Came here to grab some dessert for later and as a way to make up for my super disappointing lunch nearby. This was a much better experience! This is a small little bakery; technically they have daily lunch specials but there's very limited seating so it's more of a grab-and-go type of spot. They also have premade dishes in tall coolers if you want to take and reheat something as an appetizer or an entree. Great for on the go engagements or as a quick fix for a family that needs feeding. There's also a selection of packaged breads made in-house and a dessert case. The service was extremely nice! I had a lovely chat with one of the employees. The only major complaint I have was that the store smelled really weird and unpleasant when I visited. I have NO idea what it was from -- I couldn't place the smell. Maybe a dish I don't like? Maybe the yeast for the bread? Not sure. It looked clean and had a good health code score, but the smell was rough. At any rate, I grabbed a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for right then, as well as a slice of Elvis cake (iirc) and a snickerdoodle. The strawberry pretzel salad had a pretty strawberry jelly top and was packed with lots of cream cheese filling! It was good, though I do wish there had been a thicker pretzel crust; sometimes I felt like I was mostly eating pretzel crumbs instead of an actual bottom of a layered dessert. Still, definitely yummy! Hubs and I enjoyed the Elvis cake later. It was super moist and sort of reminded me of a hummingbird cake. My snickerdoodle was special (peanut butter snickerdoodle? Coffee snickerdoodle?). It was a unique combo of flavors that you don't typically see but sadly I'm far enough removed now that I've forgotten exactly what. Regardless, it was good! Good grief, I've driven by this place 1000s of times and never realized it was a bakery/eatery! I thought it was maybe a salon. Along for the ride in my favorite sister's quest for the best locally made sourdough bread, we visited Suzanne's last month. It's small, and I think it may have had 2 little bistro style tables inside, but it may have had 3. There are several refrigerators on the floor with grab and go items such as a ground beef-based "John Wayne casserole," pimento cheese, various casseroles, maybe a 3-bean salad, chick salad, broccoli salad, and more. A stocked confection counter is where you order and pay. They had really cute Halloween cake "pops" for sale and their "sour dough" bread was on a small display on the right as you enter. They offer hot lunch specials daily Tuesday-Friday, 11-2 and a soup of the day at 6.49, ranging from said John Wayne casserole to chicken poulet and stuffing. We missed the lunch window and didn't purchase any of the grab and goes. The staff here are patient and friendly! Really nice! Sister and I each got a loaf or 2 of the sourdough, sister tried one of their confectionery items and said it was good. I also got two of their giant chocolate chip cookies for the hubs. The unanimous verdict on their sourdough bread is it is a good bread, especially for toasting; however, sourdough it is not. The bite I had was sweet and fluffy. Hubs and sister agreed it was delicious bread, just not sourdough. So, it's back to Publix for sourdough. Don't plan to eat in if you go to Suzannes, I told sister, "I guess most people get their lunch to go and eat it in the car, parked here, or back at work." Thanks, Suzzane's! I look forward to visiting under better terms when COVID is over but loved my visit. The food was delicious and baked goods are heavenly. They also are doing safety measures during COVID to keep their customers. We were exhausted from the long driving on the interstate and found this location on yelp. So glad we stopped because it was like home cooking. Will definitely be back to try some more cakes. Recommend the pick 4 meal and Elvis cake. Gonna try the Strawberry cake next time. On a lark, I did a search for a place that looked like it had some interest to it. It's not an eat-in joint. And the lunch menu isn't extensive, although the choices of sides is. As I was in an indecisive mood, they graciously put together a "salad flight" to go. But despite their hospitality, the thing that will stick in my head is their cherry cake. I NEVER see this offered in restaurants, and I don't know why. Suzanne does a great job, and it does have little bits of cherries! AND they didn't fall to the bottom. Such a sweet little local spot! Found it in a map as I was driving by and wanted a local place to grab food. Big selection of sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. Got a 4 salad plate and my husband got a BLT. The shop was lovely and had lots of cute and tempting sweets. The staff were very kind. Smells awesome when you walk through the door. I grabbed a loaf of fresh strawberry bread before I read the menu. Daily specials, grab&go in cooler, full baked desserts under the counter including cinnamon rolls. Why can't we have a place like this in every town? We ordered Chicken salad sandwich husband said it was good. I had pimento cheese sandwich with strawberry pretzel salad (it was more of a strawberry jello salad with pretzel crust-really tasty but sweet). I thought the strawberry would be on a bed of greens with crumbles of pretzels-nope. I wish the sandwiches had lettuce and tomatoes. Ended it with chocolate pie and Elvis cake. Both were excellent. Cute local spot! Definitely worth the stop along 65! We just left so busy but not a huge delay to get back on the road. Oh and ice tea-they give you a chilled cup! read more

I have not had good results with the takeout casseroles. The chicken poppyseed casserole is too soupy. It needs more chicken. I added chicken and more poppyseed and put Ritz crackers on top. The lasagna tasted more like hamburger helper. I was very disappointed in it. I had never had lasagna like they made it. The chicken paulet I have not cooked yet. I am afraid to serve it to guests before I taste it. Decided to make my own. I would pay more for takeouts if they did a better casserole. read more

What can I say about Suzanne's...if you have a sweet tooth, there is no better place in Athens. There are usually between 4-6 types of cakes to choose from as well as various baked goods and salads (chicken, potato, broccoli, etc.). The chicken salad on a croissant is solid. If you ever go when the chocolate peanut butter cake is available, you are doing yourself a great disservice if you don't get a slice. read more

I ordered a toasted cheese and there was nothing toasted about it. No brown color or anuthing. Just seemed like stale bread. I know you are wondering why I went and ordered a cheese sandwich but I really went for the strawberry pretzel salad and piper and leaf tea. They didn't have the tea to serve so that was a no go. Our first time here, altho we had been favorably impressed at a couple of events in Huntsville that they catered. The wife and I each ordered a sandwich and a dessert. The sandwiches each came with potato chips and a pickle spear. We should have just split one sandwich, and a dessert. As it was, we were full after the sandwiches, and took the desserts with us. Some of their cake slices can be enormous, so you might want to ask how big they are. This place may be primarily a bakery, but they have a dining area with ten tables. They also appear to have a couple of tables to put out on the sidewalk when the weather is inviting. Suzanne's appears to be primarily a chick place. There were a dozen or more ladies lunching in small groups. At the time, I was the only guy there. They have a TV, but it wasn't on. Suzanne's also makes chicken salad, casseroles, and more. Come early, before they sell out of the daily specials. read more

I've never had anything from Suzanne's that wasn't good. Her lunches, her take-home casseroles... but I think her specialty is definitely the desserts! She has baked many a cake for our family birthday parties. And if you ask real nice, she might cater your wedding like she did ours! This lady can bake. Got a groupon and ordered the really, really good chocolate cake. OMG there wasn't enough reallys in the title to explain how good that cake was! She makes her own frosting, I know this because I hate store bought frosting and this was far from it. I knocked one star off because I also bought one of her lasagna dishes, and to me it was good but little bland. However I will be back and who knows this review might change. My only big complaint is that they close at 5pm...way too early! Okay, that's the negative, now here is the good. We arrived as they were getting ready to close and the only employees there were two teenaged boys. I started to leave and they both called out that it was okay, they'd fix anything I wanted from the cold menu. We ordered three combos which came with a sandwich, bag of chips, a pickle spear, and a large drink. We got the turkey on wheat, a chicken salad on a croissant, and a ham and cheese on a croissant. It did seem to take quite a while to make them but I chalk that up to it being one of the guys doing in all. We had ordered each sandwich with tomatoes so he may have had to slice those. We got our bags and left so they could close up and we sat in the parking lot to eat. Each one of our sandwiches were HUGE!!!! The meat was so good and the veggies were fresh. The pickles were not so great...they should switch to Clausen and charge a few cents more...the chips were just basic Lays in a bag. The tea was great and tasted fresh. The bread was soft and fresh as were the croissants and they were flaky and just buttery enough. We couldn't believe how much meat each had...I hope it wasn't just because it was the end of the day but usually that would mean a smaller amount so I don't think that's a factor. The sandwiches were great! I couldn't finish mine and it kept nicely in the fridge overnight. To top all of this off was the price. With taxes, three combos, that's three huge sandwiches, three bags of chips, three pickles, and three big drinks all for a grand total of $17...yep, that's it. So, I highly recommend Suzanne's for the great food, friendly service and terrific prices. read more
