BEWARE of getting ripped off and stay away for alterations. I dropped a pair of pants off to have a little rip in the pockets sewed up. At other dry cleaners it is $10-$15 per repair max. When I picked it up, the cost was super expensive, more than the pants cost. At $55.50 I was shocked - as I had two little kids with me, I chose not to fight it. But what a ripoff. In retrospect, I should have let them keep the pants. My hope is that others read this and take their small sewing jobs and dry cleaning somewhere else. Let my experience save you the hassle of being ripped off. read more

Our family has been going to Swan Lake for the last decade and have always been pleasantly surprised with their service and pricing. We are always met with a warm greeting and by name. They are a typical small neighborhood business that provides our community with timely service at fair pricing. This place has been here for ages. Its across the street from Hartigan's Ice Cream and near Casteel Coffee, well-known Evanston haunts. They run a friendly, reliable operation with good service and fast turnaround times. There are two service counters and well-organized shelves (a sign your stuff won't get lost?). We just moved into town. Delivered our first load of dry cleaning for Swan Lake cleaners to do. They were excellent and prompt. Our clothes were very clean and to standards. The cost is very reasonable and the staff is very friendly. It has a very family-friendly feel. There is easy parking around the street. Definitely will return for business there again and again! I have been taking my clothes to Swan Lake Cleaners for dry cleaning and for alterations since 2006, so 12 years, now! Except for one prior mishap, their service has been friendly, good and timely. This brings me to the 2-star rating I am giving them. Businesses are measured by how they handle a problem, and they failed miserably on a recent issue. I took my comforter in for seasonal cleaning. My comforter is white and spotless, always covered by a comforter cover, but I take it for cleaning to get rid of dust, etc. after a season of use. When I went to pick it up, I was handed a comforter in a plastic bag (so theoretically clean) that had gross stains all over it. I was shocked. I told Mimi, the owner, that it was not mine, she insisted it was. I refused to take it, saying I did not own such a filthy comforter. I went back a week later inquiring about my comforter. Mimi told me the stains were from their equipment and that they had ordered a special cleaning agent to take the stains out. A week later I went back and was handed a clean comforter, but it was clearly not mine. Mimi insisted it was mine. I took it home, opened it, and it was not mine: neither the edging nor the quilting style were like mine. I took it back to the cleaners; Mimi finally accepted that it was not mine, but basically stated she did not know who had my comforter. No apologies were made, no discussion of replacement or compensation. She just said to wait, and maybe the person who received it in error would bring it back. I did not appreciate at all the multiple levels of deception and Mimi trying to convince me that a filthy comforter was mine, then that a machine got it dirty, etc. She should have been upfront that there was a mix-up, that they unfortunately did not know who had my comforter, and offered some level of compensation for the loss. read more

Every time I have been in here, I feel like i am their son. Ive been here about 5 times in the past 5 years. The asian lady who runs the front desk not only remembers me, but also remembers what I took last time and asks me how it worked out. She is very freindly and has been willing on more than one occassion to hem or alter my clothes at an expidited rate. Once I brought in a suit on a Wednesday to be altered and she had it done that Friday. She is very concerned with each customer's satisfaction I am sure. read more

We've been going here for years on a regular weekly basis. The owners are there every day, extremely pleasant, and can do same day service, although we don't ask for that very often. Quick turn around, great job. My husband is pretty persnickety with his dry cleaning and has always been happy with the job they do. They also take credit cards for $10 and above. My white summer hat with a fairly stiff brim was in good shape when when I took it in. It just had a few very small spots. When I got it back it was all out of shape, and the band around the top was detached and hanging loose. I wish I had just worked on the spots myself. read more

I cannot vouch for their cleaning service but they might as well take off the advertisement on the window for a tailor and expert alterations. I brought in 2 simple sewing fixes, and one sleeve lengthing task. I even prepared ahead to provide enough material to do the lengthing. The gentleman at the desk was extremely rude and told me that if I did it, it would be ugly. Sorry mr asian man, this is what I wanted done, I didn't ask u for you opinion. It is such an easy fix concept that if I had a sewing machine I could have done myself and it would of been unnoticable with even my middle school home ed sewing education. This however doesn't surprise me that he would neglect to take on this project as in my first and only experience with having elastic taken out of a sleeve on my bike jersey at swan lake turned out to be a diaster. It was like a child sewed the seams. I would say my advice to swan lake, if u know your company does not have ... but they might as well take off the advertisement on the window for a tailor and expert alterations.
