Stopped by Balanced Rock Winery on a Sunday afternoon. They had a variety of white, blush and red wines to choose from. I tried a wine flight (4 wine tastings for $15). Overall, I thought the wines were rather sweet, not my fav, but my favorite was the St Pepin! The pricing for glasses and bottles is very reasonable. Looking around, the food others ordered looked delicious! While I visited on a cold day, the outdoor patio space looked AMAZING! They also had a driving range right next to the wine vines but one would need to bring their old clubs. Great summer spot to enjoy good weather but wines were only okay in my opinion. read more

We stopped back again for our anniversary and loved our visit here. They stopped doing tastings but you can get a flight of 4 wines instead. We did miss trying a few more wines but they let us taste others if we wanted. It was pretty quiet when we first got here on a weekday but then a few potential regulars showed up for mid day cocktails and it got a little louder on the patio. Otherwise, the view was perfect, the staff were friendly and we liked the chips and salsa basket. This is a super cute winery, and I really enjoyed the wines I decided to taste. Service was a little lacking as I almost felt unwelcome with the other three girls I came with. I was on my bachelorette trip so maybe that was why. I came in with a sash on, which obviously doesn't mean I deserve any type of special treatment but a little extra warmth would've been appreciated. We were one of only two groups in there at the time and we did not make any type of commotion, but it still felt as though we were being an annoyance just by coming in. There were no other patrons when we stopped in & had to put a little effort into the interaction to get rolling on tastings. We were recommended this place by our server at the brewery down the street and it was a great recommendation! We didn't even know Wisconsin wine was a thing but we made the drive out from Madison to try it, it was bingo night when we got there- and quite busy, but they were able to get us our wine flights quickly and we sat outside overlooking the bluffs, the employees were nice enough to turn the fire pit on for us- we even saw some deer grazing in the field and got to watch sunset against the bluffs which was pretty great. I will say the four wines I tried weren't my favorite but overall the experience was great, I do wish we got to try on a non-event night but it is what it is. read more

while we were in lovely Baraboo, Wisconsin, we decided to go to balanced rock winery. The winery is situated in the Rollinghills of Baraboo. It was beautiful, clean, and the service was amazing. We each ordered a flight of wine, and went to sit outside and look at the beautiful rolling Hills. The people on the patio were also fabulous. I've never seen camaraderie like that at a winery ever. I love Balanced Rock Winery! Where to begin? They have wonderful options for wine tasting, with excellent sized pours. One of the servers was so kind and allowed us to split a wine tasting (as neither of us wanted drink a lot that night, but still wanted a sampler). They also have lot of fun little eats- charcuterie, flatbread, typical wine bar food- all yum. Definitely the type of place to order multiple things to share. And the views! Wonderful mid-week visit arriving just after opening. Only my wife and I, and two other couples. We both had a four glass (3oz) flight. I like reds and they were yummy - not sweet, after dinner type wines. Wife equally pleased with a white flight. The wines, history of their names, etc were explained nicely by staff. We also had lunch. I had nachos (please add jalapeños) and my wife had the humus plater. Both very good and generous. We bought three bottles on the way out. We wanted to sit outside but way too hot. Snazzy little place right up the street from Devil's Lake. It looks pretty sharp inside and gorgeous views outside. We went for a group wine tasting with friendly staff. The reds are a bit rough, young tasting. The white wines are sweet. Very sweet. Really sweet. And some of the red wines are too. I prefer dry reds but if sweet is your thing, you'll love it. A great all round winery. I enjoyed this visit and got to meet owner Matt B. We spoke for a while and it was fun to learn from him about their wines and the industry in WI overall. The venue is cool! I here the live music artist they get ate solid as well. None was playing on my visit so I guess Im coming back again. All 7 wines I tasted were good! Even the whites i typically pass on, those were legit too. Josephine and Anastasia are my top two favorites for sure. The property shares an adjacent gold course with sprawling views of the Baraboo horizon and forestry that surrounds the winery. I only wish it had vineyard on site as well as have other vineyards im used to going to. That aside, the people, the place, the wine, all good in mt hook and worth a road trip up (as in my case) to check them out. read more

TL:DR - The most memorable stop we made in Baraboo. Lots of wine choices, most being on the sweeter side. The owner Matt was super nice and a pleasure to talk to. Venue was gorgeous with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Food was delicious. The onion dip was amazing and the pub pretzel was good and HUGE. Most of my reviews on wineries will be primarily focused on things other than the wine, simply because there are so many different options and flavors to wines, that it's hard to dock a winery based on my personal taste in wine. But the venue is beautiful and located next to a country club. I wouldn't say it has AMAZING views, but the it is in a beautiful setting that you can easily enjoy a glass of wine. They have a nice patio on the side, some picnic tables on the grass, and ample high and low tables indoors. I came in at 5pm on a Monday, and it was relatively empty. We were served by one of the owners, Matt who was delightful to talk to about wine and his story. I believe they have weekly music on Wednesday? Don't quote me on that. But at the moment they don't have their own vines yet, they're coming in. Most of his current wines are made with bought grapes from outside sources. One thing I learned while tasting, is that people from Wisconsin do like their wines sweet... So if you like sweet wines, you'll enjoy these here. My favorite was the Seyval, it was crisp and fruity with a slight dry finish as to not put it into sweet wine territory. But aside from the different wines, I was super impressed with their food. My partner and I ordered the house onion dip and pub pretzel. We originally ordered the dip since it was cheap and didn't think much of it when we placed the order, but oh my gosh, it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. It is your basic onion dip, but it had a great consistency between sour cream and cream cheese, and had great balanced flavor between the general cream and onion flavor. The pretzel itself is also HUGE. I'm honestly flabbergasted that we finished. I would say this can easily be an appetizer for 3-4 people. The accompanying mustard was SUPER horseradish-y, we honestly didn't need that much. The cheese was delicious and we definitely asked for another dipping cup of that, to which the owner replied "Of course you can have another cup of cheese, it's Wisconsin!" All in all, this was one of the best stops we made while in Baraboo. Will most definitely come back next time to check out the grapes and to eat more food! read more

Its a nice modern winery bar. Had a tasting of many of the flavors offered and I usually like whites and sweet fruity types and actually really enjoyed a red. Place is clean and obviously new and staff was nice and attentive and said with each pore the general tastes and notes of the wines flavors. They have appetizer type foods like a soft pretzel or meat and cheese plate. Outside tables to look out at the scenery . Not many bottles of wine out on shelf to purchase but didn't ask if anymore was available was content on the tasting. About $7 per person for half a shot plastic cup for maybe 7 or 8 pours and $1 for any extra flavors not on tasting menu. They also have beers and malt beverages or white claw type of drinks or special made mixed drinks. Ill definitely go back maybe try the mixed drinks or relax on patio. Only thing that was confusing was the service part. They have tables like a sit down restaurant/winery but you need to go to the bar. The bartender didn't say anything as we sat for 10+ mins because she was too engulfed in a conversation to notice us. Regardless I would go back because everything else was great! read more

Beautifully located on the top of a hill that overlooks the beautiful Baraboo bluffs. Not only is the view amazing the building is pretty unique and beautiful looking as well, inside and out. This place is amazing! Wine is good and reasonably priced. We got a bottle of the rose and enjoyed it thoroughly! We ordered wine as well as nachos and the hot pretzel, everything tasted great. Service was good, no complaints. There was live music tonight and it was so enjoyable, the musician even sang happy birthday to my son. We will be back! Modern winery that's a nice place to stop after a hike around Devil's lake. They have a large outdoor patio that allowed for safe social distancing. We did a sampler.
