Desert House of the Moon
Christopher P.

Without Vic's tireless commitment to our project this home would not have been possible. This custom house in its off-grid configuration has not only made the project possible, but has led to more work for my firm by attracting the interest of a progressive, sophisticated clientele. I can not say enough of Vic's years of experience in the field, and how his commitment to the job inspires the solar contractors he works with to take advantage of the latest technology & equipment available. I look forward to working with him again. Christopher Payne, AIA, LEED AP Architect

Everything working seamlessly. Thank you Vic.

The 4th year production shows improvement over the 3rd year as I kept the panels clean. However,…read moreit's still about 4.8% below the minimum guaranteed production (accounting 0.25% maximum annual panel degradation). It's 4 year in a row now the system failed to produce the minimum guaranteed production. AWS Solar chose to compensate for the shortfall again; we'll see what the 5th year production looks like. I suggested replacing some of the panels with the higher power ones to solve the issue, but I guess they want to see more data.

I hired AWS Solar to install solar panels on my home In May 2026. They completed the job a few…read moreweeks later. They did a very good jod. I am pleased. However, upon completeing the job, the project manager Tim Broughton called me, helped me log on to the Enphase app so that I could monitor the panels. After I confirmed that I was logged in, I was told that I was up and running And they were done. I was happy thinking I was now running on the sun. Wrong. So very wrong. I received my electric bill and astonished to see the electric portion was over $800.00. I called the power company and was told that the $130.00 application fee had not been paid. I notified Mr. Broughton and he immediatley saw that the bill for the application fee was paid and apologized for the error. Now the fun begins. I called the power company and asked when they would be out to install the proper meter for solar panels. I was informed that no application for a meter to be installed was on file and that I had to submit an application for interconnection. Hmm? No one mentioned anything to me about completing and application or that I had to contact the power company. I completed the PTO (Permission to Operate) form and based on the questions being asked and the information I needed to provide leads me to believe the Solar company was responsible for completing this form and sending the required fee. Ok. Lets not look to for someone to blame, lets just get the proper meter installed. I completed the PTO and submitted it. The power company came out a couple of weeks later and installed the a new meter. Onlyit was not a meter for solar panels. They installed the same new meter but it was the same meter as the meter I already had. I asked them why they didn't put on a solar meter and I was told that I needed to submit a PTO for a SOLAR METER, which is different. And by the way, they have a special person that installs solar meters and a special person to install regular meters. This seemed rather stupid to me. I ask the power comapany rep for the contact info for the solar department and he told he didn't know. I won't name the power company. LADwp. The one good thing the DWP rep did upon arriving to his office was to send an email to contact the proper department at the power company. I assumed he would have just gone about his business and let me flounder. I started on the second application which asked for job site photos. This was to me another indication that the solar installer was suppose to complete this form because Joe Citizen would not know what photos they were required. I did observe that periodically, the workers would take photos, but none were ever sent to me. Now I'm in the middle of August 2026 with fingers, legs, arms, eyes and anything else, maybe the dogs and cats, crossed hoping that this time I will get a meter. The bottom line is I would still recommend AWS SOLAR to anyone, but I'd have to caution them to make sure they get you connected and ALL fees are paid. Because I was dealing with the City of LA and being constantly sent to voice mail and waiting for call backs, this experience was horrendous.

What was most impressive about him is that he helped us understand why some of the other projects we had in the pipeline really needed to happen first before we did solar. It was comprehensive and thorough, so when the time is right for doing solar, we're excited to work with them. I've already recommended them to a few friends.

I really appreciate the direct accountability and quick resolution. I'm leaving my original review below for transparency, but their prompt response today restored my confidence in their management. I originally had a positive experience with California Solar Electric during my 10.12 kW solar and Powerwall 3 installation last year. Unfortunately, their post-install customer support and business ethics are nonexistent. I referred a friend who completed their installation months ago. I was explicitly promised a $500 referral bonus for this. After months of waiting, I tried following up multiple times privately to give them a chance to make it right, but I am now being completely ignored. It's a shame because I have several neighbors here in Fountain Valley who are currently shopping around for solar and battery storage. I was planning to refer them here, but I cannot recommend a company that fails to honor its own written agreements and ducks communication. Buyer beware: the installation team does good work, but do not trust a word management says about referral incentives or post-sale promises. Still waiting for my $500.

Mostly, some of the solar panels on the flag roof were visible from the ground. I asked them about dropping the angle of the panels, to make them not visible, and they said they would look into it after we passed inspection. But then when I asked again after inspection, they said the angle could not be changed. I was disappointed that they were not able to fix this issue. Also, some of the equipment was located close to one of the windows, instead of being located more centrally on a wall between the windows, so it was visible when looking out the window at an angle. As I noted, small details. If I would have written this review 3 years ago, I probably would have given them 5 stars. However, I recently had solar installed on my house by another contractor (got a quote from Altadena, but they were about 10% more expensive, and I decided to go with a contractor who was local to where I live). While the contractor did a good job on the install, there were some of the technical details that fell short, included them selecting a panel upgrade that can not accommodate a CT (which measures power consumed). But this experience made me realize that Altadena Solar actually is pretty good. My one recommendation is if you have specific aesthetic preferences, be sure to be there during the operations.

Update for my review with OC - Savannah from customer service reached out regarding my experience…read moreand expressed regret over how things went and changes were actively happening at the company. She offered a free panel cleaning, which she set up internally and had their team come out this past Friday without issue. Since the cleaning the panels have been much better performing especially after these past few weeks of misting and rain, about 25% higher output. I didn't think much of it but I get now it's worth doing to get the most out of the panels. Overall a very good response and experience with OC specifically for this issue. I feel that they do want to stand out from the crowd and responding proactively to feedback gives me more confidence they'll take care of issues as they hear about them.

In mid-August our system stopped producing power. We didn't find out until our utility bill came in roughly $600 higher than normal. Since then, we've sent multiple emails and submitted a service request with no response. I finally reached someone by phone and, after escalating to a manager, they committed to sending a technician today at 4pm. No one showed up and no one called. When we call back, we sit on hold, get an auto response we're being transferred to customer support, and then the line goes silent before we are ultimately sent to a voicemail service. A 25-year installation warranty means nothing if the company won't answer the phone or show up. Every day our system is down costs us money. If you're considering OC Solar, ask hard questions about how they handle service after the sale. I'll update this review if they make it right.
