    a box of pumpkins

I loved my first visit to Sutter's Ridge Farm!! It was about a 35 drive out of Madison for me. I live just west of UW Madison's campus. When you arrive, there are plenty of signs indicating which apples are ripe to pick, their flavor profile, as well as where you can find them on the farm. You first need to pre-purchase a bag from the cabin. We bought 1/2 peck (5 pounds) for $7.50 as well as 6 donuts for $5.50. I am a fan of tarter apples, so I was a fan of the Wealthy and Zestar varieties! They also have sweeter ones. Exploring the farm afterwords was a blast too. They have a pumpkin patch, corn maze, farm animals, and activities for children (maze and activities for an extra cost). Overall, I highly recommend coming here!

You pick raspberries. Apples nearly ready.

Here's what you need to know: A. You need to go visit their farm B. You will never forget it and want to come back every year to pick berries or come for the pumpkin patch. C. If you like strawberries, pumpkins, rhubarb cakes, pies and jams you are in luck. If you get to drive down to their farm plan on staying for several hours. Check their website to see which fruit is in season to pick. Berries, apples, pumpkins and more. I am not sure who has more fun here, kids or the adults sampling and picking fruit. Pumpkin Patch is a decent size, fun maze, games, tractor rides, baked goods, tame goats and more, without it being jam packed (pun!) with people and over priced. This is manageable with little children. Their farmer's market stand sells berries, apples, jams, breads, berry plants, pumpkins and more. Always friendly and helpful. Yummy.

Awesome apple orchard with a bunch of varieties. Large pumpkin patch filled to the brim with pumpkins. Great areas for the kids, tons of fun!

This place is fun for the kids and great place to burn some energy. They have everything you may have read on their web site. Bring some coins for the feed for the animals. Fun afternoon for the fam.

    Unique gourds!!

Great place for fall fun! And not just for kids :) There are all kinds of activities-apple picking, a pumpkin patch, apple sling shot, corn maze and a huge activity area. The focus of the activity area is kid-friendly stuff but there is plenty to entertain the adults-bean bag toss, carnival style basketball, table mazes and more. Don't miss the silly set up they have which allows kids to fill a dish with food and then a goat up on a platform pulls it up to himself using a rope/pulley system with his mouth. There is a small cafe with baked goodies, coffee, hot apple cider, honey, caramel apples and all kinds of good stuff. There is also a tent type thing next door that had apple cider donuts and brats. The apple picking section was a bit difficult to navigate and would definitely benefit from some added signage out in the orchard. The gourd selection is some of the most unique I've ever seen! Prices are fair and all of the staff was super friendly. Access to the corn maze, activity area and ride to pumpkin patch is $5. Can't beat that! Apple sling shot not included (Cash or check only though-ATM on site).

We had been looking for a local farm-to-table experience when we found Campo di Bella. Our first…read morevisit was a Saturday evening which consisted of a five course meal. Everything about the evening was exceptional. The first course was bruschetta, followed by a refreshing fresh salad with lemon dressing. The main course was flank steak, cooked perfectly. This was followed by a cheese board with delectable cheese samples from local dairies. For dessert, they had an absolutely amazing home made vanilla ice cream. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We enjoyed it so much, that we immediately reserved a second dinner which had cider braised pork shoulder as the entree. Again, the meal was exceptional. It started with prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. I've never had prosciutto sliced so thinly, it was tender and flavorful. This was followed by a butternut squash soup that was thick and rich. I didn't know butternut squash could be so flavorful. I cleaned my bowl so thoroughly that the host jokingly asked if they forgot to serve me. The pork was next. Served with honey crisp apples. It was tender and perfectly juicy. Again, a cheese board was served before dessert. All very tasty local cheeses. For dessert, a French apple tart. I could have eaten a whole tray, it was so good. I've now been there over 20 times. Every time has been exceptional. They offer a variety of wines, ciders, and local beer to go with your meal. They also make their own vermouth which is sweet, with a hint of clove. It's so good, in fact, that we like it on the rocks. Not mixed. The host, Mary Ann, is wonderful. She takes time before each course to provide background on the home grown or locally sourced ingredients. She also gives a history of the farm and her family and, if the season permits, offers a tour of their farm. Marc (Mary Ann's Husband) is the chef. He is a culinary wizard. As I mentioned, I've been back over 20 times, which equates to almost 80 different dishes. All of them amazing! My only criticism (it's a minor one) is that the room is small and cozy and it can get a bit loud inside. It depends on the crowd, but it can be a bit hard to carry a conversation. In summary: exceptional food and exceptional people. I could not recommend it more. Update (12/13/24): We've been coming back to Campo di Bella for the last 5 years. At least 60 times or more and we've never been disappointed. Marc and Mary Ann are incredible hosts that continue to create amazing meals and experiences.

The texture of the gnocchi was so very pleasing - little pillows of goodness. The main course of polenta, mushrooms and house-made italian sausage with polenta was hearty and wonderful. As always, the cheese course was very tasty with several lical cheeses I had never before tried. (I look forward to having them again at home . Dessert was divine! I am not usually a fan of chocolate, but this was delicious! At this restaurant, they use local ingredients as much as they can, too. Give Campo a try if you haven't already. You are in for a real treat!

Our server was very friendly and attentive, without making us feel rushed or forgotten. I like that they present bread to the table. It's something to occupy us while we are waiting for the plates to arrive. The burrata caprese salad was fresh and creamy tasty, with just the right amount of crunch from the greens and zip to the dressing, from the balsamic vinaigrette. My chicken piccata was fresh, light and bright tasting. The chicken was tender with just the right hint of lemon with a bit of salty brine from the capers. There was the perfect texture of softness and crunch to the steamed broccoli. My wife's Bistecca was a tender medium with the a subtle taste of coffee in the rub. The squash and carrots complemented the dish nicely. Unfortunately, we were too full to have dessert, but we will be back!

I have had hundreds of helpings of bolognese over the years and this one was a winner. Lots of sauce and plenty of meat. Served with Parmesan and basil in beautiful pasta bowl. Service was wonderful and friendly. We will return!
