They were definitely understaffed and I felt really bad for the lady cranking out the long line. Wasn't a big fan of the ice cream we got and would opt for some other ice cream places in DEN!
Sweet action cake highly recommended by a friend -- and it did not disappoint! One of the yummiest ice cream scoops I've ever had. I can't remember the name of the flavor, but it had Oreos. It was creamy, rich, and I chocolate-y enough. I went late in the evening (maybe an hour before closing) + parking wasn't too bad (right across the street). It's a super cute establishment! I can't wait to go back.
Got some ice cream here after seeing a comedy show next-door, the staff was really nice and the place was cute with a few small tables in the back I tried a few different ice creams before deciding, including the Beetlejuice, leftover from Halloween, but i felt they were lacking in flavor. It was just very soft, Then I tried the salted butterscotch and felt it had a lot more zap to it. I wanted to split my scoop with two flavors, but at that point I had already tried three or four flavors and didn't want to keep asking to try more lol. So I got the salted butterscotch and tried the cake explosion without sampling it first. I was a little disappointed by it, I felt it was also a little lackluster in flavor, but with the salted butterscotch, it was good
I absolutely adore this chic little ice cream joint. It's located right on Broadway in a very eclectic part of town. It's a very queer area and the LGBTG patrons are my tribe. I feel comfortable among my kind, that's for sure. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The place is clean, well organized and I really enjoy the huge open window space looking out on Broadway. It's a great way to people watch, enjoy the evening and eat ice cream. I ordered a scoop of pina colada sorbet in a waffle cone and it was pure heaven. Creamy, smooth, cold and yummy. I love this area of Broadway and now I have yet another reason to spend time among my people.
If you're in broadway and looking for something sweet, come to Sweet Action. They have a nice selection of flavors to choose from and they have a nice variety of GF and Vegan choices. They have samples to try. It's a nice little spot with plenty of seating. A nice place if you're looking for dessert after dinner. I got the banana toffee and that was actually really delicious. However, when I sampled it, I didn't taste any chocolate chips but it did come with chocolate so not my cup of tea. Otherwise, it tasted like banana bread as ice cream. The flavors do change so there's always something new to try.
After a mid-day walk on the hottest day in over 2 weeks, I needed a place to sit and cool off. Since there are few shaded benches on Broadway, I came to Sweet Action. I noticed 2 new alcoholic ice creams &1 alcholic sorbet plus new ice creams. I chose the Coffee Road with coffee ice cream and pecans. The server mentioned that it had pecans in it. She said some customers recently complained about the nuts but didn't read the menu board. It clearly indicates nuts. Maybe scanning phone screens too much, people are losing comprehension skills. The Ice cream was smooth and a little sweet with crunchy pecans. Plenty of indoor seating with their unique garage door counter. You can buy pints and I saw new dairy-free frozen desserts in a cookie. Also new pup cups. They do not accept tips and only take credit/debit cards.
I love Sweet Action! They have the absolute best flavors and EVERYONE can find a flavor that they like. They also have ice cream sammies and stooper dupers! A strooper duper is an ice cream sammie made with their housemade version of a stroopwaffel, housemade caramel, and sweet cream ice cream! It is absolutely delicious!! My favorite ice creams right now are Thai Tea and Vietnamese Coffee.
Yes, Sweet Action is a bit pricey for ice cream but is heavenly and 100% worth it IMHO. I got one of their seasonal flavors of orange cardamom (and I believe something else I'm forgetting what it was) and it was amazing. None of their flavors were too overpowering and they meshed really well. In short, this ice cream is awesome.
My daughter had a craving for a nice milk shake. After having a dinner at an exquisite French restaurant only 5 minutes away, we came here for a little scoop of ice cream and an exquisite milk shake. And Sweet Action actioned to take care of us!! This place doesn't have a massive selection of ice cream to choose from. But they have interesting/intriguing flavors no other ice cream places have such as Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle, Strawberry Chamomile, Lavender Caramel to name a few. What's great is that each flavor is marked with V for vegan, GF for gluten free; I appreciate this conscientiousness to serve people with dietary restrictions. This place is so generous about giving out samples/tasters. My daughter asked a sample of three different flavors; the young lady behind the counter said, "No problem!!" They truly want you go have the flavor that suits your palate. My daughter picked Lavender Caramel and something else for her milk shake; I chose Colorado's proudest, Stranahan's Whiskey in a kiddy cup. They surely took care of our sweet tooth after our dinner; this ended up being an exquisite action to end our night!!
As someone who can't have dairy at the moment, I was really excited to see how many vegan options they had available. Some were sorbets but there was also a lot of other chocolate based flavours. The waffle cones are quite brittle and thin but I actually enjoyed that and thought it paired well with the ice cream. The one scoop is very generous and the staff was very pleasant/friendly. The space was big and in a cool area of town to explore afterwards.
This place is so cute and the ice cream is yummy! I like how they stay open pretty late. The service was awesome, she allowed us to try as many flavors as we wanted until we chose what we liked. She also shared which were the best sellers, with an overall great attitude she seemed very happy to help which always makes experiences that much better. Salted butterscotch is a 10/10! Me and my friends loved our ice cream.
Super cute spot with great service. All the flavors sound so cool !! I don't feel like I choose any basic flavors. Everything was amazing.
After being back in denver for a couple years I finally made my way to Sweet Action on Broadway! And it just have been in the stars because right after we got there the line grew by 10 people. Must be why they limit tasters to two flavors, totally makes sense now. I tried Gansito and Cold Brew and they were out of this world. The flavors were outstanding yet not too sweet and it was oh so creamy. Love the garage door opening where you can sit at the counter and get some quality people watching. Add this one to your list!
Reviews are largely positive. Many highlight the inventive rotating flavors, friendly and helpful staff, and a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Vegan and gluten-free options are also appreciated.

Such good ice cream! They're also the friendliest and very family friendly. There's endless options to choose from in terms of flavors and toppings, and the portions are pretty big. There were 3 of us and we all shared one bowl and it was more than enough! Service is great, you don't wait too long and it's nice enjoying it indoors away from the Denver sun read more

Had the strawberry chamomile, and it was sooo good! Might be my new favorite flavor. I heard so many good things about this shop that I had to try it myself! Thankfully there wasn't a long line, so it was a quick stop. The shop is in such a cute little area too. I definitely recommend sitting outside! read more
Environmentalists and hippies will admire and praise this place, as they follow a sustainable business model. They also use compostable and recyclable packaging. They resource fresh ingredients from local sources, including the most important of them all, fresh Colorado dairy. I also think about where the ingredients come from, but for other reasons: taste, health and support of local businesses. During a hot summer day, ice cream naturally came to mind. We have our go-to place for frozen custard, but this was convenient for us. Packed with patrons trying to cool off, seating was limited with only a few tables available. My favorite part is the open bar arrangement, indulge in ice cream and people watch strolling the sidewalk. The staff was very pleasant and let me taste a few flavors. I like how they have some unique ones, and apparently routinely change. I ordered the Stranahan's, in a form of a shake. It was delicious, but in all honesty, once you have frozen custard, it's almost impossible to dethrone. I would have named this place "Sweet Ass Ice Cream" for its delicious and sweet treats, but I'm sure some mother would frown at this. Great ice cream with appreciation for the local community. read more
Colorado has one of the warmest summers. Denver in particular has no shortage of ice cream shops at all. In the Broadway area Sweet Action is an oasis where you will find happy people winning the battle with this heat! Sweet Action is made in CO. Sourced and handmade with all the other good stuff that goes with it. Like compostable and recyclable packaging. But they start with the most basic fresh CO dairy! Mooooo! Or COOOOOO..!:) We did the scoop and milkshake route. I had two scoops of their Ginger flavored ice cream. They didn't disappoint. This was spicy but just enough. It comes and goes. Creamy. Otherwise it's useless to me if it's not. Company's milkshake was raved about all the way to the trash receptacle which didn't take that long. It was the Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle. Yeah it's CO whiskey with pieces of butter brickle toffee! ***Two Signature Flavors*** The most famous-Butterscotch. Second most famous-Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle. A few chairs inside otherwise you can stand outside and enjoy! read more

I saw the high reviews on Yelp and it was also mentioned in some other foodie list I had read, so I knew this was a must-visit when in town. This place is known for its cool flavors! There was a small line, but it moved really quickly. The staff here are super nice. They encouraged me to try as many flavors as I desired and even told me that once they didn't have a line and 7 women tried every single flavor they had and there's a bunch! This was not told as a horror story, but more like an encouragement. This was something they told was cool/funny, so I happily obliged and tried several flavors...because the flavors here are bonkers in the best way possible! I loved it. The goat cheese flavor blew my mind; it was so so so good. I really couldn't find a good flavor to pair it with though. I wish I could have paired this flavor with Portland's Salt & Straw's Olive Oil flavor because that would work SO well! But alas, these two top ice cream shops are not in the same city -- for now! But heads up Sweet Action, maybe a sea salt olive oil flavor would be so amazing or truffle olive oil? Anyway, the crowd here was really cool and friendly too, as well as the staff who were in a great mood and seemed to enjoy their workplace! It's $4 for one scoop or $5 for two scoops, so well...yeah, I got a double of course. :) I wish I would have ordered two scoops of that goat cheese flavor. It's been over a week and I'm still thinking about it. This should be a must stop on any Denver trip. Plus the line is nowhere near as crazy as Little Man. I did try both ice cream shops and I definitely preferred this ice cream to Little Man. The Goat Cheese flavor is perfect. read more

The innovation of the flavors at Sweet Action is very impressive as well as variety of non dairy/vegan flavors. I got a scoop of their vegan chocolate walnut brownie with the vegan chocolate sauce and almonds on top. The ice cream was impressive with the blondies but definitely needed the sauce and almonds on top as the base wasn't extremely rich in flavor. A cute inside with plenty of places to sit. read more

I really didn't need dessert on the night we came to Sweet Action Ice Cream. I was more than full. For some reason, I couldn't pass up a highly rated ice cream shop that happened to be on our way home. We did the usual sampling to aid my indecisive self. Whiskey brickle stood out, obviously. As well as a decent selection of vegan options. Salted butterscotch was another attention getter because that salty + sweet combo always hits the spot. Some other cool flavors like lemon ricotta were out, as well. I didn't regret my choice to indulge here at all. Double scoop was devoured in no time! read more

Definitely limited selection given COVID, but they still had some interesting flavors. I only wish COVID didn't prevent trying samples. I was too hesitant to commit to their flavors like red miso caramel and hatch green chili. I ended up with scout (chocolate mint) and Thai spice (vegan coconut, lemongrass, and ginger). Chocolate mint was not too sweet and tasted like a thin mint. Thai spice had strong coconut, but very little spice in it. I wish they were more heavy handed on the spices. read more

I love this place! Went last night and there were a lot interesting flavors. I was boring and got mint chocolate chip, but with marshmallow topping and she roasted it for me! I also took one of the cookie sandwiches home with me and it was so good! Saw on the packaging after i ate it that it was dairy-free and vegan (i am neither) and had no idea. Very impressed read more
I got the Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle based on a recommendation. The first bit had the essence of whiskey but after it just tasted like sweet cream. Maybe it was the sprinkles that changed the flavor? Black pepper wasn't anything too special. My partner got a large sundae and it was put in a cup so all the components were layered and had to be eaten from top to bottom. One of the layers was the Andes mint ice cream and it was so minty it overpowered the rest of the flavors. We were generally under impressed. read more
Given the Yelpy consensus I had the highest of sky high expectations for Sweet Action, and while my experience might have just come down to flavor selection, I'll admit that I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Sweet Action Ice Cream has a great little shop with lots of space and both fast and friendly service. The flavors are right there for you to breathe in, and they're generous with samples and quick to burn through what can at times grow into a lengthy line. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? A single scoop of Sweet Action's salted butterscotch ran me $4.25, which was exceptionally reasonable especially since I'm used to paying upwards of $6.00 for something similar in Los Angeles. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'll be honest, this salted butterscotch just didn't do it for me. Neither the saltiness that I'm used to having at say Salt & Straw or the creaminess that you can find at Van Leeuwen's came through here at Sweet Action, and while it could have been because I showed up late in the day, everything seemed a bit over frozen. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? You've got good ice cream at Sweet Action, but not what I would call great ice cream given how competitive the market is these days. No Star. read more

Here's something cool to think about on this freezing evening in November. Sweet Action Ice Cream is one of our favorites in Denver for over 9 years! Conveniently close to where we live, this ice cream parlor is located in the heart of Broadway. There's even a rainbow-colored crosswalk welcoming you across the street to this heavenly place! The flavors are ever-changing and quite inventive! Last week I tried the sweet and spicy "mascarpone chile blackberry". Of course they always offer more conventional flavors too. Bob recently tried their "chocolate compost" which comprised of chocolate ice cream with leftover cake and candies. They also carry quite a variety of vegan flavors. They use all natural Colorado based products. All of their packaging and containers are either compostable or recyclable. They even have gender-neutral restrooms! In the summertime the garage door awning opens up to passersby on a hot day! I usually just go for a scoop or two in a cup, while others love their homemade waffle cones. Bob gets a little crazy and orders hot fudge sundaes, banana splits, or decadent milkshakes! Don't forget to take a pint or two home as well! read more

Really like the vibe of this place. Sweet action ice cream has many flavors and I wanted to taste half of them before choosing which flavor to get. Unfortunately was embarrassed to try more than two before choosing a purchase so I tried the peanut butter jelly and the cookie butter. The jelly taste in the peanut butter was way too strong for me that I didn't taste the peanut butter. The cookie butter was thick and tasty enjoyed it more. My wife got the butterscotch caramel which beats the cookie butter due to the more creaminess texture it had and the caramel sweetness it had as well. If you happen to be in the neighborhood it's worth a stop. Here are my ratings: Cookie butter: 8/10 Salted Butterscotch: 8/10 read more

Unfortunately, there's not much sweet action in this place except for the free samples...which is the only thing I can recommend. Parents, be warned, they do not have kiddie sizes. So if you want to take a nice stroll in the S Broadway/Baker area and your younguns want an ice cream treat, you can either treat them to a buffet of free samples or an adult-size diabetes-inducing scoop of ice cream. Your kids will be bouncing off the walls with their $4 scoop of ice cream, and who wants that if you're not sending them to Grandma's? Staff was nice, but management was rude... which sometimes happens when people get on a power trip. They think location, "fancy" flavors, & high prices will save them... but actually customer service goes a long way... like this review. read more
I was really excited to try Sweet Action but I think my excitement and the hype really caused me to be disappointed by their actual products. The waffle cone was hard and thick compared to Little Man's (much crispier, thinner and fresher tasting). They do have a lot of flavors which I enjoyed but I tried the lemon poppy and thought it could have been more flavorful and accurate in flavor. Parking can be difficult around this area because they don't have their own lot but I had no problem parking at the nearby Walgreen's. I am, however, interested in tryin the following flavors in the future: 1. red bean pocky 2. cafe de olla 3. blackberry lavender 4. cinnamon gingerbread They do rotate and change their flavors around so you have to check their website out to see what their latest flavors are (assuming they update their site). I will update this review once I've tried more flavors. I will, however, probably get a cup rather than a cone next time though. read more

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on the last visit to our…
Asks date what she wants for dessert. Date says she wants some sweet action. What do you do? You take her here, of course. You can't lose that coin toss with good ice cream. The rest of the night will take care of itself. I got the double scoop of the caramel apple. It was a lot of ice cream but I enjoyed every bit and bite. This place is popular on a warm day but didn't feel crowded. The seating looking out on the sidewalk is genius. If the smell of the ice cream doesn't get you, try going past a bunch of people sitting there and enjoying theirs. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I think maybe either I have a BRAIN freeze or perhaps since it was COLD OUTSIDE, I could not really recall of what we order from Sweet Action Ice Cream. Was here with Hubs after our dinner just a few blocks away on Friday October 28th 2011. Time about 19:20hrs ish. I wanted to eat my ice cream in this establishment but Hubs wanted to have it to go instead. Big bummer. Furthermore, there arent many seatings since this place was filled with other patrons that evening. Hubs ordered the Mint Chocolate Chip, a Chocolate flavor of some kind and another flavor Ice Cream which I entirely forgot. While I also ordered the Mint Chocolate Chip with Chocolate Chile or something. I so wish, that when I order Mint Chocolate Chip, it comes with Chocolate ice cream, the Brown kind instead of the Green Kind of Chocolate.. I guess the green is the mint, right? Oh well.. Hubs had various kind of nuts added to his order of Ice Cream. All in all its an OK Ice Cream for us. The ice cream was not too sweet, just the way I like it, but it seems lacking of "depth". Though I so wish, one day, I can convinced Hubs to have our ice cream treats to be eaten in this establishment. Note to self, please do remember the correct flavor next time, so can review correctly. Perhaps our review might differ... read more
