with blood on the napkin and blood went dripping into the take out bag. Then 2 out of 3 staff were confused as to what the problem was and why they needed to throw it all away. I asked for a manager and was told there was not a manager available. This was gross and a major health code violation. There should NEVER be a time when a customer has to train the staff on incidents with bodily fluids. read more

I have only been to Sweet Action a few times and each visit leaves me less impressed. Some of Sweet Action's ice cream and assorted flavors can be downright decadent, luscious, and distinctive - Double Almond and Milk Chocolate are very good classic flavors done right. However, the Peppermint Patty and Cafe de Olla were unimpressive, lacking the creaminess and velvety goodness that makes ice cream a real treat. The other offerings on a recent Sunday afternoon seemed a bit conventional; except for the Baklava and the Tequila Jalapeno Cream Cheese, the remaining options were unexpectedly humdrum. And then there is the cleanliness factor. All the surface areas in the customer seating area were nasty. The tables were gluey from ice cream drippings and had plenty of crumbs from cone detritus from the previous customers; the stainless steel bar counter top, with seating facing Broadway, was no better. The floor was a whole other level of griminess - along with the aforementioned mess on the table tops and counter - the floor looked like it hadn't been mopped down in a while. One might excuse the unkempt seating area if the place were mobbed, however, it seemed like there were plenty of employees behind the counter chatting and not that busy. I'm definitely not in a rush to get back to Sweet Action, but if I'm in the neighborhood I might check in on them again to see if they've upped their game, with their ice cream and their attention to cleanliness. read more

Walking towards Sweet Action there's a cute garage pull up window that you can seat on a stool to enjoy your ice cream on a nice sunny day. As you walk into the shop there's a wall menu on which flavors they're serving for that day. They also have ice cream sandwiches in their freezer or pints of ice cream ready to go. There's a bunch of unique flavors to choose from and if you can't decide just ask for a tasting. I tried coffee cake, red velvet and their Thai ice tea.... decisions, decisions, so hard especially all of the flavors tasted so good. Oh Look! They even carry vegan ice cream too... let me try the huckleberry ice cream! Perfect that's the ice cream flavor I had chosen. It was very creamy filled with huckleberry and the good thing is that it's not too sweet. So, if you don't want any mediocre ice cream shop! Stop by Sweet Action! read more

We decided to come here over Little Man Ice Cream because I read that only tourists go to Little Man, and I am so glad we did! The Voodoo Doughnuts of ice cream. We're lucky because the lines weren't even halfway long when we decided to have dessert from a dessert-less bar. The one thing that caught my attention was mainly the hot fudge because hot fudge is something I've always been selective with and seeing that on the difficult to choose menu, I knew I was sold out.
