My husband and I were driving through Alabama and it was late at night and the Welcome Center rest stop was closed. Luckily, we called this Cracker Barrel location and they said we could park in their parking lot. We were so grateful to have this option! We decided to have breakfast here in the morning on a Sunday and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, we were seated in a timely manner, and the country store is awesome. I love their clothes, gifts, and home decor. It's fun to look around at all the random, neat stuff! It was seasoned correctly, reheated perfectly and the au jus and the homemade horseradish sauce were beyond delicious! Service was GREAT! Restaurant was clean. However, we have never been to a Cracker Barrel where everything came out cold. My husband did send back the gravy, as it had the film on top from when it gets cold, and it was lumpy. Rather than complain that everything was cold I ate the cold fried apples and a little of my dumplings. My husband ate his cold food. He was hungry. I just boxed the dumplings up and the corn. I can heat it up at home later. You know nothings better than hot fried apples, corn and dumplings. But tonight was not the night for that. First, let me start with the good part, i left. When we arrived, they made me wheel a chair all the way through the restaurant to the table at the far back corner. I had to go past 30 empty tables. Then, with no help from any staff member, I had to move the chair and table so that I could get into the corner. It was extremely tiring. Then, a group of four brought in a "service" dog. It had one of those amazon vest on. It smelled like a combination of vomit and cow manure, I grew up on a farm, so I know those smells. After the dog rolled in the floor and licked the floor for a few minutes, the waiters came out and petted it, then went and served food brough out to them. No hand washing. I was disgusted. I left. I had Momma's pancake breakfast (3 pancakes, 2 eggs, & sausage). The pancakes were fluffy in the middle with a little bit of a crust around the edges. It was fantastic! December 11, 2025. Went in and waited for the host to seat us. He seated the people behind us first. When he came back for us, after clearing a table first, we asked why and he advised they were there before us. Perhaps, but we did not see them when we came up and we waited for about two or three minutes. Then when we sat down, one of us had to go back to the car for something and the waitress came and had a very difficult time understanding that we wanted two Coke products and a water. Then, after taking the drink order, but before bringing the drinks back, she asked if we were ready to order, even though one of us was not there. We got up and left without taking any drink drinks or eating any of their food. I was reluctant to come here in the first place because of the CEO and their woke nonsense that they tried to pull not too long ago. I'm glad that we left and went over to IHOP and had a good, wonderful meal with incredibly friendly server. If I was ever wanting to short a stock, this would be the one. I just looked at their stock over the last five years. It has declined from almost $180 per share, about 2021, to $28 a share. I have been going to Cracker Barrel and everyone else has never been charged. You never say never, but I'm saying I will NEVER go to another Cracker Barrel again! I had received some digital cards from Cracker Barrel because of the terrible meal my wife and I had received at the Madison, AL, Cracker Barrel, so we decided to use them at the Athens Cracker Barrel. I don't which was worse, Athens or Madison. Both our orders in Athens were room temperature at best and almost cold. My chicken and dumplins were all lumped together and I just could not eat it. My wife ordered fried chicken and it was edible, but it was not hot. NONE of our food was hot. If I were going to pay for this meal, I would have called the manager over, but since we were using the digital cards, I did not waste the time. I've been criticized for writing a BUNCH of negative reviews, but I just call 'em like I see 'em. If you can't stand the heat, start serving good food. read more

For dinner tonight we had the best Smoked grilled chicken (Sunday homestyle chicken) salad ever. It had a wedge of cheddar, the freshest grape tomatoes, and sliced cucumber with mixed Lettuces, I'm sorry I didn't take a picture. We were seated within two minutes. The waiter was punctual and professional. There were a few people in the restaurant with every other table blocked off (COVID-19), no peg game or kerosene lamps on the tables. It was a great food. This is a review of the gift card system for Cracker Barrel corporate along with the Athens restaurant. I don't know if the restaurant could have stopped what happened but the end result was a gift card that was created with a voucher number but behind the scenes was inactivated. I had been carrying a number of gift cards bought at this restaurant since February 2019. I have had issues with them and called Cracker Barrel customer service to correct and they did at least twice from my memory. At this point I had two cards left and tried to use one on my way to California. At the register they told me that this gift card was coming back inactive. I had the voucher receipt stapled to the gift card paper backing that to me proved the card was balance was correct. After the manager was called to troubleshoot I was eventually told to return back to Alabama and discuss the issue with the local store. Nope, I told them I'm not going back to Alabama for this issue and just paid my bill with my credit card and went on my way. My next step was to again call Cracker Barrel customer service. After 30 minutes on hold the phone system will then make you enter you phone number for a call back. So I did. Missed the return phone call and had to it all again the next day but this time didn't wait for 30 minutes just entered my phone number. The nice Cracker Barrel employee tried her best to help but eventually had to send the issue up the chain to see what could be done. Cracker Barrel accounting said that the transaction history showed where the card was activated but then reversed in their system. So to them there was no transaction. I asked about the gift card receipt (voucher) that I have attached to the gift card showing the purchase\date\store\ and clerk id. To Cracker Barrel accounting that did not matter. In their eyes I was not charged. The next step was to provide a receipt for the transaction or a credit card payment transaction number from my credit card company. Well it turns out that it costs $5 a statement along with figuring out which statement it might be on and even if I used my main card or not. I started to get the feeling that this effort was not going to amount to anything especially since I didn't have the actual receipt from 3 years ago. Cracker Barrel customer service are great employees and I don't really have an issue with them. This is only about the end result of a customer with a printed gift card voucher being told that Nah, those gift cards are not valid and we are betting that your credit card wasn't charged unless you can prove it. Think twice before you purchase gift card(s) from any Cracker Barrel. Especially if you don't plan on using them relatively quickly. The cards could be inactive. And don't give them out as presents, might be the same results. Imagine giving your kids or a young family a Cracker Barrel gift card and them being stuck with the bill. This event will be all I think about as I drive past the Cracker Barrel sign on the interstate. read more

We ate at Cracker Barrel in Athens tonight for the first time in many months and to say it has gone downhill is an understatement. The hubby got his usual, chicken fried steak, and fried catfish for me. His was cold when he got it, the gravy was more of a paste than a gravy, and I didn't like the taste of anything I got besides the fried okra. The catfish now has a very heavy cornmeal breading that wasn't good at all and the pintos seemed like they had been around for a while. Our waitress was new but did pretty well all things considered. They're obviously having trouble getting workers also since only one side of the dining room was open. This is the best place to come and see new and beautiful things in the gift shop. The bathroom is always clean and stocked with toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
