We had been looking for a local farm-to-table experience when we found Campo di Bella. Our first visit was a Saturday evening which consisted of a five course meal. Everything about the evening was exceptional. The first course was bruschetta, followed by a refreshing fresh salad with lemon dressing. The main course was flank steak, cooked perfectly. This was followed by a cheese board with delectable cheese samples from local dairies. For dessert, they had an absolutely amazing home made vanilla ice cream. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We enjoyed it so much, that we immediately reserved a second dinner which had cider braised pork shoulder as the entree. Again, the meal was exceptional. It started with prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. I've never had prosciutto sliced so thinly, it was tender and flavorful. This was followed by a butternut squash soup that was thick and rich. I didn't know butternut squash could be so flavorful. I cleaned my bowl so thoroughly that the host jokingly asked if they forgot to serve me. The pork was next. Served with honey crisp apples. It was tender and perfectly juicy. Again, a cheese board was served before dessert. All very tasty local cheeses. For dessert, a French apple tart. I could have eaten a whole tray, it was so good. I've now been there over 20 times. Every time has been exceptional. They offer a variety of wines, ciders, and local beer to go with your meal. They also make their own vermouth which is sweet, with a hint of clove. It's so good, in fact, that we like it on the rocks. Not mixed. The host, Mary Ann, is wonderful. She takes time before each course to provide background on the home grown or locally sourced ingredients. She also gives a history of the farm and her family and, if the season permits, offers a tour of their farm. Marc (Mary Ann's Husband) is the chef. He is a culinary wizard. As I mentioned, I've been back over 20 times, which equates to almost 80 different dishes. All of them amazing! My only criticism (it's a minor one) is that the room is small and cozy and it can get a bit loud inside. It depends on the crowd, but it can be a bit hard to carry a conversation. In summary: exceptional food and exceptional people. I could not recommend it more. Update (12/13/24): We've been coming back to Campo di Bella for the last 5 years. We had a five course dinner, and each course was delicious. The appetizer was just the right amount of food to whet the appetite, and was lovely. The second course was gnocchi. The texture of the gnocchi was so very pleasing - little pillows of goodness. The main course of polenta, mushrooms and house-made italian sausage with polenta was hearty and wonderful. As always, the cheese course was very tasty with several lical cheeses I had never before tried. (I look forward to having them again at home . Dessert was divine! I am not usually a fan of chocolate, but this was delicious! At this restaurant, they use local ingredients as much as they can, too. Give Campo a try if you haven't already. I discovered this farm restaurant while staying at the B&B in Mount Horeb, WI. It is easy to find, just a couple miles outside of town. The dining room is pleasant, nothing fancy. Each group sits at their own table (which is normal, but somehow I thought we would be sitting communally -- maybe because there was only one dinner served). The food is very delicious. We had a starter of a rustic bread with olive oil and a couple glasses of wine. The host is very good about helping you select a wine that you will like. She is very personable and loves to chat about food. I chatted with her for quite a while after all the other guests left because I asked her for recommendations on shopping for local cheese. Our first course was a butternut squash soup, which was creamy and delicious. Our main course was a polenta with sausage and mushrooms. It was also delicious. The dessert was a butternut squash panna cotta, topped with honey. Delicious! I enjoyed the evening very much. read more

This unique establishment is reservation only on Friday & Saturday nights. It sits on a farm so it is literally farm to table food- and it was out of this world! The family is Italian, so most of the dishes are Italian, but authentic Italian. Tonight we dined on the porchetta cenetta which was truly amazing. The time and effort (3 days) put into this was 100% worth it. Third course was like a chocolate oatmeal cookie pie, also delicious. The ambiance is delightful, sitting on a farm in Mt. Horeb, overlooking the hills and the sunset. The wine flows with heavy pours. I would encourage everyone to try this unique dinner- you won't regret it! read more

We had a terrific evening with friends and enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal. We added a couple of appetizers to start. EVERYTHING they served was delicious. And the setting is wonderful too. I would recommend getting appetizers as the 3 courses are not large servings, and appetizers will allow you to try a few more items from their repertoire. read more

I wish I could give this place another half star, but I'm settling on three instead of four. The positives have all been written about already: It really is an exceptional location on a working farm. From our table outside on the patio we were surrounded by beautiful fields. Upon arrival a friendly dog met us and stayed with us periodically during the meal. The staff was decent and friendly enough, but the negative was huge to me: There wasn't enough food in the fixed-price dinner. The three courses were all good but very small. It was a lasagna dinner and it came without bread. What kind of Italian restaurant, bragging about their high-quality baking, serves lasagna without bread!? No bread for you unless you pay extra. They offer appetizers for an additional cost and we got one, but I still left hungry. The spot is definitely worthwhile but unfortunately there was a cheapness about the meal, like "this is all you get and you'll like it". I guess the price for the fixed meal wasn't terrible, but I would rather pay more and get more generous portions. I would have even settled for a typical portion as seen in any other restaurant without complaint, but there was far too much empty space on my plates to be excited about the meal. read more

Campo di Bella is more than just dinner and wine, it's an experience! We were seated at big long tables with the other guests (not too close, but close enough to converse if you want), and each course came with a lovely story of where the food was coming from. Between the main course of a perfect filet mignon, smashed potato, and balsamic mushrooms and the cheeseboard, the owner's son took us on a short tour of their farm. It was a beautiful evening to stroll around the Wisconsin countryside. They have goats, pigs, chickens, and puppy dogs. The dessert was just the most delightful ending to a lovely meal. Not overdone, just simply good food and great environment. We also stayed in their airbnb above the apartment which was fabulous! We enjoyed a bottle of wine on the patio under the pergola before sinking into a white fluffy bed for the night. read more

I attended one of their famous dinners with a friend. After checking in and grabbing libations, we roamed the grounds a bit (a working farm) and looked at the pretty scenery and livestock. Raised beds were already planted with the ingredients of summer meals to come. It's bucolic and lovely--a great place for lovers. When it was time, we sat at our assigned seats, family-style at long tables. Our waiters were the family's children and friends--they were absolutely charming. The matriarch of the family introduced herself, the winery's mission, and then the guests of honor--an apiarist (beekeeper) and his wife, who provided the featured ingredient for the night (honey). Each course was introduced with a little background: pasta e prosciutto (this MAY have been my favorite), chicken piccata w/cipolla agradolce, crostini featuring three types of brie. The last was handmade honey ice cream with carmelized walnuts. It was insane. My taste buds were dancing, and I'm not one for Italian food. The bathrooms were very clean, and there appeared to be more than enough parking. We were given honey to take home with us (a choice of wildflower, comb, or whipped). I'm enjoying my wildflower honey every morning in my tea. I should mention here that there were about 6-8 choices of wine to enjoy (this is a winery, after all!). I didn't, however, imbibe. Wine and I are not friends. I enjoyed a craft beer instead, and then stuck with water for the rest of the evening because I like to keep my wits about me when enjoying food of that caliber. What a gem! I've been here twice now with groups of friends for dinner and wine. It's been very enjoyable both times. You can experience a little bit of Italy on a working Wisconsin farm. There are theme dinners that look wonderful even though, as a vegetarian, I can't partake in many of them. They raise and serve their own heritage pork and lamb as well as vegetables from their farm. The wine selection is varied and they have an affordable wine tasting option to help you select the wine(s) you prefer. There is a beautiful, modern indoor seating area and a spacious patio that looks out over the farm. You can't ask for friendlier hosts. As my husband and I were walking up to the building, we got the vibe that we were about to interrupt the family in the middle of dinner (obviously though we weren't). You can have tasting / samples of wine without an appointment but there's no point (at this time of year) since the wine they have came from other wineries so chances are you have already tried them. What a great night my husband and I had here last night! Every course was delicious...kale caesar salad, bowtie pasta with pesto, grilled steak with balsamic and vegetable ragout, a cheese board and strawberry sorbet. Campo di Bella is my new favorite "special dinner" place in the greater Madison area. Nestled in the beautiful country side of Mount Horeb with rolling hills, and dramatic sunsets, lives this lovely farmette and restaurant for a true farm to table experience. The owners, Mary Ann and Marc, not only own this lovely restaurant, they are the chefs and residents on this farmette. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute we spent there. From sitting on the terraced patio with pre-dinner wine to the fantastic 5 course meal. The entire meal featured produce from local CSA, Vermont Valley Farm. The starter was beet salad, to zucchini & Gruyère cheese, to the delicious main course, Ratatouille, followed by a stunning cheese platter featuring one of my favorites, hooks. After that we were offered a personal tour of their picturesque farm. Once we got back, a delicious ice cream with a reduced balsamic & apricot sauce was waiting for us. I just love this place. I moved to Madison about a year and a half ago. This past summer I came across Campo di Bella by accident. I was immediately taken in with Mary Ann and her family. It has become my happy place. Good Wine and Good food. I've attended several Farm to Table meals and have enjoyed each one! I've given it 5 stars because it just makes me happy. I like to leave a restaurant feeling like I got a good meal for a good value and sadly I can't say that with my experience here. The wine selection is nice and this is a good place to take a date just to grab a glass of wine and enjoy it at a rural farm type setting. It's very pretty here. The problem is with the value part. Mt Horeb is beginning to suffer from restaurants that are overpriced and this place is no exception. The portions were tiny. The cheese plate that we shared between 4 adults only gave us a small bite size piece of 4 varieties and it was $14. The salad was also just a few leaves of lettuce and everyone at my table agreed it was too small for the price. The main entree, which happened to be spaghetti marinara (no meat) was $15. It was good but again, the portion was small. Lastly, we ordered a bread as it didn't come with the entree. The owner brought out this tiny piece of bread to share between 4 people. It was literally laughable how small it was and it was like $5 or so. The main reason why I was really bothered by my experience is because the owner, who was a seemingly nice lady, was waitressing all alone. We witnessed people at other tables shaking their heads as they waited to order more wine. A lot of empty glasses because the owner apparently doesn't want to hire and pay for help. Don't expect to grab a quick meal here or to get prompt service. I can't explain why there is no hired help but it gave me the impression that the owner wants to keep all the profits for herself at the expense of the customers. Maybe that's not the case, but I don't know why else she wouldn't hire people so the patrons can get the prompt service they are paying for. It just doesn't look good. Our bill for 4 people with wine included was right around $300. So if you go here, be prepared to drop about $75 per person if you drink wine. Glasses of wine if I remember were around $8 to $12 per glass. My recommendation to the owner would be to hire some help and make your portions bigger. If she did those two things, the experience could have been much better. read more

Attended a dinner with my husband and parents for a special night! It is a fantastic start to a very dreamy dining experience. We left thrilled, understanding it is a very small family run business just getting their feet off the ground. The concept and natural setting were beautiful... Everything fresh and organic, with a little introductory story before each course. Not sure if the lamb and french herbed potatoes could ever be topped! So delicious, and I had no idea I even liked lamb. It was about to storm and when we arrived, we were pleased to see there was an actual indoor dining room (and not just a tent). They have a bar that's a little too small for taste testing the wine, and the acoustics make it very loud- but they are on their way to something big! To start you cannot beat the drive out to the farm. It is stunning through the beautiful hilly terrain near Mount Horeb. Then the farm to table experience, with all of Wisconsin's bounty, was spectacular. We went for the vegetarian meal, perfect fit for August. We happened upon this little winery on our way home. It looks like you are taking a wrong turn but then you end up at this fantastic little tasting room and farm. We sampled their own wine as well as several others from Italy, France and California. The wines were selected to pair with their food and were very delicious. We were not expecting to stay for dinner but were so impressed that we decided to get theor three course dinner. We had a cheese board, pesto pasta and mint ice cream. Although it's a bit of a drive from Madison, Campo di Bella is easy to find. Appetizers are classic and delicious-- especially the Bruschetta. I could have eaten the whole pan! I love this place! I attended their Pasta Bolognese Cooking Demonstration Class and it was awesome. They showed us how to make authentic Italian Bolognese sauce - using pork and vegetables from their own farm. Delicious! They even made fresh pasta, shared the recipes and sat down with us for a meal that was to die for. We stumbled on Campo di Bella by a flyer in another restaurant. We are glad we did. We attended a Farm to Table dinner on 03/28/15 and was pleasantly surprised. The 5 coarse meal was exceptional. The care and work that went into the dinner was obvious and the owners were knowledgeable in what they prepared. We especially enjoyed the family type seating allowing us to meet and dine with some warm and friendly people. It was an enjoyable outing for us and we would not hesitate to recommend. read more
