After posting my review, Hans began responding to my emails, and we eventually reached a mutual agreement to redesign the system in a way that better met our electrical needs. They also included battery storage and covered the permitting costs, which provided some compensation for the system's 1.5 years of underproduction and the significant time and effort we invested in resolving the issue. Overall, we're glad that we were able to reach an amicable resolution. read more

Joy and Hans were great, and super helpful along the way. Our system was beautifully installed, and customized to the needs of our property. They helped us sort through lots of options and configurations. Prices were competitive with bigger 'name' companies. We really prefer using local companies, especially with something like solar, where having them nearby is a benefit. I would highly recommend you talk to Altadena Energy & Solar over one of the bigger national companies. read more

Altadena Energy & Solar - Solar Installation Near Me - Pasadena, California

Finding contractors who are reliable, communicate well, and provide a quality product at a fair price is always the goal, so I'm thrilled to have found this company. They installed the system 10 months ago, and comparing their power production estimates with my electricity bills, I can see they underpromised and overdelivered. I'm very happy with the system they installed, especially since they also handled the city permitting and paperwork on my behalf. Nicely done. read more

Altadena Solar is a small local business that installed my solar panels a couple of years ago. They were very helpful, reliable and professional. I'm very happy with my system and their service. If we've had any issues, they've been mostly caused by my own inability to pay attention. For example, after installation, a part in the system failed. I didn't track the system performance as advised and didn't notice that my system stopped working, but they did! They ordered a new part and installed it free of charge. One year later, I noticed my kitchen ceiling had a small round discoloration. I assumed it was a water leak and contacted them thinking their installation must have created a leak. They immediately came over and Were able to wipe the stain and discovered it was not a leak but possibly caused in the process of food prep. I was embarrassed and felt terrible about wasting their time. However, they were kind and understanding throughout. I highly recommend this business. read more

I have a solar system that was installed 10 years ago, by a company that is no longer in business. One of my solar panels was not working. Was try to give a local business a try and called Altadena Energy & Solar, what a disappointment this was. Their first thing they say is that "we're short on technicians, but I can take your info and call you back tomorrow ". Well, a week later, still no call back, nothing. They should have just told me that they only want full installation and didn't want to do a troubleshooting and repair job... and for this I give them a generous one star. read more

Altadena Solar installed a 6.6 kW system for us in October of 2019 (delayed review). Overall at the time I thought it was ok, but was disappointed by a few details. Mostly, some of the solar panels on the flag roof were visible from the ground. I asked them about dropping the angle of the panels, to make them not visible, and they said they would look into it after we passed inspection. But then when I asked again after inspection, they said the angle could not be changed. I was disappointed that they were not able to fix this issue. Also, some of the equipment was located close to one of the windows, instead of being located more centrally on a wall between the windows, so it was visible when looking out the window at an angle. As I noted, small details. If I would have written this review 3 years ago, I probably would have given them 5 stars. However, I recently had solar installed on my house by another contractor (got a quote from Altadena, but they were about 10% more expensive, and I decided to go with a contractor who was local to where I live). While the contractor did a good job on the install, there were some of the technical details that fell short, included them selecting a panel upgrade that can not accommodate a CT (which measures power consumed). But this experience made me realize that Altadena Solar actually is pretty good. My one recommendation is if you have specific aesthetic preferences, be sure to be there during the operations. read more

For our solar I really wanted a local company that didn't subcontract out their installations. They were willing to modify their initial quote to use particular products I wanted to use, did a great job with installation, fast and very neat, and answered all our questions. They seem like a great company and we're looking forward to having lower AC bills next summer. read more

After installing our initial solar system, we bought a Tesla, and so we called Altadena Energy and Solar to install a charger and some additional panels to support it. As before, everything went very smoothly. Joy and Hans helped us decide how many panels to add and used a modeling program to figure out the best placement. Once again, they handled all of the permits, which were all promptly approved. We will be contacting them again to install a battery as soon as we have saved enough money for it. Thanks Hans, Joy, and crew for your great work. read more

Hans and Joy are an absolute pleasure to work with. Hans did an extremely thorough job making sure I understood every aspect of the quote and proposal that they put together and made sure I understood what the trade-offs would be given various panel placement options on my particular roof. He and his team also worked with me on installing an upgraded roof coating material and doing an electrical upgrade that I had been considering for a while, and with my new cool-roof white coating, my home is much cooler in the sun than it used to be and I don't have any roof leaks anymore! The communication from Hans and Joy was phenomenal throughout. I always knew exactly where we stood in the process, and they kept me updated on the rebate paperwork (that they submitted for me!) and permitting as they worked through them. I was very pleasantly surprised at how quick and painless the installation process was, and I couldn't be happier with the system I have in place. I'm now offsetting 100% of my home's electricity usage with the sun! :) read more

Not sure why these guys only have 4 reviews but from start to finish Hans and Joy were great to deal with. From the initial consultation to the moment we switched the system on they were on top of it. Like most everyone, we initially requested quotes from 4 companies (all 4.5-5 star on yelp). Not only was Joy's initial consult the most thorough, explaining all of the various options but their quote was actually the least expensive. Our system is now on and producing great results! Blasting the A/C guilt free is priceless. Don't select your solar installer solely based on the number of reviews! We're glad we didn't! Edit: I see that they also have a bunch of 5-star hidden reviews. They probably just didn't want to pay Yelp's extortion fees which they state doesn't change the way the algorithms run. What a great experience working with Altedana Solar. I did a lot of research and couldn't decide what company to work with. Our neighbor recommended Altadena Solar and I am so grateful. From the minute we met Hans we knew we were in good hands. It's one of the best decisions we have made, both getting solar and doing it with Hans and Joy. We've had solar energy for a year now and we love it! read more

This is a great company. We've been running for two months now on a 21-panel residential install done by Altadena Energy & Solar. The entire install process took about a month from agreement to install to PWP permit. The panels work great, our electricity bill is almost nothing, and they have been very responsive to any questions we email them. We really like that they're a local business and close by. And also that they're willing to provide datasheets and hardware specs for all the equipment installed. read more

They installed our solar system and its been great. Good price, good service. Hans and Joy are a pleasure to work with.

This review is long overdue. We've be running our system for a year now and could not be happier. From start to finish we had an amazing experience with Hans and Joy! They guided us through each step of the process and worked with us to determine exactly what we needed in regards to system size and how exactly to maximize the efficiency. We never felt pressured to buy anything and always felt like they had our best interests in mind. The customer service has been second to none as well. During the install process we had a few issues with permits from the city and Hans took care of it without us having to worry about it. Also, we recently had an issue with our inverter and it was Hans that actually realized we were having an issue through their monitoring. He reached out to us directly to ask if we were having problems. I honestly think it would have been a week or longer before I realized that our system wasn't functioning properly and they caught it within a day. They had a tech out to diagnose and fix the problem 24 hours later and it was all covered under warranty with no hassle to us. If you're in the market for anything solar, look no further. I would highly recommend going with Altadena Energy and Solar! read more

Initially, I was prepared to go with a bigger company but after hearing about Altadena Energy & Solar, decided to chat with them first. I met with Joy and was impressed with her and Hans' genuine passion for the environment and solar energy. It really feels like they do this for the sole purpose of getting more people to go solar. They're small but have been around for over ten years. Their experience and knowledge of the latest technology was apparent from the start. They're flexible and easy to work with, placating my indecisiveness with multiple estimates for different layout options, including one with a patio cover build out! We settled on a layout that would completely cover my energy usage and they handled the rest quickly and smoothly. They were fast, efficient and thorough. Completely trustworthy. I felt like I was in good hands with Joy, Hans and Bobby. read more

Altadena Energy & Solar came highly recommended to me by two different friends. We finished the job and had our last communication today. I'm very happy with the result. Every conversation and installation step along the way was conducted with a high level of expertise, respect and transparency. They are completely reliable and thorough. I would recommend them without hesitation. read more

We had the best experience with Altadena Energy and Solar. From the initial visit and in-depth quotes and information packet which gave us a total understanding of each component, payment options and return on investment to the actual installation, we couldn't have asked for better service. They made sure that the installation was convenient for us, working around our schedule, including them having to deal with our two big dogs. From the time we signed the agreement to the finalization, the process was less than the 3 months that they had told us and the actual install took only two days. They were also on top of all correspondence, answering us in a timely manner. We highly recommend them. read more

Altadena Solar has installed for me solar panels, a car charger, and a battery back up system. All of them are working well. Additionally, Hans and his colleagues at Altadena Solar have done a wonderful job of working the process thru the county, will all permits and rebates approved and delivered as promised. Altadena Solar is, in my opinion, the Nordstroms of the solar industry. Their products, installation, and customer service are among the best I've ever encountered. read more

Couldn't have been more helpful, professional and transparent during the design and building. All of the permits and approvals sailed through. Performance of our system has exceeded expectations. To top it off, I feel like we have a friendly expert on hand, not just for the solar but also for the car charger. So glad we didn't go with a "corporate" provider. Thank you , Hans and Joy! read more

Altadena Energy & Solar is fantastic. I started my work with them around May/June, and have my solar installed and operating about two months ago. From beginning to end, they took care of everything. Joy and Hans and everyone at Altadena Energy and Solar were great. Highly recommend!!!!

We've been thinking about going solar for years and finally when we got tired of our escalating electric bills we decided to make the plunge. We, as everyone should, did our due diligence and got estimates from multiple companies. Joy from Altadena Energy & Solar was our initial contact and she proved to be extremely knowledgeable about the business. She listened to our needs and concerns and explained the process of generating solar power in a simple straight forward way. She gave us many options for a variety of panels / inverters and explained the differences in an easily understandable fashion. Everything went smoothly. All questions that we had we're quickly answered and we never felt abandoned during any part of the project. The process isn't a one day procedure as there are a variety of hoops you have to jump through with the utility company and the city/county permits. Joy and Hans handled every aspect of the install including roof inspection, engineering design, permitting and installation. Their crew was friendly and respectful. Everything went extremely well without any problems. After turn on they had us set up to monitor our system using our smart phones / tablet. Although we did not add a whole house battery backup system they pre-planned and we are ready to add that when the time comes. I highly recommend Altadena Energy & Solar and working with Joy and Hans was a pleasure. You can take a quick peek here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcD7n5s96NA read more

Hans and Joy went above and beyond to make my dream of solar come to fruition. From working closely with me on the amount of power the system would produce, to discussing pros and cons of alternative solar providers, and to covering all of the various financing options---they provided full service and A++ customer service. They are thorough, committed, and very professional. I was so happy to work with a small business solar provider, I hope you will too! read more

Living in Southern California, it seems more than logical to install a solar energy system. My husband and I recently purchased a large (primarily electric) house in Glendora and decided that we did not want to pay the enormous electric bills, plus we want to reduce our energy foot-print. We asked a few solar companies for quotes, but only Altadena Energy and Solar actually came out and did an analysis of the sun/shade pattern on the site destined for the panels (we ended up installing 40). It was a simple procedure, but so logical and helpful. We were sold. Our panels have up been up and running for 4 months and my husband's newest hobby is monitoring how much energy we produce...he's a bit obsessed...it's fun. We would happily recommend Altadena Energy and Solar to anyone interested in taking control of their own energy production. Both Steven and Hans were very professional and enthusiastic which made the overall experience very enjoyable. We are truly pleased. read more

Altadena Solar is the best. If you are getting solar, get it from Hans. He is both honest and ethical. I flirted with both Verdugo and Solar City but I felt like they were always trying to pressure and sell me on something they could not provide. Hans was straight forward and my system is great! The big companies have sales people as contacts and contractors doing all the labor. Hans oversees the whole process personally. I have had my system for 6 months now and couldn't be happier. I have no regrets with going solar and am thankful I went with Hans. I believe he truly cares about both his customers and the environment. 5 stars! read more

The entire process of planning, installation and education about our solar system was done with care and attention to detail. After getting and comparing more than 20 solar quotes from 10 different companies, I chose Hans to not only install the solar system and also replace the whole roof. Because our house is almost 40-year-old, we need to upgrade the main service panel to make it adequate for both the solar system and an L2 EVSE. His team is easy to work with and they submitted all the paperwork for our utility company rebate. Unlike most of the others, he listened and tailored the design based on our needs. If you want quality over cost and customization over the cookie-cutter approach, Hans can be what you look for. read more

I was a bit nervous hiring a smallish company with no previous reviews on Yelp, but after getting 6 bids for my residential solar project, and a lot of research, I decided to hire Hans and his crew at Altadena Energy and Solar. He impressed me from the beginning with his reliability and honesty and those characteristics continued throughout the entire process. There were no surprises along the way, and he made me feel like his only customer, even though I knew he was dashing from site to site. He was able to match the best price I had from any of the bidding companies, some very much larger than AE&S, and he did it with easy professionalism and quality. I ended up using a pre-paid lease option, so I look forward to working with AE&S for the next 10 years at least. I would hire them again and I recommend them highly. As an Altadena resident, it was especially satisfying to support a local business. read more

Solar power can be overwhelming with a lot of companies offering their opinions and services. But who do you trust? We reached out to three solar power providers, 2 large national companies and one local one. The first large company came to our home looked around a bit asked to see our utility bills (we only had 3 months as we were new owners). They said this is a big house so we recommend a big system, the purchase price will be app $53,000. The second large company came, saw that the other large company had already visited us and said without looking at our home, that they could offer the same system for 10% less. Then on recommendation from our neighbors came Hans Rosenberger from Altadena Energy & Solar. He spent over 1 hour looking around our home and gardens, he asked many questions to better understand our expectations and energy needs. He consulted to us explaining we could instantlly reduce our energy consumption with a few modifications to our pool, pond, lighting and energy consumption habits. The result was amazing. We invested $29,000 in our system, received 30% back from the IRS, haven't paid a cent in energy costs and just received a $68.00 refund for the first years excess power produced. Over 1 year later Hans still remains in contact, he monitors our system remotely and advises on alternative utility tariffs, especially given our investment in electric vehicles. In short AE&S offers outstanding service, its a no brainer. read more

We used Altadena Solar and are very happy with the work. Hans Rosenberger is very knowledgeable, committed to his product and easy to work with. He's not just a salesman. He designed the configuration and filed the rebate paperwork with the city of Pasadena. He was and is very responsive to our concerns and questions and provides information as needed. The installation went smoothly and the installers were efficient and competent. We are delighted with our system as our bimonthly bills are significantly reduced or show a surplus. A big plus for us is that Altadena Solar is a local business which I feel adds to accountability and keeps the money in the local economy. As soon as budget allows, I plan to get solar thermal from Altadena Solar. read more

Hans and his team installed our solar panels and we couldn't be happier with the results. I did a lot of research and got four different bids before choosing Altadena - who were not the lowest, but close enough considering the personal service I thought we would get. And Hans delivered in spades. Done in about six weeks, instead of the routine 4 months. Got extra panels on the roof, resolved issues, and advised on how we could further save energy with tips given on a walk through of our home. And after our solar was installed and running, returned a number of times to solve small issues and answered questions and emails promptly. I would recommend Hans and AES to anyone, and HAVE already! read more

Hans designed and oversaw my solar system; we went live in fall 2016. He did all the legwork re the permit, dealing with the LADWP and the rebate application. Was most polite and helpful at explaining the solar process to someone who had never had any solar experience before. My electric bill is now only $11.00/month. We have a difficult situation due to our house direction and the architectural nature of our home. We went to several of the known national solar companies and none had a reasonable or helpful solution. Hans did and he was patient with us as we understood how this would work. We are working now, we have not seen our first DWP bill since we went on line but I am sure we will have the savings he projected and more. This is one of the only times I have ever written a review but Hans and his team deserve high praise. read more
