I question what the management is doing because they're not visible and are missing the obvious issues. Produce is constantly not on the shelves but is in the back if you find someone to go get it for you. There's no attention to the checkout line. It's a pretty big store and I can't be convinced that at any given time there is only one person capable of operating a register. At virtually every other store, if the line is longer than two or three people they call someone to come to the front to open another one. This hardly ever happens here which seems disrespectful of the customers. They only occasionally have someone bagging on the checkout lines which only slows down how quickly people can get checked out. Because they don't have enough checkout registers open, customers are forced to use the self check out. This too is understaffed. I've never seen more than a single employee running around both areas responding to "help me "issues. Annoying to have to wait while the employee has pulled in multiple directions trying to help a lot of other frustrated customers. What's going on in the deli is not a management issue. It's a Kroger issue. Waiting to have lunch meat cut is a waste of time, but the staff have been told not to cut and package quantities under 3/4 of a pound. Some of that amount almost always begins to spoil before I can use it all, and I usually use it almost daily. I don't understand the point of not offering some of it in smaller quantities.

In the cosmetics section which is completely caged off from the rest of the store--I had to wait for an employee to unlock a case just to purchase a $6 eyeliner. The associate then escorted me to a separate, gated checkout area and seemed visibly annoyed to even assist me. The entire interaction felt uncomfortable and unnecessarily restrictive. Meanwhile, there were multiple employees stationed at the exit checking every receipt, yet inside the store there were no open registers and very little visible support for customers. Everything was self-checkout, and the staff who were present didn't appear engaged or helpful. Rather than making customers feel suspected or inconvenienced, it would go a long way to have more attentive, professional staff available to explain policies and provide a better shopping experience. On top of that, the store itself felt run down, which is surprising given its location in a well-kept area like Highlands Ranch. Overall, this experience left a very negative impression.

There have been some recent shootings in the area, and both of the last two times I've visited, I noticed Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputies there. That said, I've always felt the employees were friendly and were doing their best to provide a good shopping experience. Upon arrival it quickly became apparent the employees prioritize their cell phones and personal conversations amongst each other. There were several employees tapping away at their screens and talking about their plans after work. You have to really go out of your way to get their attention in order to get help. At the self checkouts there were 3 female employees talking amongst themselves about their personal lives and plans. At the same time two of them were busy tapping away on their phone screens as they conversed. I tried getting a receipt from the machine and it immediately flagged me with the an associate was on the way on the screen. I stood at the checkout out for a good while waiting for someone to come before I got fed up and decided to approach the employees. They appeared irritated that I interrupted their intimate personal conversation to ask for help. The employee realized the machine was out of receipt paper but before changing out the roll there was a message on the screen for me the customer to rate my shopping experience. She went ahead and tapped the 5 stars on the screen for herself. I was appalled she had the audacity to do it on my behalf. I was like excuse me for such stellar service. After she got the machine running again she made it seem like I seriously inconvenienced her by making her work. I had another separate transaction I had to do so at the end of the second one I made sure to tap the 1 star because of how rude the staff was. I probably won't be returning.
