Amelia's Galena Ghost Tours - The gorgeous tree at the cemetery.

Hello! Let me tell you the story of how our mother-daughter haunted tour date almost got ruined…read more My grandma bought my mom, my aunt, and me tickets for Amelia's Galena Ghost Tours at 6 p.m. There was nothing anywhere saying we needed to arrive early. We got there right at 6, parking directly behind the DeSoto house where the website said we would be meeting -- but there was no bus in sight. We started running around trying to find it, even went to their store, only to find the door locked and no one around. About 20 minutes later, my mom called to explain that we had arrived on time but no one was there. The lady on the phone said they had waited 20 minutes for us, looked for us, and then left. But if she had really been waiting, we would have seen her -- and definitely would have seen the bus! When my mom asked if we could move to the 7 p.m. tour instead, the lady said no because she "can't just give up the empty seats," and she wasn't very kind about it either. Eventually, she texted us later saying we could join the 7:30 p.m. tour for free. We decided to wait at a nearby restaurant and have a drink before the tour. We left around 7:12 to find the bus, got on, and they departed at 7:20. (10 minutes early) Our tour guide, Emily, was great -- she was super sweet and friendly. The driver (maybe the boss?) didn't seem as welcoming; she never spoke to us once and only talked during the investigation at the haunted house they own.

My family recently experienced the Amelia Ghost Tour (on the van) through Galena Illinois…read more Unfortunately, I did not read any reviews before the tour. If I had been more proactive, I would have avoided spending time and money on this tour. My family of 6 was over $200... definitely not worth the money. After the tour, I sat down to write/read the reviews. Each negative review repeatedly said the same thing, so I decided not to repeat what has already been said. Apparently, these negative reviews have not made any difference because nothing has changed. I guess I just don't understand how a company can be satisfied knowing so many customers are dissatisfied.

This winery offers wines made from grapes growing in Illinois, California and Chile…read more Located on a dirt road outside of Galena, the setting is georgous. You can sit outside on the patio overlooking the vineyard or even sit in the vineyard. You order your wine selection in the gift shop that also offers small plates. They have many different wine varieties and Andy who worked there gave us a detailed description of each one. Unfortunately he was also a sale person wanting you to spend money which was a turnoff. We each elected to do a tasting of 3 different wines - all reds .Unfortunately the beautiful setting was better than any of the wines we tasted. We walked away disappointed as we really wanted to buy a bottle to support a local business but we just didn't care for any of the 6 we tried. If you are in the area and want to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Galena Territory, give them a try and maybe you will find a wine that you will like.

You have to take a dirt road to get here but this winery has the most beautiful views and ambiance…read more Our hopes were high for the wine but unfortunately none of the reds we tasted were to our liking. In fact the flavor was so offensive to my pallet that I didn't finish any of the three varieties recommended. I really enjoy dry wines and stayed clear of the sweet so maybe that was the issue. The sales pressure was a real turnoff. I felt it was overpriced as well. Go for the views and the lovely garden patio but for dry red wine lovers I would fergedaboudit!

I wanted to love Rocky Waters Vineyard but our experience unfortunately fell short from start to…read morefinish. When driving up, none of the wine vines are visible as most are along the hillside that was covered by overgrown foliage. The main building has a residential log cabin feel that was turned into a main floor winery. When walking in, we were nicely greeted by a female staff member and an adorable pup! One orders food, tastings, or glasses at the counter and staff will bring it to you. We originally wanted to sit outside but quickly realized how buggy it was. We transitioned back inside just in time for our wines to be ready. The wine tasting came as (7) 1oz selections. The presentation was lack luster seeing they all came in a throw away plastic shot glass. They were kind to include a complimentary sample of their (2) slushie drinks of the day. Most of the wines had an odd bite or unique finishing note. Our favorite was the Tower Red Wine! The slushies weren't bad but they are made from a bag they also sell. Additionally, we ordered the Italian Dipping Oil. We saw them go to the back to make it fresh. It was the perfect sharing size but was definitely overpriced. Rocky Waters has so much potential but also has some room for growth to elevate the experience offered.

Very watery vinegar tasting wines. No body to them at all. Slushes were good. We pass in this one.read more
