Susan Aw puts the Aw in Awesome. I really appreciate how Susan takes your face shape into consideration as well as your current hair health to make sure that what you want is actually doable. She knows what she's doing and she really takes the time to get to know you and your hair before she does any work on it. Susan truly is an artist and your hair is her canvas. In summer I went to her for my balayage highlights, which came out perfectly and the color was exactly what I wanted. I didn't want to go TOO blonde, and Susan had mentioned because I am naturally more tan, I should do a little bit of a cool tone at the bottom so it eventually fades warm. Overall, I'm super happy that I found Susan through Instagram. Today I went back because I wanted to update my hair for fall and go a little darker. She talked me out of dying it completely one color, to keep my ombre, and do a rose gold. I'm so glad I listened to her because it came out BEAUTIFULLY. I am in love all over again!!! I love Susan! I came all the way from San Jose, ca for her. I came across her work while browsing #balayage on Instagram. I'm also a stylist myself and had my fair share of bad experience. My hair is very fine and pretty damage from the numerous color jobs I had done, and some from myself. When booking with Susan I emailed and asked 3 things, does she freehand paint, do I go under the drier and will my hair be orange. She rest assured that it won't. The day of the appointment I forgot my drivers license at home and couldn't pick up my rental. I didn't want to cancel my appointment and be a no show so I frantically got uber to take me from LAX to arcadia. Which was about 45 miles away. The whole trip cost me about 140$ for the transportation. But I didn't care cause it's not her fault I didn't bring my license and I hate when people cancel last min. I'm so glad I did because I'm beyond happy with my experience. Susan carefully did my hair and we chatted away about work and shared our tips and tricks. Usually I never share my formula with any stylist but she felt more like a friend then just my stylist. My appointment took about 5 hours. What I love the most about her is that when my hair didn't lift enough she offered to do it again right there. Such a perfectionist to not let me leave the salon like a mess. I came out a silvery blond and can't believe my hair didn't even snap or get gummy like the last time I got it done. I haven't colored my hair in a few years and finally decided to get some color back into my life. I was referred to Susan, and I have to say, she is AMAZING! We talked about my options, I wanted to get some sort of ombre color done. I was a bit nervous, going in to the service..imagining my hair to be totally damaged by the end of the service (I've been traumatized before, hence why it's been forever since I've colored it). But not only did my hair color come out awesome, my hair also felt great as well! My boyfriend was even surprised and commented on how good it felt when I saw him, lol! As for the color, we decided to go pretty light. I pretty much had all very dark brown hair...I wanted something different and was ready for it. I'm an Asian girl with Asian hair. I came to Susan after a color/extension disaster from somewhere else and I'm so glad I did. She was able to fix it and gave me the best color match for my hair and hair extension I've ever had ( I am a hair extension addict been wearing over 10years and tried EVERY method so I know what good extension feels and looks like). Started going to Susan for my hair cut 1 year ago. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I never know what to do with my hair when it is long and as a guy, I am too lazy to care most days, so I used to just get the Asian spikes from my local barber. Was driving through Arcadia and in need of a hair cut. Saw that Susan from Embellish Hair Salon had excellent reviews on Yelp so decided to give it a try. The salon was on a popular street with plenty of easy parking in the back. Susan was really attentive as I explained what type of hair style I was going for and she nailed it! I'm very specific when it comes to my hair and tried a lot of different salons searching for the right stylist in Pasadena. I can't say I'm too surprised at the quality because I can always tell when someone loves and enjoys what they do. She seemed to really have a good sense about hair and even spent extra care styling my hair with wax and spray. She is really easy going and really takes care of you. I saw some photos of her work as a hair stylist that she does for girls and I'm will definitely be recommending her to my female friends as I know how picky they can be about their hair and blowouts. I've been seeing Susan for my hair for several years now and she's great. I live on the west side so it's a rather far drive to Arcadia (although much better than before when she used to be in Orange County), but she's well worth the drive and wait. It's a good thing when your hair stylist is busy (evident that she knows what she's doing and is in high demand), but even better that she's accommodates and fits me in her schedule when possible. Being used to the "zero on the side, high fade, and 10 clip on the top" look for years, Susan has taught me that it's OK to move on from that typical style that plagues most Asian guys at some point in their lives. I have no idea what's in or what the trend is, but luckily she does. I basically just sit down and tell her to work her magic. I've had issues with past hair stylists (the plight of having a big, awkwardly shaped head), but Susan knows what to do. And it's not like it's static every time. Over the years, I've noticed she's done different things, i.e., the fohawk when that was in, and more recently, has been letting the top grow longer. Susan is amazing. Even with my completely over processed orange hair she managed to turn it soft and just the right ash blonde that I've always wanted. I've spent a long time trying out different stylists and even diy YouTube videos. But it's never gotten the ideal result. Susan went above and beyond. Her and her assistant kept checking my hair to make sure it didn't burn off and kept wiping off and redoing the developer just to get all the orange out. It was an uphill battle but they performed a minor miracle. Very nice down to earth lady. I have been with susan for about 4 years now she does amazing work ( look at my picture). Susan is great at what she does she is a two for one, meaning she does great color techniques and can cut new styles (old styles) or whatever the trend is. She is the real deal & she loves what she does. She has also cut my 2 almost 3 year olds curly hair too multiple times and her hair has been growing evenly and is so beautiful now and it's another thing she is skilled at she also advised me on how to do curly hair since obviously I do not have curls. I have also had her do my makeup and hair for events and family pictures and currently have an appointment for another makeup session & hair in late summer. Honestly, I sit in the chair tell susan I'm not happy with how my hair is growing out and the color of my natural hair is ugly. I asked if she had any available time to squeeze me in for a consultation and she did gave me a time but I wouldn't be able to make it to that time. So I asked again if she has any time after 4 that day or any day next week, she said "can i call you back in an hr?" Hang up on me and didn't even ask for my number. And didn't call me back. Stop the lies. Stylists have been lying to me for YEARS, about how my hair will be "wash and wear," easy to maintain after they trim my long layers. They tell me about how my hair will look just as good the day after, and the week after, I leave their salon chair. MENTIROSAS. FINALLY, I have someone that makes it happen. I asked Susan to trim my hair and clean up my layers, so that it's easy to maintain and will look the same as it grows out, WITHOUT using any products, or applying any heat to my hair. Susan made it happen. She trimmed the length and layers, and shaped it so that my hair does not require frequent trimming, or blowdrying, flat irons, curling irons, or any products to maintain my no-nonsense style/shape.
