Looking for something to do while out in southwest Wisconsin four of us got to Botham Vineyards for the first time. We lined up at the tasting counter, and for ten bucks we sampled them all. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and personable. From the store we bought some pre-packaged charcuterie and snack, paid for a few bottles of their wine and headed to the patio. The sunny patio on the south side of the building is a nice scene. Plenty of tables and chairs, very comfortable. Pro tip? Seemed like the regulars brought their own snacks and food to the patio. A better choice than what's available in the store.

Beautiful grounds, and huge!

Spacious, beautiful grounds, with rolling hills, lots of room for parking, tasty wine and happy people.  I had a great time with my husband at their annual vintage car show, sipping on a glass of Vin10 (sweetish white).  We had a little hiccup getting in.  More on that later. For the vintage car show going on that day, they had a live band, and tons of unique vintage cars to peruse.  Unfortunately, my husband just wanted to look at the cars and leave, so we weren't there long. I paid $7 for a glass of wine to sip during our car browsing.  Later on, I made my way into the barn for the free sampling (3 of them).  Don't get too excited, the samples are basically a sip from a tiny little "cough syrup" sized cup.  But it was nice to be able to sample before buying.  They were all tasty.  I only like sweet wines, so I enjoyed the 3 sweeter ones they had, but didn't purchase any bottles. ISSUES: My 2 issues were not related to the actual wine or service, but more towards the planners of the vintage car show.  While the website did say it would cost $10/person to attend the car show, the website DID NOT indicate that you needed CASH ON HAND before you could even enter the parking lot.  I figured we could pay the entrance fee inside with a debit card. We had to awkwardly turn our large truck around, with people waiting behind us in their cars, drive 15 minutes to the next town to find an ATM, and drive back.  By this point, my husband wanted to just look at the cars and leave.  We weren't thrilled that it cost us $20 to go to a car show to begin with, and then pay for wine as well. All the car shows back home in IL are FREE.   Just a suggestion:  either decrease your car show fee...or make it free.  I mean, people are buying wine while they're there, so you're making money anyway.  Just my 2 cents...

A terrific place to visit. The owners are delightful and the wines outstanding. Great destination if you are within a two hour drive.

It pulls you in to traverse among the building and the grape fields. They happened to have a 3 piece band playing and a celebration. The place was packed. They not only make wine but also a distillery as well. The stores and building were a perfect blend of culture and modern day appeal. We truly enjoyed the celebration. It was culminated by the owner himself giving a small speech of his roots and transition of coming to America. We had a blast! Definitely would come back if in area. Bought a few nice wines and whiskey before leaving. They have this band and get togethers throughout the year. The whiskey I purchased was made specifically for the 250th birthday of America. At $120 a bottle; $100 goes to veterans. The blend is a mix of red, white and blue corn in the amount of percent of the colors of the flag! The grain blends consists of three colors of corn, red (41.5%), white (40.9%) and blue (17.6%) mixed to match the percentage of colors on the American flag. Aged 6 years in new charred Wisconsin oak barrels! Stop here if you can!

So, we called around 10:30 and no one picked up. And when we left a voice-mail, they called us back saying that they called last night, which they didn't. That they told us the itinerary, which they didn't. The tour was supposed to start at 11, but they started at 10 and they had already started without us. On the website it says it starts at 11 on Sundays. Did I miss something? I am extremely disappointed. I really wish that they actually called us ahead of time and left a voicemail and informed us that it was canceled or that they decided to take another group, so that we had alternative plans for this weekend. We are disappointed that we missed out on other potential outings due to the lack of communication. We were really looking forward to the tour honestly. Instead, we feel like they are gaslighting us to believe that we are in the wrong by saying we never picked up and that we would've gone on the tour had we answered. Trust me, we would've picked up had we received a call. If we received an apology for the lack of communication, I would gladly rescind this review. It's a shame how they choose to approach their customers. I'm sure it would've been very fun to go, but based on my experience, I can't recommend.

We had been looking for a local farm-to-table experience when we found Campo di Bella. Our first…read morevisit was a Saturday evening which consisted of a five course meal. Everything about the evening was exceptional. The first course was bruschetta, followed by a refreshing fresh salad with lemon dressing. The main course was flank steak, cooked perfectly. This was followed by a cheese board with delectable cheese samples from local dairies. For dessert, they had an absolutely amazing home made vanilla ice cream. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We enjoyed it so much, that we immediately reserved a second dinner which had cider braised pork shoulder as the entree. Again, the meal was exceptional. It started with prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. I've never had prosciutto sliced so thinly, it was tender and flavorful. This was followed by a butternut squash soup that was thick and rich. I didn't know butternut squash could be so flavorful. I cleaned my bowl so thoroughly that the host jokingly asked if they forgot to serve me. The pork was next. Served with honey crisp apples. It was tender and perfectly juicy. Again, a cheese board was served before dessert. All very tasty local cheeses. For dessert, a French apple tart. I could have eaten a whole tray, it was so good. I've now been there over 20 times. Every time has been exceptional. They offer a variety of wines, ciders, and local beer to go with your meal. They also make their own vermouth which is sweet, with a hint of clove. It's so good, in fact, that we like it on the rocks. Not mixed. The host, Mary Ann, is wonderful. She takes time before each course to provide background on the home grown or locally sourced ingredients. She also gives a history of the farm and her family and, if the season permits, offers a tour of their farm. Marc (Mary Ann's Husband) is the chef. He is a culinary wizard. As I mentioned, I've been back over 20 times, which equates to almost 80 different dishes. All of them amazing! My only criticism (it's a minor one) is that the room is small and cozy and it can get a bit loud inside. It depends on the crowd, but it can be a bit hard to carry a conversation. In summary: exceptional food and exceptional people. I could not recommend it more. Update (12/13/24): We've been coming back to Campo di Bella for the last 5 years. At least 60 times or more and we've never been disappointed. Marc and Mary Ann are incredible hosts that continue to create amazing meals and experiences.

I am not usually a fan of chocolate, but this was delicious! At this restaurant, they use local ingredients as much as they can, too. Give Campo a try if you haven't already. We loved this winery!! Two thumbs all the way UP. I can say I agree with their saying, "Great…read moreviews, great wines, great times!" Their tasting room is huge. The have three large tasting bars. We came here on a wine tour with a group of 8 in our group alone, so everything was set up for us when we arrived and there was plenty of space for everyone. I'd say there were about 30 of us and there was so much extra space to accommodate even larger groups. Our tasting expert was kind, knowledgeable, and gave great recommendations without being pushy. We were so impressed with the wines! It's hard to compare wine tastings in California to Wisconsin but they were up there! They even had little crackers and chocolates to pair with the white/red selections. One of the red wines we took a bite of the chocolate first, sip of the wine, then another bite of the chocolate and it literally tasted like a fresh chocolate covered cherry. WOAH. We ended up buying a bottle of their Pinot Grigo (only $13!) to take out to take outside and enjoy for the remainder of the time we had there. The panoramic view of the Baraboo bluffs was STUNNING. This was the best part of the experience because it was perfect weather out and the fall colors of bluffs were gorgeous. Ladies and gents, if you're looking to get your cute fall pics, this is it- ha! Picnics are also welcome out there and they are even dog friendly!!
