Horribly long wait! There were over 40 people in the waiting room when I walked in for my morning appointment. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour before being called back. The tech did their testing and then I was moved to another waiting room before being put in an exam room. Once I finally saw the doctor, the care was great. But overbooking and the disrespect of people's time is completely unacceptable. An eye exam should not take 2+ hours out of your day! read more

Was told I needed cataract surgery and was refered to Dr Sweeney. After being up sold on an all vision lens and about $4000 out of pocket, my vision was worse than before at 20/200. He then teferred me to a cornea specialist for a benign growth on my cornea which is what he should have done to start with. I then went to the cornea surgeon and had 3 more surgeries in the same eye. One surgery was for the cornea benign growth that Sweeney should have referred me out for BEFORE cataract surgery but didn't, then surgery to REMOVE the kens he put in after paying $4000 for it and replaced the lens with the correct prescription lens (very few eye surgeons will even attempt an IOL exchange) and then YAG surgery as a "clean up.". My second surgeon is miracle worker and my vision in that eye is quite good now. I'm really lucky! BUT ... My recommendation is to FIND A DIFFERENT DOCTOR. read more

Dr. Venincasa diagnosed me with ocular hypertension and early signs of glaucoma several months ago and prescribed vyzulta for treatment. I've had a tremendously disappointing time with multiple pharmacy's and my prescription insurance obtaining this particular medication. Many phone calls and visits between the two of them and six weeks of zero results I had completely given up. But wait! I had no other options so I went back to Sweeney Eye Associates and was pleasantly blessed and fortunate to see Jesse, Vanessa and Jamie P. They spent several minutes listening and got my situation corrected and completed. How about that! I've gone through so much on my own with no success and after a conversation and some attention they made it happen! Customers service unfortunately today has taken a back seat in our world of doing so much more with so much less that it's a pleasant surprise when people take a little extra time, care and consideration to help. Scheduled my appointment over a month ago arrived early at 8:30 my appointment was at 8:45 completed the paperwork and I had to sit in the lobby and wait it is now 920 and there are other people in the lobby angry that they've been waiting longer than me. I have to leave because I still have to go to work to and I drove all the way to their Sunnyvale location just to get this appointment. I guess I'm just headed to target to get my prescription this is a joke! I'm very disappointed and really need an eye appointment. Because of Covid I'm way past due. We have set a new record with our latest appointment, we are at an hour and still counting. So far so good, no complications and though they are very efficient, they also have that human touch... good bedside manner, follow up phone calls and the like. Today I was supposed to have my appointment at the Sunnyvale location but when I arrived, they let me know that I was not on the shedule, they decided to cancel my appointment without letting me know in advance. They say they tried to leave a voicemail message but they could not. The lady at the front desk was so rude with me. DO NOT GO HERE. Masks are a contentious issue, but a business should be upfront about their policies. I made VERY clear, every time I came here (3 appointments) that I would need to wear an n95 mask during my cataract surgery. The anesthesiologist said this would be fine, and even offered to mask themselves, but didn't know if they still had enough n95's. I offered to supply them, and they said ok. When I got to the surgical center, they said I would only be allowed to wear a surgical mask. They refused the masks we brought (sealed, individually packaged n95's). Then they cancelled the procedure. I have no problem with establishments setting their own rules, but shining a patient on, telling them it would be one way, and then changing everything the day of surgery is very unprofessional. If Dr. Sweeney supports this kind of behavior, I am extremely glad he did not touch my eyes. How are you supposed to trust a surgeon who has lied the entire time? read more

Terrible experience. Had an artifical lense put in May and was pretty much blinded for 6 months. They did a follow up Yag surgery 6 months later and still no success.The follow up surgery was the worst. I forced to wait in my car for a long time before I was permitted to be crammed into awaiting room so crowded there werent enough chairs. 2 hours after my appointment time I was finally seen. This was still during high danger of Covid. The second surgery was unsuccessful and that was that. Months after that I am told that I signed a release of liability and that was that. They offered no follow up or possible solution. I was also told this lense would cure my night blindness and that is not true. My vision is much worse after spending nearly $3000 plus charging Medicare for the cataract surgery. This guy needs to be investigated. read more

The poor reviews are warranted. I wish we would have taken them into account before we went. Left in the waiting room forever. Concerns not addressed. Impersonal and rude. The way they intake patients is incredibly inefficient to a point where the staff seemed to be battling over equipment. Ended up going elsewhere for procedure, but were still charged fees for the initial visit for an exam that was really not needed because just had an exam from primary care giver. Last December 20, 2021 I was not provided with an ASL Interpreter. Now, I'm not sure if my prescription glasses came out right. This doctor was talking too fast. I kept telling him to slow down as I'm totally Deaf (imagine without ASL Interpreter). This place is violating the ADA laws. (American Disabilities Acts). It's hard to understand that they refused to provide me or any other Deaf people ASL Interpreters. I will have to report my insurance. read more

The doctors and medical staff are great. Administrative not so much. 2 days now trying to get a refill on eye-drops post surgery with, as of this writing, no results. That is really too bad because it has soured an otherwise good review. Clinical director called and explained they did not get the refill request as I had been led to believe. Once she became aware of the problem, the refill was called in. So, after a bumpy start I really appreciate the efforts to make things right and thus have changed my score. read more

My first time here... I will say I waited for a "minute" to see the Dr., but there were lots of people in the office. No one likes to wait, but that's the "nature of the beast" sometimes when you go to the Dr. When I went back for my examine, I did not feel rushed... everyone was nice and friendly. Very thorough. I had things explained about my eyes that I have never heard before. When Dr. Haarde came in, very personable. Explained in detail that I had good eyes. These clowns get the award for Most Inefficient Dr. Office - EVER. 11am appt, but waited until 11:15 to get out of the waiting room...only to be handled 3 separate times where the nurse/tech spent more time tapping their damn iPad than examining the patient. When I complained, their excuse was "well, there are other appointments ahead of you" - clearly these idiots have no idea of the definition of "appointment". Husband is having cataract surgery today. 2 weeks ago He saw Dr Sweeney for pre surgery eval. Found him to be informative and willing to answer questions. The office building is new-ish and the furnishings inside are very basic but clean. Surgery front desk staff are friendly. Nothing fancy, but we aren't here for fancy furnishing. We are here so my husband can see again. More to follow after tomorrow's followup appointment. 6/28/2016 Surgery went very well. Excellent follow and care. I would not recommend this place. If you are ready to wait for one hour go ahead. I thought the long wait times were due to COVID but based on other reviews I confirmed the long wait is ongoing for years. The staff for check in and exams were great, however, cannot say the same for Darrin who I had to reach out to after not hearing back to schedule the pre op appointment where you "discuss" the plans. He did not explain thoroughly and quite frankly seemed bothered we were taking up his time. You're just another number there and not best interest of the patient. I went to see four other ophthalmologists before I found Dr. Ehrhardt. She did an extremely detailed exam and said that I had Cataracts in both eyes. She recommended that I have both eyes done, one at a time. I was 65 years old and new I had to find a surgeon that I trusted explicitly. She has a great calming voice and explained everything she would do. She asked if I had any questions and she answers them completely. She put me completely at easy. She started with one eye and did the other one two weeks later. She is an accomplished doctor and was wonderful with me. The Sweeney Eye Associates have a modern up to date office and scheduling was easy and quick. I did not have any waiting for my appointment. read more

I had IntraLASIK surgery performed by Dr. Sweeney and had the best possible experience! The initial Lasik review at their new Richardson facility was performed by Dr. Sweeney himself, along with his very personable staff. They answered all of my questions, explained the different options and put my mind at ease about the surgery. The surgery itself used state of the art equipment at the Cornea Eye Associates of Texas and lasted just minutes. Dr. Sweeney again explained step by step what was going to happen before the surgery began, talked me through during the surgery and even called to check on me later in the day - excellent customer service. I was able to drive the next day for a brief post op follow up and after a few weeks of settling, I've got 20/15 vision. I highly recommend Dr. Sweeney and his staff!!! read more

After the nurse took me to the examining room and looked at my eyes, she then took me to a second waiting room in the back and said it would be about another 45 minutes. I googled ophthalmologist in my area and Sweeney Eye Associates came up. I have been seeing an optometrist for years and because I have developed health issues my treating Dr wanted me to see an Ophthalmologist. I called, made the appointment, went through the usual tests and was put in exam room to see the Dr. Nice visit. The next day I was looking at documents from visit and realized I had seen an optometrist. I called the office to speak with the manager about my concern that my insurance company and I were going to get a bill for something I didn't want. She was not available, apparently she also works as an assistant to the Dr's. I left a message on the voicemail. She did not call back that day or the next so I called. I was put on hold for 10 minutes until the call rang back to the front desk. The office manager picked up my call and after I explained my concern all she could tell me is that the exam would have been the same as well the outcome. She said the only difference between the two was that the ophthalmologists can do surgery. I told her the training and education is not the same and that's why I needed to see an MD. She said she could make an appointment with one of the ophthalmologists but the outcome would likely be the same. I declined the offer because it was clear customer service is not a priority at this office. She did say she would send my records to me and would not bill me. I wonder if the Ophthalmologists on staff there feel the spent way to much time and money in school if their own employees think they are the same as an optometrist who can do surgery? Non of this would have happened if the had been transparent up front about the Dr's they have on staff. I specifically was looking for an ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. read more

I learned about them from a local optometrist whom I had asked, when you get cataracts where are you going? I've now sent several friends to them as well. Noticed several complaints about being kept waiting for long periods of time, but in my 18-month experience with them, I've not seen this. read more

Dr. Sweeney performed cataract surgery on my eyes in November and December, 2016. The surgery was, I suppose well done but the follow up stinks. I returned every couple of months for about a year complaining of fuzzy vision and very dry eyes. The drs. there told me it was because as we age, our eyes just get dry. Because my insurance won't cover the expensive eye drops, they said to just use the otc drops. That didn't help the fuzzy vision. Finally, after the last time I went in and the dr. basically told me not to bother them again that I was old and just had to deal with the dry eyes, I found another dr. who has been able to help my dry eyes AND recognized that I had a film over the lenses. The film has been removed and now I CAN SEE!! Would not recommend Sweeney Eye Associates. read more

I had been to Dr Sweeney a few years ago and was very happy with the experience, but literally everything changed. He moved to a new offfice, which was nice, but no warm feelings. I signed in and it really seemed to bother the woman at the counter that it interrupted her conversation with her coworker. I waited 45 minutes to go to the back, but listened to 2 others complain to the staff that they had been waiting for over 2 hours. The tech that took me back wasn't very professional, making some borderline crude jokes. Once in the treatment room I waited 50 minutes. I heard 2 people open doors to their rooms and complain down the hallway about wait times and one person walk out while complaining that they weren't going to wait any longer. When the doc came in to see me he never really spoke to me, he dictated to a different tech this time. If he was offered a million dollars to pick me out of a lineup I really think he'd fail. He casually mentioned it looked like I had beginning stages of glaucoma and wanted to see me in 8 weeks. (seriously, why wait 8 weeks???). The tech wrote my prescription, not the doctor. When I checked out they didn't have an appointment for 10 weeks. So I took the appointment anyway. A few weeks later the office called and said they had to reschedule my appointment because the doctor was going on vacation. The next available appointment time was 9 weeks longer! I cancelled, and will find a new doctor. read more

I was literally amazed at the results following the procedure performed on both my left and right eyes. I can now see so much better!!! Dr. Sweeney was so helpful in explaining the cataract removal procedure to me. This facility and Drs. are strictly in the eye surgery business. If you are not interested in eye surgery, do not go to them. They no longer do contact lens fittings for new patients. They agreed to fit me at the appointment then decided I can't wear them. Problem solved - for them. I'm out my vision benefits, and the only way I can get contacts is to pay for a complete new eye exam with someone else. read more

Wont be going back to this place! Had an appt. for 9:30, didn't get called back till after 10:20.....then a tech who was flat and dry (offered no explanation for anything he was doing) proceeded to do some visual exams on me. Then my eyes were dilated and I was told in about 20 min the Dr would see me...... 35 min later, I was called into the exam room. Waited their another 15 min....I can here a deep mans voice talking with an assistant outside the door about nothing work related...after they finish their conversation (which was obviously more important than the pt waiting inside the exam room) the door opens and the deep voiced man quickly introduces himself as Dr Sweeny (no handshake, no eye contact). He does his exam in approx 2 min (or less) and gives me my script.......asked no questions regarding my eyes etc and left the room with a quickness........his "assistant" who was left writing down some things seemed very bothered when I started to ask some questions about contacts and other procedures offered at their clinic. This place needs to just hand out numbers and call people by their numbers because that's how they make you feel. Dr Sweeney needs classes on "bedside manner" and his staff needs to be told "hey, it's ok, smile!". read more

I just called to make an eye appointment for an exam to get contact lenses. I have been going to Sweeney for about 5 years now. I've never had any issues other then the snooty front desk people. Today a lady answered to phone and I asked if I could make an appointment for contact lenses. She said, "we don't do that." I then told her that I have been going there for 5 years and I've never had an issue. The lady then put me on hold and then proceeded to hang up on me. I then called back and got another lady. I told her the same thing and she told me that they don't do that. I told her that I got a reminder in the mail a few weeks ago to make an appointment for an eye exam. She said, "well I don't know." I will never recommend Sweeney Eye Associates to anyone. If you can actually get in to see the doctor, he is great. But the front desk staff are the rudest group of women I have ever met. I went to Sweeney Eye Associates just to get my eyes checked and get new contacts. My appointment was at 1:30, was not called back till 2:20. Then, rushed through the exam. The tech then dilated my eyes and asked me to wait back in the waiting room. After sitting there for 25 minutes, I finally asked when I was going to get called back in. Needless to say, an appointment that should have been 45 minutes tops was 2 and a half hours long. The staff was rude and they rushed me through every part of the appointment except the sitting around and waiting part. Will not be going back to them. read more

You had better have deep pockets if you start seeing this doctor. They WILL tell you that you need more than one procedure but not at the time that you have your first one. My wife had cataracts removed and we paid much extra for the multi-focal lenses in each eye and before the surgery and two visits after, the doctor said that everything was perfect. After the 3 month followup, he told my wife that her lenses behind the implant were cloudy and laser surgery was needed to correct this. But with multi-focal lenses the hole he wants to put through would have to negatively impact those expensive implants. Also, have ALL of the time in the world for your visits as many WILL take more than 3 hours. I think we need another opinion. read more
