Very often when going out to a new place, I will leave myself notes on Yelp, so I can better remember my experience when the time comes to write about it. This is especially useful when I let long periods go in between the eating and the reviewing. Of course, here I am now, more than three years later since coming out to Sushiya, and all I have to go by are a few pictures and a lone note proclaiming, "not that great." Not gonna lie, I have to stick by that. Valentine's Day of 2020, leaving the kids at home, we snuck away for a chance to be alone with good food at a new spot nearby. There was a fair sized crowd that night and COVID hadn't yet closed everything down. Settling in, we grabbed a small table near the front and ordered. We started with the Edamame, basic and not bad, though it would always be better with some garlic to kick things up a bit. Still, a nice beginning to the evening. Next up was the Popcorn Lobster Roll. Great on paper, gorgeously plated and fun to look at, but a bit underwhelming in flavor. It reminded me of two other dishes I've had, also with lobster chunks, both also fried. Starting to think that lobster doesn't ever work well in sushi. Then there was the Golden Tiger, the only thing I remember about this roll was that it put in mind that the only fried roll that should have cream cheese in it was a Jalapeño popper. Our last order was their Crunch Onion, similar to (but not even coming close) to the Hotty Hotty over at Blue Ocean. While ambitious in concept, it doesn't have that same kind of salty crunch, or overall good mix of flavors that we were hoping was there. Also on the table we're our regular selections of a California and Philadelphia Rolls. The latter was standard, but the former had a crab stick instead of a surimi salad which is ALWAYS a warning sign anytime we go out for sushi. In the end, after coming here, I had little interest in writing about it right away. There was no drive to come back out to try it again or see if we could find better fare on their menu. There are definitely better sushi places to go and enjoy better food. I very much doubt I will ever come back here again, which is sad; but with so many other choices nearby, it's tough to justify giving this place a second look. read more

The food was so amazing. We highly recommend the vampire roll to anyone. It melted in our mouths. So yummy. The combination of all that is our/in of this roll is delicious!!! I highly recommend. The Tonkatsu pork was so yummy too. The pork was soft and not chewy. the portions are perfect for lunch. I would recommend to add more ginger sauce on the salad. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to satisfy your cravings- come on in. Alex is a great host and very knowledgeable of all the combinations of food they have. The food here is amazing I always get the King Salmon roll or Lemon Roll and never fails. Love the customer service they provide very nice people. I drive from Wildomar just to have their sushi. I 100% would recommend here and try it out. read more

Decided to stop by yesterday morning to check out the place and try one of their rolls. I've been searching for a place close to home w quality sushi and I think I found it *does happy dance* Here's the thing, my husband and I LOVE sushi, but we can't afford it lol so, If we save up for it and it's meh.... That's not cool. I walk in and the owner is this young, super kind and friendly upbeat guy. As soon as I tell him it's my first time there, he breaks down the menu for me and offers me a seat while I make my decision on my takeout request. I went with the moa roll and a 3 pcs salmon sashimi. I take pictures of the menu and out comes my food. To my surprise, he gave me a 15% discount for being a first time customer. It came out to $24 w tip. Can I just say, no one does that anymore. It was nice to experience hospitality and kind service. I hadn't even tasted the food yet, but I let him know I'd come back. The sashimi was amazing. The first bite I took was ALL it took for me to get me hooked. The roll was refreshing with a good amount of fish on it. I did take off the thin pieces of lime on top, but that was just my preference. Overall, very nice experience. The prices are what they are, it's not cheap, but it's not ridiculous either. Still solid..but showing it's age. Came by for some discounted sushi (50% off). It had been several years since our last visit and it was a little disappointing that many of the special rolls were no longer half off. Still, there were enough discounted rolls to justify coming here and filling your belly on a budget. Yakisoba and Teriyaki are pretty good entree options here too. - Decor needs a little TLC. It's exactly the same as it was 10 years ago, dust and all. - My go to roll is the Spanish Roll (snow crab, salmon, cilantro, ponzu). read more

We went here for lunch and got awful food poisoning. We ordered the calamari which was tough as rubber, the jalapeño bombs, two miso soups and the mix tempura and spicy garlic edamame. The only thing truly tasty was the jalapeño bombs. We couldn't even eat the spicy garlic edamame it was so spicy it killed your taste buds. Upon first taste the calamari was hard to eat but we thought they had just overcooked it. Well, it was not good or fresh as we both got very sick with food poisoning all night after eating here. This place is such a hideaway! Tony the owner and man in the pic is so friendly and kind and greets every person that comes through his door! My parents lived near here for 10 years and didn't even know about this place or try it and wen to a neighboring busy location across the street that I have never had good experience there...I.e cold food, forgetting to add veggies to my soup and giving me them on the side, slow service.....here with Tony and the gang you will NEVER have that kind of service! Tony made us a special on the house salad with cucumbers and crab and a special refreshing sauce which started off our date night great! We then had the garlic edamame and they have an awesome special that if you purchase a beer you get a sake for $1 more...so like for $7 you get drinks for 2....soooo amazing!!! We tried 3 different rolls the albacore roll, Tony special and cruchchi roll and soooooo....flipping...GOOD!!! We have had several other rolls there like the shrimp tempura and caterpillar and a few others and honestly each one gets better than the next They are quick to clear empty plates, bring you fresh water with lemon and honestly best service in town. I can't remember the last time I had service like this!! And everyone who works there genuinely seems happy! We haven't had dessert there yet due to being to full hahaha but next time maybe we will start with the dessert so I'll add to my review haha! I visited this restaurant by myself and received super sweet service from the server. He was a young man who was friendly and polite, and he was diligent in cleaning between responding to his tables. I got a house salad, in which the chef came out and talked to me about the dressing, which is house made, with ginger, celery and some other things he explained. It's so delicious I could buy a whole bottle! I got the Hollywood roll (I think that is what it is called) and it was delicious. I will definitely be back to try some more rolls! Thank you. Okay. Our first time here and our last. The good is the service. The bad is the food. Tempura was undercooked to the point of being inedible. We ordered 6 rolls. Not the so called "discounted rolls" and all were underwhelming. They load every roll up with imitation crab and so there was very little of anything else. Just finished up at this restaurant and the service was amazing! The waiters and waitresses were very attentive to our needs and had such speedy service. Constantly checking on us and making sure we didn't need anything. Definitely recommend eating at this sushiya. They even opened the door for us on our way out. 10/10 recommend!
