It's been almost 2.5 years since I moved to LA from SF…read more I have to say that the quality of hair cut & perm you get here is amazing and consistent every single time which I feel very grateful for. I'm pretty picky about my hair, especially because I'm originally from Japan and I have a different hairstyle expectation that you usually cannot get at a U.S. hair salon. That's been said, if you have a typical Asian guy with hair traits like mine (thick & straight), I highly recommend you give it a try at this hidden gem in Monrovia. I cut my hair every 3-4 weeks, and I get a perm once a 3-4 months at Yumi's place. Yes, you read it right, I get a perm. I know getting men's perm is not common in the U.S, but the truth is it's such an undervalued thing here because permed hair is incredibly easy to manage, which is usually not the case for a typical thick straight Asian guy hair. Additionally, Yumi's place has very low covid risk as it's an individually owned salon, and the only person you meet in person is Yumi. She is very careful about maintaining covid sanitization and I feel safe each time I go there. If you have any questions regarding this review, hit me up and I'll happily answer you from my own experience. Happy 2022!

Carolina is very skilled at what she does, gives thoughtful and insightful advice on hair styling and care, and is overall just a joy to chat with. I've had hairdressers complain about my hair being too thick or long or fussy, but she had zero complaints, and I really appreciated that! Her studio is so clean and cute, too, and is just one of many studios/businesses located in the Sola Salon building. Her studio is conveniently located right by the entrance, so it's hard to miss. Booking is easy online. She gets super busy, so you might have to book a few weeks in advance. That's just how great she is at what she does. Definitely coming back in a few months for another cut! Highly recommend giving her a shot!

I had to id a new hair dresser (bc I moved) and was so nervous since my previous hair dresser was so wonderful. Carolina was super friendly and welcoming. This was my first time meeting her and she took her time to discuss my hair goals. I shared that my goal is to preserve length but also to maintain its health. I opted for a blunt cut with face framing layers, and she D E L I V E R E D!!! She trimmed the perfect amount and did not leave it short at all. It was the perfect refresh! And, her scalp scrub was 10 out of 10! I've gotten wash & blowouts at other salons, and my scalp will still feel dirty. But, not with Carolina! My scalp felt super clean and she hit some pressure points. The blowout was super pretty. I also talked to her about some minor greys I have and asked about her root touch ups since I was doing them previously. She was so honest and said she didn't recommend it. Instead, she recommended a hair product for cover up from the Style Edit (which she is not sponsored by, does not have a partnership with, & does not sell at her salon. I purchased through Amazon without her giving me a direct link) I've been using that and I'm obsessed! I got to save my coin and I appreciated her honesty. I also asked about glosses (which she happily does) and she recommended continuing my in-shower glossing at home to keep my hair healthy. Carolina's integrity shines. I will keep coming & report back.

The owner seemed nice however while doing my hair, she (the OWNER Susie) proceeded to tell me about a break up she was going through. How she keyed his truck and how she also stole money from her ex boyfriend by purchasing a plane ticket and a hotel. all because he no longer wanted to be in a relationship with her. I was so surprised how someone can do those things and not be embarrassed, or to even think it would make her seem cool. WEIRDO!!! read more

It upset me when I get a bad haircut and I paid like more than 20 dollars. if I get one bad hair cut, I don't usually return or give the place a second chance. I finally found something much better. A salon that caters for all ages. The salon is very straight forward, nothing fancy from the inside or outside, but Nelly Padilla the hairstylist specialize in all kinds of hair cut. Where can you really find someone who cuts hair for all ages? Not only cut but does everything else to highlight, color, hot oil and vice versa - this is the place that I get a proper cut and the way I want it than any other haircut place or salon. A hair cut that I can be proud of. Look for Nelly Padilla, she's quick, and very straight forward. You tell her what exactly you want with your hair and she will cut it as you wish. She's very nice and she will let you know what's the best style or she can suggest a good cut for you. This place is not a hit or miss, Nelly is very consistent with her hair cut. Sometimes you get a great haircut and then you can go back to the exact same person or stylist and the next haircut will be terrible. I advise that you call Nelly Padilla at 626-359-5485 ahead of time, set an appointment because she is very busy.
