I came here with 2 friends and didn't realize that it was not only a Mexican restaurant but also a meat shop. We ordered 2 chicken and 1 steak burritos but very disappointed because there was no seasoning. Also, when ordering the burrito itself l, you have to pay for the additional meat, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. It only comes beans and rice otherwise. Staff always exceptionally friendly. Fast forward to this Saturday..taco was inedible. I had to forgo the tortilla and just eat the meat because the tortilla was nearly raw. My husband got a burrito which was good. 1 salsa for both items, so we asked for more salsa and got exactly one more haha. I've always have had a good experience here up until today. I wanted a specific piece of meat, it looked just the right size. Being that their meat is not cheap. You get what you pay for, their meat is good. I asked for a specific piece and he proceeded to ignore me and chose the piece that he felt inclined to give me. The piece was a much smaller size. I told him that I wanted the other piece because it was a better size(not too small, not too big). He went on to say that they are all the same size and stuffed the bag with both pieces! Don't know if he's trying to meet a quota! Or just upset that I interrupted his cleaning routine. Granted, it was 7:00PM when I was shopping. I chose another type of meat as well, and made sure to tell him I only wanted one piece of that one. As a customer this experience did not make me feel valued. It made me feel very ignored. He then facetiously started wishing me a good day. I proceed to checkout and let the lady know what had just happened & she graciously mentioned that she could tell him to take it out. I was like that's ok. Just wanted to get out of there. I was very upset and mentioned to her that'll just leave a review. Don't know if she was one of the owner's wives ;), because she proceeded to let me know that management doesn't see the reviews anyways. I responded that this is a review for us customers to see, but as good business management I would think a business would like to see their reviews here and there. Anyhow, $90+ later, for three pieces of meat(one in which I didn't ask for) and a salsa, you bet my bottom dollar that I am going to write a review. *Changed the review to 2 stars. After I got home, & as I opened my packages(2 different kinds of marinated meat) in which I only wanted ONE steak of each. I came to find out he gave me TWO of each. marinated flavor--when I only wanted one of ea. Rude man gave me TWO of each kind!!! It all worked out on our side of things, but if this situation was to happen again, I will definitely will let that man know that I asked for one piece AND to take the others out. Always top quality meats! My favorites are the Burgandy or Habanero Mango marinated carne. I recently discovered that they will cook the meat up for you too if you ask which was super helpful since I don't currently have a grill at home. Everyone there has always been friendly and helpful. Their burritos and bowls are also excellent, they have a few tables inside to sit and eat there or you can take it to-go. It's not the cheapest option for Mexican food near by, but the quality of the meat is worth it. I love that you have choices of black or refried beans and between poblano and Spanish rice. I love to buy the carne asada bowls here. The Portion is just right for one, very healthy and tasty. I like it with poblano rice. The don't out too much rice as the bowl has lettuce on the bottom so it's also diet friendly. I also come here to buy salsa and chips. Their medium salsa are really hot. The pineapple salsa is rated medium but it's a spicy 7/10 at least. I bought the salsa verde hot and Mocajete hot this time. The salsa verde is a spicy 8/10, but delicious with tamales or chips. I have tried the mocajete yet but will update. You can't go wrong with the salsa and chips here. Other things they sell: craft beers, firewood, charcoal, refrigerated rice, beans, guacamole and sauces, some limited produce like ingredients to make your own salsa, ice cream, steak and fish. read more

I've been to Kennedy's three times for the tacos. The first time I ordered the "Grilled USDA Choice Flap Carne Asada" taco, which is $3 more than the pollo, carnitas, or barbacoa taco choices. I expected a decent quality, flavor, and quantity of meat, but instead got a few tiny morsels of tough, gristly meat, with no flavor and unchewable. The second time I ordered a carnitas taco, which was delicious and a decent quantity. Yesterday I gave the "USDA Choice Flap" etc. taco another try, wondering if the first try was an aberration, but no. Don't be like me and put your faith in the printed description and upsell. It's tender, juicy, and has a ton of flavor. Kennedy's is a small grocery market, with fresh meat, some refrigerated items like salsa, guacamole, etc., chips, and wine. But they've also got a grill, inside the grocery, where they make tacos, burritos, and other food. You order at the front counter/cashier and pick up your food at the kitchen grill area. The carne asada taco was excellent. It's bigger than a street taco and it's packed with meat, pico de gallo, and guac. It's delicious. It's also $7, which is steep. The carne asada burrito is very large. And it's got that same excellent carne asada. It's very, very good and is also a pricey $16. By the way, the creamy chipotle sauce in the refrigerated grocery area is insanely good. I could bathe in that stuff. This is a very cool market with excellent carne asada. If we are lucky we pick up the classic Texas Twinkies and make them all dice them up and use it for pretty much anything like burgers, baked potatoes or whatever you can think of. So when I saw how close it was ...we had to visit. dance comp all weekend in Escondido. day one was chick fil a day two was takeout from Northgate day three Kennedy's... we got a carnitas burrito and carne asada burrito ...both with the rice on the side. I got red salsa and girl got green...she actually liked the salsa !!! I love this shop and have been going here for years for their variety of meats and other tasty items. We have never stayed and ate there but the menu always sounds intriguing. We love the variety of salsas and dips they have as well, the pineapple salsa is a favorite at our house along with the jalapeño cheese dip. They have a bunch of different meats marinated in all different flavors, the burgundy rub is our go to but for fathers day we decided to go with some nice filet mignons. We were at Elote next door for lunch and saw Kennedy's meat market, they've done some Yelp events that we weren't able to attend, it's kinda far and deep in Escondido... but since we're here... We saw the guy grilling some samples and we tried it and immediately fell in love with the meats. We went in and bought $80 worth of meat to cook at home. We got many different marinated steaks and chicken. And actually grilled at home and made steak and chicken tacos. So good! Even taste better with white rice since it's heavy marinated and salted. So there is no place more rich in Latinx history, influence, and culture than right here, where it all began. This month is Hispanic Heritage Month, so today we pay tribute to Kennedy's Meat Company.
