Environmentalists and hippies will admire and praise this place, as they follow a sustainable business model. They also use compostable and recyclable packaging. They resource fresh ingredients from local sources, including the most important of them all, fresh Colorado dairy. I also think about where the ingredients come from, but for other reasons: taste, health and support of local businesses. During a hot summer day, ice cream naturally came to mind. We have our go-to place for frozen custard, but this was convenient for us. Packed with patrons trying to cool off, seating was limited with only a few tables available. My favorite part is the open bar arrangement, indulge in ice cream and people watch strolling the sidewalk. The staff was very pleasant and let me taste a few flavors. I like how they have some unique ones, and apparently routinely change. I ordered the Stranahan's, in a form of a shake. It was delicious, but in all honesty, once you have frozen custard, it's almost impossible to dethrone. I would have named this place "Sweet Ass Ice Cream" for its delicious and sweet treats, but I'm sure some mother would frown at this. While in Denver for vacation, my partner suddenly craved for ice cream after a Rocky Mountain hike. He bookmarked "Sweet Action" on his phone and insisted on checking it out. I then looked up the Yelp reviews and noticed there were close to 1000 of them! I guess I'm just here to render my two cents. Of course, my expectation was high, but I think "Sweet Action" delivered it. This location of "Sweet Action" isn't really close to downtown Denver, but it's a short 10-min Uber ride or 25-min bike ride to the establishment. Due to COVID-19, they didn't have a full selection of ice cream flavors listed on the menu board. The young lady behind the counter told us to come near to the front to see what they had to offer that day. I ordered the green apple peanut butter root beer float and it was quite delicious. They used the locally-made root beer. As you all know, it's always a good idea to support local businesses. It's even more delightful to see that many local businesses use locally-made products. My partner had a couple scoops of ice cream in his cup, but it appeared to be more than 2 scoops to me! The portion was very generous and there was nothing to complain about. We weren't allowed to eat inside. Thankfully it was a gorgeous day out and we were able to find some random fountain bricks, sat down, and devoured these bad boys. Colorado has one of the warmest summers. Denver in particular has no shortage of ice cream shops at all. In the Broadway area Sweet Action is an oasis where you will find happy people winning the battle with this heat! Sweet Action is made in CO. Sourced and handmade with all the other good stuff that goes with it. Like compostable and recyclable packaging. But they start with the most basic fresh CO dairy! Mooooo! Or COOOOOO..!:) We did the scoop and milkshake route. I had two scoops of their Ginger flavored ice cream. They didn't disappoint. This was spicy but just enough. It comes and goes. Creamy. Otherwise it's useless to me if it's not. Company's milkshake was raved about all the way to the trash receptacle which didn't take that long. It was the Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle. Yeah it's CO whiskey with pieces of butter brickle toffee! ***Two Signature Flavors*** The most famous-Butterscotch. Second most famous-Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle. I saw the high reviews on Yelp and it was also mentioned in some other foodie list I had read, so I knew this was a must-visit when in town. This place is known for its cool flavors! There was a small line, but it moved really quickly. The staff here are super nice. They encouraged me to try as many flavors as I desired and even told me that once they didn't have a line and 7 women tried every single flavor they had and there's a bunch! This was not told as a horror story, but more like an encouragement. This was something they told was cool/funny, so I happily obliged and tried several flavors...because the flavors here are bonkers in the best way possible! I loved it. The goat cheese flavor blew my mind; it was so so so good. I really couldn't find a good flavor to pair it with though. I wish I could have paired this flavor with Portland's Salt & Straw's Olive Oil flavor because that would work SO well! But alas, these two top ice cream shops are not in the same city -- for now! But heads up Sweet Action, maybe a sea salt olive oil flavor would be so amazing or truffle olive oil? Anyway, the crowd here was really cool and friendly too, as well as the staff who were in a great mood and seemed to enjoy their workplace! It's $4 for one scoop or $5 for two scoops, so well...yeah, I got a double of course. :) I wish I would have ordered two scoops of that goat cheese flavor. I really didn't need dessert on the night we came to Sweet Action Ice Cream. I was more than full. For some reason, I couldn't pass up a highly rated ice cream shop that happened to be on our way home. We did the usual sampling to aid my indecisive self. Whiskey brickle stood out, obviously. As well as a decent selection of vegan options. Salted butterscotch was another attention getter because that salty + sweet combo always hits the spot. Definitely limited selection given COVID, but they still had some interesting flavors. I only wish COVID didn't prevent trying samples. I was too hesitant to commit to their flavors like red miso caramel and hatch green chili. I ended up with scout (chocolate mint) and Thai spice (vegan coconut, lemongrass, and ginger). The place is essentially like a Portlandia episode. They have a total of about 12 flavors that are all yuppie, whiskey grandma's cookies, rum vanilla, nothing normal. The issue is that they all taste terrible. I ended up just going with plain chocolate but they also ruined that, I even asked the guy which chocolate flavor is richer and he suggested the one that's lighter in color and it ended up having tons of cinnamon in it and also a hint of cayenne pepper GROSS. We also got plain vanilla bean which tasted like fake vanilla extract, it definitely is not actual vanilla beans, literally tastes like the artificial vanilla. I got the Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle based on a recommendation. The first bit had the essence of whiskey but after it just tasted like sweet cream. Maybe it was the sprinkles that changed the flavor? Black pepper wasn't anything too special. My partner got a large sundae and it was put in a cup so all the components were layered and had to be eaten from top to bottom. The flavors are ever-changing and quite inventive! Last week I tried the sweet and spicy "mascarpone chile blackberry". Of course they always offer more conventional flavors too. Bob recently tried their "chocolate compost" which comprised of chocolate ice cream with leftover cake and candies. They also carry quite a variety of vegan flavors. They use all natural Colorado based products. All of their packaging and containers are either compostable or recyclable. They even have gender-neutral restrooms! In the summertime the garage door awning opens up to passersby on a hot day! I usually just go for a scoop or two in a cup, while others love their homemade waffle cones. Love these f#%kers so much! My daughters and I walk here from our house as often as weather permits. They get waffle cones loaded with a scoop of the best French vanilla we've ever had and a second scoop of some fantastic rare creation and all the sprinkles. I always try a nondairy treat for my effed up guts. And we walk home thrilled. Every single time. Great people. Great space. Great location. Great options. Fun t-shirts. A Colorado native, I use to love this place, great made ice cream with an amazing selection, but after the sale to the new owners I can no longer recommend. Ice cream was soft and seemed store bought, the business removed the ice cream display cases and has what seemed like large coolers behind a half wall, service was very slow and the display cases for pints and ice cream sandwiches for grab and go were empty. Asked an employee what happened and I was told the coolers broke and have not been replaced, in my opinion if something breaks that is important to a company you would fix right away? What a solid ice cream parlor! Highly, highly recommend the mint cream cake if you are a mint lover - gives your mouth a flavor blast in milliseconds! This has really set the bar for me with all mint ice creams moving forward. Ice cream parlor is clean and spacious. Unfortunately, there's not much sweet action in this place except for the free samples...which is the only thing I can recommend. Parents, be warned, they do not have kiddie sizes. So if you want to take a nice stroll in the S Broadway/Baker area and your younguns want an ice cream treat, you can either treat them to a buffet of free samples or an adult-size diabetes-inducing scoop of ice cream. Really like the vibe of this place. Sweet action ice cream has many flavors and I wanted to taste half of them before choosing which flavor to get. Unfortunately was embarrassed to try more than two before choosing a purchase so I tried the peanut butter jelly and the cookie butter. The jelly taste in the peanut butter was way too strong for me that I didn't taste the peanut butter. The cookie butter was thick and tasty enjoyed it more. My wife got the butterscotch caramel which beats the cookie butter due to the more creaminess texture it had and the caramel sweetness it had as well. Went here last weekend on a whim. Figured, while we are in Denver...happiest ever! My children looooooved the vegan golden milk ice cream. So much so they wanted to go back the next day. The staff was wonderful too. We walked in and they immediately greeted you with a smile and asked what we wanted to try. Like they wanted you to try different ice creams and it wasn't an inconvenience. Of course the kids took full advantage. Which is how they ended up with vegan ice cream. They do have a lot of flavors which I enjoyed but I tried the lemon poppy and thought it could have been more flavorful and accurate in flavor. Parking can be difficult around this area because they don't have their own lot but I had no problem parking at the nearby Walgreen's. I am, however, interested in tryin the following flavors in the future: 1. red bean pocky 2. cafe de olla 3. blackberry lavender 4. cinnamon gingerbread They do rotate and change their flavors around so you have to check their website out to see what their latest flavors are (assuming they update their site). My favorite is they're Thai tea, which is always out or almost out, because of it's popularity and deliciousness. Nothing curbs a craving for ice cream like seeing the sick staff blow their nose flip the tissue around (ensuring that snot touched their bare fingers) and blow their nose more and then not wash their hands! This guy then went back to work switching out things of ice cream. Touching everything! I saw him switch between working the kitchen to working on papers and he never washed his hands.
